E-Mail vanishing? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

When I get new e-mail and close the window and reopen it, the e-mail is gone. Any ideas why and how I can rectify?

@trapper, sorry to hear about your problem. I have repeated many times at this forum that the WM5 memory arrangement can lead to loss of data but members here tell me I am wrong or it only happens to a "few" people. Well even a "few" people is not good enough!
You may find that the loss of data is related to the instability of the Radio s/w. I had loss of email data when I found I had to reset after a freeze when downloading email. You may find updating your firmware to the latest version may help (there is a thread here about the latest Radio firmware, whcih works really well). Also try to extend the PowerSave option to day 2 minutes and also try witj no PowerSave to see if this helps.

I just sent a reply to an e-mail and it deleted the e-mail that I was replying to. So this would be fixed with the latest Radio upgrade?

XDA II Crashing

Hi,
I am still having the problem where when sending an SMS or trying to make a phone call, every now and again, my XDA II's ability as a 'phone' gives up, forcing me to soft reset.
I have previously mentioned this before here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26285&highlight=cloud but no-one was able to help me.
Just to reiterate: This is happening daily at the moment and since my previous post on this subject I have done several hard resets. To describe it in detail, when tapping the 'send' button after creating an SMS the button briefly turns into a cloud and quickly disappears, I then get the bubble saying SMS sent.
Until I come to send an SMS or make a phone call I have no idea that the 'phone' function of my XDA II isn't working. Therefore, there have been instances where people have been trying to contact me for hours and I don't know about it because I have a full signal strength.
PLEASE HELP. Would a rom upgrade work??? Is anyone else having this problem??
thanks
all i know is that my gut says maybe!
not rom really but more like radiostack change
What should I upgrade to?? Will that just affect how the phone runs (not the pda)
cheers
once again this forum has proved a huge amount of help.... not. There is another post regarding this problem at the top of the board today. Can someone please help as quiet a few people are experiencing this problem.
RE
What OS are you using on your O2 XDA II? WM2003 or WM2003se and what ROM version?
Can you start fresh by doing a hard reset (make sure you backup all important info)
Do NOT install any program at this point in time.
Then try sending SMS or calling from another phone to yours - to see whether the problem exists with the default programs.
If there's no problem and the default programs work fine that would means conflict occurs between those newly installed programs or between the installed programs and the OS/default programs
If there's a problem at this stage its either the default programs/ROM thats partially corrupted or could be likely due to a hardware failure.
Now, you re-flash your ROM to the same version and see if the problem persists. If after re-flashing the same ROM you still face the same problem then its most likely a hrdware issue.
To confirm further, you can upgarde/flash your ROM to a higher version and see if the same problem persists. At this stage if you still see the same problem then you can 100% be sure its the hardware problem. Bring it back to your service center to have it serviced.
NOTE :- UNOFFICIAL UPGRADING OF ROM WILL VOID YOUR SET'S WARRANTY!!!
However, if after upgrading of ROM and the problem disappears then the problem could be due to a partially corrupted earlier ROM
You can now install programs and occassionally test the SMS and phone to check for program conflicts.
Good luck
Thanks for your help mate. It says what OS and Rom i'm using at the bottom of each thread. I really don't think it's a problem with the applications i'm running because I'm only using the IntelliPad as extra software, everything else which is running is default.
Would a different radio version be worth a try??
RE
OK twichibi,
You can try changing to the latest radio v1.18
If things don't work out try to re-flash to the same ROM version again to check whether you have a partially corrupted ROM initially
If problem still persists try reflashiing (upgrade) to a higher ROM version
If all else fails then you can be sure that you do have a defective hardware somewhere
NOTE : - UPGRADE ROM AT YOUR OWN RISK AS IT WOULD VOID YOUR WARRANTY

New Sprint Rom Is Here ???

