battery life playing movies? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hey I'm going to buy an 8125 probably towards the end of the month, I was just wondering how the battery life is when playing a movie with tcpmp? I read on some site that the treo 650 gets over 4 hrs or so and I was just wondering how the wizard does.

I'd expect betwwen 4-6 hours depending on the backlight setting - so quite impressive

I get over 6 hours with tcpmp

High power batteries for 9100 (like 2400mAh) need specific back battery panel (must be provided with the battery) and I don't know if the mobile can support the battery charge. But you can find standard power battery (1250mAh) for 20€on ebay germany. Can be delivered in all europ countries.
For the battery life with the music player GSPlayer (auto switch off the screen by the player) , it is more than 15h with the standard battery.

My battery too is eaten up quickly when I activate the phone-abilty. Are there better batteries for sale anywhere?
I am for O2 to release a 'extended' battery.
At the moment I carry round two standard batteries swapping one by mid afternoon, which is a pain.
I would love one high-powered unit
Ashby
Battery time
I have found in a very non-sciencetific test, that the battery can actually last quite long:
7 hours 30 minutes (night) of Bluetooth OFF and no GPRS connection drained the battery from 100% to 96 %
7 hours 30 minutes of Bluetooth OFF and GPRS enabled, logged on to MS Messenger drained the battery from about 100% to 80 %. I was still logged on in the morning when turning the XDA on, pretty impressive.
Charging in the car cradle (Brodit active cradle) to and from work keeps the battery working all day.
Regards
Michael
I think the main problem is that we want our XDA's to do everything all at once i.e. GPRS online all day, Bluetooth active all day AND we want to actually use it at the same time i.e. make occasional phone calls (up to 1hr a day) AND use the PDA functions (1hr a day) AND perhaps to use it as an MP3 Walkman on the way to work as well (2hrs a day).
Yes it would be nice if it could do this but not everyone wants it to do so much and by providing as standard a battery suitable to last 18 hours (i.e. use all day - charge overnight) would mean the phone is uncompetetive in the market too expensive and too large (heavy). Would everyone pay another £60 ontop of what they paid (I know I would have thought twice)
I also do the battery dance mid afternoon so I for one would love to have a higher power battery (even if it means a bit more weight and size) but others do not. I suppose the real question is when will we at least get the option for a high power battery for us power users?
I think the only batteries available at the moment are the standard 1200mAh does anyone know how much difference would another 600mAh or even 1200mAh make to battery life?

Battery question

for those who have it how long does the battery last with a normal use?(calls, sms and internet)Thank you in advance
No exact figure but I can easily go a day without charging and that's using BT carkit for over 1 hour. About 10 calls - 30 mins total and about 10 SMS.
Sometimes have wifi on also in the evenening to use Agile Messenger.
Gav.
Well the other day I web browsed for 10 minutes over UMTS, watched a TV show for 30 minutes, video called for 30 minutes, played games for 30 minutes and at the end of the day I still had 50% battery left.
Thats great!thank you!

Whoa, I can't agree that battery life is good because it depends which model you have and what software you use with it. I have a week old Cingular 8525 with Goodlink in a UMTS area and I get only 14 hours of battery life with low-moderate use of email alone. I turn it on at 6:45am each morning and power is down to 10-20% by 7-8pm and I've barely used the phone. Not great battery life compared to my 8125, which never died, even with heavy voice and Goodlink email usage.
I haven't traveled with my new 8525 yet but when I use it with heavy calling, I'm sure it wont get more than 12 hours, tops. I just bought a second battery because of this. I know battery life with Goodlink on the 8525 is a known issue, and is one of the reasons Cingular delayed its release, but it's REALLY BAD. I have a feeling Cingular is going to be getting more than a few 8525 returns because of poor battery life. If you use Goodlink on the 8525 you 100% need a second battery using the stock ROM.

