Hi all
I've found several bugs with this great app and my JasJar updated to last ROM.
After installing Resco File Explorer 5.35 on my SD card it happens that, if I close and start again Resco File Explorer, the RecBin icon desappears from tree structure. It seems also that its functionality is missing. In my SD there's still a folder named Recycled, but if I remove a file it doesn't go into that folder neither RecBin icon appears in tree structure.
But this is the less I found. Infact the whole app runs partially. The botom menu bar is loaded partially, as you can see in my screenshot posted below:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This should be the correct functionality:
Did anybody experience this? Any Solution?
The top one is WM5 the bottom is WM2003SE. Nothing wrong there....
Edit: Oops....OR NOT. LOL
No clue why it's like that mate, but you can still access it all from Menu button.
Uhm...it's not quite this way. From menu I can't delate files and to do it I have to tap and hold over the file to manage a pop up menu and tap delate option. In my opinion it seems to be a bug...
:roll:
It's not a bug. In "options" there's a setting to "Use WM5 softkeys" (or something similar). Untick that and you'll have the old WM2003 bottom bar that you want. I prefer the WM5 style myself though....
As for the recycle bin, go to your phone's root directory, then go up one level, and you can access your Recycle bin. the "~Recycle Bin" folders aren't where you're supposed to access your trashed items.
ThX so much!!!
...even if I am no sure that RecBin issue is solved...
with the recycle bin, i have lost mine a couple of times, reinstalling the app brings it back to correct functionality.
i guess recycle bin problems are caused by installing resco explorer on sd-card. some applications loose their connection to files on sd-card when wm5 goes into sleep mode. have no idea wether this is a wm5 bug or an application bug. so far i am going to install resco explorer into main memory as long as this issue is not fixed. i had that loosing recycle bin problems several times and it always happens when you do not need it
regards
peter
i'm the same, i install only mission critical applicaitons to main memory, and this is the first application installed at all times, no matter what.
I always install all apps to main memory, wtf is the point in having it if you just try to make the freespace as large as possible all the time???
So far I have installed,
SBSH Pocket Breeze
SBSH Contact Breeze
SBSH iLauncher
SBSH Pocket Weather
SOTI Pocket Controller
TomTom 5.21
Wizbar Advance 2
eWallet
Opera
Resco Explorer
TCPMP
All the latest versions, all into main memory and it flies with most apps coated in nice VGA Skins I have 15mb free Storage Memory.
The only thing i use my SD for is data, and maybe the odd large game like AirIslands, which consumes 23mb.
Some data files i do keep on the phone, like the wallet file for eWallet.
All this based on the new rom and it's still faster than the previous rom.
Carn Out
Ah, ok. I'm another one who always installs Explorer as my first program, and I install it into main memory too, so I've never seen the recycle bin disappear. Hopefully now that you've installed it to Main Memory too, those problems are a thing of the past!
And in answer to Carnivor, I install all of my apps (except those with today plugins) to the Storage card for a couple of reasons.....
In most cases, after a hard reset, all you need to do to get your programs running again is create shortcuts to your .exe files (if they were stored on the SD card) rather than re-installing everything from cab files. That makes a hard reset a bit more bearable.
Also, and more importantly, my "pim.vol" and "cemail.vol" files are getting absolutely enormous and I need the space. There's probably a way of moving these files to the SD card, but I haven't bothered looking yet (although I may have to if their sizes keep spiralling upwards)
hey carnivor
next sunday you have to spend a lot of money..... :lol: :lol: :lol:
just one question
So far I have installed,

SBSH Pocket Weather

Don't you have installed too many program in your universal ?
i know that wisbar slow down the universal a lot
also sbsh product are not "light"
i think is too much for universal hardware...or not ??
I'm currently using a slightly battered Jam as a second phone, and it's quite depressing to see how that phone is so much quicker than the JasJar, even after the latest ROM upgrades. Still. I have a similar list of software installed to Carnivor, and it's not too bad. It's perfectly usable, just a bit annoying when you're in a hurry...
Not really an issue, i only have 1 today plugin, pocket breeze, all the rest of the sbsh stuff is accessed within that, using custom today plugin options, (the weather and ilauncher).
the latest wisbar is vastly improved on speed, but i did turn alot of the options off, they waste ram and i just wouldnt use them, like its own start menu, i dont like it, i just use the windows one, so its turned off,
you can tweak pocket breeze like that aswell, ie turn of the unread mail counters and turn off the expand/collapse etc
Whats happening next sunday????
It's just a joke

