I hate that the OZ messenger constantly occupies the notification slot. It keeps you from using the soft key on the today screen for calendar. Also i have noticed that even if i get kicked offline the little man is still on my top bar telling me im online.
I have tried agile, but it disconnects everytime you make a call or loose connection for any amt of time.
i just wish we could use aim like on a sidekick2. when some1 im u a phone number u can click and dial the number from the aim screen
This is my biggest complaint with the MDA so far... The OZ messenger is VERY SLOW and does not have the ability to "keep connection alive" so the GPRS will timeout every so often and only come back on when you send an IM out, then ALL of the imcoming IMs will be sent to you. One plus is that the OZ messenger stays logged on while I make phones calls during the day. IM+ and agile both disconnect when i make or answer any call!! are they serious?!? That is so damn annoying. Does anyone here have an advice on how to keep the IM on while making a call like the OZ messenger??? so sort of setting somewhere?!? please help, I've been researching til the end of time and can't figure it out. I have been through 3 different ROMs so I know that can't have much to do with it since OZ stays online just fine... any other IM progs out there that will help me? thanks...
The reason it disconnects you from the gprs/edge network when you receive a call is because it uses the same chip to process calls and data. So if you accept a call in it will take the call and stop data until the call is finished.
The reason OZ IM does get disconnected is because it works on TXT msessaging...which is really bad and it will cost you everymessage you send so you better have a large amount of free message as its not like IM+ or Agile which send it through the internet instead of trhough the tmobile txt message service.
I use VeriChat for IM. Its so much supperior to Agile and IM+ in many ways.
THe have a 30 days trial on their website. Give it a shot.
Hope this helps
I've heard that OZ messenger works using SMS, but you guys make it seem like it uses GPRS to send/receive instant messages. So which is it?
i guess u guys dont like the way u can click a link in aim on a sidekick no1 has answered any of my ?'s about y cant any of the im software allow u 2 click a number or webpage and view or dial it

Thought I would start this thread to identify the best IM for WM5.0 or Wizard. We are looking for a universal IM that connects to MSN, ICQ, AOL and Yahoo.
I have Agile Messenger but it seems to disconnect all the time while in a call or just randomly. Not to reliable. My wife has the sidekick and the IM is flawless.
What do you use and recommend?
Agile Messenger
Pro:
Nice interface that allows you to see all contacts from different services
You can pull ICQ info so you can see who are ebhind those numbers
Separate tabs for each IM window
Alerts when an IM appears
Con:
Connection drops when on call
Connection drops randomly (should be a buffer for lost connections before it disconnects)
The application will randomly close
I use Agile
About the cons:
Connection drops when on call (It uses GPRS/EDGE, which is the same part of the phone that makes/takes calls. The only other way is to use text messages, and that is costly)
Connection drops randomly (should be a buffer for lost connections before it disconnects) (I've never had that happen to me)
The application will randomly close (I've never had that happen to me)
Does anybody use the AIM that comes setup on the MDA? If not, why not? I don't use anything other than AIM, and the one that came with the phone seems to work fine (although I've only had it for a day now).
From what I've heard, the OZ messenger app which comes installed on tmobile mda uses sms to chat. this means you pay for each sms message unless you have unlimitted sms plan. also, i've found it to be painfully slow.
I think agile is great, especially the WM5 alpha build. agile must disconnect during a call because GPRS/EDGE and voice cannot be used at the same time. I also had random disonnects before I updated to the qtek AKU2 rom. Now that i have updated, agile works flawlessly.
the oz communicator does not use sms. i dont know why people start these nasty rumors. the problem i have with oz is that it constantly occupies the notification slot telling you that you ar available. the led will always blink orange when it is on. and i actually caught it disconnected with the available icon still in the notification tray.
if they fixed the notification to only when you get a new message then i would probably use it.
my agile closes its self too.

OZ absolutely does use SMS. I have performed tests on this where the ONLY use that could have been made of the SMS was the OZ client, and the counter got hit for EVERY message.
That's not a "nasty rumor" - its a FACT.
I totally agree that OZ uses SMS. I don't have unlimited SMS, so I never use it. After testing OZ, I suddenly had 45 text messages on my bill. Coincidence? NO! Like I said, I never use SMS, so it certainly was OZ that was using SMS to transmit those IMs back and forth.

I agree, we don't use unlimited SMS either, OZ is definitely SMS-based.
The SMS charges even say "IM" or "AIM" (can't remember which now)

