Which hosted providers DEFINITELY support AKU2 push? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Searching here and elsewhere turns up too many bogus leads on "push" using SMS. Who KNOWS of a provider that is actually using the AKU2/MSFP/heartbeat/whatever method of pushing to WM5 devices with AKU2 ROMs installed?

Oh yeah, and if in fact they do use that method, should you still have to enter your SMS address when configuring your WM5 device?

I have AKU2 Rom and i use dslextreme, i called and confirmed they have sp2 and never have have had to use sms.

If you use A2UK method it does not use SMS, it keeps a http port open to you're Exchange 2003 SP2 server when it detects a change it synchs the email, task, calander or contact info.

Hmm...I have been looking at them, too. What still baffles me is that it asks for a message address when I change it to "as items arrive" - period. No address, no able to select that option - do not pass go, do not collect $200. I think I need a 10 step how-to.... grrr...

I need PUSH email from my company email account HOW??????

I think title says most of it.
I need push email from my companies corporate email system.
We have a Blackberry server but I have yet to find a working Blackberry client for the Wizard?
On my old PDA2K I have been using Smartner Duality which worked great HOWEVER this does not seem to be compaitble with the Wizard so suddenly I have lost my email capability and need to get it back urgently.
Any ideas out there folks?

PS Smartner client on my desktop in the office used to 'forward' all my outlook mail via a special server they had and thence to my PDA2K.
It is this kind of functionality I am lookiing to replace UNLESS someone actually has the Blackberry client software!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for the time being you can just set your wizard to sync with your exchange server over the net (wifi/gprs etc) every x minutes
You can try vgsmail by geoffreycross to be found in the thread 'push-email now available' it's developed for 2003 & there are posts by yzzard to get working under 2005 as well. Need to add some reg.keys manual.

I WISH.
My company is running a REAL OLD version of Exchange server and our Firewall will not allow PDA's to connect!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately this is not an option for me.

I doubt they actually block PDAs since Activesync just runs over port 80 and the mail apps just use standard mail ports. More likely they don't have the appropriate software set up to active sync. Sounds like you might be better off waiting until the next ROM updates (Rumors put it as close as this week, but deffinetly before the end of Q1 this year) and possibly looking into a hosted exchange solution and having your work email forward there.

I don't know if Vodafone offers the same thing as T-Mobile here in the states but see if they have corporate email access available, T-Mobile does and it works ok, similar to Smartner (i used that when I was running 2003SE) it works on my network and it is really locked down from outside access and they have disabled pop and imap access plus we are running Lotus Notes (man it sucks)

DirectPush - Send, Recieve Folders - but no email!!

I have setup Direct Push on our Exchange servers and setup my Qtek 9100 to DirectPush from it.
I recieve the folder structure
It tells me how many emails need downloading
I can SEND emails
But it doesnt bring any emails down!!
Can anyone help??

I seem to be having this EXACT same issue. I cannot figure out what is failing.
Hmmm.. I am not at all sure, but I have an idea. If you go to activesync on the phone, and then go to configure server (under the menu right softkey), and then hit next and next again, you should see the screen with the things you are syncing... contacts/calendar/email/taskes, ect... If you then click on email, the settings button sould un-grey. Click settings. Change "Include the previous" and "limit email size" to "all", and then hit the "ok" in the upper right corner, and then finish. Hit the left softkey for sync, and it should get all of your email from the server... I have no way of knowing if this is indeed your problem, but I thought it may be worth a try... I would be interested to know if it works!
I have seen someone with exactly the same problem which I couldn't solve.

Does everyone have this problem with Qtek or is it universal? I was going to try update ROM because you cant change account settings once you put them in, they grey out! But the ROM on Qtek seems a lower number than that I have installed... and Im not entirely sure what a ROM update does.
I have selected ALL on everything, just the number of emails to download increases... say 500 it displays 0/500 then 125/500 then disappears, still no email or anything!!
Just tried updating ActiveSync to 4.2 on a HP 6915...

