Hey
Not sure if this is even the right place to post this.
but i wanted to share a program I was recently introduced to.
Free PTT for any Windows mobile phone.
Works with;
mobile to mobile
mobile to pc
pc to pc
Uses wifi and data.
And it even chirps just like nextel
http://www.loudtalks.com/
Look for Lite
we have set up a support forum for this over at www.skinzone.org
and the support team at loudtalks is keeping an eye on it.
now this is still in beta, but works damn good for just beta.

Ya it has a bit of delay
Now heres the cool thing.
Say i send you a message, or 3 days ago i sent you a message.
click on the > next to the persons name and you can re listed to the message.
-----Very Nice------
works perfectly
Very cool, thanks for sharing!!
Does the person on the other end need LoudTalk loaded as well. Do you have to have a PTT button or can i map to another button.

yes. No button mapping needed.. PTT button is a software button on program.
Likin it! Thanks Volt
I also can verify that it is working nicely, a few glitches to work out all in good time. I used HButton to remap the program so when minimized it comes up, then on my wizard I use the center on the d pad and hold while I talk then release. Just like nextel, bit slower but free, what can I say! You have to (sender and receiver) both be set up on the system to communicate but that doesn't take too long to get set up. Put the word out and we can all help work out the kinks so this system can run smoothly. Remeber before you lauch you must already be connected to the internet. Andason is also correct, if you leave it open then you would not have to do any mapping at all as the program uses the select button on your phone. If it is a different button on your phone it will not be difficult to find by trial and error. Remapping isn't that difficult and HButton is a free program, works great...................Later.
Hey Voltage?
Hey Voltage do you know how a person with a touch screen only (no hardware buttons) can utilize this great software. Is there an issue because of the lack of a default hardware button to access?
hey wanted to just re-post that the developers are watching
http://www.skinzone.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31
to see what bugs, and suggestions there are.
I have been in contact with a great person their, and its my opinion that they want everyones feedback so that they can possibly add everyones needs.

Great application. Works on Wifi with obvious delay. It did work with the T-mobile proxy plan but was obviously slow and unusable.
What advantages does this give over Palringo which also does voice, pics and text.....
Is there a review somewhere?

I've been using PocketPC Phone Edition since the first XDA came out. Since then a lot of things has changed, devices gained more memory, became faster, smaller, adopted Bluetooth and WiFi. But one thing remain almost unchanged - phone dialer. It does serve the purpose, but a lot of things are missing and annoys avid cellphone user. You know what I am talking about
For me one of the biggest concern was absence of Calling Card support. I am communicating with our overseas officies couple of times a day on the regular basis and dialing all those numbers is really pain. So, while I was looking for calling card support add-on I came across this piece of software - MobiDial.
It's not a total phone dialer replacement, more like a shell for it. It does everyihng I want and excpect from a phone - calling card support, one hand operation, vibratouch, nice and clean interface.
Here how the main interface look like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
As you can see, all buttoms are big and nicely placed. Also, you can enable vibra option, so you can actually feel when buttom is pressed.
At the bottm you can see row of icons:
Settings, address book mode (see screenshot below), 4 strars represent speed dial windows where you can also assign pictures, and call log icon.
You can switch in between them by pressing jog left and right and scroll in address book mode by up and down.
As I've mentioned before, the biggest advantage for me is Calling Card support. Programm automaticaly dials International numbers without any users intervention. Actually, you can specify this in the settings: always use card, ask user and bever use it.
This is international call in progress:
Couple of things: current release version doesn't work correctly with Second Edition, but beta with SE support is available upon rewuest from developer. Also, first load takes about 5 sec, but then it pops up instantly, by the way, you can assign harware answer/hangup buttoms to MobiDial
You can try it for 14 days here:
http://www.mobidial.com/mD/
I've made a small video of using this software. DivX encoded, 950 KB.
Cheers

P.S. I've posted the same review on HW, I am using a different alias there
HI. I had same concern of yours for a while, and I got great help from your topic. However, I'm stil lmissing one feature: The caller groups, allowing you to assign a ringtone to every group or individual caller. Combined with the Sendrui pocketzenphone application, you might not even look at the screen to know when to answer whom. Any advice?
Thanks in advance, and hope I can be of any help one time.
It looks like a adverstisment more than a complain.

