Ok so I've had a TD2 for 8 months now.
Had it is a soft rubber case for all its life. But my touch screen has started doing funny things. When I try to scroll the screen jumps back to the previous position and when I try and click on a button it doesn't recognize it.
Then I had a look at the So I thought it was the protective layer on the screen so I removed it only to find that the there is a thin line of oily like fluid under the glass of my phone. I think this is screen delamination.
Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?
Know how criminal the Cell companies are in my country this will never be under warranty.
Does any have any thoughts for me. I'm going to try take it back. Though I have hardSPL the phone.. so not sure what the right steps are to change it back.
hello.
yesterday i ripped off genuine protective layer too. when tried to scroll, had strange reaction- view jumped in oposite to scroll direction. after longer inspection, under protection film, discovered ?condensated? water, so ripped shield and reattached again. worked for few minutes, and after needed to repeat same procedure again. after few rippofs- edges of film doesn't cling any more, so i trow out this film. without film device works very well, and now i think about:
1. buy cheap protective films in 10-20 packs;
2. buy expensive/very strong protection film (do not remember name, know from advertisement- usa military uses)
3. do not use protection at all.
For weak or two, i'll try working without protection. Working with stylus ~3 hours per day (usualy reading books), without stylus (answering call's, copying files, chating, browsing internet, etc), keeping in pocket without keys .
today discovered that same splashes of liquid without protective film. they where smaller and disapeared when i slightly squized phone sides.
You all have collapsed your screen.
The oily film under the screen is referred to as newton rings.
Search for "Topaz screen replacement".
A quick fix is to stick duct tape to it and try to seperate the layers.
If you have HSPL and wish to return it under warranty, you must flash your original ROM then flash stock SPL, however they will not cover the screen and will charge you for the repair anyway.
Thanks Guys
Well I took it in ... and we'll see.
Just a little bummed I really looked after that phone well... little too expensive to replace every 8 months...
Anyway

Hello There everybody....
I have been using htc tytn sn ht628 from the begining of the september and the sa probs started to occure after 2 week or so....it generelly occure when the device got hot due to recharge or using for some time and also when i try to clean the screen with a soft cloth....so i tried all the methods discribed here like flashing particular rom or keeping 20 mb free on phone!!! or loosing the two screw on the back of keyboard...but nothing helped me...the sa probs do get back again and again due to hotness or pressure on screen when cleaning the screen....
then i tried the business card method.....and removed the fomes that was glued with the screen and casing....but alas it lasted for some hours only....i have to do the same thing again and again...so finally i got frustated and sold my tytn to one of my friend...(i could not go for warrenty easily as i brought it from usa and i live in south asia..) and then i brought a dopod 828pro with serial sn ht639 3 weeks ago when i was returning from malaysia after a business visit....
but the sa probs get back to that new device too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just after 2 days...but i have left malaysia within that time so i am unable to claim for warrenty now....
from my frustation i had been almost decided to open the set completely and use the method described in two japanise site where they mentioned to remove the foam and use some small sized foam...but that also instied me as it will void the warrenty and im not that of expert on opening set so anything might happen...
so finally i decided to apply my own method (actually not my own method but the combination of all the existing method...) and walla... i got wonderfull success now i have two perfectly working hermes (tytn and dopod 838pro) which where used to have sa probs....now they dont show any sa probs even due to excessive hotness of 3-4 hour use and charging not even for hard pressure on screen due to cleaning or so...i am using both set extencievely (one me and one my friend) for more then 13 days now after fixing it and they are working like angel.....i was thinking to share the methods here as you all helped me on many things over long time...i waited those ten days to make sure everythings working ok and sa probs dont came back....and for 100% confarmation....
now here goes the steps that i used to fix the two set.....
1)open the two (2) small screw located on the back of the keyboard...
2)Use a hard and sharp business card (i used prepaid scratch card i got when i do refill my mobile) to clean the foam and loose the screen from the casing...you will see a noticiable empty space between screen and casing if all the foam is clean....you will be needed to do this step a number of time to make sure everything is clean...you actually need to do this thing in both side of the screen (left and right)
3)Now the actual thing that i used from my own thoughts...i cut two piece of that business card i used in step two (in my case the prepaid plastic scratch card which is thin and hard ) and pushed them in the empty space of both side of the screen (left-right) that been created in step two....the size of the piece is small enough to get inside of the hole and hide its presence when you look straight to the screen you can only see its pressence when you will look from one side....also make sure the length is not two long mine size is like 10/1 size of the whole screen length and the wideness it also importent make sure to push it as far as it go to the end of the casing..so that its presence is unoticed...also make sure the tickness is not two much so that the screen and casong doesnt get two much presure....
4)now put those two screw again you can tight it up but dont tight too much...
This two piece stoped the screen from getting in touch of the casing body and as a result the sa probs is gone permenantly for good....i can assure you that this will work 10000% for sure i tested it in both of the hermes verient....
now if you got any more question then you can ask me or if you like me two take a picture of the procedure or the plastic piece i used then i will post it here...
Thanks
BR.

