I thought, it would probably be a good idea to put a password on my XDA Mini S, because I don't want people accessing all my data and my phone. So, I set my simple 4 digit password, set it to automatic after 15 minutes, and turned off my device. I turned it back on, and the device was unlocked. I thought i was going crazy, so I tried a few more times, disable and re-enabled the password, but this is just rubbish. Does anyone else's Wizard unlock itself if the time till the password screen should be activated hasn't passed? So it works if I set it to display the password screen after 0 minutes, but even then i'm worried it might do something, such as, press the "Yes" button when the device asks me if I wish to format my memory card which it is doing increasingly.
Anyone experienced this?
Thanks!
yupz, i can imagine what do u feel with this problem. it also happened 2 me in the first time i changed my ROM to AKU2. and i also feel a little bit confuse bout it. BUT...
then i think it's more useful, because when u put ur device on standby (push the power button) and in a while suddenly u need 2 use ur device again u don't need 2 fill in the password. it will automatically lock ur device only when u don't use ur device in 15 minutes.
so it works when u don't use ur device in 15 miutes and when u set it to 0 minutes, it will put ur device on standby directly after u don't touch ur device in seconds and it makes uncomfortable.
that's all bout my experience 4 the device lock. i hope it can help ur confusion. Gut Luck!!!

So I have been looking around the internet and on this site, and I found a few programs that lock the phone including the two programs created by vijay555 and armstrom but they just don't do what I am looking for. This is what I am looking for:
1) When I press the power button I want my phone go into sleep mode and lock
2a) When I press the power button again I want it to turn the screen back on and advance me to the screen where i just press unlock on the touch screen( not unlock on the soft keys and then to unlock on the touch screen. I would like to skip the soft key press.)
2b) Instead of the need to press the touch screen to unlock it would be great if when I hit the power key to turn back on that it allowed me to press the middle nav button(such as the lock on the palm 700 wm)
Hope someone can help! Thanks alot! I have a Cingular 8525!
well now once you hit the power button to sleep it will only leave the power button active, so you dont have to lock it before you put it to sleep.. also the latest version of battery status has an option that will lock the phone upon wake up.. now i know you are looking for something to lock it prior to sleep and unlock during wake up, but personally i think unlocking during wake up could cause issues if the phone is on your pocket.. you can also still answer calls while the phone is locked
VJDeviceLock locks on power off if required. Advancing to second stage could be done. Making device unlock on pressing enter is possible but semi-complex. I don't know if Matt is still developing, but I could update mine if required.... I'm very busy and pre-occupied, but if enough call for it I'll give it a go.

that would be amazing if you could look into it. I would really appreciate it!
hi, vijay555. does your device lock affect activesync synchronization? the one i tried always give out an error message, so i had to remove the program.
Don't know if it does. If it does anything at all, it should do the same as the normal device lock today screen plugin. Let me know if it does something else.

i have yet to find a device lock that kills activestink on the phone

this one (included in the addon folder), when installed and set up, disrupts synchronization on my phone (xda2s on helmi's 3.2 rom). but i can still explore the phone via activesync.
i will try vijay555's program. thanks.

ok, you are referring to the AS on the pc getting disabled... or let me state that better, when you use that app to lock your phone it halts synch between pc and phone.. thats odd.. i will pull apart that cab and see whats up with it, however im not well versed on versions earlier than WM5.. but in theory it should work the same way.. i will report back
**EDIT**
wait, im an idiot, i dont need to pull it apart to answer your question, dont know why i didnt think of this earlier, when you put your device to sleep it should kill the connection over usb (why your able to browse via AS is still beyond me). i have experienced that on all the WM5 devices i have owned farrady, wizard, hermes...
**2nd EDIT**
That cab is doing exactly that, when you activate the device lock it puts the phone into sleep mode via reg key HKLM/Software/Devicelock and the dword "SuspendAfterCheck". now with that being said there may be a reg key to also disable power save modem on the active sync connection, but im not sure if it exists for earlier versions of WM
thanks, shogunmark. btw, my unit is already on WM5... and i got lost on the 2nd EDIT, lol!

