Hi All, This may be one of those stupid questions....it probably is
I've just ordered my xda exec after many happy years service from my iPAQ h5550 and previous to that h3970... That was easy, all the software I had bought worked fine on the swap......now having already ordered my xda exec.....it suddenly occurs to me....will any of my software, particularly tom tom 3 gps, work with the xda....... DOH !!!
Many Thanks
Tim
Check out the following link, it is fairly helpful.

Also, there are some real good posts on this forum, simply search.......
Tomtom 3 won't work so you will need to upgrade to version 5, unfortunately Tomtom withdrew their special upgrade offer just before they announced it was compatible with WM5. The upgrade special should be re-introduced in Q2.

Hi
I have an XDA for over a year and am very happy and impressed with it.
I am looking forward to the new XDA II and am almost certainly going to get one. Before I fork out for one I have considered buying a Sony Ericsson P800 which has similar functionality.
I know the XDA II runs on WMPPC 2003 and the P800 runs on the symbian platform, but this doesnt mean a lot to me.
Could anyone suggest in suer terms the differences and dis / advantages of one device over the other.
Thaks for your time if you can help !
Cheers
Ric
For my 2 cents worth.........the XDA is compatable with a plethora of software across the spectrum, games, comms, databases, etc etc, the amount of freeware for the ppc platform is staggering. If you use your machine for the inbuilt functionality then it makes no difference, but I use mine for allsorts, including GPS navigation, it cost a very small amount to add the hardware and the software is freely available or very cheap. Also with the launch of the XDA2 it usually follows that the XDA1 will come down in price. I just bought a new XDA, boxed immaculate for £150, now that is value. You may have noticed, I admire this little machine greatly, I also admire the people that are able to add usability and value to it by sheer determination coupled with amazing technical know how. If the manufacturer of the XDA teamed up with the XDA developers we would see something special.
One of my friends bought a P800 and had loads of probs with it. They replaced the unit a couple of times and then he sent it back and replaced it with an IPAQ and a bluetooth phone combi.
I have both the XDA and the p800. Let me start by saying that the XDA wins without a doubt.
If you are looking for a phone with some PDA functions, then go for the p800. If you use your pda alot, the XDA is for you.
I found the p800 to be too slow as a PDA. Using downloaded apps are problematic, and of course, the amount of software available is limited when compared to pocketpc.
Crusin Thru, SPS and XDA Rocks,
Thanks for takin the time to reply. As you are unanimous in your opinions you have convinced me.
The XDA II it is !
You can preorder them from a number of online suppliers, but my favourite is www.expansys.com. Great site with excellent info and Customer service.
Once again thanks for you input
Cheers Ric.
PS Perhaps as expected at this site.............Nobody thought the P800 was the best!

...and more and more...
I don't know about this one. HTC Should be able to get a new PocketPC Phone Edition device for 2005. However, I wonder if we'd ever be able to get our hands on this device...
Quand band is a must for NA.
VGA should have been included with te Himalaya.
Anyway, let's hope that HTC will get this device on the market in time, at a reasonnable price.
Talking about the price I think it could be embarrassing to see the XDA IV on the market only few month after you bought version III...! :?
Rumors said that XDA IV should have UMTS capabilities, and this skill could be interesting in Italy. At present we have one phone company offering this kind of service, but in a short time they should become three.
I think the XDA 4 is for "3" and the XDA 2 is not! I dont realy want a "3" phone, so I look at them as two different products.

Yeah, but it also says it's going to be quad band GSM, which is pretty relevant these days for international travellers.
It is real
MDA4 is real, because announced MDA3 is not made by HTC (as MDA1 and MDA2). T-Mobile ordered this piece of hardware somewhere in China and labelled it as MDA3, but it has nothing in common with maker of MDA1 and MDA2. T-Mobile did it just because he needed a response to Motorola MPx (WindowsMobile Communicator with the keyboard and WiFi). It't just a temporary solution - the real successor of MDA2 will be the MDA4 made by HTC again.
That makes more sence!
would be too much to ask them to include a built-in IR beamer for virtual keyboard ??
The idea of having many built-ins looks apealing, but I personally prefer many interfaces (SDIO, CF, ... etc) for accessories that should allow you to get the latest models without the need to get a new device.
I'm confident as well that the day will come when we can replace the CPU and add RAM as we do with the current PCs

