Netfront problem - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hello,
I installed trial version of Netfront 3.2 to my s200 but after opening and entering an URL, it does not connect and open the URL. I tried with different connections and different URLs. Nothing.
Then I uninstalled it and installed 3.1 full version. This time even more weird, when I click the icon of Netfront, the program opens and closes itself instantly.
Netfront is the only browser that opens some of the sites I use and i need it. What do you think can be the problem and the solution?
:?:

netfront
I have been using the technical preview package (pre-release) netfront 3.3 v1.05 which is working wonderfully. It is still in beta and net-front has been updating it regularly but it works flawlessly for me. Note that it is time-limited so if you install it there will come a time where it will stop working and you will have to uninstall it and use their new beta (or final release if it's out).
Here is where you can download it: http://nfppc.access.co.jp/english/about_v33.html
I have also been using it because of the great versatility of browser settings and that it gives me access to the most web pages.
apap

Yes apap I 100% agree with you. Netfront 3.3 is the best browser for the pocket pc platform.
There is a lot of hype for the Opera Beta 2, but in reality it does not even come close to NetFront, though this is my personal view.
Hope Netfront soon release the next beta or final version as the current technical preview (1.05) expires on 30th April
Kind Regards

Netfront
The new beta is ready. 1.06

Can anybody recommend an alternative web browser?

Hi,
Can anyone recommend an alternative (Free) web browser for my Vodafone V1640?
A download link would be nice too!
Thanks
Ok,
After lengthy discussions with our account manager at Vodafone, it would seem that the standard IE browser that ship has some faults accessing Https:// sites (such as internet banking). Obviously this isnt acceptable for what we need!
I'll let this board know when the faults are resolved. Hopefully i may be able to post a flash which fixes these problems.
Some folks, including me, are liking Opera. See this thread for download and setup info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35595&highlight=opera
Cheers.
Do give NetFront 3.3 (Technical Preview 103) a try. I really like it.
This will also support Flash Player once the commercial version is out.
For people having problems with https sites again try Netfront. My original PIE was unable to open my bank account site but Netfront manages to do so.
Kind Regards
agree with srmz, been using netfront too. Give the 3.3 a try, works till 31 January iirc, when I presume the retail version will come out, so gives you ample time to test it out

For the record, PIE handles my Nationwide banking https site wonderfully.
Yup, would recommend NetFront 3.3, its great. Wish they would release the commercial version soon, I would buy it instantly.
Cheers, Vikas.

Netfront Technology (104) is out and I think it is much better than the beta version of Opera.