New sprint rom?? http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10293&page=3
http://download.america.htc.com/RUU_...PL106_Ship.exe
It's been confirmed. That is the new official ROM for Sprint. It fixes the Bluetooth issues among others. No Rev. A or GPS of course, but that was expected.
question is, is this really "better" than the alltel rom that has been available for a long time already over at PPCgeeks...
The alltel rom fixed the BT and alarm problem as well. I'm excited to see that Sprint finally caught up, but I'm wondering if this is better than the setup I currently have.
Well I for one am happy and upset.. I would like to see REV A , as I need the faster upload speeds for sending big files from my 4gb micro sd.
I havent tried the Alltel rom, but the new sprint rom fixes the keyboard lag + wm6 responsiveness problems.
After reading all of the threads over at PPCGeeks, it seems like there are some mixed results on the ROM (to be expected I guess, you can't appease everyone.)
-Most are reporting the BT fix worked correctly.
-I didn't see anyone say that the Alarm fix didn't work
-People are reporting that the OS seems a little faster and better at managing memory, such as reclaiming more when you close an app, etc.
-The radio version on the Sprint ROM is 1.47, compared to 1.40 of the Alltel, some were reporting better reception between this one and the stock rom (1.32 I believe)
-the most widely spread issue I saw was that some users were having issues with their dpad not working. At first, someone pinned it down to sprinttv, as it worked after they removed it, but then others said that the problem returned.
-YMMV, but some reported that when they skipped the sprint customization of the rom (when it starts initially, after the 3 second delay where you can soft reset) it caused issues on their phone. One person said that a workaround for this was to let it install EVERYTHING initially, and then do a hard reset and skip the customization process. It makes sense that if it were something with the EXTRom that it might put something in there that you needed, but again, not sure on this one.
-I can't believe how many people were stuck on the idea that they would be able to use Sprite Backup or SPB Backup to restore all of their stuff. Let me say this again, because I don't think it can be said enough. Unless you are just restoring folders such as your documents or something non-system related, you CANNOT use these programs. You WILL overwrite the new files with the old ones, causing a boatload of issues, if it even works at all. So don't do it, or you will cause yourself some headaches. Activesync remembers the apps you have installed, so just sync afterwards and click the boxes. For your other stuff such as contacts, back those up with a contact backup app or sync with outlook if you've got it.
just my two cents.

i took the plunge yesterday, i skipped out on all the sprint customization and everything turned out ok....haven't tested bluetooth yet but everything you said seems to be on point...

Just to clarify this is part. A hard reset will completely erase any carrier customizations there is absolutely no reason for installing extrom, hard resetting then skipping. Just start out with the hard reset, skip customizations and you'll be good to go.
Although there are still the other bugs with the update =)
Just installed it a while ago, skipped the sprint customizations, everything seems to be running good and actually noticeably quicker than before. New startup screen is cool too, no problems thus far =)
do yourself a favor and wait for the next rom. If you didn't already experiance it, your device will lock up and go to sleep requiring a soft reset...very unusable. and BT will turn off after a few minutes randomly.
load the colonel's rom on, it's much better imho
Seems to only happen to some people though. I have had my phone on pretty much straight since the rom update.
there seems to be a major bluetooth issue where the BT just shuts off periodically.. Not sure how,but they found a way to make bluetooth even worse!
I can't carry on a conversation without BT shutting off on me.. (or use the gps without it shutting off/etc..)

I haven't updated yet, plan to over the weekend, but I would suggest anyone having problems to stop and consider their setup first...
1. What programs are installed that could cause problems?
2. What registry hacks have been done that may cause problems?
3. What configuration settings might need reset that may cause problems?
For example, after a hard reset, Enhanced Network over USB is enabled by default, and this often causes Active Sync to have issues. Likewise, power management tweaks will have reverted to defaults and you may like a more finely tuned setup.
As for memory leaks being better/worse, you may have programs installed that are out of date/buggy.
I realize it's easier to jump on the "this sucks" bandwagon, but it doesn't help you or other users with legitimate problems when no consideration is given to what is causing a given problem.
These situations are precisely why the instructions tell you that EVERYTHING will be erased. This is a good thing since it forces you to clean house, but it also means you have to pay attention to those things you often neglect or may have changed ages ago and forgotten.
Finally, if all else fails, try the ROM update again. Sometimes things go wrong.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, I just want people having issues to place blame where it truly belongs. After considering these matters, if you still have problems, definitely let HTC and the rest of us know.
Best Regards,
Aaron

