I can't seem to connect my qtek9000 device to my IBM notebook via USB, well not exactly everything else works except Active sync ... are there any known limitations to this type of connection..
I also had some occasional connection issues with original ROM and Activesync 4.1. The following method worked fine for me:
- Upgrade to Activesync 4.1 if you haven't done so already.
- Unplug the Qtek and turn it off using the power button. Connect the USB cable. The Qtek should power on automatically and Activesync will detect it.
But anyway - I suggest you to upgrade to the latest Qtek ROM (UNI_QTEK_13077_176_10900_WWE_Ship.exe). I have no connection issues with the new ROM.
Does this ROM Update apply to the Qtek 9000 as sold by Mobitel d.d. in Slovenia..
Sure! The original Qtek ROM, which you are using now is UNI_Qtek_WWE_11364_151_10300_Ship.exe, so you can revert back at any time. You will only have to reenter GPRS & MMS settings, which is not a big deal. PM me, if you need the settings.
Until the HTC (QTEK) decided to publish the Official Upgrade I was running I-MATE JASJAR AKU2 ROM, without any problems whatsoever.

Have you seen cardexport? A great little utility to make the sd card on your exec look like an external drive on your pc. Not a substitute for activesync but infinitely faster and more reliable method for file transfers to/from exec/pc. You can find it here:
http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/
Have you seen cardexport?
I think that much better and cheapeer ( because is free) is WM5torage.
Now you can find super soft for your Universal - "the most expensive card reader on the world"

Hello,
I'm currently trying to get a second hand I-Mate syncing with ActiveSync using a USB cradle. Everything else works fine, with the exception of a USB sync. When my I-Mate cradle is plugged in via USB, and the powered-on I-Mate is placed in the cradle, a Windows device message appears stating "USB Device Not Recognized". This happened with another I-Mate I was able to try and on multiple computers with multiple cradles. I'm quite baffled. I've tried verstions 3.7, 3.8 and 4.0 of ActiveSync.
I would really like to get the USB cradle working so I can try WM2005 and not have to xfer software to the I-Mate over my GRPS connection
Thanks in advance.
-Chris.
Hi Chris.
That certainly is odd since you've tried multiple ActiveSync versions on multiple PCs with multiple i-Mates!
What OS are the PCs running?
Normally when you first connect the i-mate via the cradle after installing ActiveSync, XP will launch the Add Hardware Wizard, which should find the drivers as ActiveSync installs them.
I have heard that reverting from ActiveSync 4 to 3.x can cause problems, but if you started with 3.7 & worked up from there, that isn't your issue.
Can you launch ActiveSync manually via Start - All Programs etc.?
Perhaps check the XP driver-signing policy - maybe it's stopping the driver from installing. I'd normally suggest trying a different USB port, but trying another PC covers that one .
Good luck - I know this one would annoy the hell out of me too!

