Hello all. I bought my wife a Dopod 818 Pro. Here's the info:
ROMv. 1.0.13.21WWE
ROM date 11/24/05.
Radio 01.13.20
Protocol 4.0.13.24
ExtRom 1.00.13.102
IPL 1.0.0
SPL 1.00.0000
GSM 01.13.20
OS 1.0.13.21
I am attempting to update to the latest ROM provided in these threads. I use Guest PC 1.9 to emulate Win XP w/latest SP.
I am able to connect activesync and transfer files etc. But when I run the ROM Update, as soon as the Dopod switches to Bootloader mode, the connection drops and the installation is cancelled.
Is this problem occuring because I use Guest PC or do I not have the correct drivers?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Update utility works directly to USB, and uses ActiveSync just to put a small exe file to the device and run it. The exe puts PDA to bootloader mode, then update utility communicates to bootloader directly with USB. I guess you should use a real host to reflash.
Yup
J,
You are absolutely right. I finally got a hand on a PC and the update went flawlessly.

I just tried WM2003 and came back to SER 1.2 without problems - I was told it's not possible without SD card. Am I so lucky?
Funny, I did the very same thing before reading it couldn't / shouldn't be done, makes me think though, what if it had all gone wrong!!!!!!
For those who have tried the WM2003, please advise me whether it's worth my risk (I'm still indecisive) :?
Just tried to upgrade from 1st version of WME2003 to the latest using the upgrade utility, no go. Goes into upgrade mode on PC & PPC, then progress bar screen on PPC goes to white, a few minutes later a error pop-up on PC telling me to reset & run utility again. When I do so same problem. I'm just curious what version on Activesync are you running & on OS on the Desktop
Thanks

Hey Erick,
I had the same problem with the 1st version of WM2003. I was unable to do the upgrade with the utility. It would seem like the version 4.00.01 of WM2003 is far more mature in terms of this sort of functionality. For example, ActiveSync would not connect with the device in standby. This is not the case in the new version of 2003 which goes to show that maybe some processes were not running.
Going by what I experienced with the older WM2003, I did not try an RUU flash to test if the newer version worked, but I won't be surprised if it does. I was running ActiveSync 3.7 with WinXP Pro.
Thanks Sheran. So I guess it's SD card time This is an ActiveSync problem not an OS problem? What do you think? SD card should work right?
The reason I'm suggesting ActiveSync is I am unable to use any ROM utility to flash any ROM version now, which I was able to do before i.e. SERv1.1.
I believe I had the previous version of ActiveSync back then & now ActiveSync freaks-out when I try to use the upgrade utility for any ROM.

I'm thinking this has more to do with the WM2003 1st version (3.04 build 13083) OS rather than your PC OS or even your ActiveSync. I think the reason some people can use the ROM Upgrade Utility is because they are running the newer version of WM2003 (Ver 4.00.01 build 13100) which seems to work well with ActiveSync.
Unfortunately if you install the older version, until I'm told otherwise, the only way to get out of it is to do an SD Card flash.
Thanks again Sheran I tend to use the SD method, wanted to not have to wait for two write processes. Oh well back to the tried and true method, for now 8)
I was running the newer version (build 13100)
Activesync 3.7, Windows XP Proffesional
Version of ActiveSync not compatible with the connected mobile Device
This is the error I receive no matter what I have read to do or not do to my Desktop PC.
These are the setting in the Device:
New I-Mate Jasjar with
ROM Version: 1.12.38 WWE
ROM Date 8/24/05
Radio Version: 1.03.00
Protocol Version: 42.36.P8
ExtRom Version: 1.12.120 WWE
I realize that there is a new Rom Update but I can't sync with my Desktop to get the file? 62 MB by the way.
These are the actions I took to try and rid this error message.
Cleared Temp folder (%temp%) in all user accounts.
In the registry deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services key
Deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
Uninstalled Microsoft Activesync from Add/Remove Programs
Deleted Activesync folder from Programs Files
Restarted the computer
Installed Microsoft Activesync 4.0 many times and 4.1.0 Build 4807 many times all the while deleting the other before the new install.
This is what happens after a new install.
The device is seen by my Computer running Windows XP SP2 and loads the device- At this point everything looks good.
ActiveSync start and actually connects to the device but only as a GUEST not as the device name that I imputed in the JASJAR.
NEXT the Error occurs “This Version of Microsoft ActiveSync is not compatible with the connected mobile device. Please upgrade to the latest Version of Microsoft ActiveSync and reconnect."
If I click on the OK button underneath the error. The device connects but I cannot explore the contents or sync to the device whatsoever.
Could anyone aid in getting this problem resolved. I have spent over 10 hours trying to figure this out looking at all other forums but no one seams to have a resolution.
This Link seam to have had the issue happen with eairlier version of ActiveSync but I have followed each step but still no resolution.

