Enable Indicator not activated - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi
I've done the registry tweak explained in this forum to activate Wifi b/g and Enable Indicator (so that you know whether you're in caps mode or not while in ladscape mode).
It used to work fine until I upgraded to the latest TMobile UK Vario ROM.
Whatever I do in the registry (i.e. =1 or =0 in the EnableIndicator DWORD in the registry), the indicator does not appear. I've got the keyboard indicator (if you tap on it, the keyboard will appear) but there is no symbol for the indicator.
Has anybody got a clue as to why it happens, and what I can do to have it back?
Thanks

GPRS 'G' no longer there after O2 Update...

Mmmm - just noticed this one...
My little square G for GPRS symbol no longer STAYS on the status bar at the top.
It appears as I soft reset, and find a network, but then disapears.
If I click my signal bar gauge however, the G symbol is shown there.
I know they have changed the Signal Status notification box to list Airline mode now, instead of Wireless off...
So is this another new change, or are the rest of you getting the G to stay on?
I ask, because I actually use my XDA2 on Orange UK, unlocked, but before the Upgrade last night, I still got a solid G stay on with Orange.
Thoughts or comments anyone?
I've actually never seen the "G" stay on the bar with mine, and have been thru several different roms, Qtek, I-mate, T-mobile.
It does exactly as you describe. Personally I don't need to see it all the time.
me too, ever since it never stayed on just popped up to indicate that you've connected to gprs but goes away after a while (started with a 1.52.00 rom)
Same goes for me. I always see the G appear at a start up but never have had the G remain on the screen for more than a few seconds.
On my unit after the Aisa update I can confirm the change in wording to "Turn on flight mode" from "Turn wireless off"
Ed
Aha...
I guess I have already sussed it, but can you guys confirm what type of devices and ROM's you had/have.
As i am certain as can be that my XDA2 USED to keep the G symbol on permanent, just like my SmartPhone Orange E200 does now.
But now, after the new UK ROM update, it doesn't stay on.
Now that I know this is by design, and that the initial appearance is to assure you you have a GPRS signal, and that you can check it any time by tapping on the signla bar, I have to say i much prefer this new method of informing you.
I just wanted to check it wasn't an error first - but I can happily send and receive MMS so it must be working fine.
my xda1 with 2002(org rom) dident keep the icon
my xda1 with 2003 dident keep the icon
and my
xda2 (qtek2020)(org rom) dont keep the icon

WLAN G in all Wizards - It works!

Hi,
I just found out a way how to activate WLAN G Mode for a Wizard. I tested it with my German T-Mobile MDA Vario. I wrote a little programm that both activates WLAN G and does some performancetweaks that truly speed up work with the wizard. It also enables the keyboard capnotifier.
Take a look here: http://www.ppc-welt.info/community/showthread.php?p=646568&posted=1#post646568
Any chance of you posting a link and some specifics here in english?
Thanks!
Just put the below file on your Wizard and execute it on it. There you are!
EDIT: I forgot to mention that you have to reset the device for the changes to take effect. The safest way to do so is to hold the standby button until he asks you to shut off. Then switch it on again by holding one more time.
has anyone tried this on a dopod 838?
IT WORKS!!!!
I tried it on my QTEk 9100 - ran this cab and then changed my home AP to 11g only mode. and - voila - it connected and allowed me to surf!!!
doesn`t work for me
i am using o2 xda mini s with a linksys wgkpc354g modem/router,it can see g connection after program is installed but will not connect.switch back to mixed and its connected.?
any ideas?
Could you send me a copy of your registry?
no need djvw its sorted
soft reset after install did the trick!
dont know if it speeds things up yet but at least it connects.
thankyou.
Interesting
Anybody else tried it?
I'd like the know if the speed up claim is true, I guess trying it for myself would be the most obvious test.