i can concur that my 8525 has horrible battery life, i take mine off the charger around 9am, i dont really make calls, but do use pushmail, and some internet usage, mostly text and email, however mine is usually in need of a charge by 9pm when my low battery alert is coming on.. this is mostly in a UMTS area. My 8125 had far better battery life than this... oh the price we pay for speed
Exactly! That's why I bought an extra battery!
Love the 8525 speed, hate the battery life. I thought Goodlink was the problem, but it sounds like it just adds fuel to the bad battery problem.
If/when an updated rom from cingular comes out, I hope battery life will be the primary fix...
I think its the UMTS thats killing it.. i work in a UMTS area and thats where i see my biggest drain, when i am at home in a Edge area my drain is not nearly as huge, but still a bit more excessive than my 8125

Just my 2 cents: I too believe that searching for/acquiring/holding a UMTS signal might be the cause for such rapid decline in battery power. However, to be fair I must state that 1) I do not live in a UMTS area, but have read similar posts elsewhere 2) I'm a total WM5 newbie(came from a Treo 650 and Moto Razr 3)Am looking forward to travelling to a UMTS area(Texas for me, I live in Oklahoma) to find out if it's all true. Speed/battery drain, etc.
However: I must add, that just this morning. My battery went down to 30% after 3 days usage. No push email/Good, etc. Heavy text messaging, some browsing, and even one phone call that lasted 59 minutes, over speaker phone. Not to mention the other calls, an occasional game of solitaire or bubble breaker. This possible issue is probably why Cingular is looking to release a larger battery in the future, but for me(right now) mine is ok for where I live and what I use it for.
i use my hermes in tokyo umts area and have connection always on for my push mail. i receive around 60 emails, a bit of occasional web browsing and less than 20 minutes making/receiving calls a day. i only turn on wifi and bluetooth when i use them but that's not everyday. i tend to agree that the stock battery life is not good enough as it will go down to like 30% in about 12 hours in my case.
i know that umts and connection always on are draining the battery but that's how i want to use it. instead of carrying a spare battery, i decided to purchase Mugen's 3000mAh battery and have started using it from this morning. it's really good as it still shows 80% left even after using it for over 10 hours already since i tooked it off the charger this morning.

Hi Harry- could you post a link to a site to purchase the Mugen 3000mAh battery.
I was searching around and found a 1500mAh battery on Seidioonline (link below). I think I read somewhere (on this site) that advertised power and actual power are 2 very different things, but am encouraged that you are getting 10 hours and are still at 80%!

i'm still at 60% after running it for 25 hours without charging. i'll have to fully discharge it 3 times at least before achieving the stated capacity so i'll have to leave it uncharged for another day. what i'm seeing is definitely more than what i expected.
the link to the site from where i purchased it is pasted in my post above.

That 1500 mah battery at Seidio Online seems wonderful, but I couldn't find any references or review that comment on the following:
- If it is compatible with the Hermes (8525/TyTn/etc.)
- If it truly provide 11% more talk/standby time
- If charging it with original Hermes charger will damage the phone in anyway or just simply taking longer to charge.
If any of the above is OK, I'd buy it in a heartbeat and make the original 1360 MAH battery my 2nd battery.

it is compatible with hermes so you don't have to worry about its compatibility. i don't believe it will damage it with the original hermes charger as i have used it for sometime.
with that said, don't expect any significant difference as it has only 150mah advantage and i couldn't even recognize the difference. i don't think it is worth spending the money unless you just want to get a spare battery but just the stock battery is way cheaper for a spare. i recommend all to go for the 3000mah one from mugen if you need longer battery life.
so this weekend i am off work and live in a non 3G area.. and all i can say is what a difference there is in battery consumption.. my phone has been off the charger for almost 6 hours and have had moderate usage and i only just recently hit 90%.. now if i was working today i would have already been at the 50-60% range... For my device i can say that 3G kills my battery life... actually i think my battery life in an "edge only" area is very comparable if not better than my 8125.. but in a 3g area i would get better battery life if i just shorted out the contacts on my battery (newbs that was joke, *DO NOT* short out the contacts on your battery)
I have the Seidio battery. It fits but not as well as the original. The cover bows up slightly when it's installed. Performance is slightly better than the original.
Average business use, couple of hours of calls , some web browsing, push email on, about a day and a half with standard battery.