My experience is as simple and "vanilla" as it gets:
-Loaded new ROM
-Hard reset
-Stopped customizations
-Installed NO apps, did not turn on BT, made no calls, did nothing else
-3 DSODs in 4 hours
-Did a second flash (from a second computer with a freshly downloaded ROM)
-Hard reset
-Allowed customizations to run
-Again no apps, BT or calls
-DSOD within an hour

Sounds atypical to me, given that most users are updating without issue and experiencing better results. I have no reason to doubt your experience though... it sounds like you have faulty hardware, but here's a download link to the previous firmware if you're interested in trying it out first:
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/mogul/software-downloads.html
No, "most" users are not experiencing better results. I've been using this ROM with poor results, as have many others. Read this thread for many sad tales of woe:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10302
Basically, the new ROM does fix a bunch of things, but breaks others, so I would not recommend installing this ROM.
1) Locks up when changing from Sprint to roaming. You can test this by manually switching from Sprint to roaming and back a few times, you WILL get a phone lockup.
2) BT turns off randomly for many users.
3) Turn on BT, let unit sit for a few minutes until it goes to sleep, turn unit back on, dpad no longer works. I have seen this myself many times.
Don't install this update --- use the Alltel ROM or wait for another update.

1) You're incorrect in stating that most users have no problems, etc. Some do, some don't. Read the posts at ppcgeeks, pdaphonehome, BAW, hofo. I am not at all alone in having problems.
2) I downgraded 2 days ago, and my Mogul runs fine again - just exactly like it did for the 1st 3 months I had it. It's not my hardware! It's a bad ROM release.
Not everyone uses the phone in the same way at all. So of course some people will not see the same problems that others do.
If you never use Bluetooth and never roam, then this ROM will work for you. Otherwise, it will cause problems. For me, Bluetooth works much better in 2.09, and I rarely if ever see lockups as I have with 2.16. So, I'm going with 2.09 for now. The alarm problem IS fixed in 2.16 but I never use alarms on my phone so it's not an issue for me. Freezes when roaming ARE a problem.

is colonels rom built on the alltel core rom? if so it may be our best bet as of now.

End call doesn't end call...

I have the 8525 with WM6 installed. About 1 in 40 times, the End Call option doesn't display that the call ended (on my side). I attempt to still talk to the other person but I can't hear them, though. After about 2 minutes later, it finally ends the connection. I must do a soft reset to temporarily fix it; the only drawback is that the most previous call isn't shown as being made.
About 1 in 80 times, the call attempts to be made, but doesn't connect at all. I try to End Call, but it seems to "freeze" the screen. The "Close screen" seems to help, as in 30 seconds the device finally quits trying to connect.
Another thing I noticed, after the phone freezes, the antenna signal drops to zero and then returns to about 2 - 3 bars of signal, about 5 seconds later. I'm not sure if that is the cause of the phone hanging, or not. Is there any kind of software to resolve this issue? It's really annoying! Thanks for any help!
is that a cooked rom or official? what's your radio version and carrier?
I'm thinking u need a different radio verson...(u must have hardspl to flash another radio version)...
I got the 8525 as a reconditioned from AT&T about 3 weeks ago. It came with WM5, and I had the above calling issues back then too. I then was informed on the boards here to upgrade to WM6, which I downloaded from HTC, via the AT&T website link.
As for programs, I removed the AT&T "bloatware" via the hard reset trick. Later, I installed S2U2, HTC Streaming Media, HTweakC2.1b, and the PTTFix software. One other program on the 8525 is OCN8 -- for my iBlue 737 Bluetooth GPS device. There are no other files that I can recall, except maps, songs, internet .jpgs, and (camera) pictures/videos.
Settings:
ROM Version: 3.62.502.3
ROM Date: 10/11/07
Radio Version: 1.54.07.00
Protocol Version: 32.86u.7020.23H
I do appreciate and try to understand all of the replies that I receive, and I do try to respond within a timely manner. I understand that people are busy and may have other careers as well. However, the thing that makes me pull my hair out is when someone starts to assist my problem, then just ditches the thread after my reply, without so much as an "I'm sorry, but I'm not able to solve your problem" at the minimum! Normally, I give a 48 hour window for the helper or any more helpers to reply before I get frustrated, but it's been way past that timeframe now!
I've noticed that phenomenon on 3 of my prior posts, each are on different subjects. It seems that after the first reply, no one but the original helper responds! If that original helper is busy, or just forgets about the thread, then I'm screwed over.
Sorry to rant, but I tried looking all over the boards for the best Radio program. All I seem to find is best ROMs, but not really Radios. I've seen 2 other Radio programs in signatures, but I'm not sure what one would be best for my purposes. I've seen mention of 1.47.30 & 1.47.00.10 in some members' signatures, but I'm hesitant to just "trial and error" one, for fear it would damage my device. I currently have the WM6 default 1.54.07.00 version, but it freezes up on making some calls and more often on ending a current call.
Anyone else for ideas or opinions on what Radio program to use? Please back up your opinion with facts when possible. I am not an expert on the device, just a new user who is afraid to ruin my investment.
Much thanks to all who read this post and reply to it!
Hi, just saw your thread & did not know U were still hanging....
I would try radio 1.48.00.00 first, then 1.47.00.10 or 1.50.00.00 if necessary. Seem's a lot of at&t users liked 1.48 from what I noticed (don't forget hardspl - use mrvanx guide in the Mobile 6 forum section)...
Here's the 1.54 thread with pro's, con's, and 1.48 at&t comments...

