Benefits of Microsoft Voice Command over Cyberon? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I read this post about how this guy was very excited to get Microsoft Voice Command working on his Wizard but nobody listed why. For the noobs here could someone please enlighten me as to what the benefits might be over Cyberon's Voice Speed Dial Daemon?

Very simple. MS Voice command does not require you to "train" or voice tag each and every contact you have. For example, if you add a new contact you have to explicitly train Cyberon to understand it. If you don't have many contacts, I guess it's not a big deal but it could be if you do.
VC, on the otherhand, couldn't be more simple. Just install it and it's good to go.
Any questions?

VC - It does a ton of other stuff too, like you can say "what are my appointments?", "what is the time", "start VJToggleToday" etc.
V

aMS voice command allows you to say things like "What's my next appointment?" or "Show (contact name)" or "Dial (contact number)"
Also it launches any program in your start menu or programs folder by saying "Start (program name)"
Also... and this is my favourite bit... you can say "Call (contact name)"... and it will reply "Call (contact name) Mobile or Home?" You say which one, and it dials.
ALSO if you say "Call (contact name) Home" and you don't have a home number for that contact, it says back to you "Home number not available. Call mobile?" and you can say Yes or No.
You feel a bit of an idiot speaking to your phone, especially when you say things like "Start memmaid" but it's super helpful in the car.
Start mermaids?

Thanks
Well thank you all for clearing that up. It seems Cyberon's Voice Speed Dial is a poor and pathetic relation to MSVC.
If half of what you've said above turns out to be true then I will be very happy with this app.
Without training how accurate can it really be though? I've just switched from a Motorola e398 which only allowed 50 voice tags. Since each had to be recorded twice and there were only 50 of them the accuracy was very close to 100%.

i use both, here's why
ms voice command is certainly better, however, I am not able to send a command to it on the xda exec, through my BT headset, when the clam shell is closed, even when using the reg hack, as u still need to open the clam shell, for it to work, so for that reason, I prefer to use cyberon,s voice command, to initialialise a BT call when clam shell is closed, I use ms voice command for everthything else, both work great, and I enjoy having them both installed

Yeah I still have them both, but now:
Click the speech button to launch MS Voice Command
Hold the speech button to launch the default one.
I can't see myself using the dictaphone feature ever, really.

MS Voice Command 1.5
Hi all,
When i first got the MS Voice Command 1.5 I was excited as it's potential is very very useful, it also worked very well .. for a while only .. then suddenly it started becoming unstable and working intermittently particularly the Announcement of appointments that worked for while then stopped. Also when one asks for a particular contact to be accessed, the contacts application is launched and a blank screen is displayed. Does anyone have the same experiences and if so is there a solution out there for these problems?

yup i experience the same problem with the trial version, when you say show "name" contact
I get a blank summary screen (the correct contact is called up as if you have any notes information you can read that) but not the details you need,
hopefully its not a problem in the full version, Ive just purchased the U.K edition full version and am about to install it, ill post later once tested to let you know
cheers
C

oKkie dokkie just installed the UK version 1.5
quite like the new accent my Exec has, definately got a bit of a pommie twang,
but i can confirm the same problem exists, when you say show "Name"
it brings up the contact but the summary screen is blank,
i don' know if installng to main memory might help, i know MS recomends it, but it's over 3mb big, and i decided to rather install to SD card

I really like the fact that it will announce the caller ID through speaker when call comes in. Plus you can voice dial any number without training: "dial 12131234567" and it will read back to you to confirm. And I still can't get over how well it recognize my commands.
You can download MS Voice Command and try it on your phone before deciding if you want to buy it.

Well I gave it a try as well (English version) - worked fine for me but the 'dial 12345..' command ... it always understood a wrong number. So yessss ... some of you guys might have noticed the french flag next to this message ... but nothing to do with the accent, I had the same problem with the french version as well, even clearly spelling the numbers with a half-second long break between each did not help. Do you have the same problem ?
Cheers,

MS Voce command does not announce the outlook reminders
Does anyone know why the MS voice command intermitendly stops announcing the outlook reminders, it works for a while and then it stops working and then works again???

Missing phone functions - no more!