i did try it & it does really speed up the device. i mainly got it for the speed up actually, i don't connect to any wireless here, & so far it's really a good boost to the device speed.
cheers.
ok ok how did you do it?
Speeded up my MDA Vario beautifuly!!
not sure about the G wifi, how would i know if its connected at g?
i think it has worked though becasue the speed it connected at is not longer 11Mbps its now 22Mbps.
seriously what did you do to speed this thing up?
Help. I used this cab and I can see my wifi access point and It wont connect. I did a hard reset and it connects fine without the new cab installed.
I have a belkin adsl router ( which has g and is in mixed mode )
Anyone else got this problem ?
It is basically a cab that holde few registry changes
one to stop menu animation
one for (2 keys) to enable G
one (3 keys) to set a (small 1K) cache
and one to enbale the keyboard indicator
Arnon
ah of course menu animation!
nice hack though, definatly recomended.
Here are the reg keys for G
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
All values are decimal
The secret is not kept any more:
HKLM/Comm/TNETWLN1/Parms/
dot11SupportedRateMask=1
dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
Have Fun.
Thanx djvw, you are great.
Cool thanks. Phones a bit faster and 11g works! Rockin!

GPRS Auto disconnect & Phone band selector

I've recently updated my Rom with Radio 1.04 on my Alpine, and noticed improvement in stability and speed, but few things missing:-
1. GPRS disconnect button, solved this with a registry hack found somewhere here;
2. Auto disconnect GPRS after receiving / sending MMS, searched through the forum, found the registry hack to set AutoDisconnect to 1 but didnt work, didnt even change it, it was set to 1 in the first place, anyone can help?
3. My phone band selector is missing, there used to be a selector for phone band, my phone is working fine, just wondering where it gone to?
Thanks all!

GPRS / EDGE Icon

Hello,
Does someone noticed about gprs or edge icon in htc wizard.
When the edge icon is disabled ( i.e In default settings ). It shows G Icon at the top of screen, that is normal. BUT when we press the power button at the top of the device and press it again, The device wakes-up. But the G icon changes to E icon and resets after softreset ( i.e G icon )
Points:
1. G icon changes to E icon when we wakeup the device!
2. Only After softreset it goes to normal. i.e G icon but same probem after wakeup!
I tried all the roms in this site but same problem. Also changed the radio rom.
Please someone check this in your phone
Many Thanks
Srikanth.K
The GPRS / EDGE Icon 'E' or 'G' changes according to the service available in the area of use.If the Edge sevice is available in some area,it'll automatically change to 'E',otherwise,it'll remain 'G' as default.

Hello,
Ok, but why the icon should change only after I wakeup the device.
Another thing I noticed that:
When I connect to internet via GPRS but it shows as connected to EDGE in brackets when I click on that E icon. I do not have any EDGE connections only GPRS!
Thanks for reply

GPRS icon not visable after wakeup
Hello.
No reply
Just uploaded some screenshots...
After I start/boot my htc wizard it will be like G icon in top of the bar ( i.e screenshot_1 )
After I press power button the device will go to sleep mode and again I press the some button ( i.e power ) the device will wakeup. but the G icon will be conveted to E icon ( i.e screenshot_2 ) that's the problem.
Another thing I noticed that:
I connected to internet ( i.e GPRS ) before going to sleep mode and I clicked on that G icon and it showed as "connected to GPRS). But when it goes to sleep mode and when I waked it and the icon has changed to E icon. And again I clicked on that E icon and it showed "connected to EDGE" instead of showing GPRS.
I have disabled the "EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon" setting in registry. Plz you also disable this before you test the my problem.
Plz anyone check it and tell me.
Many thanks