The PCs that I've tried have been running XP. My work machine SP1 while my home machine SP2.
I tried disabling the windows firewall in SP2 to no avail. The two other units I tried were in various states of order so that could be contributing to the issue.
The touchscreen is unresponsive on one while the other is stuck showing serial information (both issues I've found out how to resolve reading this forum, that'll make 2 more functional I-Mates!)
I have since completley removed ActiveSync from my PC at home. When I place my I-Mate into the cradle, no windows device messages appear and when I go into the device manager the I-Mate isn't even seen anymore.
I might just cut my losses and go cough up $40 for a usb bluetooth adapter for the desktop and sync that way. I'd rather not do this as I don't believe I can upgrade the ROM via bluetooth, and I'd very much like to throw WM2005 on one of these puppies, providing I can even get that far.
Ok, so a good majority will probably hate me after this.
My sync problem was caused by me not using a 5v power adapter. Yes, it was that simple. My power adapter looks like some kind of alien as it's being converted with 3 devices to conform to standard 110v north american AC. It was purchased for European users originally.
BUT, here's my saving grace. The I-Mate I was playing with won't sync via USB, it will do bluetooth and even serial but not usb???
Even more annoying is the unit I'm now using has an annoying issue with the touchscreen. If I receive a call or take care of any other incoming data activity, the screen freezes. I will not be able to use the touch screen until the battery is taken out. Very annoying, to the point I'm using the bluetooth unit. It's got the latest firmwares of the units (1.72wwe, 1.14 radio, 1337.38 for g (general?) bluetooth unit has 1,66wwe, 1.10 radio and 1337.2x for g) ...haha, sorry I thought that one was awesome and very fitting for a faulty device... just not the right number for a release...
Hi Guys,
New to the ppc scene, so please be gentle!
I've had a search through the forum, and can't find the answer to my problem, so please help me, if you can.
I have just been given an imate jam by my dad, his old work phone. It hasn't been used for approximately 6 months, so I had to charge the battery (and back up battery) to get it up and running.
Now I've got it charged up and switched on I've encountered a problem:
When I connect my Jam to my PC (XP Pro) it lights up the charge LED but then nothing, no installing drivers or anything. When I start activesync it doesn't see the Jam, when I go to device manager on my pc it's not there.
The Jam has also reset itself a few times, so I was thinking I should upgrade/reflash the software - but I can't do that when the PC doesn;t see the Jam.
Have I missed something, done something stupid or is the Jam knackered? Any help would me muchos appreciated
Many thanks in advance.
My device is an imate jam, details below:
ROM Version: 1.03.00 WWE
ROM Date: 11/01/04
Radio Version: 1.01.00
Protocol Version: 1337.38
Ext ROM Version: 1.03.163 WWE
Not sure if this helps anyone help me with my problem, but thought the more information the better!
Thanks in advance for you help
Check your connection settings in ActiveSync.
Ok, I've just tried the settings you suggested, though for some reason I can only select COM4?? I'm using activesync version 4.1.4841.0
When I try and connect I get the error shown in the attached image
Although some have had luck with AS4.x, others as well as myself have experienced that it doesn't work very well with the Magician. Use AS3.8 and it works flawlessly.
ok, I've changed to activesync v3.8 and still no joy - it just goes in circles looking for the device on COM4
I'm showing:
COM1 Not Installed
COM2 Not Installed
COM4 Available
Infrared Port Not Installed
USB USB is Available
This is driving me crazy!!
Normally when the magician is plugged in to the usb port, windows should recognize this and go through the usual driver installation procedure. If not disconnect the magician, switch off all settings in AS and reboot your PC. After the PC has booted and you logged-in, connect the magician to a different usb port. If the windows plug+play install routine does not appear, go to control panel and add the device manually. Once the device is added, then put back your settings in AS.
ok, 2 reboots later!!
when I connect it (on a different port) all that happens is the LED goes Orange to indicate that its charging - no drivers are installed.
When I go to Add Hardware it can't find the Jam (tried changing the port) and if I go to device manager its not there (not even with a ! Warning next to it).
I'm now trying to add it from a list, but I can't find imate or HTC in the list of manufacturers.
I'm totally stumped, this is insane!
Any more ideas?
Try hard resetting the magician then check AS settings in the magician also.
I've done a hard reset and rebooted my pc again, still nothing, even when I try and add it manually.
I've even tried connecting in bootloader mode, but that won't work either!
Could it be a hardware fault? Or more likely a software thing?