Ok, here is what I've learned (which isn't much) so far:
I'm using a T-Mobile MDA with the stock firmware. I am trying to connect to Exchange Server 2003. I've seen the server options grey out as well, but the trick I've used is to configure the server options in Active Sync on the pc you have it connected to. The Windows Mobile version of Active Sync doesn't seem to play as nice at times.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have tried that as well. I actually went through the same steps with a T-Mobile SDA on trial as well. When I do the steps that you outlined on both devices, I actually pull down all the mail...but I get no new messages as they come (and I did configure the SMS to send "As they arrive".
I'm starting to think this is more of an issue with either Active Sync, Exchange, or how T-Mobile handles push email from Exchange.
I honestly dunno about qtec, I have a T-mobile MDA. I am running rom version 2.26.10.WWE (just upgraded...) and I am using the Microsoft Direct Push (no SMS required... ) What rom are you using, and are you using the direct push or the SMS method (as I believe they work differently...) Nope, when I got it push email was not supported by the default rom, and so I upgraded. I recently got a new one because the old one broke, but I believe that I upgraded this one before I tried to setup the push, so I dunno if it is supported by the default rom, or how well this works... hope this helps...

That's easy to find out - in ActiveSync on the device, set the schedule to "as items arrive". If you've got AKU2 on the device, it should NOT ask you for a unique device address.
You can also make sure by going into settings > system > about; my OS shows as "OS 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0). Afaik, that means I have AKU 2.3 on the device. You need at least AKU 2 for DirectPush to work. Oh, and Exchange 2003 SP2 on the server.
Did everyone else just setup DirectPush and recieve emails straight away, or is it just me with the problem?

If you get the folder structure, ISA should not be the problem. And yes, DirectPush works right away; if you have AKU 2.x on the device and when connecting to the server it determines that the server supports DirectPush, it should work at once.
Of course, DirectPush can be disabled in the Exchange System Administrator console. That would explain the effects you are experiencing.

Yes, that's the one I meant. Did you increase the timeout on the ISA server to 1800 seconds (30 minutes)? Does it work with other Windows Mobile devices? Does your mobile operator maybe not support persistent connections?
I have just set this for Outgoing and Incoming to 1800.
Tried my PDA and it still does the same thing, shows me how many it needs to download (which is nice) and then decides not to download them.
Vodafone (provider) tell me as long as Internet APN is active, which it is, it should be fine.

Somewhere in ActiveSync, you can set the debug level to "verbose". Does it tell you any more when you set it that way? Also, on the backend Exchange Server (where your mailbox resides), check the entries in the IIS Log (%systemroot%\system32\Logfiles\w3svc1\exYYMMDD.log - assuming it runs in the default Web Site, else w3svc1 will be something else). Do you have IIS Lockdown installed on the server? What happens if you sync manually, does that work? In the settings of the user (Active Directory Users and Computers), are the Exchange features pertaining to Active Sync activated?

After enabling verbose and trying one sync, what does it show when you hit "view status" in ActiveSync? Also, is it possible that you have policies in Exchange 2003 in place and your device is not compliant (e.g. no/too short password)?
Ive tried Verbose and no error is displayed, everything ends normal on Sync.
It is strange that you can send emails from the device no problems, so I assume the device is compliant. I have tried a HP PDA and have the same problem.

U1000 Supports Push Mail Confusion!

Sorry guys, I have never used Push Mail before, but I have been reading about them and apparently getting myself more confused. I know that it's a way of getting your email constantly from a server so you don't have to keep pressing send/receive button(Pull).
Does Dopod 900 support Push Mail as well? How about XDA IIs? I looked at all the activesync, and they all looked the same to me. All of them support Exchange servers. How could I differentiate whether a PDA support Push Mail? Is it hardware base? or it's purely Software? What is it to look for in a PDA whether a system supports Push Mail?

Whether a PDa supports push mail depends on the version of WM5 it has. As I understand it, the version of WM5 has to include the MS AKU 2. That enabled push mail, provided that your email server supports it - it needed Exchange Server 2k3 and SP2. Note that there are some publicly available push email servers

Blackberry is completely separate and is also supported (as I understand it) on the Advantage - it is supplied with the Ameo

Ok This push technology or BlackBerry, does it mean that your U1000 GPRS must be turned on continously?
I was also wondering whether as a personal user without corporate resources I could have this. I just simply configure my pocket PC the old ways. I'm using a telephone company's free email account that was with me for many years.
Then, to my surprise, the microsoft voice command started speaking to me that I have mail coming in while the unit was left alone. I no longer need to get in to press the send/receive button in order to get my mail. It just comes to be automatically - no tehcnial complexity to think about.
There are some free push email services around - google them.

Hope i am not hijacking this thread but after searching the Forums without success... can anyone please help on why i cannot receive yahoomail on my Ameo running WM5? when i click "send / recieve" i get the following in the status bar
1. connecting
2. logging on
3. recieving headers.
then an error message " Messages cannot be downloaded to your moile device, check your connection settings " and a second message " message cannot be sent, check server settings and try again"
thing is the same settings work on both my Universal running WM5 and TYTN II running WM 6.