is it the official info :?:
Looking at the specification would I be correct in thinking the new XDA II is almost indentical hardware to the original XDA II?
If so it should be possible to upgrade the XDA II to Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition with the XDA IIs new firmware ? ?
Or am I missing something?
Well it's similar but not identical, slide out keyboard, built-in WLAN etc. Having said all that, Tekguru are hinting that there will be an announcement sometime this weekend that will be of interest to current XDAII owners, I have all my fingers crossed that it is the prayed for WM2003SE upgrade
Yep I've been watching the Tekguru site re the announcement...
It seems like we've meet on the dark side ....
Duncan
LOL! Now how was I too know from that Forum Name! Well let's 'all' keep our fingers crossed, besides I need a ROM update as it must be almost a week since I last hard reset Oh and if you need any more X-Type mounts let me know, chopping mine in for a Disco next month.
Why not a CHEAP XDAII -> IIs upgrade plan
i read the specs of the XDAIIs and it says that it incorporates the widcomm BT drivers already. maybe some can extract this so we can have a working version on our XDAII.
I have tomtom3 navigagator bluetooth that i used with my ipaq 2210... i tried to install the software on my xda minis but didnt seem to want to play ball....any clues??
Gaz.
Although probably not helpful you should consider upgrading your software. With TomTom3 you'll most likely end up in a lake if you trust upon it (maps are way too old by now).
Anyone have any comments based on experience with TomTom 6 and ALK's CoPilot 7
http://www.alk.com/press/releases/pr_021207.asp
Thanks for your comments.
I used CoPilot 6 before my x7500 arrived with TomTom. I like TomTom better.
Probably won't have a chance to use CoPilot 7 unless I get it as an upgrade for my girlfriends Universal, where I've not installed CoPilot 6. If I upgrade, which I may, I'll post the results.
CoPilot Live | Pocket PC 7 is out in 2 weeks.
This is vaguely relevant but I coulnd't find a better place to put it. According to CoPilot sales rep, it will be out within the next 2 weeks. They are taking pre-order now.

Thank you for your interest in CoPilot products. To reserve your upgrade to version 7 please call the number listed below. It will be released within the next two weeks. We are taking pre orders right now.

There is no comparison between CP6 and 7.
7 is so much better and IMHO much better than TT
Due to NDA I cant say much but I believ e it's worth waiting for but 2 weeks? I think that's a bit ambitious.
It is now released http://www.alk.com/copilot/

Before I order, does anyone know if it is compatible with RealVGA in 96dpi mode?
Allegedly Copilot 6 Live is VGA compatible according to Alk website, but it doesn't work well on my PK3.0 flashed device. The map sort of works, but all the status information at the bottom of the screen is missing, and the menus are hard to follow.
It's marginally better if you install from CD rather than from the microsd card, but it still isn't fully functional.

I'll answer my own question - It's miles better. VGA mode actually works now.
There is currently a problem for me using the Live features, but ALK are aware of them and are working on them.
There was also a problem for me that I had bought a 2 year traffic subscription through T-Mobile and neither T-Mobile nor ALK would initially accept ownership of making this work. Initially ALK said that they saw no reason why they should honour the traffic subscription on CoPilot7 when it was originally bought for CoPilot6 from ALK through T-Mobile. However, as a gesture of goodwill they agreed to give me a half price upgrade on the traffic subscription.
The improvements are such that I think this is worth it.
internet access?
Does co-pilot 7 require internet/data access?
as far as i understand, tomtom6 you have preloaded maps on your sd card....does co-pilot work the same way?
copilot on experia x1
ive got copilot 7 running on sony experia X1, tried tomtom 7 on it and really didnt like the look of tomtom so in my opinion copilot wins hands down..... and oh, to get either tomtom or copilot to work flawlessly you need to disable assisted GPS............
Too bad they gave up Text To Speech on version 7! Otherwise, it would have been the best Navigation software ever! I am not surprised though. "We aim for mediocrity" is the common slogan for American businesses nowadays.