I've developed a nifty little tray application that lets you enable/disable and move up/down items on your today page. This saves a lot of time when you're playing around with today screen plug ins, compared to going through the settings pane.
You can get the first beta here: http://oxymoron.se/traytodayitems_beta1.cab

Hi.
This is very good and saves lots of time. I had to put a short cut in the startup folder myself. Apart from that its perfect on my PDA2K.
Thanks,
Ian Watson
@skip: Looks like your TodayPrograms plugin is about what I am looking for, except: From what what i read is that you put all shortcuts in the 'Programs' folder on the plugin. I would like to have only the shortcuts in a specific (best but not neccesary would be a configurable...) folder shown . . .
Could you introduce that into your plugin?
Great that someone is trying it out!
Like I said it is still a beta version, although I am not aware of any bugs per se. I'll definitely make so that it automatically installs in the startup folder. Also, a program icon would not be too shabby.
Skip
Edsub, your suggestion is not a bad one at all. I first had an idea to make a toggle for every program whether it would show on the today screen or not.
Now I'm thinking that your idea might be even better, let the user choose a folder from which to get the shortcuts. This would allow for an even more flexible choice of programs. However, this would definitely make it harder to customize for people who would rather not deal with the file system and shortcuts.
I'll look into it.
One question: Is a .EXE installer desirable? I'll definitely make the my programs available as .CABs, but would anyone prefer a .EXE installer for Windows and Active Sync?
Skip
IMO a CAB is better. Just copy to the device & tap . . .
With .exe you allways get the question if its a PC or PPC exe . . . .
Hi.
Is it possible for you to add OPTIONS in the menu to allow you to get to the options screen for that item.
Thanks,
Ian

You should always take care about putting anything in the startup directory, since this modifies the device's behaviour at startup. If there is a problem which requires a reset, the user might not like you messing with startup - I don't.

Disagree again I'm afraid, what about people who don't want to install to the default location but want to put the s/w on a Storage card? Unless you have CABinstaller you can't easily. Always provide both options if you want to keep the users happy.
That's a good idea. I should be able to call up the options screen somehow. I'll see when I find time to work on it.

Hi LeSkip, good start, really like to today tray items program.
With respect to the Today Program yes an EXE installer would be great. I like your original idea to be able to choose which programs to display.
Also if I choose say 15 programs to display it overlaps the programs instead of say placing on a second line or like iLauncher having an Icon to get to the second set. Also making the icon Size configurable would be great.
I have the Icons on my screen, but tapping one does not start the program. Also I have choosen 8 icons to display, the eight Icon is cutoff (it is cutoff about 1/2 cm before the right side of the screen).
Today Programs is definitely far from finished, I just wanted to see there was a user base for this kind of application.
An option to use 16x16 icons instead of the large 32x32 is high on my to-do list. Letting the user show more than the number of programs that actually fits on the screen isn't much use, so I'll just limit the number to whatever width the screen has.
I am working on tapping as a way of launching.
Small arrows that show when there are more programs to scroll to will be added soon.
The right side cut off has to do with the program being launched when a scroll bar was visible. I'll try to solve this problem.

Hi.
I have only installed the Tray Today software. Is the other software with the icons for creating software shortcuts? I use tdLaunch: http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=176
The Tray Today software is really good - even better with an "options" in the menu . But there seems to be quite a few other icon shortcut software for the Today Screen. Is yours going to be any different to others? Like I said, I have not installed yours yet.
Regards,
Ian Watson
The sole purpose of "Today programs" (horrible development name) is easy access to the Programs folder with the D-pad. I was getting annoyed with having to click Start>Programs to access them. I haven't tried any similar products, but there's probably several of them.
Skip
Possible new name: Today Switcher... because the natural progression of this tool has got to be to permit people to store multiple Today configurations and switch between them via the tray tool.
It's something I would love to develop - I believe there's one buggy one out there - but I just don't have the hours in the day! So go for it, the world is waiting for it!