I've been using PocketPC Phone Edition since the first XDA came out. Since then a lot of things has changed, devices gained more memory, became faster, smaller, adopted Bluetooth and WiFi. But one thing remain almost unchanged - phone dialer. It does serve the purpose, but a lot of things are missing and annoys avid cellphone user. You know what I am talking about
For me one of the biggest concern was absence of Calling Card support. I am communicating with our overseas officies couple of times a day on the regular basis and dialing all those numbers is really pain. So, while I was looking for calling card support add-on I came across this piece of software - MobiDial.
It's not a total phone dialer replacement, more like a shell for it. It does everyihng I want and excpect from a phone - calling card support, one hand operation, vibratouch, nice and clean interface.
Here how the main interface look like:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you can see, all buttoms are big and nicely placed. Also, you can enable vibra option, so you can actually feel when buttom is pressed.
At the bottm you can see row of icons:
Settings, address book mode (see screenshot below), 4 strars represent speed dial windows where you can also assign pictures, and call log icon.
You can switch in between them by pressing jog left and right and scroll in address book mode by up and down.
As I've mentioned before, the biggest advantage for me is Calling Card support. Programm automaticaly dials International numbers without any users intervention. Actually, you can specify this in the settings: always use card, ask user and bever use it.
This is international call in progress:
Couple of things: current release version doesn't work correctly with Second Edition, but beta with SE support is available upon rewuest from developer. Also, first load takes about 5 sec, but then it pops up instantly, by the way, you can assign harware answer/hangup buttoms to MobiDial
You can try it for 14 days here:
http://www.mobidial.com/mD/
I've made a small video of using this software. DivX encoded, 950 KB.
Cheers

P.S. I've posted the same review on HW, I am using a different alias there
HI. I had same concern of yours for a while, and I got great help from your topic. However, I'm stil lmissing one feature: The caller groups, allowing you to assign a ringtone to every group or individual caller. Combined with the Sendrui pocketzenphone application, you might not even look at the screen to know when to answer whom. Any advice?
Thanks in advance, and hope I can be of any help one time.

RingtoneX does this nicely. I have all my contacts filed under Categories in Outlook (like Family, Friends, VIP, Business, etc.). RingtoneX lets me assign ringtones to each individual or by category. It works perfectly. Since you can create any category name you want it makes it real easy. (Only thing I've noticed is it didn't like spaces in my category names like "Friends 1", so I changed my category name to Friends_1 and now it works great).
Anyways, it's only $7 for the software, and it works very well.

Make a call from a text message?

Hey guys, so I receive an SMS and it gets shown in Pocket Outlook. Now on any normal phone I simply press a button and I'm given the option to reply by text or simply call the number that the text was sent from.
Where is the option on the Hermes? I'm running Windows Mobile 6. Please don't tell me it simply isn't there?! Even a cheap £10 phone from a supermarket has this available.
I'm starting to regret getting this phone. It seems like if you actually want to do anything practical with it you have to pay for additional software, like spb GPRS monitor to make sure you don't spend too much on data traffic, or spb Mobile Shell to actually give it a usable thumb interface. I think it is nothing short of scandalous that all these things are included as standard on a basic Sony Ericsson phone. Such is life; pay loads of money, you get ripped off. Free, you get it all. I am slowly resigning myself to the fact that as a phone the Hermes / o2 XDA Trion just plain f***ing sucks. Back to my K800i I go. At least that actually functions as a proper phone without all this nonsense.
All I ever wanted to do was have a phone with wifi built in and the ability to play old dos games. Never in a million years did I think that there would be so many hoops to jump through.
And no one here ever did answer my question about running dos or giving me a list of what number all the keys were (e.g. "Button 0" = OK, "Button 1" = Start, etc.).
I really wish I'd got a Nokia N95 when I renewed my contract. I wouldn't then be stuck with this piece of [email protected]

In pocket outlook (text messages), pressing the green key while highlighting a text message will ask if you want to call the sender.
Pressing the right soft key will allow you to reply.
Regarding dos, did you check out PocketDos

What do you mean, what number the keys are? In relation to what? Settings > Personal > Buttons, or something else?

Doh!! Well that could be a bit better documented. I was looking for a context or menu option, along the lines of "call this number / contact".

I mean, every key has a corresponding map number doesn't it? For example, if you go to Start > Settings > Buttons, Button 1 is the message button on the top of the Hermes, Button 4 is the Camera button, etc. If this is the case, what button numbers are, for example, the keyboard cursor keys? Or the cap / shift key?
Also, the problem with PocketDos is, as far as I'm aware, it doesn't play any audio apart from emulating the PC Speaker. And you hhave to use plug in which take up loads of memory, leaving you nothing to actually run the games.
Yeah, I can't say I've ever used pocketdos, Dos disappeared quite some time back for me. I think it's the best we've got, but check out some of the emulation sites for specifics.
The keyboard map does have specific key codes, but they are not compatible with the Settings > Personal > Buttons buttons. I think we're stuck with the 5 or so default buttons, and additionally emulated hardware buttons using apps like AE Button Plus.
However, try an app like PQz which will allow you to use many of the keys on the keyboard.
V
Hi, just out of interest do you know what the specific key codes are? It is this list which I am after and which it may be possible to create a mapping for with DOS.