Thanks for the reply! I will do the hardspl first, then try to install the 1.48.00.00 Radio. I'll report back with details in a day or two.
My current Image Version is 3.62.502.3, and I am attempting to update it to 3.54.255.3.
I keep having errors while trying to install Radio Version 1.48.00.10 to my 8525, after opening RUU_Inside.exe on my laptop. I've even tried to install it from my microSD card, but I get the tri-color screen instead of the white background with text screen, shown in the online example. The 8525 ActiveSyncs to the computer fine, and the screen shows:
"Updating the ROM image on your PDA phone ...
Please do not remove the USB connection from the PDA Phone or launch any program during the update process.
Remember the operation will take about 10 minutes."
As soon as the above grey box pops up, ActiveSync drops after that box appears, then I get the following message:
"Error [260]: CONNECTION"
I've installed Hard-SPL v.7 onto the 8525 already. Not that it seems to make a difference, I believe, but other programs that are on it include: WMXL 8525 Keyboard Fix, S2U2 1.16, Resco Explorer 2008, PTTFix, MunduRadio, & HTweakC 2.1,
not sure, but did a "search" for error 260 & seems to be your pc usb port:
(use xda google search for any questions)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368624
btw, u are using XP & not Vista on u'r pc.
My laptop has XP (Media Center Edition). I did a search as well, but it was dated back to 2007; I wondered if there was a newer fix than the one on that page, as it referenced the prior version of Hard-SPL. From the sounds of it, I have to install WM5 again, change the radio version (which was the only thing I need to adjust, as the voice calls have been a pain since day one), then reinstall all of my programs again.
I've heard people create ROMs. However, the radio settings can't be included in them . . . or am I off-base with that presumption? I am not that experienced to cook my own ROM, as I am still learning the nuances.
Well I broke down and went on AT&T's online chat. Sounds like there is no software to install to fix the issue. I hoped the radio version switch would help, but I couldn't get it to install! I guess it's back to the Replacement Depot on Sunday. I should return my device to WM5, which I hope to find the thread for on the board.
If interested, here's the key parts of the conversation:
Me: Hi, my 8525 is giving me trouble making and ending calls. It sometimes hangs, and doesn't quit trying to place the call. Once I reset it, it's fine until I try to end the call, it hangs up the call, but not showing so on my side
AT&T: Can you try hard shocking the phone for me please? A hard shock is taking the battery out while the phone is still powered on, and then power the phone back on once the battery is back in the phone.
Me: I received it as a reconditioned from the AT&T depot in Pittsburgh, PA. About 20 minutes later, it did the same thing, so I upgraded to WM6 and still the same issues
AT&T: If you continue to have these issues with this phone, you will need to take the phone back to the Device Support place where you got it from.
Me: Is that a common issue?
AT&T: Sometimes it is with at reconditioned phone.
. . .
AT&T does not have an update for the Windows Mobile 6 at this time. However you may check out HTC website at www.htcamerica.net/support/default.html and see if they have an update for this software for this phone.
Me: So it's the phone, not the software?
AT&T: Yes that is correct. There is a defect within the phone that is causing these issues. If you continue to have these issues with this phone, you will need to take the phone back to the Device Support place where you got it from.
Me: Are you able to explain what causes it that the Device Center doesn't catch it
AT&T: I am not sure what causes this issue.
Me: Like should there be anything done to prevent that from happening?
AT&T: It is hard to tell with reconditioned phones. It may be something that can be fixed and it may not. If the hard shock does not fix this issue and the Device Support cannot, then you will be given another phone.