I originally didn't intend to go that far with it, but the idea is starting to appeal to me. I'll try to have an updated version ready by next week, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to complete by then.

hello, i found this (or same name) application VERY useful someday, only problem is, that links aren't working now, anyone have link?
After a soft reset, only the auto start stuff active (like MagicButton), I have 15.88MB Program in use.
This seems like a lot to me, especially when the WM2003 Emulator with lots of apps only has 11.5MB in use.
1. Is this typical of the Magician? How much Program memory is yours using after a soft reset?
2. Can anyone advise how I find out what this memory is doing
Comments advises appreciated, thanks, Dave
9.68 in use
For monitoring your system, use Memmaid program! It is very handy and have many functions like memory cleaning, startup managing, memory settings, apps manager etc.
and another thing you must know: if you don't let the extended rom to install, you will have about 30 mb program memory and 10 mb storage!!! (adjusting with slider)
My program memory is about 19MB in use after soft reset
Around 14MB with startup of sbp pocket plus, airscanner firewall, vgs mail, f-secure mobile anti-virus, ae button plus & vjokbutt.
Cheers, M
I've been running most of the day and I've got around 18.55mb. Could probably squeeze a bit more out of that, but I generally keep my installation quite clean.
I'm running AEButtonPlus, MultiIe, FileDlgChanger, Program Menu, SmallMenu, VJToggleToday, VJAccioPhone and VJOkButt.
TodayPlugins: PhoneAlarm, VJAudioNotes, Alarm Today, Notes Today, SPB Weather, VJQOTD, VJTodaySpacer and Claunch.
If I'm feeling particularly thrifty and use VJOkButt in Phone Close mode, I can get 21.57mb. But that's just for special occassions, I almost never have memory problems, and I almost never have memory problems. :roll:
I've been doing some work on the Universal of late, and think there's methods of getting quite a bit more performance out of WM2003 and Wm5. Will investigate and post findings as they come.
Oltp: Re - VJOkButt. How are you finding it? Any problems? Pm or post in the other thread if you find any. I haven't done any programming for a day (!) so I still have to make the latest round of updates.

I've been compelled to start playing with Voice Command for some developments/hacks I'm doing for the Universal, and I realised how much I missed the sexy voice (!). But it's quite a big install.
PS Apologies for the slow ToggleToday update. I got distracted by a very cool hack I'm working on, kind of related, but which might come some time after the "basic" ToggleToday. You've never seen anything like it :wink:

Has anyone realised that the HTC Universal is not as fast you expected? I've tweaked the registry and done all the optimisations, but my HTC Universal can get sluggish sometimes.
I bought a Dopod 900, and I am using the latest Dopod 900 ROM. Made some Extended ROM modifications, which only involved removing the extra telcos settings from my phone.
Let's see what I have installed in my ROM:
Pocket Breeze + Contact Breeze
Resco Explorer (w/ FTP Client and Registry Editor)
Total Commander
Pocket Informant
Pocket Music
Pocket Hack
Pocket Mechanic
ClearVue Office Suite
Photo Contacts
Now for my other programs in the SD card:
TCPMP Player
SPB Benchmark
My Registry Tweaks:
Upped the Glych Cache to 32MB (limit = 32768)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
Speeded up the Start Menu Animation (AniType = 1)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\Menu\
Increased Font Cache to 16MB (CS = 16384)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Systems\GDI\SYSFNT
Increased Storage Cache to 16MB (CacheSize = 16384)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Systems\StorageManager
After soft reset, my free ROM is 19MB and free RAM is usually 20-25MB. I only have the Pocket/Contact Breeze Today plug-in on my Today screen.
However, after all the tweaks my Dopod 900 is still not as fast as I expect it to be. Just to quantify "fast" I mean no lag or little lag (less than 2 sec) when open programs and stuff.
I ran SPB benchmark on my clean hard-resetted Dopod 900 and the CPU Index was around 1000+ while the Graphics Index was only 200+
I did a search and found a SPB benchmark for a Dopod 900 from some Chinese review. The CPU index was around 1300+ and Graphics Index was around 200+
My CPU index seems to be 20% slower than the reviewer's result. Is something wrong with my set?
And is there something wrong with Dopod 900 Graphic Drivers? A score of 200+ on Graphics Index is pathetic especially when you consider that the Eten M600 and even the Dopod 838 (HTC Wizard) can achieve 2800+ on Graphics Index.
If anyone has SPB benchmarks results to share of their own HTC universal, please share with us.
I am no expert. I am a newbie to Pocket PCs, but one thing I've learned, as long as you minimize installing applications in the main memory, you can speed up your universal.
You can install Total Commander to your SD Card too. I have that in my SD Card and it works just fine.

