in the ftp site - uploads htcwizard folder, all the files have gone
please help
any new yet on where they are? need to dl the stable qtek (1.6.7?) rom asap...
cheerio
they're right there ? you do need to log in with the right credentials - username:xda password:xda
I don't see it there anymore either...
No, the Wizard directory is empty.
The permissions were 777 (write anyone) and someone apparently went in there with an FTP client and did an "rm *".
Bad, bad, bad. Let's hope they have a backup and set the correct permissions next time!
really did not understand a word of that...
so what does that mean, someone loggin in and deleted the files,
or someone killed it
i dunno
but i know some have been moved to the Wizard folder instead of the upload\htc_wizard one
Redpizzi is right, go to the wizard folder (not in Upload) instead and you will still find a lot of things. Dunno which weirdo would del hard work but it might be stuff just got moved on purpose?
it probably just got moved on purpose, yeah... I mean, all the roms/etc. are just in the main Wizard dir. 'Upload' dirs are for user-uploads are meant to be only temporary until an admin can decide what to do with the upload in question.
You can find them by going to the main ftp site, in the wizard directory. They were just removed from the upload ftp.

Hi all,
Havn't posted for a while but I am still here! My exec seems to be running pretty fast now, using ozVGA
Anyways, just installed 2 patched *.exe files into windows directory (Backlight.exe.0409.mui.exe and Power.exe.0409.mui.exe) but me being stupid, I forgot to make a back up of the ORIGINAL backlight.exe and power.exe (located in the Windows DIR on the phone)...
So could somebody PLEASE upload me them two files, as I really need to restore them because using ozvga is hurting my eyes at the moment!
Thank you!
Not sure if this is what you want, since they are ROM files.
They originally had Read-Only, Hidden & System attributes set, but don't know if those will survive being compressed with WinZIP.
HTH
Exactly what i needed.. but I have no such luck of getting them onto the exec! i remove the attributes and it still doesn't let me copy!! DOH! any ideas? and thank you for such a quick reply

Sorry, wait a minute... That's better just got my spare (hopefully working) brain cell out of cold storage.
Both files are shown as "ROM" files if I look at their properties in the \Windows\ folder using Resco Explorer, so, errr..... won't they already be there if you delete whatever you've currently replaced them with?
Unfortunately, neither ActiveSync Explore, nor the PDA's File Explorer appear to allow you to overwrite an existing system file on the PDA. Resco's Explorer does allow this, although you get a message saying that the world will probably end if you do. I just tried copying another program into Windows as Backlight.exe. Then deleted my program, and the original was available again. But as mentioned, not posible with File Explorer, nor ActiveSync Explore.
Ok, simply by deleting the two files restored the default versions and fixed my problem.
Thanks for your advice, astage.

link not working .
1 Is it possible to delete files (.dll is what I'm after) out of wallaby ROM? I thought I read that it was, but now I can't find that info, mkrom, splitrom, etc info that I see all tells me that you can only add or change..
2 BTW, what's with all the versions of romtools & tools with the same name (but different versions?) in the demokitchen? I assume its good to have the latest and greatest, but I am beginning to rethink my assumption there. When I say versions, I am looking at the dates of said files in either /~itsme/cvs-xdadevtools/romtools or /Wallaby/Tools/CustomROMToolset or /Wallaby/Tools/MKromxxx.zip or http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/mkrom.zip as well as a bunch of different versions of dumprom.exe (win32).
Any particular set that is most functional? I've noticed that a .pl file or two wanted to run dumprom (ELF version) which !work on cygwin, and another wanted .. unicode whatever.. yeah.. In one place or another I had to edit the .pl file & run it under cmd prompt instead of cygwin. Worked swell.
3 So in a set (I think it's the wiki's customrom instructions) of cook-you-own-rom instructions, it says to add neccesary files to files directory. files directory you just dumpromed to. Ok. My neccesary files are MMS files & whatnot. Later in the directions it tells you to run some xipchains stuff, with files1 and files2 directories as arguments. Well, there's nothing in there, since I put them all in files. The ROM builds, but I end up with basically the same rom I started with. if I dumprom it back out, I can't see any of the file additions I did in the new rom.
So I'm gonna assume again, that I should stick my files in files2 for the most part, so the scripts that build xipchains & calc free space etc can do their job & one of those scripts will get my files where I want them. (in the rom!)
TIA
BTW, if anyone is interested in the Arcsoft MMS Composer software not working in LumpiStephans kitchen, you need to grab & install Camera_WWE.sa.cab from someplace, which will install the requisite .dlls to make the MMS software work. Yeah, it's big, and there is no camera on the wallaby, I know. But the EzOS wap browsers MMS software really sucks (for me), and looses parts of the messages from certain people. I dunno if it's their email client, or what.. don't care.
if anyone is interested, I can tell you what DLLs it needs, I sat there for a while checking out the dependencies, and that way you don't have to install as much extra crap, but I don't have it handy right now. lemme know.

The 14. command (Run "perl makefiles.pl ./files ./files1 0x$size1 ./files2 0x$size2" ) should split the files with best fittings to the corresponding directories....
So perl makefiles.pl ./files ./files1 0x00050000 ./files2 0x00380000
would copy up to 320 KB to files1 and up to 3584 KB to files2......