RingtoneX does this nicely. I have all my contacts filed under Categories in Outlook (like Family, Friends, VIP, Business, etc.). RingtoneX lets me assign ringtones to each individual or by category. It works perfectly. Since you can create any category name you want it makes it real easy. (Only thing I've noticed is it didn't like spaces in my category names like "Friends 1", so I changed my category name to Friends_1 and now it works great).
Anyways, it's only $7 for the software, and it works very well.
Phone software with voice dial functionality?
Can somebody sugest phone software with voice dial functionality?
especialy I will apriciate reference to software supporting voice dial via bluetooh handsfree...

Guys - another quick hack.
Still in beta subject to your reports.
All it does is shows the today screen for as long as you hold down the button it is assigned to.
So, install the cab; assign it to a hardware button in the control panel.
Press and hold that button and today screen should pop up (you'll see a little icon in the top left). Let go, and you should go back to where you were. Theory being, say you're in a call but want to look at your Today quickly. Pop in, pop out.
If you want to stay in the Today screen, just click on the little icon in the top left.
{

}
The cab will install two versions, normal and TodayButtonOFF.
TodayButtonOFF will cause the PocketPC to switch itself immediately off when you've finished looking at the today screen. This is so that you can assign a hardware key and use it to switch on the PPC, look at today screen, and immediately switch off when you're finished.
This version is still slightly flaky, but try it and see if it works.
Please report how it goes.
Do not launch it directly by stylus click in programs menu. If you do, it'll go to the Today screen but you'll lose your hardware buttons for 45 seconds, at which point it will reset the buttons. You can launch it by the action button as normal (hold it down).
I'm not sure how this works with program redefiners like buttonmax etc. Please report!

anyone tried this yet?
V
First of all, its a great tool!!!
The bad side -
I'm using AE Button plus. This enables, single-double-triple clicks for each button (rather its configurable). When I have this running in the background, it doesnt work...otherwise, it works great.
Besides, I dont think i can ever live without AEBP, as i've pretty much mapped everything to something or the other!!
Fix this, and i'm sure i'd be using it, its extremely handy!!!
Also, great work....i'm using the VJDialer and VJSms, and its an amazing little app!!!!
Best,
San
dreamtheater39 - thanks for the tip and feedback
I didn't think it would work with AE Button - I used to use it but have stopped using it recently (I might be writing my own version :wink
I think this tool is useful, but I think most of us use something like ButtonMax or AEButton, so it's a shame it doesn't work right now - I'll work on it!
Have you tried the poweroff version? That's quite a useful tool - use it to switch on the PPC, look at Today, and switch off again.
V
I did try the TodayToggleOFF as well...
Its very useful especially when on a phone conversation to check my calendar!!
I managed to get it working fine now....here's what i do...
I've disabled manipulation of my camera button by AEBP. I dont have multiple clicks for the camera button, but i have ToggleToday assigned which I find really realllyyy useful!!!
Thanks again!!
San
Good idea - didn't think of that!
I think this is a tool that I will actually use - I'm doing a few hacks to make the today screen more useful, so having quick and easy access to it helps I think.
V
Vijay, this app sounds like a great idea. I always go back to my today screen on a call.
I'll give it a whirl and let you know.
Is this program still available?
It sound promising
I would also like to give it a try...
Xadaa: I've updated my webpage with this app.
Sorry for the slow updates, I've got no XDA devs access at work Nightmare!
V
I've got this mapped to the camera button on my wizard, and i love this little app. It's been working without any problems for about two weeks now.
Thanks a lot for this program
My single problem is thatMy pjone doest turn on when I press the hard button I have assigned to TodayButtonOFF. It goes off when I release it and works great while i am pressing it.
Great software
Thanks. I have it assigned to my PTT button on my Tilt. Works great!!
Heres the cab again if anyone wants to try it.
Hi,
Is it possible to get an update for the Terminal Server Client so it can run on the Windows Server 2003.
/Jesper
You mean have W2K3 accessed via your HTC Universal? AFIAK it's always been possible. Indeed, I've been doing that since I bought my MDA Pro in the week of the UK launch about a year ago
You only need to adjust the settings on the Server to allow the Client Compatible enryption level as the WM2003/WM5 TS client does not support 128 bit encryption.
If want a good experience search out VJFSTSC from this site
(VJ's Full screen Terminal Server Client). A full 640x480 screen makes the Exec an excellent tool to administer servers without needing to cart a laptop around
I didn't think anyone was still using it! I'll have to update it when I get a few spare minutes!