I thought it was the other way round. WM5 PPC access ROM faster than SD Card right? So my installing my core apps into ROM, it should run faster.
RE
I think you should sell your Dopod 900 because you'll be vey disappointed for the simple reason that your expectation of less than 2sec opening for each and every application will never be realized
the most of registru hacks you applied speed up the display but decrise program memory. my expirience says: more program memory - faster device. I get rid of EVERYTHING I don't relly need and my wizard starts with ~27mb of program memory and I love it!
mine is fast, starts up with 30meg.
i think you have amped up your registry tweaks to total overkill. wind em back to the recommendations.
i also believe your pocket breeze and contact breeze are slowing it down, what happens when you remove from today and soft reset.
i can only assume you have done the really obvious, like removed the antivirus software, disabled error reporting, and disabled auto beams.
what is in your startup?
do you have applications on the today screen access the SD card? do you have sd card memory readers on the today screen? are you running any close features such as magic button etc
is activesync auto running in the background?
i have SPB PP, SPB Diary, SPB Backup, SPB GPRS, SPB Weather, all running on startup as today plug ins and my device is acceptable (generally sub 2 - 3 seconds application launch and screen rotation), but if I switch them all off, everything is instantaneous. I also have MSVC running on startup with the SPB stuff. On boot up, RAM is 25mb instead of 30mb.
also, do you have a large PIM file from synchronising contacts and calendar? mine was 5mb and slow. by controlling what I was syncing, namely calendars, and only 100 contacts, it is down to 1mb, this had a big impact.
Also, there is a big trick, if you dont use video calls, disable it. its on these forums, or can be done via hard reset and not install the cab. there is a registry to disable it. this will consume 30 meg.
Yes, this is all discussed elsewhere. Ensure you haven't installed the extended cab as far as possible, and indicate if you're using the extended rom dialler skin, which is a considerable drain.
Is the bench marking app reliable? I know Buzz was working on some lightweight roms and it'll be interesting for us to benchmark our different flavours.
V
The simplest way to make your device speed up by almost 40% is to prevent the Ext.Rom from installing. All you need to do is first hard-reset your device and when during the process of windows setup, when you come to the operator customisation screen, just soft-reset. This will prevent your device from installing any of the carrier customisation files on the Ext.Rom.
Try it, you won't regret it one bit.

Can you please post a screen shot of what our phone skin should look like? I know I used corporate mode on O2's ROM, does this ensure that I did not let any of the Ext ROM to install?
I also found the thread that discusses about the phone skin. Here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40342
Are you referring to this registry tweak to correct the phone skin?
To set or remove the operator phone skin
The setting is at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin'
The 'Enabled' DWORD value can be set to '1' to show the operator skin or '0' to show the default skin
For example, to show the default skin
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 0
I don't have my phone and facilities infront of me to take screenshots, so am posting some rubbish from my site. But basically, WITH the extended rom specific skin, your VGA phone looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

}
Without the ext rom skin (this is the pin entry screen, but it's similar but less screwed up):
The without skin is much much faster.
I've had an idea about how to re-skin the phone hopefully in a light weight manner, but haven't had a second to play with the idea. When I get some time, hopefully next week, I'll play with a proof of concept.
V
But Vijay, doesn't that mean that you lose the ability to make video calls?
wouldn't know, no one ever wants to see my face!
Generally I think it does, but I think the more complete thread posted above contains some details about how to re-enable it. There's also posts somewhere on how to re-enable the terrible intellidialer.
V
Thanks very much Vijay. I'll try it too. Since I'm in the US, we don't have video calls yet, I think.
This is a great free today plugin 'TodayAgenda 0.9.9' by Marcel Tiews - its better than calendar + and very configurable and also shows all your tasks due etc.... It has a small footprint and works in qvga and vga resolutions.
Copy cab to device via activesync, click on file through file explorer, install to device - will load better as its a today plugin.

Is there a web page for it? I may wanted to try it out. PocketBreeze is a bit slow on my already slowed Charmer. However, I tried a lot of other plugins and PBzz is currently the best on for the price of $10.
One of the thing I like about PBzz is the integration of the Tasks and Appointments on the same screen, and birthdays too. Further, I found the others annoying is the fact that they named tomorrow just like any other date, which may undermined the importance of that particular task tomorrow. Hence, everytime I was looking at my Today screen, I have to particularly check todays date to ensure that if the next task/app on the screen is tomorrow or not.
Do a check
can any body from the ones installed this app tells me if it enables me to set the saturday as the first day of the week or no.
Handy little app meschle! Thanks for posting it.
And, gwassef, no.

