I have an M3100 (with Orange firmware). I have an O2 monthly contract that I previously used on a Motorola V3i. I'd like to use my O2 SIM on my new PDA.
I have unlocked it using a piece of software that I was told about (yet to donate). But I have unlocked the CID - something to do with firmware - You guys know what I mean I expect.
This has WinMob/PocketPC. How do I or where do I find the firmware for O2 that will allow me to set up O2 setting. I went to www.o2.co.uk/mobileweb and found the pdf for manually setting up but their menu screen didn't look like mine.
ALSO - I would also like to use the wifi connection. My very kind neighbour temporarily disabled her security to check if I could access the internet using a hotspot but it just kept saying unable to connect. I thought that if I could find a hotspot I could just use it. Is this not the case?
Thanks in advance for your help.
S.
Well first off, SIM unlock is all you need. You do not have to replace firmwares to use O2's services. Somewhere (do a search here) here you'll find the O2 operator settings cab file (this is in really simple terms the equivalent of an installation package like you would have on your PC).
With respect to WiFi, turn on your WiFi via the comm manager (you might want to read the manual if you haven't figured this out yet) and then your phone should report any new APs that are broadcasting their SSIDs. (Tip: If the light to the left of the GSM light isn't flashing green, your WiFi is OFF).
Search the Wiki and read the manual a little as it'll save you a lot of trouble and confusion.
Wifi range is very small; it goes very very bad through walls.
In my case the signal is too bad to be used after 10 meters & 1 wall (door in fact)... Trinity (newer) is doing a little better but anyway; give at least a try very close of the accespoint.
It appears also that not every acces point is WM friendly...
Be also sure that your neighbour has beacon enabled, else you will have to setup manualy the SSID of the connection and tick "this is a hidden connexion":
I have not been able to turn on wifi reliably for ages now - It all started when I upgraded to WM5. Now (even if I downgrade to wm2003se) I cannot turn it on. I press the wifi on button, the cursor comes up but nothing happens), leave it for a couple of hours, and then press again - it will sometimes turn on. It then stays on for about 30 mins, and turns off (I have the wifi set to never turn off).
I cannot diagnose the problem - can you?
Any help GREATLY appreciated - feel free to ask for more details.

What you can do is to check the following keys in the registry:
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadstatus --> 1
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadwifi -->1
Both dword with decimal values. Next, when you made the changes, softreset and check if your wlan is working.
Keep us posted.
Cheers.

Thought I had some progress there, but now all is back to normal...
Still no luck... found this: http://www.teksoftco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=194

No Luck..Need to USE THIS URGENT
I tried it but on Reboot My settings return back from
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadstatus --> 1
RETURNS BACK to
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadstatus --> 0
___________________________________________
The other setting
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadwifi -->1
Stays same
And after that, have you tried to soft-reset the device ?
There's a good change if don't, the change won't have any effect just like on you're desktop/laptop etc.
No Luck

After the Reboot/ ie after the Soft reset.

I have the same problem.
the value change back to 0 after soft-reset.
I tried several times even waiting for some minutes before soft-resetting.
So it means ??
NO LUCK ??

@jeasbe: I just wanted to second your finding...
Actually I suspect some hardware/EEPROM issue like this (Hermes):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304004
this is my story:
1. Got the Dopod from the provider with Chinese ROM (living in mainland China at the moment). Did not test WiFi.
2. After strongly insisting on an English GUI I got an update to an English ROM from the provider. Since then no WiFi
3. Asked the provider about WiFi on my Dopod. He confirmed that it was not working but had been working with the Chinese ROM before.
.... (so excluded user problem but still no solution)
4. Decided to upgrade by myself assuming the problem lies in the ROM version.
.... Upgraded step-by-step with the various ROM versions to XM6 according to tutorial 'n checked for each ROM version for WiFi. Still no WiFi.
5. Installed the WiFi patch for the commgr. No WiFi.
6. Read about that registry hack. Values do not remain after soft-reset. No WiFi.
7. Colleagues have the same problem (but still with the English ROM from the provider). So will ask one of them to hand-in to the provider to change back to Chinese ROM in order to see whether WiFi is working with that setting. But doubting it
8. any other ideas appreciated ...
another thread with similar issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296936
It looks like the Hermes guys (Drummer) found a solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322225
However, I am not an expert so don't whether it is possible the adapt the approach somehow to the Wizard.