Stefan
I am having a problem getting my contacts to show. When I view a contact, all I see is a blank "Summary" page (tab). On the Notes tab, I can see whatever data should be there.
I had problems with ozVGA until I discovered that I needed to use the .92.DLLs that were on this site and not on the ozVGA's author's site. When I did copy these .92.dll files into the windows dir, all seemed great. However, at the end of the copy process, I had a pop-up that stated something (unknown which file) could not be copied and that either I ran out of space or a file was Read Only/ In Use / ROM or something to that effect. I checked each .92.dll file and all seemed fine as far as the RO attribute being off.
Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this? I was thinking outres.96.dll might be the culprit. Any ideas?
Here is what I think is important to know:
ROM info below in tag.
VGA via ozVGA (http://oz.sciox.org/OzVGA053.zip)
Started with VgaRes.zip (http://oz.sciox.org/VgaRes.zip)
Ended up putting VGA 1824 071105.zip on to fix lost and altered icons.
Thank you,
These are not the correct files. There is another zip on the FTP server named VGA_AKU2.zip. If I remember correctly it's in the
ftp://xda-developers.com/Universal/Tools_Programs/ folder, but I can't get to the ftp server at the moment but you'll find it.

Thank you very much, Joannaex!
Contacts shows blank
I had the same problem with blank contacts because I had issues with Voice Command. There was a suggestion to replace the outres.96.dll file with a newer version. When I did this, i started to notice the problem.
I'm assuming that this file is specific to the hardware you are using, maybe that is where I messed up. I am using a rare Benq P51. I tried renaming outres.96.dll to something else, then reboot the phone hoping that it would recreate itself. It did!
Tried contacts again and it is fully functional.
Hope that helps.
Disclaimer: Ok, I know this is off-topic but I have found that the people here on this forum are pretty smart with their computer stuff so I'm fairly confident that someone here can help me with this.
I have a folder on my desktop called com2. I was using this folder a while ago for no important person, it was just a random name for a temporary new folder. When I was done using it, I deleted it. Or so I thought.
Now as you can see the folder is still there, and when I try to delete it Windows doesn't want to play along.
I can still drag and drop files into the folder, but then if I try to open the file that I place in there, it says there's a problem with the directory. I tried creating a new folder on my desktop with the same name but that spat an error at me.
Basically it seems that this folder doesn't exist at all yet for some reason it won't go away! Anyone know what to do?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hope someone can help.
As usual i am putting new cabs into my documents on the pc and syncing. But when i open file explorer, these new cabs are now showing as windows files that cannot be open as oppossed to cabs as they used to be.
I'm a bit of a noob ,so i'm not sure i have explained this very well but hopefully someone can help.
Thanks in advance.....
sounds like you are extracting the cabs to me, i just have a folder on my sd card i call general crap, and i copy all my cabs in there, go to file explorer sd card then general crap then click on what i want to install
Thanks very much for the swift response. Its very odd that this has started happening all of a sudden. Some cabs ie wallpapers, are going into my documents, but others as i said seem to now be windows files and not cabs, once they are in my documents and cannot be opened, very very frustrating !! I'll try what you said this evening and see if it works, but i cannot understand why it would all of a sudden be extracted when thats never been the case before ?
I'm sure i must have changed something, but i wish i new what
Cheers again for your help. I would be lost without this site, and my HD2 would be no-where near as much fun.
Thanks for the help, but it didn't work. Files still appear as window type files that i cannot open instead of the usual cabs. Wish i new whats changed, but unless anyone has a suggestion, i can feel a dreaded hard reset coming on !!!
Can you not just explore your device with activesync and copy the files manually, rather than using some method of synching? Or, connect as a USB drive and copy the files to your memory card. Either they're not actually cab installers, or the sync process is doing something to them.
Just tried both your suggestions, but with no luck. But thanks anyway for the reply. Wish i new what has changed but something has .

What actually happens then when you click a cab file? Do any old cab files work, or is it now all cab files that won't work?
It says " The file ????? cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file "
You can see before you try to open it that its not right, as i say , it appears to be a window file not a cab, once it goes on my device, though judging by the size of the file it is all there !!!
Wallpaper cabs seem to be working for some reason though.
Using your PC, browse to the folder on your phone and see what the file is called. If it doesn't look like a cab file should, then it probably won't have a .cab extension. (I only say this because the file explorer on the phone does not show file extensions. Your PC may not be set up to do so either though. The alternative is to use Total Commander or Resco to see what the file extension is.)
Can you give me a link to a cab file that doesn't work for you?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576232
Shortcuts to start menu folders is one of the cabs. As above .
I'll have a play with the other things youv'e said.
Thanks again for you help.

Well the link you gave me is a zip file with a cab file in it, so you would need to unzip it first. Cab files are actually a format of compression, so it's likely that a cab file and a zip file would have the same icon on your PC. It's for reasons like that that I always make sure to have file extensions switched on on my PC.
Try unzipping it and copying the contents to your phone and see how you get on with that.
You are a life saver. Now I can say thank-you very much, that worked perfectly. This website is brilliant for those of you who know what your doing and for those like me who just like to play with their device and make use of the knowledge on this site.