yes i'm using it and have run into problems
somehow when i use full screen mode (it took ages to figure out i had to disable "limit server size to fit screen", if it was enabled your full screen hack didn't work), the last line at the bottom will not respond, i.e the taskbar, anything on it, and the start button. if i don't use your hack, no problems. (but no full screen either )
a friend's qtek 9000 doesn't have this problem with your hack.
do you have any ideas? :idea: thanks..
cmonex: you need to post in the VJFSTSC thread, but this was a bug with an earlier version, that should have been fixed in the latest version. I haven't worked on it for months and months due a perversly busy schedule, but I'll try to look into it further. It still needs lots of work.

FYI all, there has been a post that you can use a virtual screen manager with VJFSTSC to get >VGA screen resolutions, eg SVGA. It'll look quite crap, but it should work... but I think opening word (and Vista?) on your Universal is a cool way to make a gadget freak's mouth water.

YES PLEASE
I've found your little app to be one of the most useful apps for the Exec.
1024x768 shrunk to fit the screen is terrible but using a 800 x 600 @ 100% screen and virtual display's navigational options to scroll around has proved to be usefull from time to time.
When you get some time to update VJFSTSC I'd be glad to put forward a few suggestions but something that would be neat would be an ability to map a couple of buttons to CTRL & ALT but only whilst VJFSTSC is running

yes ctrl+alt would be very useful.

What do you guys mean about the ctrl+alt key combos? Give me an example.
V
As certain keys such as <CTRL> , <ALT> and maybe <Esc> are not found on the Exec but are used quite a bit on Windows it would be really usefull if these keys could be mapped to some of the physical keys such as the E-mail, Home Page, Contacts, Phone but only when VJFSTSC is active. Normally these buttons are assigned to their own functions but this behavior is overridden whilst VJFSTSC is active.
This could be taken a small step further by assigning the Windows key to open the START menu on the windows PC instead of the Exec and possibly using the Ok key to bring up a configuration menu in VJFSTSC with a few other options including the ability to save a config file so any settings such as show/hide SIP are retained the next time VJFSTSC is launched.
I better stop there, as I was intending to give an example of mapping options not a full blown wishlist
thanks, vijay555.
nice ideas, Taz69... would be real cool.
EDIT: UNDER DEVELOPEMENT AND WILL BE RELEASED WHEN READY! KEEP AN EYE ON THIS THREAD!!!!
Here's an idea... when you turn your phone off, it locks... when you turn it on, you must roll your thumb/finger to the right around the wheel of the diamond to unlock it...
as you wheel around, the white line around the circle begins to fill from the top, moving rightward around...
sorry for the poor image quality, i just threw it together as a thought.
I hope a developer can throw this together, prolly isn't hard at all and would really be cool for the diamond. Better graphics and glowing line ofcourse.
its simple and utilizes the unique hardware of the diamond, and also the pro.

anyone like?
anyone down to try and create it?
Wish i could, but i have no idea where to start. i'm in the dark here.
to clear up any confusion that may come up, the lights on the wheel itself don't need to light up as you wheel around... only the circle on the screen.
as you would pass a point on the wheel, another section of the ring on the screen would fill in.
Sounds like a good idea. Hope someone have the time to make it.
im sure that 'wheel-2-unlock' is one of the features of the TouchXperience ROM but it would take a long time for this rom to be released i guess.
TouchXperience is a ROM? Not just a cab installation?

