Contacts are blank in VGA mode, Notes tab is ok. - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I am having a problem getting my contacts to show. When I view a contact, all I see is a blank "Summary" page (tab). On the Notes tab, I can see whatever data should be there.
I had problems with ozVGA until I discovered that I needed to use the .92.DLLs that were on this site and not on the ozVGA's author's site. When I did copy these .92.dll files into the windows dir, all seemed great. However, at the end of the copy process, I had a pop-up that stated something (unknown which file) could not be copied and that either I ran out of space or a file was Read Only/ In Use / ROM or something to that effect. I checked each .92.dll file and all seemed fine as far as the RO attribute being off.
Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this? I was thinking outres.96.dll might be the culprit. Any ideas?
Here is what I think is important to know:
ROM info below in tag.
VGA via ozVGA (http://oz.sciox.org/OzVGA053.zip)
Started with VgaRes.zip (http://oz.sciox.org/VgaRes.zip)
Ended up putting VGA 1824 071105.zip on to fix lost and altered icons.
Thank you,

These are not the correct files. There is another zip on the FTP server named VGA_AKU2.zip. If I remember correctly it's in the
ftp://xda-developers.com/Universal/Tools_Programs/ folder, but I can't get to the ftp server at the moment but you'll find it.

Thank you very much, Joannaex!

Contacts shows blank
I had the same problem with blank contacts because I had issues with Voice Command. There was a suggestion to replace the outres.96.dll file with a newer version. When I did this, i started to notice the problem.
I'm assuming that this file is specific to the hardware you are using, maybe that is where I messed up. I am using a rare Benq P51. I tried renaming outres.96.dll to something else, then reboot the phone hoping that it would recreate itself. It did!
Tried contacts again and it is fully functional.
Hope that helps.

Unable to delete files under 'My Documents'

Hello all!
Sorry for this newbie question, but I couldn't find any answer in here to this strange situation.
I have put couple of files under 'My Documents' and now I cannot delete them (or move/rename etc.). Also I cannot add any files into this folder (or any sub-folders).
------------------------------------------
Cannot delete 'xxx.mp3': Access is denied.
Makes sure the disk is not full or write-protected and the file is not currently in use.
------------------------------------------
And no, they are not write-protected or in use, so what is the problem?

Thanks in advance!
[email protected] so happy with this brick.
Have you tried soft reset and then try again?

Nah thought had forgotten something.
* I have tried both soft and hard reset - no result,
* of course I mark the file first and no they're not read-only.
If you read my description than I'm unable to add any files under my documents as well, not only with deleting them.
I can create a 'New folder' and delete this, but while creating it I can not name it - get an instant error...
Seems to be the typical joy of Microsoft.

I've exactly the same problem since yesterday.
But with Totalcommander I can delete and rename all.
I've restored an old backup, but the error is allways there.
edit:
Now I tried an Hardreset and replayed the backup. The error is away.
Hi!
I'm having the same problem. But I don't have a backup copy.
Also I'm beeing unable to connect thru ActiveSync. Maybe the problems are related. No problems when connecting with W2003, though. I think I will have to downgrade and live with it for the moment beeing..
Any ideas??
Thanks.

welcome.exe

Hello all.
Im having a bit of bother with my xda2i, its given me nothing but trouble for about 5 hours now. The problem i have is the align screen wont progress and therefore the device wont start. I have been into the \Windows\StartUp folder via activesync and removing the welcome.exe shortcut from the folder allows the device to start without requiring the screen alignment, problem then is that the screen alignmnet is very wrong. i cannot find the welcome.exe that the link refers to, i assume that it shoud be in the \Windows folder, any idea's? If the file is missing from the folder, does anybody know where a copy can be found.
Many thanks
Stev
That file is in my \Windows folder with Welcome.exe and welcome.lnk, but when I try to copy it to my desktop to zip up for you, I get a file not found error, it may possibly be protected in some way?

Convert to dll files?