Opera 8.5 for WM5

This is not the Sharp version that has to be patched with a modified .dll to work, this is the real thing. Unfortunately, only a beta so far, and only a 45 Day Testversion at that, but very nice to look at nontheless, and it natively starts in VGA Mode.
http://www.opera.com/download/mobil... Pocket PC phones running Windows Mobile 5.0.
Thanks Rapax,
Just downloaded it and will soon install.
Thanks once again for sharing this vital information
Kind Regards
After a brief trial:
Page rendering is probably the best (better than PIE and Netfront 3.3)
Does not handle mail attachments in web based e-mail accounts such as Gmail. Both PIE and Netfront 3.3 do support file attachments.
Does not support flash sites though I have Macromedia flash player 6.0 on my Jasjar and PIE uses it. Netfront will take advantage of flash sites once the commercial version is available.
In terms of speed Opera appears to be the fastest compared to PIE and Netfront 3.3
Don't know if there is a way to define a user-agent because in its current form it forces us to mobile versions of web sites. I could not visit my hotmail site and it forces me to the mobile msn site. Likewise for www.handango.com
So all in all I have mixed feelings regarding this browser. Good in some areas but not the best. For my needs Netfront is still the overall winner. (However these are just my views)
Again may be it is only me but after I have used and closed opera (really closed) it prevents Planmaker to start up. I have to reset the Jasjar to be able to use planmaker again.
Regards
Sweet Lord, it's gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
THIS is the browser that should be included with WM5.0.
EDIT: TAB doesn't work to move between fields...minor point.
Sharp version - new version
What's the difference compared to the Sharp-hacked one?
Do you see any improvement?
I have that, and it's working well.
The major problem I have is in using java applets. Unfortunately it seems a problem only Nefront 3.3 will be able to solve.
Opera looks good on initial usage.
Seems very kind to the RAM, did not see any leakage unlike with PIE
I ve tried it but it doesnt start. I ve installed in sd and ram but doesnt start. Any idea?
No errors. the clock spin 4 times and nothing hapens.....
Is there a way to import my PIE bookmarks?
Has this version fixed the double-space bug when entering stuff into text fields?
I am using it too. I think this browser looks especially nice on these model of phones because of the landscape screen orientation, and VGA.
it seems to work very quickly, as well and I did not have a problem with java applets. in fact I went to my bank site and alot of other sites that used java with no problem. Not sure how they manage to fit everything and resize everything to that small screen but for right now it will be my browser of choice.
It handles new windows very well and like other said doesn't take alot of ram. i do find it runs better when installed on storage memory as oppose to memory card storage.
i am going to continue to test it though. I have not played with netfront 3.3 as much.. but i like opera alot better.so far.
those that have not tried it I highly recommend it.
I didn't like Opera 8.5. Personally, I prefer PIE with Multi IE... can't find any better!

Best VGA Browser

I am soon to get a XDA Exec, and I was wondering what the best VGA web browser for the Universal is. I dont want to have to make my whole system VGA, so it would be better if the browser had VGA options as default. Is there any way to use PIE in VGA without changing the whole system? Which is best out of minimo, opera and netfront?
Thanks
The best one out of these three is FtxPbrowser . (with the mui hack)
You may want to consider....
You may also want to look at Opera. The version for WM5 is still in beta though, but you can download and try it out. I'm guessing that the final browser will be released within the next month or so. The beta is free to try, but you'll have to pay for the final version. Great browser though.
Justin
Go with Opera. I've tried the three you mentioned, and while they're all quite ok, I found minimo to be painfully slow, and NetFront to often have problems displaying pages correctly. Opera installed and worked flawlessly right from the start.
yes Opera is best around at the moment:
http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/products/winmobileppc/index.dml
I had problems with font size using opera... some fonts are very big at some www places.. using netfront it seems ok. opera may be more compatible with JavaScripts, etc.. but I found Netfront more optimized to the mobile environment: virtual canvas size, fast rendering mode, etc.. it loads faster..
Thanks alot for the help. Does Opera need a VGA patch to run in VGA, or does it do it by default?
Thanks
Default.
On the OPERA site, it states the beta is going to end June 1st 2006. Does that mean after that date, the application will stop working unless we buy it from them?

yes, you are right. After that, they may release full retail version or they may release beta 2

Erm...beta 2 has been out for about two months now, and they've removed the limited duration thing.
I am testing out the PIEPlus V2.0 Beta1 on my Universal. Not bad with performance. It allows 2 views (normal vs column) and tab browsing, pretty convienent. No font issue like Opera. Worth a try...
I'am using a final version of NetFront 3.3 browser and i'm think for VGA device is the best of all browser. Final version 3.3 support VGA displays, WM5.0, Flash, Java, tables and other web elements (and its very fast)...

could you post a link to this version, all i can find is the trial version
I today downloaded their latest trial version. Maybe I am doing something wrong but it still does not support flash and java and has the usual limitations of the previous trial versions. Though the final commercial version will support all this.
There is also a news item on their site that the commercial version will be available by end of this month for US $ 29.80

I have just looked on the Opera site and it is still saying it expires June 1st, where did you see the version that doesn't expire?