Not yet.. Just ordered a standard 1350 mah battery tonight but could not find any extended battery or back covers. GPS is a battery killer, therefore a car charger and 2nd battery is a MUST.. Stay Tuned..
Here are a upcoming extended battery for Kaiser...

But no release date
I'm getting a TyTn II next week and was wondering how long the battery lasted when using the GPS? I use Memory Map for mountain biking and walking and currently use an external GPS on my old XDA IIi. The GPS lasts about 16hrs and the XDA about good 5hrs.

The max you'll get is about 4-5 hours.
Thanks vblues. That will be good then with a backup battery.
4-5 hours?!? I have heard people getting at least 12-24 hours with medium usage. Maybe if you have 3G on and connected all the time (say push email), you browse the web a lot, and you are on the phone constantly, you might get 4-5 hours. I don't know what the GPS life is, but it should be better than the battery life with 3G, as 3G is an active radio, so requires a lot more power.
12-24 hours!!! Wow that would be good. I don't plan on walking or biking for that long. I suppose I will just have to test it when it finally arrives.

he ment only in gps usage!
Yes. What I meant was only GPS usage. About 45-60min of GPS usage, the battery dropped from 100% to about 75%. This was when I was on a 3G network. If I stayed on a GSM network, the same amount of GPS usage drops the battery to about 80%.
3G does sap quite a bit of battery life so stay on a GSM network if you seldom use 3G/HSDPA.
HI!!!!!!!!!

Purchased a 2700mAh battery £15 already looks to be promising as have done far more than i had previously and lost less juice "first day of use"
Yep your percentage dropped less, but you'll see that your device will most likely turn off by itself around 50%

I turned off between full charge and dead as flashing etc.
The battery lasted nearly 4 days with just little charges while flashing, transfering files etc, will let the phone totally run down and remove battery and replace to check, to be honest i can't believe that all extended batterys arn't registered by the phone correctly or that the Kaiser\Tilt does not have the capability of an extended battery, if this was a problem with all extended batterys then legal issues would have been involved with battery sellers by now as the sale of extended batterys would be liable for the fact that the item sold is not of use as the prefix says "extended battery" what i can believe is that some of the early batterys or even current could have had manufacturing defects....
I will hit you back with my findings and if i'm wrong i'm wrong and will be returning the extended battery.
I will wager one testicle that you will return the battery. The battery is indeed an extended since it will outlast the OEM battery by at least a few hours before shutting down.

Best Way to Preserve Battery Life?

As you all know the o2/MWg Atom Life has an extremely short battery life with the original battery and i'm curious as to what you guys would recommend to preserve the battery life on the Atom Life. Heres a list of what i've done so far if you want to make the most of your battery life:
1. Change the battery to the XP-02 instead of the standard 1530mAh battery which comes standard.
2. Change the CPU Profile to 'Best Power' (Settings>System>CPU Profile)
3. Flash the ROM with one of MedKid's WM6.1 ROMs (advanced..sorta)
4. Reduce the intensity of the Backlight (Settings>System>Backlight)
Any others?
GSM - 3G
I haved tried all the methods as recommended can help but to a very limited extent indeed. I found out the best tip from MWG O2 website: if you don't need to use 3G band switch, change it to GSM, (go to Settings - Connections - Band Switch). the default value is Auto.
After that, the battery life of my Atom life increases significantly from less than a day to more than 2 days!

