For some reason - my QTEK 9100 fails to maintain the connection to my GPRS service. Once I connect, it holds the connection until I make/receive a phone call. Thereafter, the device shows the connection in place, but it fails to pass any more data through the connection. To keep using the data connection, I must either soft reset or switch flight mode on/off.
(Needless to say, I have been able to use my SIM in other GPRS-enabled phones).
ROM 1.1.7.5
Date 9/22/05
Radio 01.01.10

Anyone have any ideas?
Is there a ROM upgrade or RegEdit that could do the trick?
Same **** with mine 9100 on MTS. We should get together to solve this issue. Let me know if you got the solution. My ICQ 2662731, phone no. 916 137 7540, Leonid.
Absolutely the same problem with my Qtek 9100 on MTS. Some people on the forums say it's operator's problem; others claim it's not. However, switching from MTS is not an option for me anyway (corporate cell phone number, etc.) so I would be very much obliged for any solutions, or at least hints towards what can be causing it.
One possible solution (haven't tested myself yet) is setting GPRS to 'always on' via the registry editor; however
a) Will it drain my battery much more than usual?
b) Won't GPRS get disconnected in standby mode?
hi
hi. try to initiate GPRS connection with the default inbox email. press send and receive to check email. let it connect GPRS. when someone call u. it still maitain but the during call, the other person must pick up the phone. if nobody pick up the phone. the GPRS will have problem and need to turon and turnoff radio again. this is the only to maintain gprs, that is, to initiate GPRS connection with the default inbox email.

One thing I know for sure:
it will not drain your battery any more that when connecting gprs on demand. I used to use the "grps always on" feature and can't tell the difference in battery life.
Regardless of the "gprs always on" setting I do sometimes have problems with the connection. The icons (gprs) say it's on but no data is transferred (no e-mail/www received) but it happens very rarely and I can't tell in what circumstances.
By the way: holding the red off-hook key for 5 secs closes the gprs connection - check if it doesn't make your problem easier to bare ;-)
Maybe you could try another operator's SIM - at leat you'd know if it's the Wizard or the operator.

Yes, I know about this one; however, since GPRS won't reconnect anyway, this doesn't solve anything for me.
Oh well, I'll keep experimenting and hopefully Qtek will release some ROM updates in the future to deal with the problem.
Update: After playing with the settings a bit, the problem indeed seems to be with phone calls; i.e. I can disconnect/reconnect GPRS manually without any problems, but once a phone call is made or received, GPRS stops reconnecting. I have a suspicion it's actually an operator issue but haven't had time to try some other SIM yet.

I called service today about this problem, they heard nothing about it, they said. Also they invited to flash rom, that was released month ago, they said. I asked them about version but call operator didn't know.
I'm afraid to do that because they could flash older verison than I have, and there are some roms that have troubles with incoming calls, I read in russian Qtek forum.
My version:
OS: 1.3.9.4 RUS
Date: 9/29/05
Radio: 01.01.10
Protocol: 4.0.13.16
ExtROM: 1.1.7.105
I read there are some utilities to save rom but I cannot find how to save rom to hard disk to restore it in future surely.
My version is:
ROM 1.1.7.9
Date 9/16/05
Radio 01.04.10
Protocol 4.0.13.17
ExtRom 1.1.7.111
(Russian OS)
Just read on some Russian forums that there were the same problems with s100 until the new radio version was released, so I guess we just have to wait.