GPRS/EDGE is the same thing. gprs is a slower network than edge. it still comes from the same provider. If you notice, in a city you will have EDGE almost always, while in some parts of the country you only have GPRS because they have no need to update towers.
as far as the wizard is concerned I do not believe it is capable of 3G so it will only get EDGE/GPRS.
I tried to use a sim card from ATT but it did not get 3G speeds. My friends phone is also not 3G capable even though it came from ATT.
I'm not sure what your concern is. if you have E vs G it means there is a better network around, but it still comes from the same carrier.
Gprs / Edge
Thanks...
By-the-way. I edited the operator name and given it as cingular. But the my default operator is cellone.
My sim is of BSNL not the at&t.
My problem is that why the icon should change when the mobile goes to sleep mode. After wakeup the icon will be changed ( i.e E icon ) and also my connection details will be changed ( i.e GPRS to EDGE ). This problem only occors upon going to sleep mode and after wakeup.
I tryed all the wm6 and wm6.1 roms in this webiste, all have same thing. But this problem will not occors in WM5. The icon will be G and will not change upon Sleep mode/wakeup.
This problem is only with WM6 & WM6.1.
Many thanks
Srikanth
thats weird.
I sometimes get pissed when im otside of a city and it turns to G. then I feel like I'm in the boonies.
I never saw the issue you are describing. maybe it is your network.
Gprs / Edge
Hi,
OK. I will try with other networks/sim cards.
Many Thanks.

Gprs / Edge
Hello,
OK DONE.
Now the E icon is stable/visible after startup and also at wakeup.
What I did is:
1. Enabled the "EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon" setting in registry.
2. I Downloaded and installed the GB-SOFT GPRS Tweak app.
3. Opened the software and there was 6 tweaks in page.
4. I ticked on the "Search GPRS [G-E-3G] on start radio" box & rebooted.
5. Now: At the startup of my device, the G icon will not display and only the E icon.
6. And also will not change after wakeup ( Thats stable ).
Ok, now the E icon is stable. So I edited the "EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon" and given it as 0 to disable it ( i.e To show G icon instead of showing E. )
But without luck. The problem rised again.
I think that, this problem is due to RADIO ROM.
I Tested some of other radio roms also but had no luck. Today morning I also flashed to WM5 offical rom but there is now problem with it ( i.e GPRS Icon is stable ).
Do you know which RADIO Roms is the best and fixes my problem.
I tested these 4 Radio Roms:
1. 02.07.10
2. 02.71.11
3. 02.37.11
4. 02.47.11
Many thanks
Srikanth.K
Try these both, they are considered to be the most stable and with good radio signals :-
Radio Rom 2.19.11
Radio Rom 2.69.11
Same problem
Hello
Tryed these radio rom also as you given but have same problem.
I think that the GPRS will search only when wake up but not at the startup of the device.
May be, there are some tweaks in registry that can be made to search the GPRS on startup of the device or an startup app.
Do anyone know that, GPRS and EDGE are the same sevice or thay are different?
Does anyone know that, any software/app that show where I am ( i.e Network Name, Name of area & etc )?
Many Thanks

Hide or Remove GPRS / EDGE Icon?

First post, bit of a lurker here. Just upgraded my XDA2 after (how long?).
So, got the touch HD. And I find it has a [E] or an [H] on the taskbar. I've checked previous posts, and the GPRS is disabled, but I really really dislike the icon being there. The XDA2 didn't have it there, although it also supported GPRS. Is there a reg hack, or a tweak, something I can do to hide the icon? I don't care about the connection, its the icon that's bugging me....?
Or is it that I'm asking the wrong question? Is it the case that if I can see the [G] icon, I must be connected to gprs, and so to hide the icon I just need to kill that connection (something i thought I'd already done)?
The G/E/H/3G icon just shows you what is available, doesn't mean you're connected.
It is possible, i had a taskbar on the diamond, called ahen by sunnyin that had no G/3G/H icon
Not 100% sure on this one, but I don't think you can actually get rid of the icon as that is a WM feature to show you what is available (if you're connected to GPRS/EDGE it will show it on the signal bars). However, what you can do is change the icon which 'G' and 'E' to just be black like the background so you won't be able to see it. Hence the actual icon notification will still be there (taking up space) but you won't see it.
I have the same problem. disabled GPRS and any way of my phone accessing 3G or 2G, but there is still an E in a gray square showing up at the top. This happened after I first installed cooked roms. My guess is that other apps are attempting to access 2G, because another problem linked to this was an error message, ""there is a problem connecting to the gprs service in your registered home network warning", which I've since then fixed (but the E problem remains)
Edit: lol I just realized this thread was years old. but if anybody has a solution, please comment
