I guess it is bad luck following me with my Wzard.
I use computer screen cleaning tissues to clean my wizard and yesterday i fugured the my buttons MESSAGING en INTERNET explorer have peeled the paint, now they do look UGLY.
This is just a warning to other clean maniacs, better wipe with damp cloth NEVER with chemicals.
and so, any ideas how i can recover that? I am in depression now over that
Thats a real bummer. I think the only thing you could do is send it to be replaced by someone who fits screens etc who may have a spare one or rub the paint off completely so its just the silvers casing.
It shouldnt look out of place then and its not like you dont know what the buttons do. If anyone asks you had it custom made
I wouldn't get too depressed - over time that paint is going to come off I'm afraid. The soft keys (left and right) on my 2 month old MiniS have long since lost their paint - and I'm pressing them on average maybe 9 or 10 times a day?
If you really don't want to use chemicals you should consider a lint-free cloth. I wouldn't recommend using a wet cloth (i.e. water) as it's more likely to just move dirt around and not likely to remove grease as efficiently.

Don't feel bad mate, both of my Wizards have gone the same way. I don't use cleaning chemicals, but I do regularly wipe the screens after each call to clean the oil that builds up from skin contact, and I'm sure it's the oil that's a big contributer to the demise of the paint... Once all four buttons (mail, IE and softkeys) have gone the same, you wouldn't know the paint had ever been there.

Hi Champs,
the Keyboard on my MDA Vario (T-Mobile) is very loose.
Meaning, that it slides out nearly by itself
Is there any way to make it harder / tighten it? Has someone done it and can explain on How To (maybe with pictures)?
Thanks in advance!
Oliver
Sorry that I do not have any solution for you and share your concern.
It is unfortunate that HTC did not learn anything from the Blue angel. I had the i-mate pda2k (blue angel) and it too had similar loose keyboard problem. Now we have the brand new Wizard and the same loose keyboard.
In the end I think it is our fault (myself included) because whatever they make we are prepared to spend our hard earned money on it
Just my views
Kind Regards
Noone has any tips or tricks to help on this?
It is getting worse! And T-Mobile claims that this is normal and will not exchange it :-(
Oliver
I did it once
Hi Oliver,
I did it once, my wizard wasn't to loose and in fact I didn't wanted to tight the keyboard but I feel it more tight after I disassembled my wizard (trying to fix the center-not-working problem of the touchscreen) I think that what did the trick was to tight the srews that support the screen when you open the keyboard (you won't be able to see them without disassembling). I whould advise you to search for some pics of the wizard disassembled and look for those srews.
PS: I see is a old post, wish it helps or already fixed =)
See the little bumps in this picture (red circles around them)?
Build those bumps up with some very thin coats of clear epoxy, or even with a very hard clear nail polish (allow to dry over night, either way, before closing the keyboard). That should keep your phone shut.
It'll still slip like a sweaty whore on a greased air mattress once you clear those bumps, but it should keep your phone shut until you want it open. You can do the same thing at the other end, but you'll have to disassemble for that, and if you're doing that, you might as well try Edgar's suggestion first, anyhow.
get this: when i use the **** button on the keyboard, it keeps locking in to shift mode. i then would have to hold shift to typ normally then relase shift to type a symbol. so one cone say the shift function is working in reverse. is there a fix?