Well, I finally bought Blackberry Curve 8320 for my push email purposes. And it's great. I only need to pay $20/month fee with unlimited data for send and receive email as well as Browsing internet using APN Blackberry.
Now the question is can I do the same with Blackberry Connect? Or blackberry connect only supports the email but not the browsing capability?
Anyone actually notices the difference between Blackberry Connect and Blackberry Curve 8320?

Outlook sync via Outlook Web Access without using web browser?

I used to be able sync to my work Outlook email via ActiveSync / Outlook Mobile Access (OMA). However, yesterday my work IT department disabled OMA on my Exchange server as they do not support anything other than the blackberry. Despite my protestation they are refusing to re-enable OMA. This leaves me with a big issue!
Does anyone on here know of a third party application that can sync outlook emails and calander using Outlook Web Access (OWA)?
I have found an application called Chronobis which is able to sync from OWA but only one way i.e. deleted items on Chronobis will not delete from my Outlook inbox and calendar appointments added won't sync to my outlook calander (or so I believe). Whilst this is a good start it really doesn't get me to where I need to be.
I am desperate to sync my work outlook emails to my new HTC HD2 (its the main reason I got it)!
Anyone got any other ideas / know of any other applications?
Would really appreciate any suggestions.

I've had a look and it seems this could do the job! Seems that the only way to get it was to join the beta programme which I've done but when I put my the vendor in it doesnt give me the HD2 as an option.
Any ideas what handset I should choose that will work with the HD2?!
I've also read compatibility issues with Manilla 2.5 in their forums. Has anyone managed to get this working successfully on an HD2? Also, are you able to move emails to your different folders using this app and have them sync with the exchange?
Is this the best / only app out there for my requirement?

ActiveSync uses OWA. Put in webmail server, username, password and works.
OWA still works, like afterburn said, i got my calendar, email and tsks to synch. lol now all my contacts are on my university email accounts, pretty cool tho.
no need for thirdparty, active sync does it.
dont know what OMA is. but what you want is exactly what OWA gives you.
dont set your owa using HCT SENSE/MANILA SETTINGS. do it through normal out look ad account way. HTC tick boxes for tasks, calendar and other stuff are greyed out and only email is available.
but on the standard outlook mobile all the settings are there.

OMA is office mobile outlook. It is a setting within the exchange server which either allows or disallows a mobile device to access emails through the mail app. Having OWA does not mean that you will be able to access your emails from a mobile device (except through the mobile browser).
Activesync uses OMA rather than OWA so at the moment I'm stuck!
As a result I need an app that syncs via OWA.
Seven seems to be able to do it but I could do with any answers to my qus above.
Happy to be proved wrong on this but one day it was all working fine and the next my exchage server settings had been changed and it stopped working.
Any exchange server admins on here who can confirm my thinking is correct?

I'm using Seven on HD2. There were compatibility problems with custom ROMs on other devices based on leaked Leo Manila.
Why don't you use Blackberry Connect on your Wm device? That way, you can sync the same way as Blackberry devices. Of course that requires you to have BB access rights, but since they are so BB happy, you may be able to get that.

I actually have a BB from work so I know that I am set up for it. However, I work for a company that are very keen on security so there is no way they will give out the settings I would need (its set up by the IT department and then just given to you).
Is there any way to get the info / settings I need from my current blackberry? Ive had a look on it and can't see anything obvious.
Just checked through some documentation on BB connect and unfortunatley it requires that I install ActiveSync and BB Connect on a computer connected to my works network.
As I dont have admin rights on my work laptop I won't be able to do this (unless anyone knows how to install programs without being an administrator!).
Looks like Seven might be the bset solution!

I admin an exchange server, the most common reason for OMA not working is if there isnt a valid ssl cert for the domain, but i can confirm that as you mentioned, it will deffo not work if mobile access is turned off on the user account (there are 2 seperate options for web and mobile access)
i dont see any decent reason why a server admin would disable it, he must be on a power trip or sommert!

Could the valid ssl cert be the reason even if others in my company are still able to access as before? Its only affecting me. I've set up one of my collegues mail accounts on my phone to see if it still worked and it did without any issues.
When I called IT they said they hadn't changed any of my settings so I had assumed that OMA was the issue. I asked them to check and to re-enable and they told me they were unwilling to even look at my settings!!! Our IT department has been moved to India which makes it even harder to get any help!
Could an ssl cert suddenly just expire?!
Is there anyway of me to get a valid ssl cert for the domain witout going through IT to see if this is the issue?!
Been doing some more research and want to see if getting an ssl certificate onto my phone will make it work. Absoloutely no idea if it will work but its the last thing I can think off!

