Hi All,
I got a T-mobile MDA Pro off Ebay, it was supposed to be Mint but a week after I got it noticed that is had a couple of scuffs around the power socket.
I noticed on other threads that HTC europe can do Full Cosmetic Refurbishment for about £65??
Has anyone used HTC Europe for a Full Cosmetic Refurbishment?
Cheers
John
seems like a bit of waste of money to me

Hi I haven't used them for a refurb but I took my blueangel up there for a repair and when I got there I managed to drop my universal in the car park on the way in. the guy in there seemed really nice, I asked him about a new case for the universal ad he said it was about 60 odd quid so I assume they just replace all the cases for that price, he said it was a complete housing. I didn't bother getting it done though. blueangel came back working though, had to chase them a bit though but I wasn't really in a hurry for it though because I don't use it any more but bear it in mind that it could take a while, mine was there for about a week and a half. think they forgot. interesting place though from reception you can look round the corner and see them all working on the phones.

Not true. o2's XDA helpline will arrange repairs / cosmetic refurbs. SBE are only *i-mate* authorised service agents, no other Universal brands, and may not be able to get exec parts.

They previously re-furbed my wallaby. But then I did work for them ( in the Arlington Centre in Leeds) at the time 8) .
What part(s) do you need? Are you happy fitting it yourself? I have everything but the base and hinge brackets.

Hi,
I had my Orange M5000 fully refurbished just last week. Took a week to come back but the quality and service was excellent, only cost me £30.
Came back with protective lables on it etc, that were easily pulled off. Looks like brand new again.
(Tho in true form for my universals, the hinge is already clicking as bit)

Hi!
I've got crack on my screen- and you wan't belive me, but nothing has happen! I haven't drop this PDA, nothing elese in the pocket, I haven't seat on that pocket etc.. Just opened AND..
Anyway, I've to fix this ASAP
What are my options? Propably it is not covered by warranty so it is pointless (imho) to speak to them.
Who can fix this? How much do I've to pay?
Or, what's the cheapest option now to buy new EXEC?
Any ideas? Or... maybe I can buy just screen and someone can repalce this?
Thanks for your help!
Cheers,
Chris
Easy enought to swop yourself - screens are approx £130, but give the o2 helpline a call for a fitted quote to see what they offer as this will maintain warranty on the device.
Is it the LCD or digitiser itself that has broken? (Ink splodge or crack? )
Richard
Thanks for your quick reply!
Unfortunatly LCD (touch screen is still working).
Yes, I'll give them a call today.
£130 is NOT THAT MUCH to be honest.

That's the screen cost from Taipei after shipping and tax - o2's price is likely to be higher.
Richard
Thanks!
Yes, I know O2 will be around £185...
Why it is so expensive ? 30% just for the screen...
Is there any chance to fix this under warranity?

Chris

They are charging you to *fit* it as well. No chance under warranty methinks but maybe if you bought the insurance now and claimed in 6 - 8 weeks? ;-)

Screen Broken
My Exec screen also cracked (round the back) It was in my pocket and certainly hadn't been dropped and the case was unmarked and the front of the screen was unmarked So I cant see that it had been knocked or crushed. They replaced it free of charge as a 'gesture of goodwill' - Having said that I have the o2 gold insurance so I wasnt going to pay anyway.
Sadly it took them over a month to get me a replacement, despite numerous calls and emails, so at the end of the contract I wont be going back to O2.
I wonder if this screen thing is in fact a manufacturing problem rather than user error. It might be worth saying that 'you've heard that other users have experienced cracked screens...'

A manufacturing fault and just being vulnerable to damage are not the same thing, sadly. They don't usually break unless you leave them in the cold / in your back pocket as you sit down / face open in your pocket with your keys etc etc. If the digitiser stops working on loads of units with no intervention - that's a manufacturing fault, but lots of people breaking the LCD's? might be easily done - but ultimatley their own fault either by carelessness or accident. My advice - buy a case!
Richard
( who puts all his pda's in his back pocket and sits down on them with his fat ass with no issues so far )
My exec was in O2 for a repair for bloody 8 weeks !!! (it arrived today...).
I had pleased them, mail and phone-bomb them, threatened them to death and court, but they still have pissed on me from the high...
So, my conclusion > NO FING WAY that I`ll give my Exec to O2 again....
Not speaking about that 185 pounds they wanted BEFORE they repaired it (like second week they had it)...
8 weeks?
Paying 185 quid for repair and wait 8 weeks???
Wow, thanks for that post...
Anyway, thank you for all your replys- I've got one more question.. can some1 give an email address to Service dept please? I've tried yesterday to call them but line was busy (
Thank you for your support!
Cheers!
Chris
I've also had this problem - the screen crack looks to me as though it's at the point which gets stressed the most when the screen is flipped around during opening. The warranty expressly excludes cracked LCDs. Which has to give you a clue...
My advice - if you ever buy one do it on a credit card with insurance which covers it. Mine is paying for the repair.
Hi Alec,
I've got this EXEC as a upgrade so they just charged my account (direct debit). Also, I've got just HSBC CC and there is no inssurance.
The other thing is- sales agent FORGOT to add this £5 insurance to my account!!! Also, he should change my tarif- which wasn't done
So I'm very upset with o2 sales agents
My next contract will be propably with T-MOBILE (I'm half German so... )
Cheers!

