qtek 9600 - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Looks sweet to me =)
http://mobilforum.se/articles/20060218/1995.html
the news are in swedish but you can figure out the specs from reading the text...
I like the Samsung S3C2442 300 MHz part and 2,1 megapixels =)

It's really quite scary how fast these things are being pumped out... I honestly fear that official support for a device bought a mere 6 months ago will be non-existant. Oh wait, I suppose we don't get much in the way of official support -now-, huh? :>
Anyway.. looks like a nice device - I still love the button layout and design of the 9100.. looks like they fell back to their 'old' design for this one. Still no ctrl/alt on the slide-out keyboard, that's kinda silly.
I hope Qtek fixed the typo on the front camera, though :> ( Note: it reads "Vedio" in the official HTC Hermes press images. oops. )

Can anybody tell me the performance differences between SAMSUNG and INTEL CPU?

Looks good apart from inclusion of MICROSD slot. Why oh why another format - just invested in 2GB minisd. Please HTC change your mind then i will be interested otherwise stick with my wizard.
I know the above referred article says minisd but most of the other articles on the hermes say microsd - see coolsmartphone
and engadget

MicroSD because it's even smaller - means they have more space for other hardware / they can make the device smaller. Not that they have to be particularly smaller for me.. a bit thinner would be nice

Seem's like they have putted on a jogDial(SE P910) on the side instad of volume control Very very nice!!
The new design was however a bit boring.
Jack

I am excited to see how this device performs, may even have to pick one up if I have the extra cash. I also just read that on the horizon is the HTC Herald which has a similar form factor as the Wizard but at 18mm thick it is 21% slimmer. Can't wait to see the stats on that one....maybe a microminiSD.
Alex

More pics of the hermes!
 8)

More extensive review of the hermes here - looks good. Will be the wizard replacement i think. I want one!
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/5011.html

Supposedly the UMTS is not compatible with US 3G networks.
Next.

A comparison of the wizard and hermes here.
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/03/11/live-from-cebit-htc-wizard-vs-htc-hermes/
Note the hermes does not have stereo speakers like the wizard and the hermes has the microsd slot which currently microsd cards have a max capacity of 512 mb. Most of the new
models by htc have microsd slots - this is worrying concerning future upgrades with low capacity memory capability.
Long live the wizard!

A new review of the probable successor/upgrade to the wizard here - htc hermes (sorry its in french)
http://www.mobinaute.com/mobinaute/article.php?id=20060317145418
Looks like final version may have samsung or intel 400mhz processor - looks promising

microSD and UMTS that isn't supported in the US, i'll pass

Maybe darkjedi will prefer the HTC trinity - seems your style rather cool and dark
HTC Trinity is following the idea of a non-keyboard HTC Magician, it will have Intel processor and support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS and HSDPA standard

but does it support US UMTS?

The Qtek 9600 Pocket PC is the second device from Qtek offering third generation mobile phone technologies. The unit will have Wideband CDMA; the technology created from a fusion of proposals to act as the European entrant for the ITU IMT-2000 family.
The Qtek 9600 will have a QWERTY slide out keyboard for easy data input on the move. It will run Windows mobile 5.0 and has a 2.1 mega pixel comera on the front. This supurb communications devise offer the speed required to make mobile emailing and data downloading a pleasure. The Qtek 9600 includes all the features you would expect, like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 2.1 Megapixel camera with flash, a video camera, 300Mhz CPU, 320 x 240 QVGA screen from a high end devise.
Question is will this replace the wizard? Or I had heard rumors of another replacement - keep you posted.