Ok, your signature is looking good and that is some conversation with good old at&t...bla bla bla
To answer your question above, the chefs cooked roms do not include radio (because everyone around the world uses a different one). But, the Official WM6 rom's do (posted wiki & wm 6 section). So, why don't u flash the official wm6 since u have hardspl now? This in itself may resolve u'r issue (if u don't get the driver pc 260 error)! why would u want to flash wm5?
I was going to return my 8525 to the Service Depot where I got it, is why I mentioned returning it back to WM5 status. However, I wanted to see if it could be fixed by software first, but considering the above online AT&T chat, I am definitely going to get it replaced again. So, I want the 8525 to not show my "3rd party software" to ruin the warranty. I had the 8525 to individually remove the CABs under Remove Programs, and then I did a Clear Memory to default for good measure. Hopefully the Service Depot won't say anything about the device being altered that way.
Oh yea, I am going to get it replaced on Thursday. I will try to get them to give me a new one, not a reconditioned. That is, if there are even any new ones around anymore! It'd be a miracle if they gave me a new 8925 Tilt instead . . . lol I know -- keep dreaming! Wish me luck with a new 8525 though!
Well, I exchanged my current 8525 for another reconditioned one. The repair guy actually asked if I heard of the xda website (for help with my device!), lol!! He didn't go into detail about what this site does, just asked if I heard about it, and I affirmed that I did. Possibly he found traces of programs that changed settings, but he didn't rat me out. He sounded like he was confident that he fixed the phone dialing issues, but gave me a new one "just in case".
As soon as he gave it to me, it booted right up, without the calibration screen. He flat out told me to calibrate it, but it didn't appear. I was trying to see if it would act up with the dialing again, but noticed it didn't save the numbers on my SIM! I then decided to get rid of the bloatware via the Clear Programs and that lead to the calibration screen, finally.
So far it seems to work fine! I made about 6 calls this time and they seem to end properly. There is a slight 30 second or so delay when I press the button with the "red phone symbol" [end call] before the screen lights up again though. Is that normal?
Oh, I've only loaded up S2u2 so far. I will reinsert the others onto my memory card today sometime before work.
Again, so far so good! Only real issue I see is that the ringer volume is very low when the device is in the carrying case I have it in. I will search on here for a ringer volume changer, soon!
Glad U were able to get another phone!
"red phone symbol" [end call] before the screen lights up again though. Is that normal?
No, should end in a few seconds...doesn't seem it's even assigned to the phone (U can use Schaps Advanced Config tool to do this and many more good tweeks).

The "end call" does it's job, just that the screen is dim then it takes like 30 seconds to brighten again to show that the call is ended. Possibly it's something I have set up wrong. I notice the blue backlight for the keypad doesn't light up until a minute of my typing on it for a text; it's like a delayed reaction.
(I have the unlimited text/pix/vid plan, as of this past Thursday.) A bit off-topic, but are the Yahoo, AOL, & MSN IM programs considered a text or do they use kilobytes of data? I could use the programs over the Wi-Fi if I had to, but I don't want to pay extra for data kilobytes.
Lastly, I have never downloaded the Schaps Configuration. What all settings should I change? I know it's mostly based on personal preference, but what are some common alterations using it? For instance, I set the alarm to wake up to, but it's only a short beep sound. If I really was sleepy, I would probably sleep right through it! Does this program (or any others) configure any song on my device to be the alarm? I've already done that to the ringtone (where the first 30 seconds of any song is my ringtone).