Richard,
I remeber agent's name - Nick. His extension number was 21SOMETHING AFIK Do they record every call? For haw long do they keep them?
Anyway, is too late...
Soo, i'm ready to pay this £185- but I'd like to mek sure that this screen fill be fixed withn let say 1-2 weeks MAX!
Thanks anyway...
Chris
Dunno how long they keep the records, but if he did the upgrade his name and the time will be on the notes for your account as he'll want the commision - at least ask operator X who did the upgrade and what extension (nicely) than ask operator Y to speak to 'Nicks' supervisor as he didn't add the insurance you asked for - it may even be detailed in the notes anyway as I would think they get commision for that as well.
Richard
DAMN,..I GOT THE SAME PROBLEM!!
I always carried my device very carefull. Yesterday I opened the device and the screen was cracked. nothing on the outside, only the screen had a crack and is useless now. I had to send it to T-Mobile since my garentee is one year (sorry for the bad english)
Very strange,.. is seems like the screen can crack without bumping it to something.
Arjan
Arjan,
I'm so sorry to hear this... And as far I know they wan't fix this under warranity Anyway, TRY!
Also, can you please ask them how much they are going to charge you and let me know?
Many thanks and goodl luck with this one!
Cheers!
Well,.
I phoned up T-mobile NL. and they said I might be under warrenty, since the device is less than one year old. The sent me an enveloppe for the device to sent back. So I did yesterday, including the ticket I got when I bought the device.
I would take 10 days (they said) to fix it and sent back. If it woudn't fall under warrenty the device would be sent back fixed with a bill...
I really hope it will be fixed without having to pay. I was really carefull with it...
Arjan
Hmm, I'm not that careful- I've got some scratches...
Anyway, it was VERY expensive weekend (I had to cancel my trip Germany- Lufthansa, only taxes refunded, canceled car hire reservation, broken screen in my PDA, ALMOST crashed my mondeo, some other unplaned expenses) so 200 more is not a big deal
M8, hopefuly they will fix your PDA for free
let me know please!
Cheers!

I understand guys..what u all are going thru..my screen has broken not once but twice..n like some of u guys mentioned i had never put any stress on my device...still it broke..for the first change, i had to pay( i fought with imate management but they didnt do anything..i have a post about our conversations) but second time, i just sent them a single email and they changed my screen for free.
Too b honest, i feel imate jasjar have some design issues...just like a blot appearing on keypads(extreme top left n right side) because the cushion padding is not effective.
What ill suggest, we should get together and email these people..however iknow that wont have much effect but still..it might have some effect..
Hello everyone,
I had the famous "Screen freezing/not responding and start menu clicking" problem.
I called by phone to the support in the UK and was told that I need to ship it for repair.
I was a bit afraid to do so in the beginning but after getting my mobile back home (After less then a week!!!), I must let you all know that their support is GREAT!
Not only that they replace the MB but also replaced the bezel that was a bit peeled.
The email response and the phone response was perfect - There is a guy named Abdul Ibrahim that was VERY helpful.
Bottom line, the phone was back and fixed perfectly in less then a week.
Cheers and well done!
Eldi
Would that be a completely new phone, refurbished?
Have you IMEI changed?
Where do you live? UK?
And most importantly:
did you need to produce any proof of purchase? I've got none thanks to crappy Ebay seller...
I had a very good experience with them. I had opened my phone (so warranty normally void) upgraded ROM but they still fixed it and shipped back with 2 day shipping from UK to US.
I personally give them an A+
They changed the Main board and the Bezel.
The phone is the same only with a new IMEI.

No need for a proof of purchase as the warrenty covers 1 year.
The P3600 is not out for more then a year so you are automatically covered!

How could they change the motherboard and keep the same IMEI?
I would have thought that once he said the phone had its MB replaced you had in fact already been told that the IMEI was different.
Am I wrong?
A phone with a different MB _IS_ a refurbished phone, isn't it?
Sorry about that, you are right.
I have an X1i from O2 in the UK.
It has a few problems. First of all is the crack near the stylus, another is a crack next to the camera lens area, but the most annoying the 3.5mm jack being very very dodgy. It is difficult to get the right channel to work, that is using various sets of earphones including the SE supplied ones.
How do I go about getting a replacement? Is it O2 I need to speak to or is it SE?
You can go back to the store where you bought your X1.
If you ordered it through the internet, go to the site where you bought it.
Looks like I'll backup my stuff tonight and have a trip to the O2 shop!
Exchange??

