Just phoned to upgrade my Buisness Orange SIm and was told that as I do not have 50+ mobiles registered with Orange, I cannot get a SPV M1000!
Anyone know where I can get one from?
Ashby
well here orange sell them all over often bundled with tomtom navigate
not sure if they ship to uk though
Does anyone know if this is true? Can you only purchase a SPVM 1000 if you are using 50 or more hand sets? Also, does anyone know how much Orange is charging for the handset when you sign up with service?
Thanks fo the help in sorting this out.
DJ
Try www.ebay.co.uk if there is one available it will be on there, just be sure if buying that you can collect the goods or ascertain the sellers credentials, there have been many instances of hijacked accounts on ebay recently, the feedback looks great, but you arent dealing with the owner of the account, the scammers tend to ask for money transfer via western union.
i doubt that it's true since many big eletronic stores here sell it bundled with tomtom gps
and they give the unit price on their site along with their other SPV
http://orange.dk/privat/telefoner/orange/
of cause i dont know if they ship to other countries
Orange M1000 - more details
I am new here - my first day of posting here ever.
Here is what i have been able to find out about this phone (M1000) from Orange
This is being marketed in 3 countries, - in Denmark to Business & Residential customers, and in UK and France to business customers only. Not just any business customers, many people have posted here and on modaco forums that you have to have 50 lines for your business. This is what i found when i called orange uk, they wouldn't even talk to me till i told them i have over 50 employees (as if). One person said he was told he needed 500 employees, but this seems to be an exception.
As stated by others, this is a lunatic decision for Orange to have taken.
I have searched the internet for buying these.
This was selling, apparently briefly, on Expansys (UK online electronics) but they have sold all they had and are not expecting any more at the moment, as far as i know ( i phoned them about it). I believe it was selling for over £500
There is one Danish site which is offering this on a Denmark Orange Tariff, but I am sure that you would need to give them a Danish address to be able to buy this from Orange Denmark, - i could be wrong. According to current exchange rates, the amount they were asking for was over £400, and that was on a Danish Orange Tariff of at least £30 a month. Not much use to a UK person, unfortunately.
I will be getting a few of these models (unwanted upgrades by some friends who are in a big enough company, but don't particularly like PDA 's as phones) over the next few days, i will beposting one on ebay today or tomorrow, which i will start the bidding at £400 ish.
If anyone wants to approach me outside Ebay, and you live in the London area, contact me please.
Good luck with this, and there is a good review of this, including pictures and videos taken with it, on this URL
http://www.msmobilenews.com/mobile/?cid=454
All the best, and what a gr8 site. I intend to unlock the phones before selling, have any of you used the fantastic tool for unlocking on the Orange spv m-1000 specifically?
Cheers
Ammateur
In France the device is sold on Orange shops about 450 Euro with a contract or 730 euro without
but SPV1000 is only 32MB Ram + 32 MB Rom where XDA2 (O2 or other) are 64 Mo RAM and 64 MO Rom so be carefull read the specs
RAM on M1000
Sorry, if you check out the review link i provided above, from Brody, the founder of his website, who tested one of these and provides much pictures and information, he says the UK version had 128 total, not 64
Its a perfect phone
I recently got hold of a SPV m1000 for DKK 3.600 excl. VAT andwith a contract. I love the design and smallness of the phone but if Orange really won't offer it to ordinary people in your countries then go with another brand. I heard rumours about m1000 lacking memory compared to the other brands, but mine is as good as the O2 (128 MB) and I don't belive they design it in other ways for other countries, especially considering the tininess of Denmark.
Cheers
Johan
also since they are all Himalaya devices then starting to change the inner hardware would inc the price even more then removing the mem would dec the price it just would not be a profitsome thing for orange to do
Individuals can now get the m1000 on contract in the UK, see here.
Hi...
i would like to buy a HTC prophet derivate...
as far as i understood from reading the wikipage
there is no technical difference btw e.g.
dopod 818pro, qtek S200 and o2 neo...
However, I oberserved a big difference in price for the latter two in germany (around 80-100 €)... dopod is not available here...
So does anyone knows a reason for this ?
I would very much like to stick to the cheapest one (of course),
but maybe there are some minor differences...
I also read that a dopod with english rom boots faster than a Qtek version with german rom ??
However, one could change this just by loading a new ROM, right ??
thanks for clearing things up...