Just tried it myself, didn't work for me either.
So far, the problem can be diagnosed as: regardless of GPRS status, a phone call (outbound or received) will screw up the existing GPRS connection and any future attempts to reconnect unless a soft reset/flight mode switch is made.
I hope to god a ROM update will be available in the near future; meanwhile, any and all suggestions are welcome.
Today I visited service, they flashed me the same rom I already had. Then they tried to solve problem at least 2 hours but with no success.
I advised them to be ready for crowd of users of 9100 who connect to MTS.
Technician said I have to wait new rom update, but he cannot say nothing about release date.
I want to beleave...
Some guy at Russian forums put forth an idea that our problem might in fact be an issue with lousy MTS implementation of EDGE.
So in theory it could be solved by turning EDGE off entirely (if it is indeed possible).
Same problem on my Qtek 9100 ... is there any updates available for the ROM?
I have this same problem on both my Kjam and Qtek 9100. I am in the United States and use Cingular. I suspect this is not a carrier problem.
I'm in the US on Cingular with a Qtek 9100. I think the issue is that the carrier drops the GPRS connection after time, or the signal is lost and WM5 doesn't react. Either way, seems like leaving GPRS in constant ON mode plays into the problem rather than help it. After installing GB-SOFT Tweak http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4714.html and setting it to release GPRS if unused for more than 10 or 15 minutes, I don't get the GPRS problem nearly as often. Furthermore, when a GPRS lockup does occur, turning flight mode on and then off again restores function without the long cycle time of a soft reset
Christian
I had the same problem on my IMate and it was fixed by turning off (2sec) and then turning on your device once the GPRS connection was established. Haven't tested on my jam yet
I have the same problem since upgrading to AKU2 ROM - before I never had that issue...
Hi all...
I bought a qtek 9100 a few days ago...and after some intial frustration about removing the russian OS and putting english back on.... i found out that the GPRS intermittantly locks up (every 5 to 10 minutes or so)....
I've been searching through the previous posts and can't see if anyone else posted a solution....but I think I may have found one, and I would ask if someone else who has this problem please try....
In the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Comm, change AutoCnct from 1 to 0 (This disables Activsync's autoconnect)
Please let me know how you get on....

What's your operator? It's well known issue for MTS Moscow, still there is no solution . It doesn't depend on version of ROMs.
Yes.....I'm using MTS....
I had no problems whatsoever with GPRS on my iPaq 4700/Nokia combination.....
Yesterday, I was using the Qtek for hours with no problems with GPRS disconnections or lockups.....but I was sitting stationary at my desk. However, when I started to use it on the way home in the car...the problem appears again...
I have a feeling it mught be to do with when the phone changes cells....
BTW, does it also lock up if you constantly ping any Internet computer in the background? (See http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...w_to_combat_automatic_disconnecting_fr&more=1 for more information on doing this.)
It's not a disconnection issue....it's a lockup of the GPRS/radio system.
One minute you will be connected fine, then the next, no response (but all indications are you are connected ok).
When you try to disconnect, the disconnection process takes anything from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, and almost locks the device. Once you have disconnected, you cannot reconnect until you have soft-rebooted.

GSMTestmode works with MTS. I guess it doesn't depend on operator.
so, no solution for the reconnection problem??
I had same problems with Radio lockups on my UNIVERSAL. I've tried different ROMs with no luck. BUT after changing my Radio rom back to latest from T-mobile (1.10.03) everything back to normal- all day driving with GPRS on - no lockups at all!!! 100% solution is..... use old radio rom.
I bought my Jasjam 5 days ago. I am having a problem that sometimes people cannot call me. When they make an attempt to call me they get the message that the phone is off-line.
When the phone is in this state I cannot make calls either although I can see the "G" icon as well as the signal bars. The dialer shows "Dialing....." for a few seconds and then cuts out.
This does not happen all the time but say once or twice a day.
Things become okay when I soft reset my phone.
Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced a similar problem and if there are any solutions. This is very annoying as you are so uncertain that you may not be accessible and you don't even know of that.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Kind Regards
I wonder whether it's worth trying to take it off automatic band selection and choosing GSM only for a day to see if it still has same issue.
Start>SettingsPersonal>Phone icon>Band and selecting GSM in both drop down boxes. In second drop down list it'll be the GSM band for your area or test on each to see which works.
I suggest the above just in case you have the dropped line due to auto swapping between GSM and UMTS issue.
Mike
I seem to have solved the problem of the radio silently switching itself off without me knowing and so risking unnoticed missed calls.
The ROM version supplied from the factory with my Jasjam (HT647xxx) is as follows:-
ROM Version: 1.31.305.2
ROM Date: 8th September 2006
Radio Version: 1.21.31.10
Protocol Version: 32.53.7020.01H
Ext ROM Version: 1.31.305.104
Bootloader Version:1.06
Strangely the I-Mate site at this point states the latest ROM available for download is:
ROM Version: 1.20.305.3
ROM Date: 21st July 2006
Radio Version: 1.07.03.10
Protocol Version: 32.41.1010.02H
Ext ROM Version: 1.20.305.104
Bootloader Version:1.04
So I flashed my Jasjam with the ROM of 21st July 2006 downloaded from the I-Mate site.
For the last two or three days since I have downgraded the ROM the problem of radio switching itself off seems to have disappeared.
Just wondering if I-Mate are aware of the problem with the ROM currently being shipped with new devices and so decided the keep the old ROM for download on their website.
I will continue checking and report if I see the problem reappearing.
I thought to share this information in case it is useful for any one of us.
Regards