Thank you. That didn't work either :-( Our firewall or something does not like this file. I tried from the author's website too.
IWSS Security Event (inetvscan1)
InterScan Web Security detected the following in HTTP traffic:
Item: http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=12905
Action: deleted
Reason: Violation of a compressed file restriction
-- File: download.php?id=12905, security warning: Corrupted_Zip_file
The uncleanable file is deleted.

Thats something your end - firewall or antiviral causing that. It downloads fine for me - try downloading on your wizard through internet explorer.
Ok. I've tested it. My comments as mentioned above,
It doesn't show tomorrow as 'Tomorrow' and, it doesn't even show today as 'Today'. Maybe someone would talk to the author and ask him to make those changes, which is, in my opinion a very good improvement.
But other than that, it is a very good today plugin.
@ meschle
Very nice find! at last I may of found a replacement for pocketbreeze Will have a play for the next few days and see......

Copy the cab file over to the device via activesync - place in \my documents on your phone - click on the cab file through file explorer on the device. Install to device not storage card. Do not unzip the file - cab file is a self installing archive.
right all done - is there anyway of tweaking it though so you can alter how many days it shows?

Click and hold on the panel in the today screen - and an option dialog will come up - you can change that through this.
My phone company, 3, have just released these finally in Oz and am heading out to get one tomorrow.
Now is the best time to ask everyone what are their favourite programs they have installed on the Trinity? Saves me searching around forever....
I need one that closes all programs totally (so they dont continue to run in the background), switches what hard buttons do (unless you can do that automatically), plus whatever else people think i need......
I thought this would be a good thread for all newbies and others who want to know what are the best ways to pimp up their Trinity.
thanks
Scott
You can stop all running programs from Start button->Settings->System->Memory.
Also the new ROM i got has an option somewhere with the ability to change the behaviour on the closebutton.. It says HTC menu util or something similar.
Get magicbutton (for the task closing), its free and works fine....

It's under START->Settings->System->Task Manager.
It has 2 options;
1) End programs by tapping X
2) End programs by taping and holding X
MagicButton sucks pretty hard, the last version has some issues with the telephone application (it doesnt close it).
The most kick ass application you'll ever get for your trin is this one:
Spb Mobile Shell: This a pretty good application that enhance your today screen with tabbed menus and give you alot of nice features like enhanced menus, task manager and alot of other cool features.

Another kick ass application that it's a must is this one:
SKTools v3.1.3: I think it's self explanatory.

My 2 cents
Thank you for the attention.

thanks for that. what are the programs down the bottom where you can have all the shortcuts on the today page? The one with the tabs for Big,Apps, Car,etc plus the little icons below that....... same program?
That is my only shortfall of this beautiful phone- the lack of shortcuts i can program.
Matterhorn, it looks like you would benefit in battery time and also speed, by using the option to properly close your apps rather than minimise them when pressing the X button. I am judging this by all the apps that appear to be open in the bottom of your today screen.

The apps at the bottom of the screen are all just shortcuts, they aren't running. The program iLauncher allows you to make shortcuts at the bottom of the today screen. These are the apps that I use very often and don't want look for them. The other groups of shortcuts "Big", "Apps" etc. are also part of iLauncher and I make the icons big so I can use my fingers to launch the apps. I have iLauncher programmed to close some apps with the X while other programs are not allowed to be closed with the X, such as Messaging, Mortplayer, IE etc. I use the "close all" option when I really want a clean system. Believe me, I don't let apps run unless I need them running .
how do you make it so the ilauncher bar is all the way down the bottom of the screen? mine sits about halfway up....
Montalbert,
Go to start>settings>today>items select program shown and select move up or down!
Regards,
BIQ

It is a bit tricky because when you have items in your calendar plug-in it moves the whole today screen up and down. That is why I use TodayAgenda instead, it is an app that allows you to set the length of your Task and Calendar list. This way you only scroll within TodayAgenda and not the whole screen. This makes it possible to make the iLauncher stay at the bottom. You just have to set iLauncher to manual height and experiment until you get the proper height for your today screen.
I hope that helps