I don't know, I might skip this round and wait on some more detials about the Herald which is supposed to be thinner than the Wizard or Hermes and same slide out keyboard.
A

Cingular's plans are to skip UMTS and roll out HSPDA. I believe the Hermes supports this as well.

thats hsdpa

though meschle's device is overclocked, so he does have a HSPDA

O2 did a better job this time by annoucing the XDA IIs with a higher CPU speed using X-scale 512 MHz ... the rest of specs are the same of original HTS Blueangel H/W
P.S: I personally love the code IIs and IIi than III ... I believe the new devices is not up to the III wish list yet
Well, I was searching for good prices for the XDA II in the UK and then I discovered that the XDA IIi and IIs will be released soon-the IIs being released on the 1st of November which is exactly a month from today.
This led me to beleive that there would be a price drop for the XDA II so I chose to wait the month.
Then I stumbled upon this MDA compact.
http://www.i4u.com/article2125.html
Now this device comes with a 1.3 Megapixel camera(was never impressed by the XDA II camera), 416Mhz processor and should be released in Germany by Mid-November.
So my new intention is to get this when it's released (it shoukd cost 200 euros with a contract).
Can I unlock it for my UK 02 sim card?
Can I change the language from German to English?

Hi Lumpi ! how are U ? Long time I don't came here!
can i have some information (in pvt) on how to cook the roms in local ?? (so I can add my favorite apps)
Anyway ... i passed 2 days ago from ppc2002 to wm2003... and can say that is very better !!
anyway..
the new MDa-compact isn't bad... but it will cost 700€ !! For that price is far better spend 150€ more and have the MDA3... i love that phone... maybe it should be my next one (when the price get down 8) ), or i can think on a used MD2 + a fordable keyboard (or the laser one, it cost only 60$ !!) and save about 300-350€ !!
Apart from the fact I'll buy the Magician anyway as it perfectly fits all my needs, observing its PCB image I noticed that it hasn't the ATI Imageon chip.
Carrier Devices however defines also this PDAPhone as a "Gaming Console". Someone knows what's Magician video adapter and if it'll be able to run the last PocketPC Games smoothly?

I believe this chip doesn't help much for the game speed, since XDA1 run most PocketPC games in an acceptable speed already.
What I really concern is the ram size.. I want 128M ram.

Performance gains with TyTn

The HTC TyTn (Orange M3100) will have a 400 Mhz processor. Does this mean that the whole system will operate considerably faster than the Wizard / Prophet, or is the 200 Mhz leap not as massive as it appears (different processor manufacturers)?
I love my Wizard, but it is quite sluggish sometimes and that really is my only criticism. (When sliding the keyboard, the rotating of the screen is really lethargic.)
Cheers
It all depends. I'm not sure on the processor in the Hermes, but it will make a major difference if its a dual-core design like the Wizard running at 400 Mhz versus a single core.
I trust HTC, and its definitely a worthy successor to the Wizard.
Hopefully there will be a way to overclock the Hermes, if it does run a bit poky.
Got my Tytn!
Hey Folks!
On the last weekend, I 've got my Tytn! In Germany it's the O2 Trion. My father has the Wizard and I have to say, that the Tytn is up to 4 times faster then the Wizard.
The 400 Mhz Samsung Prozessor is the fastest Prozessor I 've ever seen on a Windows Mobile Phone!
Bring on the M3100
Well, come on Orange, launch the M3100!!
the M3100 seems to be a different beast http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=138474&tab=1

Well, it's kind a hard to explain. Because you know, the first days you will use the device a little bit more as usual. The Battery has lost 45 % of Power after 3 days with factory charge. And I don't have a Storagecard yet. I don't use Direct Push, but use the WLAN module with full power. I also took some pictures with 2 MPixel. HTC has still not the quality of Nokia Phone Cameras but a Macro function integrated.
I only have one Problem so far. The Tytn loses the display calibration 3 times a day.
expansys has a completely different unit! I like the unwired picture best cosmetics of the Tytn so far me thinks....[/quote]
xdaer/Facedanzr: I was at the Modaco meeting. I have to say, the Hermes (or "Herpes" as it was lovingly called by everyone) is a great device - better build quality and feels more compact then the Wizard, but great spec, nice keyboard, wifi etc, 3G - squeeze in a VGA screen and it'd be pretty much perfect. It felt "adequately" fast to me; faster then the Wizard certainly, but I use a Mio A701 and Magician, so I'm used to fast.
A nice device, it'll do very well I'm sure.
However, I have to say, the Samsung was an amazing beast