Update to Above
I just went out and purchased a new computer and installed Activesync 4.1 and outlook 2003 Xp on the XP Pro machine. When I went to connect the USB cable it found a new Pocket PC device but didn't list that it found the JASJAR. Then activesync started and it happened again.
This Version of Microsoft ActiveSync is not compatible with the connected mobile device. Please upgrade to the latest Version of Microsoft ActiveSync and reconnect."
When I click on OK I get connected as a Guest account only but can't see any items on the Pocket PC.
I had the same problem...
It's a compatibility issue with Antivirus.
Uninstalled the antivirus and the device got recognized
I've updated my T-Mobile US MDA to the shipping k-jam ROM and it seems to work fine, though I can no longer connect it to ActiveSync. When I connect the device, Windows detects it as a "Windows Mobile-based Device", but says that it cannot find drivers for it, so ActiveSync can't see it.
I've been looking around for a place to download drivers, but haven't found them. The imate site has a support area, but without an IMEI to an imate device, I can't get access to it. Do they have the Windows drivers in there?
Make sure you have ActiveSync 4.1. Earlier versions will not connect to the latest ROMs. 4.1 is available directly as a download from Microsoft or you can find it on the T-Mo CDROM (if you have a T-Mo device)
I had it already, and reinstalled as well, but still no love. The firewall is off as well.
Searching for drivers on the T-Mo CD didn't turn up anything either.
I have same problem - sometimes - but then, when keep on disconnecting and connecting cable to the phone, after a couple of tries it connects successfully.

Hi...not sure if I'll be able to offer any insight...
I've an iPAQ h5550 too & have managed to successfully update to the latest ROM & firmware available.
From my recollection, they are all cab files.
Upon running the exe files you downloaded, it will unpack into a local directory & subsequently transfer the cab files to the iPAQ via AS.
Then, you should watch the screen for instruction & follow them to complete the update.
These are updates...not upgrades so they do not need the iPAQ to be placed into bootloader mode.
I think with 5550, they do away with bootloader mode to update the ROM or firmware. Very similar to the Jornada range.
Did you try hard resetting the device?
Simultaneously pressing the iTask, Calendar & reset buttons for 10 secs will do the trick.
Here's the link to the info: http://www.ipaqrepair.co.uk/ipaq_battery.php
After the hard reset, you will have to perform the updates in the right order to bring the firmware to version 1.10 & ROM to version 1.10.
If I'm not mistake, it should be as follows:
Firmware update: 1.00.18
ROM Update: 1.10
Firmware update: 1.10
Hope this helps...
Hi folks!
I have a O2 Xda Orbit (in the wiki, the cruiser version).
Whenever I run the update tool to update whatever (splash screen gsm radio version, rom) it spits out this error:
The Image file is corrupted. Please check your Update Utility
What is wrong?
Device details:
ROM Version: 3.4.206.2 WWE
ROM Date: 4/18/2007
Radio Version: 02.67.90
Protocol Version: 4.1.13.28

Thanks in advance
Are you in Windows Vista? (Try Windows XP)
Do you have an SDHC card? (Take it off)
And don't forget to run USPL before you flash anything.
Also you can search for a newer version of the update utility (although I don't know if that will work).
thanks for replying
Hi!
First, thanks for replying.
USPL is the one that makes my screen show a tux pinguin, right? (how cool... can we run linux on that? )
if I run uspl firts it freezes showing a penguin and its not connected to computer via activesync, therefore not able to connect with rom updater
I will try to remove sdhc card
