I had the same problem after I dropped it on the floor. I fixed it myself by open the case and put plastic button back on the switch.

im send back to repair center help me check what prob, but....haiz..my country o2 service technician so un-pro!!!Im flash my mini to chineseOS then it show DOPOD startup scr then he said my set oledi change mainboard to DOPOD BOARD!!!
then the technician is PRO or ?? :?:
ha ha, I also install Dopod Tradition Chinese rom on my Imate Jam.
What happen w/ yr machine are most likely the plastic button of the case goes into wrong place after drop (and I think it's a common problem of Magician since we are not the only 2 have this kind of problem after dropping it). The plastic button may slip and push to the on/off switch all the time. (And that's why we encounter a Hard-Reset everytime we do a Soft-reset beause Power + SoftReset = Hardreset)
So, just open yr case http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=44841 (look for disassembly.rar for instruction how to open the case) and make sure the button are in place

My QTEC 2020 (ROM 1.72.01GER) performs a hard reset when power button is pushed.
Device is unusable!
Any ideas how to fix this ??
a good suspect i guess would be the softreset button inside the hole in the buttom of the device have got stuck
since if you push that and power button the device do a hardreset
Well, looks like this is pretty unusual.
Let me add that a soft reset is not possible anymore. Once you push the button you realize that there is resistance but nothing happens.
Of course did not change anything. No software- or hardware changes werde performed in the last couple of months.
Since I need my QTEC very urgently I would appreciate any help very much!

Sounds like Rudegar got it spot on. If you can't tap the soft reset to unstick it, then either you'll need to take it apart or send it off for repair.
any suggestion how i could perform softreset on touch dual?
Hold the on/off switch for 3 sec. (If that doesnt help remove battery.)
look like computer where it will shutdown the WM6. thanks....

You could also use the soft-reset button which is inconveniently located under the back cover. Take the cover off and you will find the soft-reset button just above the USB connector.
Or (if the phone is still responsible) use a softreset tool like ShutXP.
Many Taskmanagers also have this feature.
So the power button on my phone is busted.
Long story short, someone dropped it and the button broke.
Anyways, i was using the camera button to turn before, but then now it dont work.
It still turns on when i get a call or have my headset plugged in to it.
Do any of you guys know how to change a button to become a power button. maybe make the camera become a power button.
Thanks for your help.
use "do not lock buttons" in Keylock menu and than install KeyLock app to manage autolocking after suspend (to prevent auto poweron) and set it to "lock after wake up").
You can also use Battery Status to do that
I have seen an issue where the power button was knocked out of place, to resolve this, I took the back off the unit and pushed the button back into place, this resolved the problem, it is also possible the solder points have been broken... really easy to solder back on.
cheers

same problem here

WELL then, it was just the main motherboard that had displaced itself, making the ON-button misaligned with the button on the board... so, i pressed the motherboard in place, and voila! the phone is good as new
i almost died of nerves, but it turned out all right after all... *phew*
My Vogue took a swim the other day and after some emergency triage, I was able to salvage the device with the exception of one thing-- the power button. The device turns on when you put in the battery, but after it goes to sleep, there is no way to turn the screen back on (unless someone calls me!).
My side button still works. Has anyone has any experience remapping the "screen on" command to a side button? any other ideas?
Thanks!
WOW! my power button just broke yesterday too and i had the exact same question!! But i actually dropped mine and i know the power button is either jammed or broken because it doesnt spring back. I basically have the same question. Is there anyway we can change the side camera button 2 act as the power button?
Thanks (and sorry 4 asking the question twice)
Personally, I would get a new device, since that may not be the only side effect, hopefully you have insurance, you do right?
Anyways, try AEButton Plus, set the camera button to whatever function (i.e. triple tap) to switch display on/off.
Then goto Settings>System>Key Lock, and change the setting to "Do not lock buttons"
Also, this is NOT freeware.
PHM Screen saver...
I had same issue with Power button - I cloned a Telus I got on Kijiji for $80.00 - Once I get AAA Auth working all will be well...
I used to use something called PHM Screensaver... and Yes RESET works too...
BTW - Anyone know where to get parts like that (IE Power button?) - LCD is easy to find, and I don't need it...

I haven't opened it up... but usually it's part of the main circuit board. Unless you're good with soldering tiny little pins... you'll probably have to buy the board and swap it out.
In the case that you happen to have mad soldering skills... it's most likely a fairly common momentary switch. You could possibly rob one out of some other gadget or order one on ebay. The hardest part of that would be getting one that fits where the old one does.
Actually, you won't need AEButton Plus, just turn the lock off.
You could aslo disable "time out power off" type of stuff...
and use AE buttons to turn the screen on and off..
as far as the broken one, i'd dissasemble and see if tis' the
actual switch, or if ti's just the plastic button going to the switch.
Has anyone been succesfull in in repairing the power button? I've dropped my phone only twice in the last two years and both times the spring in the power button broke. I'm beginning to think this is the world's most fragile phone.
hi friends
i hav htc touch gsm and now its power button is totally dead, i was starting it from sleep mode with headphone by double pressing its button(just like we do while making calls )now the problem is that the mobile gets turned off now i want to start it is there ne alternate ways to do that ..i visited the service center they said that to recover the problem some hardware must be changed which cost me more than 50% of the moblie price....help me out guys i want to start my phone....
thnx
me too
hi me too facing the same problem did u get any solution for this if there is some way out to shift the function on the camera button maybe i don know.
OP, what did they say needed to be changed on the phone, did you need a new power button switch or something? you could always try and source a replacement one.
If ti is the button that hits the switch is broken, maybe a new case?
go to setting>system>key lock>and select dont lock buttons
when your mob sleeps simply press any button to on the disply