Does anyone know how I can convert png or ico files to dll files so that it can be used with SK Shortcut Manager or PocketTweak to create shortcut icons?
I have been searching online for a method for a long time and it appears that the only way to do so is by using Visual FoxPro. However, I don't have this program and there isn't a trial version i can download. (I don't want to spend money buying a program just to make a few dll files for my shortcuts)
I have also tried some other freewares and trial softwares online but none of them are successful.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Attached here are the 3 icons i would like to turn into dll files. If anyone know where to get them as dll files, that would be great too.

Nevermind zip file attached. enjoy
Still not working...
i downloaded the program and used the IconDLL.dll file i got from PHM Tools then i changed the icons inside to the one i want. However, I still can't get it to work despit doing that.
What I did after getting the new .dll file with my icon in is use the shortcut creator program I found here. I tried to read other .dll files and i could see the icon but as soon as I use my own .dll file I made (which I put in the /Windows), it crashes the program. I then tried another program, the Strat Menu programs manager and I still could not read my icon.
I even went through all the post in this forum about shortcuts and tried some of the tricks there. I downloaded Microangelo Librarian and attempted to use IconDLL.dll by adding in my own icons (as vijay suggested in an earlier post), however, according to the advice he gave, that should be it and it should've been easy. This wasn't the case because I couldn't save the file as a .dll file since it said that the file is a read only file or is locked. I then tried save as but that only save it as a lib file.
I have been at this for a whole day now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
** oh and I even tried using SK Shortcut Manager and I still couldn't read the .dll file I made :..(
Hi teresa611
I also use Microangelo Librarian.
what we have to do is just open the program.
1. Drag any icons into blank librarian.
2. Save as *.icl
3. Just rename those *.icl to be *.dll
4. Copy to PPC
5. Enjoy
Hope this help
tried and failed
even tho i changed the name to .dll, when i dragged it into my pda, it's still a librarian file and i was unable to read it. perhaps, i'm doing something wrong if it works for other people.
i'm starting to feel this is more trouble than it's worth. Thanks for the advice tho. If anyone else has any other ideas, please let me know.

For me, I have to put .dll into \Windows; otherwise, it is not work.
In addition, you may try using icon_viewer utility to view those dll in order to ensure it is a work dll.
The attach is icon_viewer. Copy to PPC and run.
Thanks. I'll try it later when I get off work. I really hope it works, cause I'm running out of forums to search
problem solved!!
just to refresh this thread and to give others some info if they're stuck with what I was stuck with. I finallt managed to create .dll files and use them in my pda as shorcut icons.
Instead of using Michelangelo Libarian which I am still confused about, I found this great freeware called "BeCyIconGrabber". It allows you to extract icons from .dll and .exe files and you can also load multiple icons there as save it as .dll.
Thanks again to everyone who tried to help

Help Please. Cabs not going into My documents

Hope someone can help.
As usual i am putting new cabs into my documents on the pc and syncing. But when i open file explorer, these new cabs are now showing as windows files that cannot be open as oppossed to cabs as they used to be.
I'm a bit of a noob ,so i'm not sure i have explained this very well but hopefully someone can help.
Thanks in advance.....
sounds like you are extracting the cabs to me, i just have a folder on my sd card i call general crap, and i copy all my cabs in there, go to file explorer sd card then general crap then click on what i want to install
Thanks very much for the swift response. Its very odd that this has started happening all of a sudden. Some cabs ie wallpapers, are going into my documents, but others as i said seem to now be windows files and not cabs, once they are in my documents and cannot be opened, very very frustrating !! I'll try what you said this evening and see if it works, but i cannot understand why it would all of a sudden be extracted when thats never been the case before ?
I'm sure i must have changed something, but i wish i new what
Cheers again for your help. I would be lost without this site, and my HD2 would be no-where near as much fun.
Thanks for the help, but it didn't work. Files still appear as window type files that i cannot open instead of the usual cabs. Wish i new whats changed, but unless anyone has a suggestion, i can feel a dreaded hard reset coming on !!!
Can you not just explore your device with activesync and copy the files manually, rather than using some method of synching? Or, connect as a USB drive and copy the files to your memory card. Either they're not actually cab installers, or the sync process is doing something to them.
Just tried both your suggestions, but with no luck. But thanks anyway for the reply. Wish i new what has changed but something has .