I already changed the rom 6 times, to 6 different roms (official, boiled, WM5.0, 6.0, 6.1), but nothing happened... I already try to change radio rom only to a different and back to the original. But nothing...
The last service said "the hardware is ok", they measured everything.
The problem is that the phone connect to the tower, but after 1 minute lost the connection, but show me the full signal level and I'm unavailable. At the first call that I make it show me an "operation failed" message and reconnect...
I think it sounds more like a radio ROM issue than an OS ROM. I had similar issues until I found a radio ROM that worked for me.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I had change my OS ROM and Radio ROM to your settings
IPL 1.04/ SPL: Hard-SPL V7 2.10.OLIPRO
Radio 1.48.00.00
Rom Version:Josh's Manilla2D v15
But nothing...
Please help me, my Dopod 838 Pro has No GSM!
This sounds similar to the problem's I'm having with my Sony Ericsson X1. It started a couple of weeks ago, seemingly spontaneously. I had been running the same firmware (generic UK R3AA010) for quite a while with no problems (at least more than usual with the X1) but suddenly one day these symptoms show up:
People who try to call me get an "unavailable" tone. If they try again it works fine
If I try to call someone, it just silently fails the first time. If I try again it works fine
So it seems that the phone gets disconnected form the network somehow. It can't just be that the phone network looses track of where the phone is (in which cell), since it affects outgoing calls as well.
I've tried this with two different SIM cards from different operators with identical results.
I've tried a couple of other firmware versions with no help. If anyone can help with information on this I'd be very grateful.
There's no way I can use a phone that people can't reach me on, but I can't stand the thought of throwing a fairly expensive phone in the trash.
exactly same problem here. I figured out that switching off the phone function in comm manager and then switching it back on does the trick without soft-reset, but I don't need to explain to you how annoying it is... I've already changed 4 OS roms and 2 radio roms with no result... I'd appreciate any suggestion very much.
My Dopod D810 from 3 drops calls regularly.
I think every single call will drop out after about 1-2 minutes. I also notice that when my phone is 'warm' from charging or other uses, the call can drop as quickly as 10 seconds into the call.
Initially it was suggested that the drop outs were due to my Phone > Band selection being set to 'Auto' but I have since changed this to Network Type=WCDMA and GSM/UMTS band=UMTS(2100+800).
But now I'm more inclined to think it has something to do with the device's temperature....
Any other ideas other than taking it back to 3?
Try changing the Radio ROM.
I had a similar problem after changing my Radio ROM from 1.41.00.11 to 1.46.00.11. Now I`m using 1.46.30.11 version and everything is OK. I even noticed a GPS signal level improvement.
I have the similar problem too. I m with 3 Australia. Upgraded to WM6 official ROM, still observing if call drop still happened.
If not, will take back for warranty repair
I am using a HTC-branded P3600 with the official HTC GPS-enabled WM5 ROM on the Vodafone UK network. With reasonable approximation I can say that I have 0 dropped calls (including calls made or received while in car).
My network type and band selections are both "auto".
Sometimes I make calls while the phone is charging via USB from a laptop (which makes it rather warm) but I haven't noticed any dropped calls in that situation either.

I`m using a WM5 LVSW edition. Used it with 1.41.00.11 for 3 months without problems, changed to 1.46.00.11 for 2 days and encountered call drop issue, changed to 1.46.30.11 and not even a problem so far.
I am using my trinity with 1.41 and WM6 (AX3L) and I really never drop a call unless I step into an elevator. I am usually on UMTS or HSDPA living here in NYC and cannot complain about my service nor the phone.