CapacitiveFingerLock
I am working on such an idea already for a week or so:
CapacitiveFingerLock.
It will have another locking/unlocking mechanism on top of StylusLock, as described in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2681112&postcount=62
Because I am now on a business trip in America, I had not much time to work on the program. But I haven proven already that it works. I have to remove some stuff from the proven program, and integrate it with my already existing StylusLock. The goal is that it does NOT cost extra battery power and CPU and is really simple to use.
The reason to add this, is to have it possible to lock and unlock "one handed". The StylusLock approach cannot be done "one handed", e.g. on a bike. Also some people do not like to operate with the StylusLock. The combination with this new CapacitiveFingerLock and existing StylusLock will suit more people. And sometimes people will use the Stylus, so they will get the right behaviour depended on the usage.
Good idea, as I do not use any locks or such applications, but this one sounds nice. Just remember that this app should not conflict with, or somehow overcover and incomming call

Woohoo, I've been asking for such a thing for weeks now. Do you have a working version already?
That would be awesome.
Definitely MUCH MUCH better than SensorLock and all the - no need to mention - rest!
Especially because SensorLock is still buggy as hell!
Hello,
First of all, I hope am posting in the correct location. Anyways, in windows mobile, we receive different tooltips, ex: call summary report from the provider, credit report, and many others, the ones am talking about are the tooltips that appear on the top right corner of the screen.
These tooltips are so annoying since the buttons they carry are totally not finger friendly. After using "Yota Phone" on my HTC Touch Pro, i noticed that they mapped/changed the default tooltips with the title "PHONE" with their own nice finger friendly one.
Is there any program that does such a thing? searched a lot and couldn't find any. If nobody knows a program that does this, can someone tell me what are the commands/code of those functions/events? maybe i would do a small application for that one.
Thank you

Find me a cure, please doc?
This is an awesome idea!!! I too am suffering from sausage fingers syndrome
I'm not exactly sure how this could be done but I there is another application on XDA that changes the way our Context Menus look. He does is via dll injection and my guess is that that is how to do this also.
This would be awesome, I hate those little popups as well!!!! Maybe you could ask francarl (creator of FingerMenu), your idea sounds similar to what he did.

thank you m.schmidler. I was thinking about how to replace standard tooltip. It will be very useful if someone finds which is the Win32 API (if exists) that opens the tooltip!
I would totally use this! Anyone wanna pick this up?
Great to see you guys interested in this idea, but wish someone could actually implement it. If only creators of "Yota Phone" would reply. Since they successfully changed the "Phone" tooltip.
If only they share the knowledge. already posted a question regarding this matter on their thread, but no replies on that so far.
I will look into this as soon as I get some time. I'm working on wFacebook for now but as soon as I release a new version (hopefully by this weekend) i'll do some research and post my findings.
Add me to the list of the intrigued.
while you're at it, could you have a look at the default windows popups as well? you know, the ones with that incredibly tiny and impossible to hit ok thingy in the top right corner? even *with* a stylus it is annoyingly hard to press ok.
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/miscctrl/ToolTip_Class.aspx or http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/02/15/373120.aspx do there help any? I am not a programmer! so if they don't help at all!

If there are things that amaze me in pocket pc they are the following:
1. PPCs are more than 10 years old, and we still have THAT FEW RAM with SUCH SLOW PROCESSOR?
2. A message to Microsoft, WTF are you doing? We here at XDA can create a better OS with MUCH smarter tools and you as an enterprise suck that much in your own OS?
Hope we get a fix / program for the tooltip AND those middle confirmation messages, like the one that appears when you try to shut down the device. Buttons are non user friendly and still needs a stylus. Idiotic menus/tooltips.
Cheers