@MrMarioG:
That's good news on the battery... sounds like it may be close to if not better than a wizard. Keep us posted plz as you get a better feel for it!
That's bad news about your digitizer tho.... hopefully its just a bad TyTN and not an indication of some inherent pblm...

fyi.. this is NOT the TyTN.. this is the O2 Xion XDA.
Same stuff under the hood yes.. but different casing and the keyboard is german, not english style.
Mario could you tell us how low UMTS signal is?
hmmm... at least AKU2.2. Note the clock in the title bar (its not AKU1 btw because this phone is advertised as being Direct Push capable). Could you give us a quick screenshot of the version tab in settings/about please? Also, what are your IPL/SPL revision numbers?
I bored of taking some pictures again!
But I can say, that I have the Aku 2.3 on my device. So says the Device Info in the Settings Menu!
@El_Mar1ach1
What do you meen with "how low UMTS signal is"? It depends on the location. Sometimes I have 3 bars and sometimes I don't have any UMTS Signal!
Maybe I can tell you on September what signal strength I have in Italy on Vodaphone, when I visit my italian aunt!
I'm jealous too... i'm gonna grab one probably in mid august. i like the HERM200 more than the HERM100(pictured in previous) and of what i know so far cingulars gonna be carrying the HERM100 so that means i have to start getting ready to fork over $900 for this beast!

As I could tell, the only thing that is a step back from the Uni is:
Smaller screen
No GPS (although there's an inline headphone GPS version, from what I can tell, without replaceable headset)
Memory Stick =/
However, it does have features that set it apart from the Uni:
800x480 VGA screen. Widescreen, not 4x3 like the Uni's 640x480 display.
Slider (not clamshell). This depends on your preference, but for me I like to see who's calling without having to open the phone up
Optical joystick - this is really awesome. You just slide your finger on it and it guides and onscreen pointer. I've gotta see this.
Headsets have an inline media control accessory. I haven't really found one that works with the Uni.
Camera is 3.2 mp.
Bluetooth 2.0/ADCP by default. Assuming this won't be buggy.
Wifi G - nuff said.
Assuming better battery life.
Smaller. I guess this could be a benefit depending on your opinion on the size of the Uni.
No wonder Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 is so good: HTC makes it
please be advised there is some posts about sonyericsson x1 on off topic thread and ,.....
and i think you should to know: this device will be MANUFACTURED by HTC
the X1 is all HTC-built
http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/10/no-wonder-sony-ericssons-xperia-x1-is-so-good-htc-makes-it/
it seems there is no further than HTC
It also has a-GPS
I think it looks the dogs danglies, I don't care who makes it. Just look at that screen (dribble dribble)
That damned Sony Memory Stick is the only thing holding it back (I so hate Sony's proprietary garbage). But if it lives up to its promises...I guess that'll be forgiveable!
Hi,
we heard it through the grapevine that the X1 is all HTC-built....
This is what engadget wrote . But i also think it is true. All these htc devices all around....
I think HTC is some kind of reference for the mobile market.
Although some things very crappy in the past
So from my point of view the X1 is really nice device. I noticed it a few days before and of course there's GPS inside.
Although the sliding mechanism looks very comfortable.
The Uni is very universal but in fact it is too big, to use it as a real phone or take it everywhere anytime. At least this is what i do at the moment
The Kaiser is also a good mixture for an everyday device
Maybe the X1 will do it even a bit more better.
But first let's rip off the memory stick interface and integrate SD cards....
scholbert
Sony does make some damn fine electronics, but their customer support is lousy. But the phone looks good, memory sticks suck and the last I checked don't have anything over 4GIGS the touch interface looks neat, and if the keyboard is anything like my old UX then it will be a great keyboard my only concern will be Sony's support of the product.
So basically it is the same thing as the Toshiba except for the video call is that correct?
GSM arena has it with a micro SD slot so it will be interexting to see what it actually has when its released. I like the security of the Clamshell design of the Uni but i might be drawn away by the X1 if its all that it states....
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_xperia_x1-2246.php
If Sony is reading this I hope to god they:
Use STANDARD SD size so we can store large amounts of data, to be comperable to iPhone
Include GPS so we can use tracking apps that are becoming commonplace
Both pdadb.net confirms the microSD and Sony's own site confirms the GPS