oh, i thought your particular device was wm2003 device, my bad.. that 2nd edit showed a registry setting that suspends the phone when using that app, if you have regedit you can try to play with that setting and see what happens, the HKLM is HK local machine key in the registry.. its currently at a value of 0. from this app, you could try changing it to a 1. but then again that program may overwrite that value each time its ran, but i dont think so, its worth a shot
okay so now that i have played with my phone for a couple of days i know exactly what i want now. I would really like a program that would lock my phone and then shut it off with just the simple press of the power key on the side. I have used both the programs for vijay and the other device lock and they both will lock after device awakens, but I would really like it to lock before then. If that could be possible, i could then use the device lock program to run a program when the phone wakes, i will run vijays button press to press the left soft key and then all i will have to do is press the screen to unlock, thus exactly what i need is taken care of. Hopefully everything is understadable. I am super tired right now, but i have been testing all day and wanted to update the post.
@lance18: i'm not sure if i read correctly, but maybe you could opt to have your unit power off after a certain amount of time, without using the power button
start>settings>settings>power>advanced
@shogunmark: thanks for the idea. i just realized i could have one program run after locking my unit, so i chose activesync. i now have
no more problems synchronizing
My device has been working perfectly till suddenly & without any early notice the device has been locked with some kind of locking.
After reset the device goes into the locked status showed in the pictures, no option to do hard reset,
Tried all options, seems like one of the keys is defective and that’s why can’t perform hard reset.
The device is locked and the 90 minutes limit don’t go down, you can’t do anything.
However if there is a incoming call, you see it on the screen and you can answer the call.
Does anyone familiar with this lock screen ? how do i pass it & relase the device? please advise & help me ....
This is the password protection built into all versions of windows CE. (accesed form control panel/personal/security (or something like that, may vary with OS versions). It has options to lock the device after switching it off (going to sleep mode is considered switching off too), or after the device is not used for a given period of time. The whole point of this protection is to prevent unauthorized access to the device, so i think that without the password you're screwed
Did someone play with your phone before that happened? Maybe it was a "joke" by one of your friends? If you never set the password, anyone can enter the password settings applet and enable it. That's why it's always a good idea to set the password, even if you don't plan to use it -it is also required to enter security settings...
So, if you really want to HR, first of all make sure that one of the buttons is really defective - I just checked and you can't turn off the device by holding the power button when it's loched - this might be your problem. So try holding the comm manager and voice command buttons and press reset button on the side (keep the side buttons pressed until you get the "reset to factory defaults" question)
.
If that doesn't work, try checking if the device connects to activesync when it's locked. It shouldn't happen, since it would be a possible security hole, but knowing microsoft...
If it does you might try to flash its ROM (of course you would lose all your data).
And if it does not and one of the buttons really is defective you might have to disassemble the device in order to do a HR (by shorting the switches' contacts with some metal object), but i wouldn't do this if you don't have some experience with electronics, since you might damage the phone if it's not handled properly with case removed. It might be easier to go to a GSM repair shop and have the switch replaced.

Forget all that password bs. Lock your device with this rogram. Unlock by pressing both soft keys at the same time.

Well my phone had the same misterious behaviour. In my case i just reseted the phone, removed the accu, waited a few seconds, put back the accu and restarted the device.
dunno wat accu is, i ended up holdign both volume keys n hittting the power button n it reset all settingss
stealing your thread a bit.. is it possible to use the lock code only when starting phone? i only found option for how many hours idle before lock code
Im sure everybody has run into this problem on other android devices but i haven't seen this problem with many x10 owners. It must've unlocked itself and flapped around in my pocket until it incorrectly drew a pattern 5 or more times and somehow pressed the "Forgot Pattern?" button.
So your stuck with a screen that asks for your Gmail account login and ive tried every single combination of correct username and pass to get in but it is impossible ( Account logs in fine on PC ).
Ive read about ways to solve this and have come upon 3 different options.
1. Manual Factory Reset ( It's an option but i don't want to spend hours getting my phone back to how it was )
2. While in a call, ending the call and using a short window of opportunity (.5 seconds) to tinker around with your settings to try and make it possible to access your phone.
3. Download the Android SDK and enter something into the command prompt.
I would like to try option 3 however i heard that your phone must be rooted, i don't know how to go about rooting or if it is even possible for the x10.
Any support appreciated, thanks.
i guess don't use pattern lock is my suggestion. is there something else that can be used instead of pattern lock?

Might sound like a silly suggestion... but have you tried powering off. taking the battery and sim card out.. give it 30 seconds or so then put it all back together again.. might let you try your google account details then..
Did same, had to seus to get back in Lucky was 1st day owning so not bothered.
You mention the call thing, can you not disable the pattern lock whilst in call ?. I didnt know the phone could take a call when locked out so didnt try.
I'm not sure if this is a simple setting or if my question is completely idiotic. Though... My main reason for asking this question is because I'm not sure how phone tracking works (using Cerebus) though if the phone is turned off can the phone still be tracked? If so, what's stopping a user from just powering down my N4 and just formatting it through Fastboot? Thanks in advance for anyone who has a solution to my problem or a explanation as to why my idea is completely illogical.
Lol my best mate has been saying this for months. He wants an app that basically asks for a pin to shut the phone down. Sealed phones have no battery pull so he wants to make sure only he can shut the phone down by a pin / pattern method. Just like an unlock but reversed for locking. This meaning you would in theory be very likely to track your phone in time before it runs out of juice etc or whatever.
So I don't think your question is silly and I'm very interested in any development known.

Well even if someone actually writes an app that asks for a PIN when the you tap on Shut Down, there's still a hardware implementation that will force your phone to reboot or turn off if you press the power button long enough (10-15 seconds I think).
It acts as an alternative to battery pulls.

Yes I kind of tried to explain to my mate that there are always ways to turn the phone off and that maybe his idea is flawed. Thanks.