Hi
I had the same problem today, it turned out to be a faulty cable(brand new spare). I used a different cable and all is good.
I've now tried 3 different cables, 2 latops and a desktop PC and am having the same problem no matter what - I reckon my Jam's screwed up somehow!
Take a look on the connector, try to clean it(with alcohol preferably and with battery out of jam). You have to have AS installed before you connect the jam to pc for the first time, otherwise it will cause problems. Did you try BT connection to active sync? Did it work? Did your dad experience these problems too?
Ok, there's definately a problem with my device.
I can pair it up via BT and transfer files etc, but as soon as I connect with Activesync I get the same error message as I posted earlier in this thread.
I've tried cleaning the mini-usb port (battery out) with alcohol, still no joy.
Spoke to my dad, says he never used activesync, just used it as a phone and a sat nav, nothing more.........
Starting to get really wound up by this now. Unless anyone has any other ideas (dropping it from a great height??!!) I think I'm gonna have to send it to a repair centre for them to have a look at it
i had an intermittent problem like this wherw windows would say a USB device connected to the system was malfunctioning etc..
It cleared up after a while donno why... when uve connected the JAM, wiggle the connector around a bit and see if anything happens....
The message you get is not necesarilly caused by faulty device, I got that message many times before I was able to properly configure my active sync over BT.
the cable supplied with imate jam looks like a normal mini usb cable but its not.
its different then the mini usb cable. You cant use a mini usb cable (from ur camera, card reader etc.) with your imate jam.
Once I used my camera mini usb cable with imate jam and i got the same error which omhaigh is having. Netither Windows recognize my imate jam nor activesync. I plugged in my imate jam cable and it was all good again.
In short, you need cable supplied with imate jam to connect it with pc.
The Magician's USB cable is a standard one. I've been using various USB cables on my laptop. home desktop, and office PC without any problems.
yeah, it is completley standard, ive used 5 different cables and all work,
I've now tried a whole host of PC's and Laptops at work, using several mini usb cable and bluetooth (both built in and dongle on different machines) following the advice above and in the BT active sync thread.
No matter what I do (including cleaning the ports with alcohol etc) I get no joy what so ever, and always end up with the same result!!
I've read that connecting the device to a pc before installing activesync can cause problems.......I'm starting to think that perhaps my dad's done that and either can't remember or is too embarrassed to admit it! Is there a fix if this is what has happened?
I'm guessing its gonna have to go to a repair centre
I have repeatedly difficulties in using my German T-Mobile Vario II as a USB modem for my laptop computer.
As long as there was no or few additional software installed it worked fine as described. I started the wireless modem application on Vario II, started the modem, plugged the USB cable into my laptop, installed the driver and was successfully online by using the dialer application.
But after installing some more software on Vario II, such as MS VoiceCommand, PhoneAlarm, Tomtom Navigator 5.21, something seems to fail at its USB interface. After starting the wireless modem application and starting modem mode neigther my laptop nor my desktop PC will recognize the TyTN as a USB device any longer. The PCs even do not detect a USB device being plugged in, similar to plugging in a cable with nothing connected at the other end.
At the Vario II side the power LED won't go on as it normally will do when connected to USB because of recharging its battery. So it seems the TyTN USB interface is totally dead in modem emulation mode. As soon as I will stop the modem emulation on TyTN the PC will immediately recognize a USB device beeing plugged in, so there is no hardware failure with the USB interface.
After re-enabling ActiveSync the Vario II will synchronise normally. Doing soft resets and full power-off/on cycles will not solve the problem, only doing a hard reset with erasing of memory will help. As this problem has ocurred already twice with my device and I will have to do a further hard reset now, I would be very interested in knowing what is really causing this problem and how to avoid it or repair it without need for a complete re-installation every time.
Has anybody else to deal with the same problem or is it unique to my device?
Regards, Gerd
Hi Gerd,
I also have this problem, do you know if this has been resolved yet?
Regards,
Chris.
ah
This happenned to me this week too. I ahve been away and uising the device as a modem all week but it completely disabled my active sync. I had to rr install it when I got home! WHen I ran tomtom it told the modem disconnected and vice verse.

You may try to Un-Check the "advanced" setting of USB conection (Settings>Connection>USB to PC setting.... it works for many other USB related problems.
When you installed the GPS for TomTom did you choose to use COM8?
That breaks wireless modem on Orange UK M3100 and UK T-Mobile VarioII's..(and you get EXACTLY the behaviour shown - as well as an error if you try to turn off the advanced mode for usb connect on activesync) so i guess its the same on all tytn's..
try changing any com ports you have set to different values and see if it works..
USB Modem problems
Hi,
If all esle fails, try pdanet. It can be used on trial free for 10 days and then costs $20 from memory. It works first time, every time for me after weeks of hassle with usb modem.
Highly reccommended for none techies.

I forgot to add the web site

You may still have the same problem with PDANet. I installed it and it connected without any other changes. I was very impressed until the next time I tried to syncronise as the ActiveSync didn't recognise my TyTn was attached (via USB cable)!
However it appears to be fixed by unchecking the "advanced" setting of USB conection on the PocketPC as suggested previously.