My only worry is the weird proprietry connector it has for USB - although it looks like a miniUSB cable could plug into it (hopefully its just htc's ExtUSB)

iPhone 3gs or samsung omnia pro it is then...
they better not ask 750 bucks for it out the door.. not with the same outdated procesor... ****in milkin it for all she's worth.... i smell a boycott... <disgrunted se customer
omg... i don't want it... the screen 3.2" is still too small (for me)... and why don't i buy the prettier X1 but the uglier & (likely to be) more expensive X2 ???
i thought it looked quite nice.lol. can never tell from just pictures anyway. ill reserve judgement for when i see one in the flesh. id imagine its like when they went from the p900 to p910. where they didnt really change the specs much but improved on a lot of the bugs and usuability. im hoping they sorted the keyboard issue and the terrible reception...
I thought it looked nice. The camera is better, and what does it for me is the fact that it gains tv-out.
Where does it say it is using the same processor?

looks like much more solid than the x1, also its got a flush screen and the led has moved to the top rather than 2 on each side which is dissapointing. was hoping they had kept the illuminations and mayb added a user editor this time around.
very nice user interface but i wouldnt be surprised if someone manages to figure out a way to flash it to the X1
dont like the sound of this though..
"It comes with a 4GB microSD card (Sony Ericsson has clearly given up on M2) and will ship in October, likely when the first Windows Mobile 6.5 devices appear, exclusively with Vodafone in the UK. "

I wish our great cookers gonna steal some stuff from x2 like PanelManager and some new panels. On second video we can see that performance is quite bad, normal honeycomb menu is very choppy. I think it's waste of money when the same stuff we can have on our x1

im not gona hold my breath for an october release but i hope its out before christmas. one advantage to it using quite a bit of the same tech as the X1 is that sony should be able to release it much quicker than the X1.

Hopefully, as an affordable alternative to the more expensive android phones, this phone (San Francisco/Blade) will have a large following. I for one, as an ex HTC Hero owner, have been impressed so far by it's capabilities, and would like to find out more and more and more.
I hope some day we will have our sub forum for SF/blade. Praying to god
As Future Owner i say Yes..
I say yes too!
Has 512MB RAM, too.
I talked my daughter into buying one and she's really impressed - Screen looks as impressive as my Desire (only 0.2" smaller but still OLED) The phone works well. A little laggy and you have to turn down the FPS on most live wallpapers (mario especially). Its a cracking little phone - £99 and you get gps, wifi, hsdpa, OLED, Android 2.1, proximity sensor, g sensors and a light sensor!
Another well known forum has already released custom firmware for it too and it only costs $4 to unlock to any network too....
As a budget phone - theres nothing out there that comes even close at that price... I imagine the ZTE Blade / Orange San Francisco to be one of the better selling phones of Q4 2010...
Heck - I'm tempted to get one for my youngest daughter but the wife says she's too young for a phone (she's 6)...
Oh - the internal memory - although its quoted as 150mb, my daughter kills all apps and gets 238mb available - and she's still got loads of orange junk on hers (until i flash it for her)
It is reported elsewhere as having 512mb internal memory...
If I can get my hands on one - hell yes
Please make a section for this, i think its going to be a big seller and very popular.
great phone +1
I'm also thinking about purchasing one of these in the future. A forum for this phone would be great, especially if people start cooking new roms. May be time to switch from WM6.5. Old wizard and Hermes are getting a bit tired.

Here: nckcodes.co.uk/product.php?id_product=37 (I can't add real links, I'm a n00b )
It says it's for a Bluebelt but the code is the same for the ZTE Blade. It has been tested succesfully by dozens of people at MoDaCo.
Yes i would say it deserves its own space as ive just bought one today for my wife (cheaper than desire (which I have ) smaller and will do everything she needs
Yes Absolutely.
This is a budget phone. whoever want to custom or learn to custom ROM android could start from here.
I think it should has own space.
Oh the Blade so deserves its own forum on XDA ...please!
Oh yes please. The Blade provides such an excellent upgrade path from the G1...
Yes to its own forum.
