Military mp3... - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi guys,
I'd like to use some of the milytary sound as alarm and/or sound notifications...
Where can I download some mp3 or other formats?

I don't know where to find them. Why don't you just convert them?

Because I don't have any format to convert....

Ringtones

Just got my xda2 a few days ago and found how cool you can make the ringtones. With the old nokia stile phones you could go to the web site selling tones and just rip the midi files directly in to data suite and transfer them. well sites started to make the preview as an mp3 making it very hard to convert them back to midi. well how cool is it that i can now go and get polyphonic tones of the pay sites and just convert them in to wave files and set them as ringtones. Or if you not like poly tones just cut down an mp3 file with 'real soundin' music and convert that. ohh i like it
Have you already tried to record something like "Mom is calling! $your_favourite_ring" and use it with personalized ringtones? Or "Incoming short message detected!" - sounding like StarTrek?
Hi,
Yip its very very cool!!!!
And you can also try wma files
Or go to my page and get some there for free
Cheersssss!!!!

ring tone file format?

hi
i have just put some MIDI files on my xda mini, which play just fine with some of that integrated windows software.
unfortunately i cannot use them as ringtones. (i have put them in /windows/rings, where i found that o2 custom ringtone)
i think its simply the file format thats ignored by my magician.
what file formats are readable for the magician (wm 2003 in general?) for ringtone usage?
tia
wav, wma & mp3 shouldn't give you any probs. when you put them in the rings folder. Use mp3 patch to be able to select mp3 files as ringtone with file explorer.
regards, M
I'm using *.mp4 for ringtone.
What do you use to play them? Caller id?
Nice tag too.
M
I have converted from *.mp3 to *.mp4 using nero 6.1.Then I download TCPMP player and many plugins. After that I found that I can use the *.mp4 for a ringtone. That is!
Thank you for the tag...
Ok,
I got Nero & TCPMP, so going to try it out. I use oldphone for ring, but very curious whether this works.
M
yes its very bad.My ringtone now is Elize - Automatic.
Do yo know about the *.mp4 format? When not I tell you!
I use it for film, not for music. 'till now
it plays very very good the songs.About the *.mp4 format. It is smaller then the *.mp3.Normal the mp3 is about 4-5Mb and the mp4 is 1-2.With the same bitrate like mp3.That is.

Notifications - MP3 Instead of WAV

Is there anywhere to amend the wizard's registry to allow it to use MP3's for the notification sounds. Wav files are massive files and take up alot of room which i dont currently have.
eversince I've been using PPCs it has always been wav for notifications. i sometimes see apps that use mp3s for alarms but these are for the alarm only [other notifications are not included]. you may want to re-encode your wavs into a smaller bitrate. iirc you can use sound recorder [on any windows pc] and save the wav as PCM 16bit. you can also chop up the wav files using sound recorder.

I've still not found a way. I would not think it possible via reg hack, mainly due to MS's own ADPCM / IMA compression on the wavs not working. Plain old PCW uncompressed only, anyway check out that thread and let us know if you make any progress.

I be so greatful, email me @ m3nf(at)m3nf.com
Your wizard should be able to play midi. You probably need to convert only those messages tone.
Update: Attached 2 message tones in mp3. Using standard sound card midi-wav.
Yes they work fine as ringtones, but i like to use them as message tones, but unable to convert them into wav for them.
I'll convert the files for you with professional instrument sound libraries (think a 2GB piano, for starters). Just give me a little time.
If I posted them as MP3s (to save space), would you be able to then convert them to WAVs?
Yes i have software for that so that would be really great, many thanks for your time
Done the first, AutumnSky...
The board won't let me post MP3s, so here
I'll be on vacation until Sunday, so I won't be able to get any more done until then.
Many thanks, i very greatful for your time.

what are you talking about ? Jamin can use mp3's as ringtones - you don't have to convert them to WAV !!!
wav it's the only supported format for WM5?
And what about wma files in windows directory?
I don't understand guys....
I've mp3 file and I'd like to use it as ring tone end/or alarm sound.... can you explain me where I have to put it to be inserted in the sound and notifications list?
You can easily use an MP3 as a ringtone... all you have to do is put it in the folder: Windows/Rings and then you can select it for any of your contacts... alternatively, just click and hold on the MP3 and one of the menu choices is 'Set as Ringtone' this sets your general ringtone as the selected MP3.
Just one little comment: If you are using MP3 for ring make sure they are small (not several MB like normal music) or you will get a delay before you here the ring (maybe several tones long). There are two excellent free apps I found that let you mold your MP3's to ring size:
MPTrim: http://www.mptrim.com/ it will let you cat the length of the file and increase volume if needed.
Second:
http://www.mp3-converter.com/mp3_to_all_converter.htm not only will this let you reduce the bit rate to make the files smaller it lets you re-encode files to and from many different formats.
Final note: You can also use files stored in your SD root (if you have one) but they are very slow to load, and you can use the sound from WMV files without separating it from the video.
Try to use Ringo Mobile from http://www.electricpocket.com/ringo-mobile/

No Way!!
Clock alarm and SMS rings accept just wav files.Just put your wav files in Windows default folder
Many thanks guys!
Hi guys!
I've still a problem....
I justy put my mp3 in windows/rings dir but if I go to sound and notifications I can't see my mp3 in the list of rig tones...
I tryed soft reset too but the problem is still present.
I installed some sw like Photo Contact and Phone profiler ecc....
Now I have installed WMA Phone Profile and Photo contact (not Pro versione!). Is it possible that those sw can change some config on my Jamin?
Again. MP3 can ONLY be used as RINGTONES. They CANNOT be used for notifications (SMS, MMS, Clock,...).
To use MP3 as ringtones, you only have to copy them to the \Windows\Rings directory.
Enjoy!
Should be added that to select them go to:
Start->Settings->Personal->Phone
Ring tones
Curiouser and curiouser. After upgrading with Jester's 2.2 and installing Pocket Music, I cannot play mp3's as ring tones any more, but I can play .wav files. I can see them both, and both appear to open, but the mp3's are silent..... (both mp3's and .wav files are installed in Windows\Rings directory in this case). Last week the .mp3 files would play but not the .wav files!
.wav files installed in the Windows directory continue to behave as normal, appearing and opening as Notifications.
Can you still play MP3's with the built in WMP?
I suspect Pocket Music overwrote the codec for MP3 or screwed up the registry linking MP3 to it.
No idea how to fix this (short of hard reset though).
Yes, WMP still works just fine. No other impacts seen so far. So I'm happy enough, but would like to understand what happened.....