I found out that if you have a CHS version officially sold in China there is no WiFi feature in the phone - this rule applies for all models from any manufacturer.
I am not sure though whether it is really hardware (like missing the WLAN chip) or software issue (on a level below the ROM, because change to different ROM [incl. change of IPL/SPL and radio] won't help).
Hi all,
I managed to get hold of a very reasonable priced sim free xda mini s and aim to use it with my Vodafone sim. The text and phone services worked immediately, and i followed these instructions to get the gprs/internet/mms settings:
http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?i=124833&thread=29
They seemed to have worked a charm, and access to the net and mms sending tests have all worked (apart from I don't go directly to the vodafone live screen now when i connect - it goes to a Microsoft hold page)
The only problem I'm finding is that when i disconnect from a gprs internet connection, or after sending a mms, the phone does not drop the gprs connection as you would expect a usual handset.
Is this normal, and will i always have to switch it off manually after each connection, or have i botched a setting somewhere?
Thanks to you all in advance for any help you can give,
Mike
PS: Weird getting used to no finger texting!
Try Zoki's NBD v7.3 ROM.
I was having the same problem as you, but have flashed with this new ROM today & the GPRS appears to auto disconnect after a MMS has been sent.
Find the ROM HERE
Hi, and thanks
I have no idea just yet, how i would go about changing the ROM, but for futue reference - great!
Thanks again,
Mike
i think you can disconnect from gprs or edge by holding the "END" button down, well atleast that works for me
You might like to try a registry tweak application like RegistryWizard or Tweak2K2.NET. You should find these have options for GPRS connectivity.
Unless you absolutely 100% want to install a new ROM and understand the risks and implications I recommend against installing a new ROM for a simple usability fix. Custom ROMs tend to have their fair share of problems themselves.
My phone preconfigures a network when I enter a sim card. The sim setting would be correct for my provider, but I have my own network settings combining corporate and provider settings. The phone however kicks them out every time I start it up.
I just want to kick this wizard out, but HOW?!?! Can't find it in the registry etc.
You could try unlocking the extended rom and then deleting the carrier.pxp file that is in there. That would stop *any* configuration I think - but htat might be more of a nuisance if you end up roaming.
(This is a GSM-specific answer by the way. Don't know about CDMA)
John
Solved the issue by going into the registry. If I can't edit the wizard, I can at least kill it's configuration. Just look for the setup the wizard suggests and edit it to the right settings.
Could you tell me how you got that wizard disabled? You said, that you've bee in the registry. What keys are there to change?
disable connection setup
I had the same problem as well, and seeming there seemed to be no answer thought I'ld post where the keys were on my phone (HTC 3600i) this will be different for the palm but might give someone a starting point
HKCU\Software\HTC\Connectionsetup
On the HTC there are several keys that seem to relate to auto start and auto detect, I set them all to 0 and haven't had another problem.
Also just try searching the registry for connectionsetup thats how i found it.

Hi guys/Girls
Hope you can help and point me in the right direction.
I performed a ROM update on my phone earlier today following your extreamly helpful guides.
But now I have a problem the 3G/HSDPA (I dont get any atall), where as normally i would be on HSDPA while sat at my desk in work, now i get a very poor GPRS reception.
I Understand this is something to do with the Radio Version?
Country UK
Provider O2
Model HTC HD2
OS Versiob 5.2.21868
Manila Version 2.5.19211619.0
ROM Version: 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
ROM date 01/11/10
Radio Version: 2.06.51.07
Proticol Version 15.30.50.07U
What version should I be applying/where should I get it form? And is it just a case of running an EXE like it was with the ROM update (after applying the HSPL, which i have already done).
Thanks in advance for any help you can give Ive found this site extreamly helpfull so far, and I'm sure you can help me out here aswell.

I had the same issue because the o2 ROM sets you up just before Windows launches after a ROM update, or hard reset. The stock ROM is network independent so it doesnt do this.
Anyway, go to Start/Settings/Menu/All Settings/Connections/Connection setup, then just choose UK and O2 respectively.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I have tried this, and even downloaded the updated settings (very slowly over GPRS) dosnt seem to have made a differance.
I'm running through Random Radio Versions at the moment trying to find one that works, and provides me with the signal strength i had before. If i find out I will post this info here to help others in the future.
Obviously if someone has already solved this issue please let me know to save me some time
There should be a 3g/GSM switch in the Comm Manager, GSM will be only GPRS and Edge wheras 3g will include 3g and HDSPA. If it isnt there, there is a tweak (either reg edit or a cab file i think), search through the forum and you should find it.

