Tomtom Clearout - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I have copied Navigator 5 to a larger SD card so I have space for other files but it still takes up too much space & leaves some empty folders lying around..
What other files/folders can I remove withoy affecting Tomtom, how about the 2577, Palm, Raster & Schemes folders?

yep I ditched them with no problem

you need 2577 if you want auto-install to work

Does anyone have TT residing ONLY on the SD, in other words the .exe and its other \program files\navigator contents? I install most apps now to the SD, except those like PZP and any today plugin apps like PocketBreeze (has anyone installed THAT to SD and if so, how does it perform?).
Cheers
Ant

TTN CANNOT reside exclusively on SD card. You need at least "\My Documents\TomTom\CurrentMap.dat" in the main storage (or in RAM on older machines).

How do I save to sd card

My XDA2 now has a Sandisk 512MB card.
I also have Journal Bar, SPB pocket plus, Lextionary, Pocket Atlas, Pocket Stars, Currency Convertor X, a few games, (and a few others which I ran out of memory).
What I want to know is how exactly do I get the programmes to run from the sd card, so that the XDA2 memory isn't used to store them.
I have tried x-backup, and I have tried cutting the files using file explorer to the sd card, but then the programmes do not run from the start menu.
I'm sure it's something simple but please let me in on it!
So near, and yet so far!
well when you install programs using activesync you can choose between
if you want to install it in main mem or storage
some programs dont work though if you install them to the storage
if you dont want to install the programs again you may be able to edit the shortcut and pointing the path to the new location and some programs may also require some regediting for them to work after being moved
if you dont want to edit the shortcuts then you can just make new ones
whats under programs is just which shortcuts that are located in windows\programs
Thanks for the help.. made sure I said no to installing in default directory.. now to see if each programme works.. Thanks for the help!
Similar position
Hi Gumby I'm in a similar position to you in that I just got a 512Mb SD today and I intend to rebuils my system with appropriate applications on the SD. Have you found out yet which work from the SD and which only work from ROM?
It would be halpful for everyone if we could get a list of what should go where.

Please share your experience about using the Storage

I use the Storage to store some DLLs to save space. It works, not for all programs though.
Have tried installing programs to storage before (Journal Bar and Avantgo) but system seemed to be unstable afterwards.
Wonder if anyone has any good experience of storing and running other programs from Storage.
Also, has anyone tried installing the cab files from extended rom to Storage??? Is that possible at all???
RE
Yes, you can use Storage to store your cab files for the EXTROM.
BTW, program cab files for Storage and EXTROM are those that don't upgrade frequently otherwise you'll have to hard reset frequently too
Using Storage or Storage Cards should be avoided for anything on the today screen or anything which is bound to a hardware button. This is because the SD drivers take a little time to initialise when the device powers up and can result in files not being found - which can lead to small or big problems, depending on the nature of the 'missing' file.
This is why Pocket Plus cannot be installed in Storage any more and why Pocket Informant recommends installation into main memory. This is documented both by Spb Software House and WebIS.
I was beta testing SpbWeather and had some of the skins installed to Storage - whenever I used those skins, the plug-in was icon-less on power up, but main memory skins were fine.
As mentioned above, be careful selecting where to install Today Screen plug-ins.
As of the Storage, well I am not sure but I recommed you put in SMALL items in there since the storage becomes unstable at times because to OS may use a little of the Storage space to accomodate memory intensive applications like Adobe Acrobat. Correct me if I am wrong but this is what I understand about it.

Ther is so little storage there, why not just ignore it and use SD memory, or main memory where required?
I use storage to store my wma ringtones... haven't have the guts to move the DLLs yet. with regards to this... if i create a folder named Windows in Storage and move all my DLLs there would I need to hack into the apps individually ang make them look at this folder... or will the OS automatically look at both folders? Some people say to use systempath to do this.

As I know U have to hack the registry files of single appz to point in to storage folder instead in the main memory...

It's 10% of the device's memory, that's not insignificant and certainly not worth wasting. I store 13.2Mb of utilities and etc. in Storage so that it frees up the same amount of Main Memory but permits me to use them when swapping cards. I think it's a waste not to use it.
Into my Storage i have install :
Resco keyboard pro
Laplink controller
Handymenu
Hottbutton plus
Phone today
Today phone pro
VIto voice dialer
Used space for all this 3.21 mb
Free space 4.31 mb
I Don't have any problem at all, my JAM works smoothly & stable plus the today plugins run faster than ever...
Try with no doubt ...