If I double click on the padlock in the bottom left corner I can get the certificate details up on the "details" tab (although there are loads of files and I don't know what I'm looking at!). When I click "copy to file" the export wizard come up but I have no idea where to go from there!
Anyone able to offer any assistance please?
Also, I'm sure this is a stupid question but would I need to put this certificate on my phone or could I use a different one?!

It cant be an SSL Cerificate issue if your Colleague's account works on your device.
It MUST be that OMA is disabled on your account or something else is horribly wrong. As mentioned above i cant see any reason why an Exchange administrator would disable OMA.
Can you connect to your account using activesync on a different device to check whether its the phone or settings on server side?
To help you with using Blackberry Connect as a possible solution here are some resources on how to run programs that require admin level on machines you havent been given admin rights to. Some methods cover your tracks completely and others simply let you create/amend and delete windows accounts and associated rights in whatever way you need.
i would suggest using the first link to create a bootable usb stick that loads a modified linux command prompt. You can then use this to give yourself local admin rights.

I've tried to set up on 2 other phones, bith with no joy so I'm guessing its the server side rather than the phone.
Is there no way that its anything to do with the ssl certificate? Are they set up company rather than by user? Will my suggestion of putting a certificate on my phone definately not work (if I could even find out how to export it from OWA)?!
I also cant see why the OMA would have been diabled so thinking it must be something else!

I share Gooner's concerns and look forward to finding a solution. 1) My company has not yet enabled mobile devices to sync via Outlook Web Access. 2) Blackberry Connect does not yet work on HD2. There is a thread for BBC on this very same forum.
I am confident that a solution will soon emerge for 1) and/or 2).

Well, sometimes you need to install the certificate manually on your device to make it work. That's the case where I work - we use a self-signed certificate.
I use zarafa as a direct replacement for exchange, it syncs my emails,calendars, contacts etc.
It allows push email as well.

After looking around I have found it appears that there are 2 services that will allow you to sync a mobile device using OWA, even if it is not set up for OMA.
Seven - Currently in beta but others have had success with this service on an HD2. I believe that it will sync Calendar, Tasks and Email.
Emoze - Also allows you to check outlook via OWA and offers a free service or a paid for service. Paid for service allows you to remove the "sent from emoze" tag allows attachemnts to be sent up to 2mb (rather than 100kb). Think it costs 10 euros a year.

Push email and Telstra HD2

Can anyone confirm that they receive their push email through Exchange server (via Activesync) instantly on their Tesltra HD2 (stock ROM) whilst using Tesltra's Mobile Email plan? I am only getting my email every 8 minutes (which appears to be a result of the server not allowing the connection to remain open for the duration of each exchange heartbeat). Tesltra says there is no fault on their side, HTC and my IT deptartment likewise deny responsibility!
Anybody? My last resort is to flash the ROM with a generic ROM and remove the Dedicated settings for Activesync that Telstra imposes.

If your organization's front firewall is configured to kill HTTP connections after they've been idle for a certain amount of time, that can cause a problem like this.
I know ISA 2006 (which I used to publish my personal Exchange) has a wizard for publishing Exchange, which allows the appropriate length of HTTP connection for ActiveSync.
Other firewalls may require more configuration...

Does your organization have any other [external] devices that use ActiveSync?
Don't know. I'm told that iPhone users aren't complaining but that doesn't mean they are using push email rather than pop.

Does your organization support POP3 or IMAP4 against Exchange?
Most organizations do not.
I fixed the problem. I was using an owa.{domain}.com address for the server in Outlook on the phone. This address worked fine except for the emails only coming through every eight minutes. I changed the address by adding "/exchange" to the address and emails started coming through instantly, as push mail should. But it was shortlived. The phone kept chopping the "/exchange" part of the address and going back to the old problem. I then deleted the Outlook account and established the Excahnge partnership through the Mobile Device Centre with the phone connect via USB to a computer ON THE WORK DOMAIN. Before I set up the phone OTA / through a pc at home. This doesn't work. I think it has something to do with Exchange trusting a device that connects with USB to a PC in the work network rather than outside through the internet. All is working. No thanks to TELSTRA, HTC or the IT Department!!!!!