Thanks for all the replies. Went ahead and upgraded ROM and Radio version to 3.00.707.16 and 1.46.30.11, respectively.
So far, no problems with call dropouts but I haven't made many long calls on it over the last 2 days but will keep assessing.
On the previous incarnation, I had also installed/uninstalled a LOT of programs over the 6 weeks I had had the phone so perhaps that contributed to the phone's instability too...
For me, it kinda worked the other way around...
I never experienced any call droppouts when I still had the original WM5 ROM with radio version 1.33.30.10 on my Dopod D810. (I'm with 3 in Australia)
After upgrading to the ANZ WM6 ROM with radio version 1.46.30.11, I can sometimes not even establish a connection as the call is dropped after the first ring or so. The other day I had to make a call 5 or 6 time to finish the conversation...
Is anybody else having similar issues AFTER upgrading?
Hi guys,
good to see that i'm not the only one that have call drop regularly.
Well, in fact, those are not always call drops.
Sometimes i miss calls and some other times, when i want to make a call, i see that my trinity's loosing the signal and starts to search for networks. Then i have to switch off the phone through the Connection Manager, then turn it on again so that i can make phone calls.
Are you experiencing the same on your device?
I'm still using Radio ROM 1.38.00.11
Do you guys have a link where to download the latest Radio ROM so that i can try it on my Trinity?
Thanks.

Yep, I experience drops after upgrading... But the strange thing is... even after downgrading to the shipped rom... still drops... ARRGHHHHHH
I'm just going to try another rom I think... not sure yet. Have switched my band from auto to fixed. First gonna see what happens.
Some said it is due to 3G/3.5G trying to establish a data connection (most likely for push mail) and in doing so the phone function is disabled. I did not verify this claim.
If anyone wants to test it, you might want to try:
1. disabling 3G and 3.5G
2. disabling data connection
and tell us the results!

I will disable HSDPA. But I cannot disable my data connection because that's THE reason I bought my device for (using it for pushmail but I can use that with UMTS/GPRS connection also, don't need HSDPA for it).
I have found if I have network on AUTO i cant make calls, phone call drops straight away.
Switching to GSM allows me to make calls, but then I have no 3G
Found that radio rom 1.46.00.11 has no calls dropping for me. So I'm gonna stick with that one.
Cheers.

I have this ROM actually installed in my Trinity, and i still have call drops regularly
Once more today, it started to ring, then lost signal.
I'm wondering how much people has the same issue.
I used to have the same problem. I've reflashed my phone so many times coz of that.
But it seems like my problem's finally fixed
I'm using the most updated PDAVIET wm6 rom with Radio: 1.50.08.11
Been using that for about 2 weeks, haven't had a call drop since.
However I have had a few hangs here and there.
I run a lot of apps so the memory is pretty low most of the time. Yet for some reason I'm not getting any call drops so I'm happy. (Finally able to talk for like 15 mins without breaking up)
just fyi i'm also with 3, and don't have that band setting since I luv HSDPA yet certain areas only got Telstra reception...
Calls drop out
Hi, I'm in Sydney with 3 and haven't had any problems at all with the shipped WM5. After upgrading to the latest official WM6 ROM version 3.00.707.18 from the Dopd site things went bad with phone calls and weak signals.
Now upgraded the Radio to version 1.50.08.11 and everything's back to how it 's supposed to be.
Cheers and good luck.
Hello,
First this is my env :
- ROM Winmo : ROM Pyrana V-H-11.3
- ROM radio : ROM 2_12_50_02_2
- Carte SD : 4Go
- ROM Android : FroyoStone_Sense_V3.1
My problem :
When I boot the rom android (manually in winmo), after few hours (about 9, 10 hours), the internet connection fail down.
Phone calls woks fine but not internet acces
I can do this : parameters -> com manager -> uncheck mobile network -> re-check mobile network
after that The internet connection works during few minutes and fail down again.
Thanks to give me some tips or link to solve my problem.
I don't know if that may cause your problem, but did you check if your phone is in airplane mode before you boot android? It seems a little strange, because it works for 9 or 10 hours.. but check this anyway.
Another problem might be your radio, but I think that won't cause your signal loss after such a long time. But just to be sure, why don't you flash another radio?
Cheers
JanssoN,
Thanks, I'm not in airplane mode under Winmo.

No, there are two newer ones.
Here is 2.15 (i think the latest, dunno if it works good with android).
Radio 2.15
And this is an older one 2.14, but I've flashed this one and I have to say it's very good. The signal is perfect and the battery drain is about 7mA in standby.
Radio 2.14 (take the one on the top).
Edit: I've just found another tweak which maybe will work:
Try this out
Oh my god 2.15 !
Flashed !
I'm waiting to verify the stability.
I'll come back tomorrow to give you the result !
Thanks a lot.