Storage folder usability

Hi,
I am reading for the post that people make use or make bigger \storage folder.
I never use or didn't know that \storage folder can be used as \storage card folder (SD Card). So far I only know that it is used to keep contact, todo, calendar, and connection.
Could I put file, program, wav or mid file on it to make use of \storage folder?
Can somebody please explain.
Thanks!
Arto
keep it i your mind as just only another sd-card storage but with better spped times.
What I heard is SD is faster than storage.
But the REAL advantage of storage over SD is yr PDA will not supply power to SD in suspend mode. And time is needed to initialize it from suspend mode
Therefore, if yr PDA want to loaded program installed on SD from reset (or suspend) mode, it may complaint it couldn't found the program or low batter error
anansky thanks.
Could I install something like Skype on \storage folder? And can I run it like normal program afterthat?
I should try it myself, but I am too lazy
Regards,
Arto
yes, U could.
But for skype, I would rather install it on SD (unless U are using an SD wifi card) since it doesn't needed immediately after an suspend.
Good canadiates of program to be installed on storage will be Today's plugin, driver, Beta Player (in case I switch the SD for the songs), DLL (using MemMaid to move dll from main memory to storage), and programs I needed even I need to take out the SD (eg. Resco file manager, Resco Register editor, Burr Oak's Hot Button, Pocket Hack Master, Voice Command and Pocket Informant)

I have the impression that the \Storage (ROM) has slower read/write speed compared to main memory (RAM) so I wouldn't install my frequently run programs like Today's plugin into \Storage.
Would the OS use the \Storage space as working memory when main memory runs low? I've got a feeling that it would not...
Is it possible to:
1. set MyDocuments default path to Storage?
2. Store mail attachments on storage folder?

Yes, ROM is MUCH slower than main memory. But mini only got 4x mb main memory left and some programs and DLLs must installed in main memory to work (Chinese Plugnin, Voice command ... etc). People like me who runs serveral applications at the same time (GPS software, BetaPlayer, Phone) have to sacrifty some speed over stability.

T-Mobile NL MDA Compact upgrade works
Hi,
Just wanted to drop a note that the magician_os1.11wwe_bigstorage works, I just upgraded my T-Mobile Netherlands MDA Compact.
However, I did have some troubles getting the rom image on my SD card (sections=1 not allow, update! errors). After tried about 4 different cheapo brands of SD cards, I finally got it working on the boxed 256 MB Sandisk MiniSD w/ adapter which came in the T-Mobile package.
As this 15 page thread mentions a whole spectrum of bytes to copy varying from 220 bytes in the original doc, up to several MB's, the number of bytes I copied is exactly 416 decimal bytes (that is 1A0 hex, i.e. HDD Hex Editor showing Sel: 00000000-000001A0 (416 bytes) in the right bottom corner).
All files I used for the upgrade are on http://www.crapware.nl/qteks100/

transferring programs to miniSD card

i recently purcahsed a 2gb miniSD card off ebay and was wondering if i could transfer some of my existing programs to the card without reinstalling it.
actually, it was just some games because i have some pretty good high scores
thanks!
Yes most games will work without reinstall and keep high scores - just copy whole of card onto pc and then onto 2gb card.
This is what i did when i got my new 2gb card - only couple of apps needed reinstalling
Not so easy I guess. Is'nt it like on your PC ?
You have to deal with registry entries, cfg files or whatever the individuall program works with...
I would try to locate the file (if available) where the highscores are saved and put them in a save place, than reinstall the game.
If the highscores are also stored in the registry than it sould be easy to reconstruct them after a reinstall like: locate them in the registry, make a screen shot to retain the values and recreate the registry keys after a new installation like they where on the old ones.
It's a try worth...
blueled, your turning it into a rocket science.. just copy the folders to \storage card\program files\gamex and then using resco explorer click and hold on the games .exe and click on add to start menu and it puts a link under start-programs. you might want to use pocket mechanic or mem maid to remove the old icons/shortcuts or you could just edit the old icon/shortcuts by opening the .lnk with notepad and adding a \storage card\ in there.
ok, sorry blueled, i think i turned it into the human genome project
fone_fanatic, ist it that easy ? Than thanks for the correction.
Maybe I should apply to rocket sience NASA or ESA.
Programmers just think to complicated some times.

Storing .tsk onto memory card?

Is this possible? I've placed a file in the storage card but when I click on it the screen jumps to "settings" then "today" but the file isn't on the list of choices
Any thoughts?
Cheers
marto.
You have to copy it to the phone's \My Documents folder or |My Pictures in order for it to show up as a choice for your Today Screen theme.
I assume your talking about the "my doc/my pic" folders on the unit and not on the memory card?
What I want is to keep the .tsk files on the card to save space on the mini.
:? marto.
Hello,
Create a folder named My Documents in storage card and place your .tsk files there to get recognized by the device

Yes -- I'm talking about the phone's memory. I have over 400 .tsk files on my storage card, but only copy over a weeks' worth at a time to my phone to use. Once I use it, I delete it. So, at the end of the week, they've all been deleted from the device memory and I copy over 7 more for the next week.
A weeks' worth of files isn't going to take up much storage memory -- about 500 - 600K, and 80 - 100K is being deleted daily as they get used.
I've tried to create a shortcut in the \My Documents folder on the device to use the .tsk file directly from the SD card (which would only use about 45 - 60 bytes), but that didn't work, so the afore-mentioned will have to do for now.
Cheers for that Newbie2 8)
Yep your doing exactly the same as what I am. Obviously thinking the same too a shortcut from the storage card
Bummer with the results though...
marto
Try putting them in the root of the storage card - works on my wizard
while we are on the subject of memory limitation annoyances,
is it possibile to get photos and videos automaticly saved onto the SD card insted of the precious internal memory?
Hello,
Ofcourse it is possible! Get into camera, settings/tools and choose the place to save files.