They are the same apart from the badge painted on them.
Well mostly anyway. They differ only in the software each provider adds to the basic specification. For example O2 will add O2 Plus.
You can indeed flash one prophet ROM with the ROM of the other prophet - but be careful otherwise you will end up with an expensive paper weight.
The price difference relies upon the software bundled and the warranty and tech support you get.
QTek costs less because there's almost lacking tech support, but at least you get twice as much of warranty (2 years vs 1 year) than on other brands.
Hi Rayan...
in fact, the o2 Version is cheaper than the QTek one...!
But thats a different story... Just after i ordered the o2 mobile on monday "night", i noticed that the price was higher on tuesday morning (similar to the Qtek) - maybe i asked too much questions
However, i ordered for the cheaper price; lets see if i will get it...
cu.... Marcel
P.S. in generell i have the feeling that technical support is always a bit disappointing... usually you find more help in these kinds of forums
Hint: O2-prices can vary a *lot* between online shop, O2-stores, independent phone stores and the MediaMarkt stores.
Be sure to check that!
cu
Hi ...
yep, true... But i just got my o2 neo last Friday from an internet store and... the display is heavily damaged... one can use it but it has a huge (20x10 pixs) spot of dead pixls...
So.. having bought it in a slightly more expensive o2 store would be nice now as well... lets see...
cheers.. Marcel
I'm kicking around the idea of buying a Hermes, it's a sweet phone and it seems to have fallen a bit in price since I last looked at it. When searching for the different branded versions on eBay, I noticed that I could pick up a Cingular-branded Hermes (8525) a good deal cheaper than the rest of them. Are there any major shortcomings to the 8525 over other versions of the Hermes outside of the missing front camera? Using an American GSM provider, would I even miss the front camera?
I'm on T-Mobile, but if I grabbed a Cingular Hermes I'd obviously just go ahead and unlock it and use it with my service. Honestly, I think it would be pretty sweet to get the T-Mo UK branded Hermes (MDA Vario II) and carry that around instead. Then my friends would be like "whoa dog why does my T-Mobile store not have this phone how did you score it!!!" and I would be like "hell nah homies this **** is elite". But alas, it's not worth paying $600+ for a T-Mo Europe branded one when I can get the Cingular-branded one for well under 500.
Do you guys who have used multiple Hermes' have any preference? Would I likely be just as well off with an 8525 (given that I plan to flash it) as an HTC branded "TyTN" or other HERM200 version of the phone?
Thanks!
I got the 8525... If your not going to use the video calling, why pay more?

That's just it, though -- I'm wondering if it's even possible to use video calling in the United States. Is it?
More importantly, are there any replacement shells or cover-ups available for the 8525 such that one could make it appear not to be a Cingular device? I know I'm weird, but if I buy a Hermes for use with T-Mobile USA, I think it looks silly to have Cingular branding on the ****.
Thanks so much!

I bought a Vodafone 1605 on Ebay and used it with T-mobile and now Cingular....I don't mind the brand name on the phone cos I know it's all the same inside
The Vario II pricing is coming down in the UK ... just got given one for £50 on a renewal which is roughly 60% less than I was quoted about six weeks ago.
(typing as I wait for a full resync on my shiny new wm6 black to complete )
You might be able to snap one up off eBay UK on the cheap if your timing is good ...

I am pretty sure a little alcohol and rubbing would remove the branding.... if your really desperate you could use a little nail polish remover...
I think you can buy "shells" for these phones on ebay. I don't know if they are interchangeable, aka using a Vario II shell on a Cingular 8525, but I would assume they would as long as the button configuration is similar.

That's actually a really good idea; I could only find about two total MDA Vario II's on ebay.com (which makes perfect sense), but when I went to ebay.co.uk there were ****loads. Unfortunately, it seems that most sellers only offer to ship within the UK so I'd have to find one ahead of time that would be okay with shipping to the States.
That brings my next question though. What's the deal with QWERTY vs. QWERTZ keyboards? The MDA Vario II seems to be the latter, and I've typed on a QWERTY all my life and really have no intention of switching. Is it possible to not only map the buttons to QWERTY on a Vario II, but to physically switch the keys?
Man, what a pain this is all turning out to be. I guess I should probably just score a Cingular-branded Hermes and be done with it.
Hi all, I've been here since I had my Himalya, now with my Blue Angel. This has been a great site for all sorts of reasons. I've been dipping between the Porient H9 and the Athena, and well this place has won the Athena over for me.
My question just now is who would be the best Telecom service to get a contract with on the Athena in the UK? I know T-Mobile have the web and walk package, but their reception isn't really reliable where I am. And I can't find the phone easily on O2, Vodafone, Orange or 3 (pah!).
Thanks in advance for any and all help here.