Start a new thread, this one is about loose keyboards, not stuck buttons.
But to answer your question: Disassemble your phone and clean it thoroughly. Use cotton swabs or lint-free cloth, and isopropyl alcohol, and keep at it until you don't see any streaks or debris on anything. Blow completely dry with canned air, or allow to air dry overnight before applying power. Any streaks mean you still haven't got the dirt off (you just smeared it around). Once it's super clean, reassemble and test. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised by the improvement in the performance. Some get by without disassembly just by hitting the gaps in the buttons with canned air, but that's only a temporary fix.
I had my XDA Exec in its pouch and carried in my leather jacket pocket whilst on my motorbike on the motorway.
It started to rain heavily but I thought the phone would still stay dry.
Anyway, when I got home, water had managed to leak into the jacket and through the pouch and the Exec was pretty wet.
I left it to try, but now have the following problems.
1) Screen turns off when used in landscape mode and only works in portrait. Its like the device just turns off.
2) The device seems to slowdown like there are many apps running and the only way to speed it up is to soft reset.
3) My backspace key only works when I press it down hard.
So can this all be repaired, and where do I take / send the device. I'm in the UK.
Thanks for any help.
IMMEDIATELY remove the battery. open the device if you have the tools and let it dry for TWO WEEKS.
Most water damage would be easy to remedy if it were not for an overzealous user switching the device back on way too early.
hmmm though i agree with the advice of taking the device apart i do not agree with just letting it stand for two weeks, that will let the motherboard 'rust'.
mineral spirits and alike are great for cleaning the chips, be very carefull not to use to much for that will also create damage. worst case scenario this will remove any signs of water damage then u can claim on warrenty.
For anyone who's interested, I was beginning to see minor scuffs on the clear part of my X7501's keyboard. I used Meguiar's #10 Clear Plastic Polish, which removed ALL traces of the offending blemishes. I am NOT recommending you use this anywhere else on your devices, especially the screen as I have not tried this myself.
I have also started placing one of those blue micro-fiber cloths Pocket PC Techs sends out with their screen protectors between the PDA and keyboard when closing the case. It fits perfectly and eliminates all contact between the two. I'm sure any cloth in-between will do, cut to size and sufficiently thin enough to allow proper closure.
hello.
where can I buy this product to remove the scruffs of te keyboard?
can yu indicate a webstore? im from Portugal...
best regards
Deiota
Autoparts stores usually carry the Mequiar's products.
I didn't try it myself, but i heard that this product works very well too.
Hi all,
My wife spilled a glass of beer on my PDA, and now the top front buttons don't react like before. Sometimes you don't hear the 'click' and you can feel like they got stuck.
The keyboard looks fine, so the problem is only the with the top buttons at the front of the PDA.
Have anybody tried to take apart this PDA? Would be easy to open it and clean everything before putting everything back?
Thanks a lot
I completely soaked my Ozone about a week after I got it... knocked it in the sink. I like to think that I was among the first to void my warranty, Lo..l?
The phone is really well constructed for what you need to do. All of the critical electronics are very well shielded on the board, nothing difficult about separating the board from the case.
Six 'star drive' screws on the case (that's where the warranty sticker is), one tiny phillips on the board - board pulls up off of pins, away from the usb connector and Bob's your uncle. The keypad is not fastened to the case, pull it right out.
Watch the ribbon cable for the lcd - I would not recommend disconnecting it. there should be enough play to allow you to work. Make sure you're working in a really clean environment, and check the inside of the plastic lcd cover obsessively right before reassembly. If you're anything like me that one little catpet fiber or cat hair or whatever the hell will drive you to take the phone apart again 4 days later...
Sorry about the ramble... it's late. Short answer is: Nothing to it.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot for your post. It was really helpful.
I will probably try it this weekend.
I'll post here the results
Cheers
So if I wanted to buy a different color keypad (dont like the green) it shouldnt be hard to take apart??...I change screens in Env/Voyagers a bit so have a little knowledge...
Ok so I've had a TD2 for 8 months now.
Had it is a soft rubber case for all its life. But my touch screen has started doing funny things. When I try to scroll the screen jumps back to the previous position and when I try and click on a button it doesn't recognize it.
Then I had a look at the So I thought it was the protective layer on the screen so I removed it only to find that the there is a thin line of oily like fluid under the glass of my phone. I think this is screen delamination.
Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?
Know how criminal the Cell companies are in my country this will never be under warranty.
Does any have any thoughts for me. I'm going to try take it back. Though I have hardSPL the phone.. so not sure what the right steps are to change it back.
hello.
yesterday i ripped off genuine protective layer too. when tried to scroll, had strange reaction- view jumped in oposite to scroll direction. after longer inspection, under protection film, discovered ?condensated? water, so ripped shield and reattached again. worked for few minutes, and after needed to repeat same procedure again. after few rippofs- edges of film doesn't cling any more, so i trow out this film. without film device works very well, and now i think about:
1. buy cheap protective films in 10-20 packs;
2. buy expensive/very strong protection film (do not remember name, know from advertisement- usa military uses)
3. do not use protection at all.
For weak or two, i'll try working without protection. Working with stylus ~3 hours per day (usualy reading books), without stylus (answering call's, copying files, chating, browsing internet, etc), keeping in pocket without keys .
today discovered that same splashes of liquid without protective film. they where smaller and disapeared when i slightly squized phone sides.
You all have collapsed your screen.
The oily film under the screen is referred to as newton rings.
Search for "Topaz screen replacement".
A quick fix is to stick duct tape to it and try to seperate the layers.
If you have HSPL and wish to return it under warranty, you must flash your original ROM then flash stock SPL, however they will not cover the screen and will charge you for the repair anyway.
Thanks Guys
Well I took it in ... and we'll see.
Just a little bummed I really looked after that phone well... little too expensive to replace every 8 months...
Anyway