The "end call" does it's job, just that the screen is dim then it takes like 30 seconds to brighten again to show that the call is ended. Possibly it's something I have set up wrong. I notice the blue backlight for the keypad doesn't light up until a minute of my typing on it for a text; it's like a delayed reaction. check in Settings>System>Backlight & Keyboard Backlight.
I don't use them, but it should be treated as MMS text.
Schaps has a number of Performance, Power, UI settings, etc., but no alarm ringtones. U may not need Since u'r using HTweekC.

Touch HD 5 minute of your time please ?

Hi guys,
I humbly request 5 minute of your time,to make the following request.
Like many others, i have experienced a lot of critical problems with my HD, I therefore emailed HTC with a list of the most critical issues. However i doubt that they will take the feedback of one individual seriously. So what i ask of anyone who has any problem with their HD which is in fact a HTC problem to email them, with all the details of these issues. If we all work together in providing them with this feedback, then i am sure they will take it seriously, and hopefully address our issues.
Please use this link to send the feedback:
http://www.htc.com/www/CS_Mail.aspx
Here is some of the issues with my HD which i made them aware of:
"Good day,i have a few critical issues with my Touch HD which i would like to bring to your attention:
1. When my Touch HD is in standby it does not always notify me when a test message is received via a sound or a vibration.
2. I've got an appointment set up in Outlook on the PC for 7pm-11:30pm this evening. When I synchronized, the home screen on the HD says "Tomorrow 19:00 - 23:30" instead of "Today" If I tap the appointment on the home screen to enter the calendar program, it correctly shows under today's date, with nothing tomorrow.
3. I want my calendar view set to Month view. So I've chosen Month view form the options and everything seems OK. However, every time I choose calendar from the home screen it briefly starts in Month view, and then opens the agenda view.
4. In 99% of calls I make & receive, my calls are either dropped or disconnected, or there is noise in the signal, or either the other person can hear me but I am unable to hear the other person. I came to the conclusion that if I disable 3g all is fine, however I am not willing to accept this or any other solution where I have to disable features ,because I have paid a very large amount of money for this device, and I expect each and every feature to be working properly. I therefore friendly request that you look into this matter with the utmost urgency and come to a quick and effective resolution. "
I can tell what they are responding (short version):
"1. Please hardrest your device
2. If the issues are still present, send it to our technicians for repair."
Its a standard email answer if you are reporting with HTC devices.
i dont experience those problems, but then i use a cooked rom, maybe you should and then you will be happy with your HD

I believe problems 2&3 are win mobile problems, not device related, but, for the amount of money we pay for these devices we SHOULD get all the features working properly.
I experienced problem 1, the calls are working great, no problems whatsoever.
I experienced 2 & 3.. but not 1 & 4.
I have only experienced #3, but I think that is related to TF3D based on what I have read.
I could also recomend to hard reset your device.
Looks like you installed some third party software which could cause this problems.
Second problem which could be is the network problem. check with your operator.
and finaly upgrade your device with one of the cooked roms like dutty's hd extreme 2.1, (I'm happy with this rom)
good luck
if someone can tell them about camera driver,if they can speed up camera
regarding number 2:
this happens if the pc u sync ur fone with is having the rong time/date. check ur pc if it has the correct time zone, date and time set.. when synced, the date of your fone changes to that of the pc and if the pc is running one day behind, then your fone would do the same.. also, even if this happens, when u go check the calendar, the apointment would be on the date you created it on coz its nothing rong with the calendar, but the date of your fone when your syncd with a pc with the rong date/time..
hope this helps, please let know if you solved this problem. goodluck..
I have #1
And 10-15 texts after a reboot i only get vibration no sound, I do a reboot and sound is back on
Number 3 can be fixed using SSMaPa. Just remove the $ from the Arguments fields.
i have not experience those problem u mentioned yet...
hope i never will....
and all the best solving urs
I've gotta be honest I do not have any of those issues at all.
I am experience 2 offen.

Having to restart everyday. Slows down incredibly after 12-24h of use.