TellMeText FREEWARE (SMS read )

TellMeText intercepts incoming SMS (text) messages to your Windows Mobile device and reads them out to you before they go to your inbox. This can be really useful in situations where you have your phone but can't or don't want to physically touch it to read incoming messages. (For example, if you're driving a car or eating your lunch).
TellMeText can run in the background so it doesn't interfere with your normal use of the device.
The TextToSpeech functionality is provided by software from the Flite project.
TellMeText requires priviliged access to your device in order to intercept the SMS messages. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you download and install BlondieSoft's Windows Mobile Certificates first.

While this sounds cool I'm not so sure how great it would work for me. I don't know about everyone else but everyone that txts me writes in short hand. Hell its almost like a new language everything is short hand to fit in as much as possible as fast as possible.
It would be interesting to see how that would be read.

Yeah, you gotta go to voice command options in personel then select messaging. click notifications then pick "announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset"( default seems to be using bluetooth handsfree. I tend to turn off "Password Protected" too but not sure if this is important or not. Will announce sms messages but not sure about e-mails, haven't really tried, maybe someone can experiment and post results. Cheers.
I don´t like the "crappy" synthesized voice...would be great to change pitch, speed, man or woman, etc.
Looks very interesting, thank you.
It would be great if we could run a command line to this program, like -on or -off, so I can make a shortcut on my Ultimate Launch. I only want this on when I'm in the car or something, and if I can easily turn it on and off with a single shortcut, that would make it very useful.

it should work as long as you uncheck the box for high priority messages only. MSVC will only read the subject on emails though.
I was using MSVC to read my texts, but because of my job title, felt it wouldn't be too professional to have it read a personal message out loud for everyone to hear. I did however have some fun seeing what it could read aloud. I.E.: the Oscar Meyer Weiner Song was hilarious to hear on it.

yes. No button mapping needed.. PTT button is a software button on program.
Likin it! Thanks Volt
I also can verify that it is working nicely, a few glitches to work out all in good time. I used HButton to remap the program so when minimized it comes up, then on my wizard I use the center on the d pad and hold while I talk then release. Just like nextel, bit slower but free, what can I say! You have to (sender and receiver) both be set up on the system to communicate but that doesn't take too long to get set up. Put the word out and we can all help work out the kinks so this system can run smoothly. Remeber before you lauch you must already be connected to the internet. Andason is also correct, if you leave it open then you would not have to do any mapping at all as the program uses the select button on your phone. If it is a different button on your phone it will not be difficult to find by trial and error. Remapping isn't that difficult and HButton is a free program, works great...................Later.
Hey Voltage?
Hey Voltage do you know how a person with a touch screen only (no hardware buttons) can utilize this great software. Is there an issue because of the lack of a default hardware button to access?

So just to verify, there is no cost involved in using "spoofapp" Right?
I use a spoof calling card (spoofcard.com). It's a great tool, but I'd love to have an app on my phone (it's inconvenient calling an 800#, entering my calling card number, entering my destination number, entering my desired caller id number, etc....). Do you know if I can enter my card details on this app, or do I have to buy their service?
EDIT: haha, awesome, it works with the spoofcard!

bluffmycall working
ok people it is up and running, at least on tmobile tp2 with stocked rom. it allows u to make a free two min. calls to any phone number and allows you to put a fake number on the caller id, home or land line will show the name too.
the program is on my sd card. the app itself isn't flashy, it is just a plain white screen, with places to put the numbers. the only problem is it say that the free version doesn't not allow recording or voice change which kinda sucks. but this one is free. spoof app allow voice changeing and recording, but cost $5 for 25credits. but when you sign up you get 6 free credits, then after those are going if you want to use it you must by credits
when I try it it says it is placing the call and to press ok if it's correct and cancel if it's wrong. Regardless of what I press it just goes back to the 'make call' screen.
for which one are you talking about? spoof app or bluff my calls?
i tried the bluff.cab program but its telling me that i must insert a calling code (011) or + or something similar to that...is there an easier way to use this or can someone help me figure out how to use this...thanks in advance

don't know about other phones or roms