Would this be the same as going into the band settings and configuring them as Auto? Thesrs loads of numbers in here that im not going to even pretend to understand Shed any light on what the UTSM settings should be etc... or should they be left as AUTO?
When setting up a data connection, i only get the option of "Cellular Line (GRPS) and not Cellular Line (GPRS,3G). I assume this is my problem?
Ahhh so confused, I'm on my 3rd Radio version and none of them have made a differamce yet

Without wanting to sound really dumb, or ask a stupid annoying question but how do i do that? My band settings are already set to Auto
Settings tab on Sense, Wireless controls, then you should have a switch that says 3g, in your case it should be off, turn this on. If it isnt there, let us know!

No 3G option, I did have a look for the CAB/Reg tweak, but from looking at it it just changes the band settings from GSM to auto (which mine are already set at) if this is not the case whats the best way of adding this switch?
http://www.ad-grafiska.se/HD2/LEO TWEAKS/Touch X add 3G commmanager.cab
This is from the sense 2.5 tweaks & mods cabs thread, it will add the 3g button. Try and see what happens, if it doesnt work then I will see what settings I have on mine

OK ive installed the CAB (Thanks for linking to it for me was a great help). After restarting my HD2 i now have the option to disable/re-enable 3g.
However (heres the bad news) it was already set to on. Iv switch it off/Back on etc... and i'm still only getting GPRS, with no 3g option under the new connections manager.
The_cool, are you on O2 in the Uk aswell? If you try to set up a new connection can you select Cellular Line (GPRS,3G)? I only get the GPRS option.
What ROM/Radios versions are you using?
If you had the stock O2 rom, flash the radio that came with your phone -
Leo_RADIO_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50_22_2(from HTC ** 1.43)
see the radio thread.
radios are independent, I should be surprised if its that.
have you tried the icon your sim card installs? look in start, probably down the bottom , looks like a sim card and called o2 (or whatever sim you have in) and has one option...get settings?

I am from the UK but I am on T mobile, running topix 1.2 and my radio is the one that came with the offical 1.66 rom which is 2.06.51.07
I am abit confused when you say "with no 3g option under the new connections manager." Testing the switch on mine, when it is off, it says 3g as the heading and the text under is says Change to auto mode. When you turn it on, the phone goes offline for a few seconds and the switch now says 3g as a heading and the text under sayin Change to GSM mode. Your switch should be like this with the switch in the on position. Sorry if I am being patronising but I just want to be clear.
When you talk about celluar line, I am assuming you mean when you try to set up a new connection, this is only for data connections, not for making calls. If I am not mistaken, even if that wasnt set up, it wouldnt stop you from having 3G or H reception, you just wouldnt be able to using the data funtions on the phone until that was set up. But looking at mine, if I edit my connection, the 1st page that comes up is Enter a name for the connection and the then Select a modem. That is on Cellular Line (GPRS) which is greyed out and I still get 3g reception.
usually you will get good GPRS reception, 3g/H can be hit or miss. Try reflashing your radio or try a different one.
Try going to Settings, Connections, Advanced Network and then check that Enable HSDPA/HSUPA is showing in the HSDPA/HSUPA tab. The options on mine are Disable, Enable HSDPA Only and Enable HSDPA/HSUPA.

That only enables or disables HSDPA, even if diasabled you would still get 3g reception but i guess its worth a try.
perhaps the local antenna is having problems or other source of local interference?
I have personally noticed in comparing T-mobile and O2 that in most places T-mob have good to great 3G, whereas O2 is iffier on 3G, but faultless 2G.
I just flashed my sister's Diamond/Ignito with the latest official UK O2 diamond rom and now she only gets gsm and no 3g either. What the heck is going on?
Origional SPL installed and phone still has the same problem.
After speaking to O2 Cust Support it seems there are intermittant Network problems due to upgrades they are performing at the moment on their network. However that dosnt explain why my old SE c905 has full HSDPA when my hTC HD2 as 1 bar GSM or no signal atall using the same sim in the same location (and only the amount of time it takes me to swap over a sim in time differance).
Phone is going back today, as I'v only had it a week.