Hi Everyone,
I really hope this hasn't been asked before, I have, of course, tried searching but it's a complicated issue to search for. I posted a similar question in the Q&A thread before I did some more investigating but received no response.
I love my HD2 when it's on top form but it only seems to run like this for a maximum of 24h. After this the memory usage goes up from about 48% to 58% with nothing running and everything responds terrible slowly. The most noticeable/irritating issue is when trying to type a text message. Each key takes about a second to respond and it is so slow that if I type at normal speed it misses all the spaces I type and I end up with just one long garbled word. It is not just this that slows however, it's the entire phone. Navigating tabs in sence, flicking through texts, using and closing applications, scrolling up and down anything, the weather animation, Duttys task manager all become unusable. As soon as I soft reset it's fine again.
Incidentally the phone behaved exactly the same before I upgraded to the 1.66 Vodafone ROM (from 1.43). I always hoped the ROM upgrade would fix the problem but it did not.
Since posting the original question (where I was suspecting an app or manilla tweak to be the cause) I decided to hard reset and not install anything to see if the issue persisted. It did.
So, has anyone else had this problem. Should I be thinking about sending it back to HTC. I only hard reset this morning and since then have setup email, synced with myphone, setup wireless and setup facebook, twitter and youtube in sence and listened to some music already on my SD card. nothing else. and now it's ridiculously slow again.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone.
Murg
It does sound faulty I'm afraid. If a hard reset doesn't fix it then it's probably the device. You could try a custom ROM, but it probably wouldn't fix anything, and then you'd have to flash it back to its original state before sending it away for replacement.
My guess would be to send it back as faulty. Just make sure that it's running slow when you turn it off before sending it back, or they'll most likely turn it on, see no immediate problem and just put the latest ROM on and call it "fixed".
i have the same exept mine was fine on vf 1.43 rom. have hard reset and reflshed but no beter so i asume its the vf rom? keep thinking of flashing custom rom but never done it before
Thanks for the replies so far. i have posted this on the Vodafone eforum and sent it to HTC support so we'll see what they have to say.
Are there any Vodafone stock ROM users on here who defiantly don't have this problem?
I don't want to HSPL my device on account of my warranty. (yes i know you can uninstall it but what what if my buttons break, or my screen becomes unusable for example) cant afford to buy a replacement so I just ain't doing it yet. (as much as I'd like to)
If it is the ROM there is no point sending it back to Vodafone.. does anyone know if I can send a Vodafone device back to HTC themselves?
Many Thanks
Murg
Hi murgers
Im on Vodafone in UK. Have you a cleanRAM -HTC Addicts- app on your HD2? there are others available!
In brackets below taken from info sheet on download of file.
(Release memory for Windows Mobile devices.
 Amazing utility which helps you to clean up the wasted RAM memory without having to restart the device and eventually saves a lot of time.)
If you have not tried using a clean RAM app, try search on this forum and try on your phone. It really helps free up anything up to 30 - 40 MB ram at a time
Hope this helps

I have received a response from HTC as follows:
Thank you for contacting us.
In regards to the problems you are currently experiencing, it seems that you have a number of software issues here. Therefore, the only thing i can suggest is to book your phone in for repair so we can have a look into this further. You can do this by calling 08458900079 and speaking to one of our HTC representatives.
If a hard reset and a ROM upgrade did not improve the performance of your phone then this is the next best alternative.