Hi,
it would be nice if this would be so easy.
I have 3 cracks in the case by now and fighting about more than 7 weeks with Sonystyle and SE here in USA, guess what. NO replacement, they ignoring the emails, transfere me from one person to another and so on.
On top, i would have to pay for the repair.
So if you have other information or "written examples" for exchange, please share.
greetings
I went into the O2 store I got the phone from and they are willing to take it in for repair. There was no mention of cost and they said it'd most likely be replaced.
Also, is it best I flash my X1 with a stock firmware just in case they get arsey about custom firmwares?

Yes, because only if you have an original firmware will you receive any form of service.
An original firmware includes the updates as given in the thread by Pavel X1
Do you have to revert the spl back to normal? Will they check?

Flash back to the stock O2 R10A ROM and flash the SPL back to the stock one while you're at it. It is the sort of thing that they do notice and bill you later on.
I'm also sending my X1i back to O2 for the crack by the battery compartment. I've had the phone less than 2 months. They're bringing my refurb handset tomorrow and taking my original one away. In fact my posting about it is here...

X807, since you're in the UK, the magic words are "Sale of Goods Act, as amended" and "not fit for purpose". If O2 try to fob you off to SE, remind them that under the Sale of Goods Regulations you have the contract of sale with the retailer, not the manufacturer. It is up to the *retailer* to arrange repair or replacement.

Come to think of it... that question has always been at the back of my mind. What if your X1 was unable to power on? Had sent my X1 for servicing cos of that before. If that's the case you wouldn't be able to flash back to the original firmware. Guess that's one of the reasons for me holding back from using a custom firmware till now.

Right, all sorted ROMwise, I went into the O2 shop where I bought it to sort it out and I was nicely informed (or maybe fobbed off) that another employee in the shop who will be in tomorrow and supposedly has an X1 and had the same problem. But what he did was find online a list of models which was in a bad batch, printed it off and took it to O2 and got an instant replacement in the shop. I've now come home with my X1 and I'm looking for said list. Bare in mind I'm dubious of anything official here.
Since I've been around these parts for long enough (Previous Orange SPV Original owner) I knew that surely here would be the first place to look. Only "list" I can find is on the first page of the cracks thread, and yes mine is one of them, 08W46.
Maybe this is the list, who knows, but I will print the page off and take it to them, and hopefully speak to this guy.
It seems the link in question was
http://xperia-x1.com/xperia-x1-starting-to-show-some-cracks/
So it's not official and the person who originally told me of an instant replacement it talking a load of bollocks.
I am now sending it directly back to SE. Hopefully I'll get a replacement but obviously I'm not overly confident.
u'll most likely get a new one.. i had an issue with my phone where the volume key wasn't working and sent the phone to SE and i got a new one in like 4days..
Claimed on the insurance with Vodafone and clearly this is not a new phone - there is a crack in the usual place where the stylus goes in - its pretty bad - what should i do?
or should i not have expected a new one when claiming on the insurance but no way is this phone new
Take the cracked one back and claim a new one under warranty. It is a known issue so should not be a problem.

Jeez man...you must really be unlucky...
The cracks are normally covered by the warranty. I just sent mine in for a case crack (Banbury Service Center, UK)
And just so you know...you're not the only one that got a "brand new" X1 that wasn't ummm... brand new Same thing happened in France for me but I couldn't prove that it was used. It was just that my slider felt loose when compared to other X1s. Anyway, now that they have it I hope they'll fix this as well, as I have also mentioned this in the repair claim form.
I would claim the changed X1 as well.
When I received my "new" X1, 'cause the first one got a crack 3 weeks after receiving it, I wanted to to a HardSPL ans just saw, that the delivered X1 was already HardSPL'ed with OliNex 0.52.
I'm beginning to see sense in the pricing strategy - charge us 2x$$$ because on average they expect to have to replace the darn thing.
Pity it costs some time/effort between replacements.
i think this is about my THIRD X1 now so i dunno who is losing out - this phone has had a lot of problems but i rang Vodafone again and they said they will be collecting it on friday and giving me a replacement. Sure hope its a brand new one.
was supprised they didnt send me to the shop or anything!

Hi
Last night I open my YB to do some browsing. The keyboard was not working. I was like what on earth, then restarted etc and that did not solve it. Then I realized that there is a long thin crack line at the top of the keyboard area. And I did not do that, I did not dropped it either. WHat on eart?
Check this forum, my crack is similar to these people's.

I sent it in via Cyberport (the seller) and Medion repaired it... No wonder the keyboard is already coming unglued. Cost 50€, if I've a problem again I'd do the repair myself, a replacement keyboard costs around 20€.
What is your take regarding why the cracks are happening? I saw couple other people reported it as well else where

No idea, too tight tolerances or something like that, would make sense since the keyboard always seems to crack from top to bottom.
Where can I order the replacement keyboard from?