I've bought today a Qtek S200.
IPL/SPL: 2.09.0000
GSM: 2.07.20
OS: 2.9.7.28
The first I did was a Hard Reset to the Qtek S200 and then...
Because of the problems with some application and antivirus I did a complete format to my computer. I just installed WinXP PRO SP2, all the updates from Microsoft Update, .Net Framework 3, Outlook 2002 and ActiveSync 4.1 (both came in the CD from Qtek). (I have also disabled Windows Firewall).
Then I think, I've done all the steps right (I think):
1) I connected the USB cable to de PC
2) I tried to plug the USB cable to the Qtek S200 when te PPC was OFF and nothing happened. Then with the Qtek S200 ON (in today's screen) I plug the other side of the USB cable and ActiveSync does not recognize my S200.
I dunno what to do to make ActiveSync syncronize with my Qtek S200, could you please help me???? I've been trying to syncronize for more then 6 hours (doing all the stuff...)
THNX,
Annita
Try this:
remove your activesync (de-install the software)
reboot your pc
turn on your qtek without the usb cable attached
plugin your qtek on the usb cable.
Does you pc find the device ?? (ding dong sound)
yes ? good, your pc finds it.
take out the usb again
install activesync 4.2
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync42.mspx
try again, and see if it works.
My PC does nothing when I connect the S200...
Annita
If the USB cable connection does not work, it is possible to update ROM via Bluetooth ActiveSync syncronization????

It might work, however I would first look into why you usb doesn't work
when you plugin the usb cable, do you see the phone charge ? (led ontop change to orange) you might have a bad cable or you pc has a problem with the usb port (have your tried another usb port ? or removing all usb devices and only using the phone cable ?)
Yes to all.
When I connect the USB cable, the Qtek begins to charge the battery, and the orange led flicks.
I have tried on my PC and on my Laptop and didn't work in any of both.
I have tried with only he USB phone cable and did not work either.
Anyone has tried to update ROM via Bluetooth???
THNX,
Annita
Annita, make sure you have DHCP turned on on your PC. The virtual USB NIC should come up as 169.254.2.2, I believe. I was never able to get it to work without using DHCP on the PC side.
What is the virtual USB NIC????
Annita
When you plug in the USB cable, the PC creates a "fake" network adapter for the PPC and adds that to your list of network connections.
Just make sure DHCP service is started. Right-click My Computer -> Manage -> Services and Applications -> Services -> DHCP Client.
OK, the service was and is ON.
The thing is that I can syncronize via Bluetooth, but not with the USB cable (and I have the original cable and another mini-USB cable).
Annita
Bluetooth Activesync Sycronization will not work b'coz while upgrading, the phone resets itself, N it powers on in the upgrade process therefore, bluetooth of the phone will not be available then.
So, I dont its possible 2upgrade via bluetooth Activesync.
OK, thnx.
Annita
anita and the usb
anita, go to start setting control pannel, go to phones and modems and see the modems are installed there. windows (sh***t) store all the garbadge possible. can be that it identfy usb device like usb modem and put it on com 1 not that active sync works auto on com1. so check connection settings on activesync. + which use port you use? fron pannel or the rear of the PC?
is that a laptop if yes what model.
i'll try to help as much as i can
xman
ok, i have the same problem as you do, or at least a similar. i cant get my sync to work...
active sync 4.2
active sync says "critical communication error, try restarting your device", the active sync troubleshoot tells me that i dont have a ip adress (the link to microsoft does not work), although i have a network connection that my pc created (169.254.2.2). the active sync even appears in green.
my firewall and the win firewall does not interfere with this. switching off the firewalls does not improve this at all.
does anyone know a solution to this? thanks
I'll try what xmanmaster says, but I'm not at home until sunday...
Thnx,
Annita
Did this problem ever get resolved? I have the same issues, tried a wizard and a hermes. Not detected as a usb device, the charging light comes on. Both phones work on another PC. I have tried uninstalling activesync and rebooting phone/PC in every order I can think of.
UPNP (Universal Plug 'n Play) service is required
Hi all,
please make sure that the UPNP service is running on the desktop.
It's required for device detection as well as synchronisation with the WCE device.
A quite detailed description of all potential problems with ActiveSync can be found at Chris De Herrera's website.

I was wondering if it was possible through some program hack or setup to use the HTC wizard as a wifi adapter for my computer. i've heard that WM6 has a program that does that but i'm very skeptical about upgrading.