Sounds like HTC are blaming the Vodafone ROM.
How does returning to HTC work? will i have to pay anything? Do they collect the phone? how long will it take? How can I prove the issue exists, do I send the phone 'on' and whist experiencing the fault?
As said before it's unlikely that sending it back to Vodafone will yield any results.
if you phone htc then they will send someone to yours to pick up the phone in a few days. the whole process takes about a couple weeks and then they ship it back to you
when i sent my phone off for repair i went into a tmobile (my operator) shop and they sent it off for me, and then got a text back when the phone was back, i went back to the shop to pick it up
the whole process took 13 days
this did not solve my problem so i went back to a tmobile shop and am getting a full exhange (swapping for a new phone) on wednesday
hope this helps
its all very simple
Theres a very simple fix... clear your text messages.
This was my issue too which was addressed in another post. When my phone synced with MyPhone, it downloaded thousands of messages and caused major problems. the reason I didn't have issues on my tilt has something to do with sense integration. another option is to disable the sense text messenger app and use the default winmo app.
This is why it works fine for the first 24 hours. When MyPhone syncs overnight and retrieves your texts you get the slowdown.
Hope this helps.
I get this also. Have a t-mobile phone but since flashed it to xannytech, but I still get this.
I had suspected it might be something to do with MyPhone. There a good backup solution I can use that's not this ? Might re-flash and never use it again.
Does the OP use myphone too ?? Might be the common theme...
It's not MyPhone that causes the problem. That simply restores things that you've deleted. If you archive your text message using the MyPhone web interface then they'll be deleted off your phone next time you sync, but they'll still be available online.
That doesn't make any sense. I haven't deleted any text messages. The phone works perfectly quickly, but after a day or so it suddenly starts going really slow. i.e. it takes 30s after pressing 'talk' for the phone to start ringing, typing in messages is slow, the weather goes all stuttery. No programs appear to be running. Restarting the phone fixes it again, but this is pretty annoying.
I had thought it might be myphone or some other service doing something funny in the background. Any way to debug this?
as someone has allready said, i have Cleanram app scheduled to run twice a day and very rarely have an issue. Its all in the background so you dont even notice it running
Ah okay - I thought you were referring to the ongoing discussion and previous talk of how myphone was affecting the OP.
Why don't you just set myphone to sync manually. That way it never does anything in the background. I seriously doubt it's myphone that is causing the problems you have described.
I'd suggest uninstalling apps 1-by-1 to see if the problem suddenly disappears, as it's something that you have installed that's causing the problem. Obviously, if you find the problem still occurs after removing something, you can then reinstall it and move onto the next app.
Will give cleanram a go, though I don't think memory is the problem (always seems to be plenty free when it slows down) - but worth a try!
Not sure it is something installed either, as I don't really have much installed other than myphone, marketplace, google maps and like one game. .... other than of course what came with Xannytech's ROM, but had same issue before and after I put this on anyhow
cheers
Just happened again and tried cleanram, but did not help. It's like something is really hogging the CPU and everything responds slowly, but nothing is running in task manager.
Does anyone know if there is there anyway to show what services are running? Or any other way to debug?
thanks
@rathga
how many text messages are stored on your device?
I have a suspicion that perhaps you didn't grasp what I was saying regarding Myphone.
Hi Rathga - My HD2 does exactly the same thing, with absolutely exactly the same symptoms I've never used myphone though.
I'm on stock O2 (1.43?) and have only really installed TomTom, Hotfixes and Ranster Device Reset (to cope with this issue!)
Often after I keep using it I get prompted to send a debug message to MS with an error in filesys.exe - I'll update this with full details when it happens next
I'm installing this cleanram to see if it helps somehow

Try looking at this thread in the HD2 General forum (sorry can't post links)
'CPU usage is 100% when running Opera'
This was causing me some problems. Clearing the Opera cache certainly seemed to work.
Andy.
Hi,
Don't know if anyone is interested any more or still having this problem but I realised I didn't post a resolution to the problem when I figured out that was causing it.
The Problem was caused by...... Dah Dah Dah.....TEXT MESSAGES.
I had about 1000 text messages shared between the inbox and outbox and apparently this was way too much for the phone to cope with. This really annoyed me as I never had to delete them on my TyNn II (or any other phone I've ever owned for that matter), Iphone and Android users never have to delete them what what is with that!!!.
Sure enough after using MyPhone to 'Archive' the texts the phone sprang back to it speedy old self. Put them back on and Bam... slows to a stop over the course of an hour or so. I don't understand why this happens but I am 100% confident that this was the source of all the problems.
I Still have to archive my texts as I notice it starting to slow down when I reach about 500ish. Very Annoying.
Murg
Try as follows:
Get a junk cleaner and clean all temps
Get SKTools do a Autoclean and switch on all shadow-background services.
This might help to get Your HD2 running smooth as mine for weeks .............