the only provider that does the phone is tmobile. (Ameo)
if you want to use another provider then buy the HTC Advantage x7500 varient (expansys are good) or get an ameo from ebay and unlock it.
I got mine (Unlocked HTC) from expansys on an O2 contract. (saving nearly 300 pound - 320 including postage)
I found them very helpful and informative, and would highly recommend them.
without a decent unlimited HSDPA or 3g connection i wouldnt bother.
Get Tmobile webnwalk and your set.
i went for the htc advantage on expansys as the ameo colour didnt do it for me especially the keyboard, also seen pictures with scratces on the devices.
Hi
I just sold my TyTN, and want to upgrade to a Trinity, its smaller, and has a GPS which I will need.
However, I have this "strange" urge to only get the White one. I live in Hungary, and there are no White ones available. Can I order one from somewhere? I will also visit Hong Kong this coming September, and also Mainland China, can I fetch one from there?
Any suggestions are welcome,
Thanks
Ben
Well, the white is a good choice, also because it's not affected by the paint peeling syndrome.
Unlike the black one, the color doesn't seem to be past on the plastic but, to be the original color of the plastic itself. Therefore, after 3 months of use, there isn't even a scratch on it.
When I bought mine, beginning of june, I wanted a black one, but there wasn't any available where I live.
I took the white one and now I've heard about this paint problem, I feel lucky I did.
Don't know where in Asia or Hungary you can find a white one.
In France (and maybe in other European country where they are present) Orange is distributing only white phones.
I got mine from Orange but in south America, so it's not Orange M700 style, but just a plain HTC P3600 one, white.

Hi
Thanks a lot. That makes me feel I want the white one even more
Can I obtain one from some sort of an online auction, or other online means?
What is the difference between lets say the Orange M700 and plain HTC P3600?
Thanks a lot
Ben
Hi
I found many M700s on ebay. I will try to obtain one.
unlocking one is not so trivial, I guess.
Any other places I could get one from? Maybe Asia?
Thanks
Ben
Maybe at Dopod's

As you already found out, the M700 is SIM-locked on the Orange network, and has some customizations and settings for Orange network and services.
Yes, you can always use some paid services or some 'unnofficial' applications to SIM-unlock your M700. The latters are free, but more risky.

Yes, on the Trinity, the SIM-unlock process, according to users feed-backs doesn't seem to be a big deal. I don't know myself, since mine wasn't SIM-locked, despite I got it from Orange. Their policy in South-America is more flexible.
As far as Asia is concerned, I don't know which operator sells white trinities.
CHT (Taiwanese) seems to sell (only?) black ones. Maybe you can try Dopod 810 in Hong Kong, which is SIM-locked like the M700.
But at least, you'll get WM6 ROM already on it. As Dopod users are the only ones who got WM6 upgrade officially.

White Trinity

Ask for Ron Webber
Hi
Thanks, wow, wish I had found it earlier, I just got a locked one from Ebay UK. Anyways, thanks a lot for the info, and perhaps I am better off from the UK then from the US for the simple fact that I dont pay any import taxes.
Great input all of you, really appreciate it. I am looking forward to the phone, and will be unlocking it at the very time I get it.
Cheers

I bought an Orange SPV M700 off Ebay the other day...Unlocked it and have spent ages trying to find a WM6 upgrade for it....Entered various sites but they will not accept S/N...This is driving me nuts....I even can't find out how to register the phone (not the sim)with Orange...Does all this mean I will have to wait for Orange to get it's act together?????

Hi,
I think you can just upgrade any WM6 you wish to use. You may need to unlock the CID as well, did you?
I will start my phone with Unlocking it all, and upgrade to Dopod WM6. I am a bit afraid of cooked ROMs, as I am a rookie at this still

It was suppose to be a complete unlock as I had to load another program for the GPRS....Been in I.T. for a very long time but all these acronyms blow my mind....What's CID?
Let me know how you get on Ben.

Hi,
As I dont have the phone yet, I am only speaking from what I read here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Trinity
And this is specific to the unlocking process:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_SimUnlock
And then you choose a ROM from here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades
And upgrade. As to tell you what CID is, I am not sure, but more experienced people refer to a phone which is unlocked for new ROMs as SuperCID.
If I wanted to give my best shot at guessing, this is what I would presume:
There is a SIM lock, and a CID lock. The SIM lock is obvious, prohibits you from inserting a Foreign SIM card to your original provider, in this case Orange.
CID is a lock that only allows HTC or ORANGE signed ROMs to be uploaded to the phone. One you unlock CID, you can upload any Cooked, or other but official ROMs. Like I said, I will choose the Dopod ROM, which supposed to be Official, but I am not sure Orange locked phones will allow that at all.
I (we I think) would be very much grateful for someone who could explain this in detail, and correct my mistakes above, as I assume I have a few.
Cheers
Ben
just for the info...
actually around asia the white trinity/dopod D810/HTC P3600 is a limited edition. It cost a little bit more than the black 1. And it is introduced a few months later after the 1st launching of the black one. i am not sure whether they still have in on asia market. As i was told, it was only sold on the market just for a few months. and i agreed the white ones is better than the black. especially for the bottom part of the casing. the chrome grey color, will tend to peel off easily.
just an info for u ..