My O2 Atom Life phone came with XP-09 in a pretty-pack box from company in INDIA.
The battery lasts around 2 days without any problem with talktime aroung 1 hours in two days. Standby time is more than 2 days for sure with no calls made.
If you watch videos or audio or FM Radio, it lasts around a day or even less if too longer the video is watched.
Just changed to Band Switching to GSM and lets see how much difference in battery life I get, will post later.
Mine came with XP-02. And it lasts for max 1.5 days without making much phone calls. Anyways would try with XP-09 now.
my atom life use cpu profile normaly. max 6-7days(24hour) standby no call,no sms.. only received sms. hmm..
cpu profile?
hi hendranata, do you mind sharing this cpu profile? i'm using a wm6 cooked rom on my atom(not atom life/flame)and i saw a cpu profiler in the ext rom. i'm not sure if this the same but nothing happens if i run it i've read in so many threads and forums that the default atom battery is major complain of everybody, this might improve it, the batterry performance i mean. tia.

I've had my mwg atom life a week and it came with 1530mAh XP-09. So far, I'm very disappointed with battery life (1 day at best) and I'm looking into getting a replacement battery. Is it possible that I have a faulty battery or is this typical performance?
I've seen various sorts on ebay ranging from XP-02 1500mAh (which is presumably going to be marginally worse than my XP-09) to a 2400mAh which seems to be thicker and comes with a new cover to accomodate it - but then it's not going to fit in my case. I haven't seen a 3000mAh as mentioned in this forum. Do the replacement 1500 ish ones perform better? Obviously they shouldn't but some people's comments here seem to indicate that maybe they do...
Which batteries are other people using and are they standard size?

i personally think that ther's nothing wrong with ur battery.
o2 atom life is reknowned for their battery issue.
by following the few instructions given in the 1st post, you can slightly optimize your battery life. but dont have high hopes.

Battery drain
Hi
I had the same problem with the baterry, so I changed this:
1.- CPU Profile to "Best Power"
2.- Backlight reduce to 1
3.- Disable 3G if you don't use and change to GMS "Auto"
4.- If you use SPB Shell like me "THIS IS THE BIG PROBLEM" for default SPB consume a lot battery so you need disable the ANIMATE option into setting SPB Shell.
Before do this the battery in only 12hr are consumed all power, now in only 24hrs the battery are consumed 16% power battery without reload the battery. amazing no?
Hey, after using my new 1530mAh battery i bought from ebay i found that it lasts maybe a month with the occasional check of the screen and messages. When i play music(that's pretty much what my phone is for..) it'll last about 16 hours before running out.
I'm using:
1.One of the latest PDAViet ROMs
2.using the AUTO CPU profile(i know its a terrible idea)
3. backlight at 5
4. Radio at GSM900 (not auto)
5. WLAN and Bluetooth almost always off.
PS: buying the new battery was a GREAT idea for my case.

is it possible install higher capacity battery on V20 ?

hi
i have a h990ds v20 phone and need more battery capacitance. is it possible to introduce a battery more than 3200 mah (3.85 v) ?
thanks
I'm using a 10800ma battery I bought on Amazon. Getting about 65 hours of battery with about 12 hours of screen time. Maybe half of the screen on time was playing games. Streamed hours of music on my Bluetooth speakers during screen off time. This was what I considered heavy usage. another time I got over 90 hours with 7 hours SOT none of that gaming but some music streaming.

thanks but by using this kind of cover, the phone's thickness is increased and it's difficult to transport it. How good it would be for the internal battery to have a higher volume.
I want to buy a Perfine or Powerbear extended battery for this phone, at 6600mAh . It will make the phone a little thicker, but not as much as the 10000mAh ones. Shoot up a search on Amazon, you can't miss them.
As for the batteries that are the same size as the internal one and claiming to have a higher capacity than the stock one, they're a scam.
I also bought a 2 pack of 3300ma batteries and external charger for $28. So it's no thicker but you can swap batteries in 2 minutes and be back up and running at 100%
I use 10000mah ZeroLemon Tricell battery on my vs995 and it's sufficient.