I have been using the T-Mobile USA messenger software. It works, but the incoming messages are very slow. Outgoing ones are fast but the incoming take about 5 mins or so. Where can I download the OZ software?
I went to dl agile and the site says WM5 version coming soon. what version are you guys using?
the WM5 version of agile is due in the next 1-2 weeks...
there's a link to an alpha version of the WM5 agile in another xda-dev thread...
What is the best mobile messenger out there that supports AIM?
The only two I know of is IM+ and Agile Messnger. I know Agile Messenger uses data plan but what about IM+? Data or SMS?
Are there any other ones that are out there that I dont know? Thanks.
i only know of those 2 and oz messenger that comes stock on tmobile mdas. i like Agile though cuz it doesnt use sms i think Im + is Data also
Hi does anyone know a messaging software to replace "inbox"? I feel that it has problems like not being able to resend messsages when there is not signal. I want it to be able to send the message automatically when it gets a signal. Another problem is when there is linebreaks in the message. the xda just ignores the linebreaks and just connects the next word
I realy need a good messenger like IM+...or something like Yahoo.Go(i know it's for symbian only)..but a messenger thet realy work...
By the way...i use only Yahoo Messenger.
Tnx in advance...
I have tried all of them. Most people seem to like Agile and I even thought I did at first. Problem is, with GPRS/EDGE it disconnects constantly. If you receive a phone call, your connection drops and you will still appear online for a little while after. So if someone sends you a message when in this state, you never receive it. I have an issue with dropped messages.
I found the most stable backend IM client to use is Verichat. It is both TCPIP and SMS based from what I have seen. You always appear online no matter what state your phone is in. If you receive a message when your phone is off or on a call, the message will be sent via SMS. If your device is on and you have the app open, you will receive the message via TCPIP. It also has BOTS that can be added to your bud list for handy things like movie times, driving directions, etc. It also supports all major IM services.
Free to try:

Is there any useful app which will able me to connect to my ICQ through my QTEK 9100 (except IM+ and Agile Messenger, which doesn't work so well) ?
Mirabilis's ICQ PPC Beta 1 version perhaps?
I've tried it, and it doesn't work.
It gives me an Error msg about the memory.
Something else?

Try Verichat and enable the feature to keep you online even when the device is off once you start it for the 1st time. If you have SMS text messaging, your IM's will come through SMS when your device is off. If you have Verichat running, it will come through TCPCIP internet connection. This has worked great for me so far although I am still evaluating it. Problem with the other apps is that if your phone is off or you lose GPRS/internet connectivity, your IM connection is lost and this happens often. Also, when you receive a voice call, you lose your GPRS connection resulting in your IM session getting dropped. I am only really using the AOL part now so can't say how the ICQ part works.
Suggestion: Download and try it for free as I am doing. Test using another ICQ# on a desktop computer.

PIGEON! mesenger
I Hard-SPL'd my Wing and threw Touch-It 4.4 on it. From what I am understanding, this means I can now use my phone with any carrier. Does this also mean that while using it with T-Mobile that they won't be able to charge me for AIM messages that I sent thru wi-fi now? They have a nasty policy of charging for AIM messages even if you send them thru private wifi.

You have tp PAY when you are using wifi????
when gprs isn´t connected and you are using wifi - that COULD not happen in my eyes.
BUT often when GPRS is connected AND wifi also the programs go through GPRS!!!!!! ths the problem. allways disconnect GPRS!
there is a liitle app "MoDaCo - Nodata" that prevents GPRS for connecting - if you don´t wish it to...
Trust me. I had the GPRS connection deleted from the connection manager. It could not connect thru there at all. I even called them and they said themselves, "there's a portion of the IM that travels thru T-Mobile" They wouldn't tell me for what, just that it has to. Bull**** because when I'm using hacked AIM 2.0 (they block the official AIM 2.0.), guess what? No AIM charges...
But I hate AIM 2.0. The software is ancient and therefore annoying.
How does Tmobile charge you for the AIM message? As data? As a sms?
Like the other guy, I dont understand how Tmobile would even "know" your aiming if you are doing so via WAN. Hmmmmm strange.

Tmobile's OZ instant messaging application allows you to use AIM, YIM and ICQ .. but the catch is, it uses the text plan in order to avoid having to use a data plan. So people use the IM application then get a bill for 1,000,000 SMS messages and they have no idea where it came from.

Yeah thats exactly the way I understand it. I figured b/c he was talking about going over wireless he was using IM+ or something.
hidavi, have you tried a third party program like IM+ ??
Doesn't matter, they still charge thru IM+. I know cuz for a whole month I used IM+ thru wifi and I got overaged $80 for AIM messages. I swear, if I'm not on data or wifi, my IMs won't go thru, not thru OZ not thru IM+.
This is from a product review
What I didn't know is that it is not a true online instant messenger application. Behind the scenes, it sends instant messages using SMS, and on the other person's end, repackages those SMS messages into the IM application. It seems like a novel idea, but the side effects are awful: OZ Messenger's ability to stay "connected" for chat, report the online/offline status of others, and report YOUR status as online/offline is hit or miss. Sending and receiving messages is also very unreliable. During the three days I struggled through this, roughly half of my messages weren't sent due to a "network error", despite having 4 or 5 bars and a full EDGE connection. (Side note - I'm also worried T-Mobile will bill me for SMS usage when I used this instant messenger)

Wow doode.....that sucks....
Well, I'm not getting charged nowadays since I'm using hacked AIM 2.0, but I really wish this program had a Today plugin and a easier to use interface...
From what I found in the guts of the registry, OzIM uses a T-Mobile server as a portal for the IM system. Since every IM you send filters through their server, they have full control to see where and what you are sending, saying, seeing, etc, even if you are on a WiFi connection.
I've seen several recommendations for alternate IM systems that Don't Suck. Slick was recommended by somebody, but I haven't personally tried it yet.