Where di dyou get the final version of Netfront 3.3 as the version on its website is just a technical preview?
I think we have not answered the original question yet (as posted in the very beginning of this subject).
Which web browser that will work in high resolution (VGA) even though the WM5 is running in normal QVGA mode?
Does either NetFront or Opera actually display the browser in VGA mode even the WM5 running in QVGA mode or it only works in VGA mode if the WM5 running in VGA mode.
I myself personally prefer to run my Uni in normal QVGA mode, but for certain application, I would love VGA. PocketXPDF for example, is excelent! Its actually display the PDF file in high VGA resolution even though the WM5 is running QVGA. Other excellent examples are: Logmein.com that can display full 640 x 480 remote desktop smoothly though the WM5 is running QVGA, and lastly, Google Map, also does the same thing.
So, back to the original question, which web browser that can do that?

Only the retail version provides the user to use flash and java.

Best Web Browser for Treo Pro?

Hi guys!
i´ve just donwloaded the new opera 9.5 beta for my treo pro and at the beggining worked fine, but now, when i close the app, and try to re-open it later, it freezes and do not open at all. it only appears the name of the last webpage i tried to open. so i have to do a soft reset and will work again, but soon or later, it happens once more
what do u think about it?
i´ve tried to install it on the main memory, and it ´s the same
it doesn´t re-open after close it by clicking in the upper-right corner.
hi jumanjii,
I've had the same experience with the treo pro and opera mobile 9.5 beta. Basically if you use the built in task manager to kill Opera, it causes problems. There must be part of Opera that is not fully shutdown.
Until they resolve this, use the menu in the bottom right and select exit. This will shut opera down properly.
Im not certain but i think this is related to a bug with the opera widgets. Im not sure why but when ive had this problem sometimes the opera widgets folder/app is still running.
Id say get used to using the exit command in the menu, switch back to 8.6 or wait for the final version of Opera.
Skyfire FTW!
I vote for skyfire as well.

why would skyfire NOT work in any country except us and canada. its only a browser and thats it. It depends on weather u have a good signal or bad signal that mostly dictates how fast the internet.
Opera 8.65 works perfect for me. I haven't tried the Skyfire yet.
have u experienced very slow speed when browsing the net?¿?¿ i mean, with opera and internet explorer either. even loading google´s webpage takes ages!!!
Will IE 6 mobile be released as as installable app or will it only be available in ROM on new devices?

Skyfire's website says that the browser is only supported in US and Canada. Apparently you can put in random numbers for the phone number during the registration process and get the cab. So i stand corrected.
BUT, they still dont official support its use outside the US. I think the reason is that skyfire uses its own servers (probably located in the US) to render the page and then sends it as a compressed image; Being outside the us means your introducing a 200ms delay (for us aussies atleast) to every action.
*completely non technical comment: does anyone else find the skyfire ceo product demos to be a bit weird and off putting; They seem way to sure of themselves and dismisive of other technologies they are borrowing from; it reminds me of the attitude of people during the dotcom boom. i dunno...

Thanks for enlightning me about that I had no Idea guess I take somethings for granted here. To me though a browser is still a browser however now that u said the skyfire servers are most likely in the US it does make sense.
IRIS browser
Ive been trying the open source IRIS browser the last few days. Its been good so far, very thumb friendly.
Opera Mini
I still am a fan of Opera Mini which works great after installing JRebeiro_EsmertecJbed.cab
I will try SkyFire today though
Best web browser
I live in Chile, in south america, and SKYFIRE work with any problems... great. but i use this only for web page with flash content, like youtube or others 'tubes' ... but for the rest, Opera is the better choice. IMHO.

I use Opera 9.5 with Tf3D and haven't had any issues at all with it freezing or locking up or anything along those lines at all. Not sure if it is a function of the TF3D or the build I am using. The issue may be the build...
hi
with my blackstone i use opera 9.5 but with the treo netfront 3.5 rc9 is the best solution... you can download it for free on the access web site.
My treo Pro get some curious issue with Opera 9.5 : when launched, all my "sounds & notifications" choices was deleted, no alarms at all was selected. It happens every time i launch Opera !
Are you experienced the same Issue with Opera ?