What actually happens then when you click a cab file? Do any old cab files work, or is it now all cab files that won't work?
It says " The file ????? cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file "
You can see before you try to open it that its not right, as i say , it appears to be a window file not a cab, once it goes on my device, though judging by the size of the file it is all there !!!
Wallpaper cabs seem to be working for some reason though.
Using your PC, browse to the folder on your phone and see what the file is called. If it doesn't look like a cab file should, then it probably won't have a .cab extension. (I only say this because the file explorer on the phone does not show file extensions. Your PC may not be set up to do so either though. The alternative is to use Total Commander or Resco to see what the file extension is.)
Can you give me a link to a cab file that doesn't work for you?

Shortcuts to start menu folders is one of the cabs. As above .
I'll have a play with the other things youv'e said.

Well the link you gave me is a zip file with a cab file in it, so you would need to unzip it first. Cab files are actually a format of compression, so it's likely that a cab file and a zip file would have the same icon on your PC. It's for reasons like that that I always make sure to have file extensions switched on on my PC.
Try unzipping it and copying the contents to your phone and see how you get on with that.

ATT StraightTalk MMS?

Hello everybody, I've tried numerous times using the method of trying to get mms to work on my samsung focus with straighttalk. Everytime I go into diagnosis it never has the straighttalk option even though I have the xml saved and placed in the provxml folder like the directions state. Right now I'm currently using Dynamics 2.0 and I really could use someone's help. Please can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or is there another method I could use to get mms working? Thanks so much in advance.
I have the same issue. I even went to the windowbreak site and it put the windowbreak xml file in the provxml folder that I created, then when I went to the GPRS Manager, neither one of them show up. There is some change that has been made in the way the GPRS Manager finds the XML files, it sure isn't looking in the provxml folder like it did in previous versions of WP7 ROMs.
I tried searching for "Gumi Test Bed, Suwon2G, etc. I think that if I could find the location of those files, I could put the straighttalk xml file in the same location, and then get the MMS to work.
I looked around on the internet for clues on where the Gumi, etc files are located, and all I could find were the instructions for doing what you and I are trying to do. They all say that if we can't find the provxml folder to create it. They also suggest looking for the Gumi, etc. files but I found no posts that showed that anyone has ever found that location.
I posted about this already in the Windows Phone 7 development section of this Focus website.

Same exact issue, its almost like 7.8 does not see the provxml folder and that the test bed files have been moved. I had the same issue as will in strawmaplez 7.8 rom. To be honest, I am at a lost as to why dropping the straight talk.xml file in to the provxml folder doesn't work because if I am not mistaken most of the 7.8 ROMs out there are forked 7.5 refresh ROMs with the 7.8 leaked ROMs. Unless this is one of the elements from 7.8.
I had the xml working in the strawmaplez rom. I created the provxml folder in the main directory, them I placed the xml file in there. It found it no problem.

Now that I think about it, I am going to revise my statement about strawmaplez I got the ROM to see the provxml folder and the straighttalk.xml, however it didn't work, it still would not allow me to send or download MMS.

a shot in the dark, but have you tried activating autosimsetting in diagnostics? you can toggle it with either 40*047#3 or *#94765#
we don't have straight talk around here, so i don't know if the mms settings are also stored in the sim card or not

I can give it a shot, and I don't believe the MMS settings are in the SIM because straight talk requires you to put in a APN and other information.

I have a Focus 1.4 and I flashed the vt2912 W7.8 rom yesterday. So far no major problem besides the MMS for StraightTalk. I downloaded the xml, made a provxml folder in the root directory and put the xml in there. In the GPRS menu I can see StraightTalk and load it. However, MMS still doesn't work after loading it. There was one time I got it to work by rebooting after loading the xml, but since then I haven't been able to reproduce it. Do you have any other tip that may help make it work?