I'd say: Show me the pictures ...
I've got a Vario 2 HTC635 and only had SA problem after i cleaned the screen to apply the screenprotector. After a reset/reallignment the problem was gone since so I think you're right about pressure to the screen.
Also i've done the business card trick just to be sure it wont happen in future.
I wonder how this does not void your warranty?
Just for opening up the device does that (tho no-one can tell if you had done it), but surely, if you remove foam or anything else from the phone.
I'd think that any kind of modification to the phone, will catch the eye of service guys and after they have done the repair, they will send a bill.
On the other hand, if the phone works without any issues during the warranty time with that modification, hell with the warranty.
picture please.
Well, you don't need to remove any of the tamper tags with this method so unless the device gets close scrutiny beyond that, the chances are that it'll go under the radar, especially if you remove the shims prior to sending it back.
If I understand this procedure correctly this is what you're saying.
1. Remove the screws.
2. Take a thin rigid card-like material and push it between the cover and screen on both the left and right sides of the Hermes screen (when held upright) to dislodge the adhesive.
3. Afterward, wedge a screen length piece of the thin card-like material between the screen and cover on both the left and right sides of the screen to prevent the screen from touching the case in the future causing the SA problem to come back.
If I have this correct I may try it this afternoon.
some pictures would be nice
what is the length of the card pieces that you placed between the screen and the body before tightening the screw? was it one tenth of the length of the screen?
as I said please post some pictures, it would help
Thanks
yes the length is like 1 tenth of the screen size...i will post a picture of the plastic lateron that i used...
I've had serious SA issues, I just tried this.
Of course, I also lost one of the screws *grrr*
I'll let you know how it works, though!
edit: found the screw on the floor with the help of the tytn's camera LED .
Sounds true...
Actually I had the screen alignment issue and after applying a screen protection and therefore "pushing a bit" the display it is gone (hold thumbs)
Just thought I'd report that my screen has been fine (after doing this) for the past 24 hrs, a new record .
hey pkx glad to hear that my hack worked for you...im now on 15th day and im not having even a slight screen mis allignment after the hack even giving hard pressure on right side of the screen is not making any misallighment...so its now safe to say that god freed me from the sa problem curse....
sajib
I woke up this morning and my screen was misaligned .
So it's not a permanent problem for me, but it helped considerably.
1) what do you use to loosen the screws? mine looks like a 6-pointed star
2) pictures!
The screws in mine are Phillip yours are Torx based on your description. My guess would be a size thats between T-4 and T-6. I haven't done it yet so no pics.
ah torx! i knew it! i thought you only use torx on screws with messed up heads.
now where to get that screw
please,send me the pictures...

ok i am going to post a picture tomorroaw as my camera is not at my hand right now..
and to clearify one thing more u need to use a bit of fatty card to resist the screen to get in touch of the casing..mine is like 2 time thick then of the thickness of a standard sim card...i thing it will help..

Sajib: thanx a lot for trying to help us with this annoying problem. I removed the two screws that appear under the screen when I slide out the keyboard. But I couldn´t loose the screen from the casing since apparently there are two more screws hidden between the keyboard and the screen. I don´t understand how you did it. Can you please explain me with more details???? I am aligning the screen at least 6 times a day!!! Thanx!
I need some help..
If i understand correct, just relax the screws, put the plastic to the both sides (left and right) between the screen and the front panel(WITHOUT disassembling the whole case) and then tight the screws back to the original state. Is that correct?
Also i deleted some files to get more than 10mb free space and that helped me alot
But when i clean the screen there is small change in the screen position so i still may need to do the hax.
Thansks in advice and sry for my bad english
Hi there,
I broke my touch screen and tried to replace it by myself.
To make a long story short, I failed miserably (I broke the screen under).
However, I learned a few things I didn't met in the forum.
A- Disassembly of the case.
1- The Legend is glued. So, you have first to use hoven to melt the glue before being able to do anything useful.
15min/ 60 degree in the oven. Or use an hair dryer (I used the former).
2- Don't forget to remove ALL the screws (even the one behind the IMEI notice).
3- Don't try to open the camera lid before loosening the glue or you'll damage the aluminium body.
4- You have to unplug all the différent cables, so take notes to remember where all of them goes.
5- You must disassemble all the boards. There are 2 boards. One supporting the sim / SD connector, and one supporting the screen/touchscreen.
6- When disassembling the screen board, remove it by pulling the touchscreen at the bottom, and lift it up. don't pass a tool on the sides to remove it or worse, under the touchscreen, you'r tool will touch the screen under and break it (like I did). The screen is very, very fragile
Now, I'm stuck here because I can't remove the connector of the legent which is passed under the shield on the back of the screen.
I'm not able to remove the screen so I would like to know how to remove this shielding or get back the touchscreen connector to be able to replace it.
Once I figure out how to remove this shiled, I may be able to remove the screen too.
But now, I'm clueless (it was 2 in the morning when I gave up).
Maybe, some of you knew the trick to open this phone further.
I'd like to hear about it.
A little up to my post for the ones who did not read it till the end:

mate it sounds like you have trashed your phone.they are built NOT to be taken apart. They require special tools and process to be repaired. The only thing i would suggest is contacting your insurance company and let them know that your phone was crushed under a car or something and then crush it under the car and you can get it replaced. If you dont have insurance, take some out and make a claim in say a month or two.
Its not an honest thing to do but your phone sounds busted and its the cheapest way of replacing that handset.
Post a pic of it if you can
Unfortunately, I have no rights to post a link or some put some pics.
Something about spam and profile that should be reviewed before being able show any pics.
This device is glued. No specialized tools are able to open it without removing it.
That would mean that the phone cannot be repaired, only replaced. My phone's motherboard was replaced, so at the service stations they should have special tools.
Fixed it!
Bottom right hand corner:
Bend the shielding back just enough to allow you to slip the connector in & then use a little glue to stick it back.
Maybe I was lucky, but my phones working as good as new again
I fixed my Legend
Guys, I know it's been a while since you talked but in case someone else is looking for this info, that's what happened to me:
I cracked the display of my legend and purchased a new one on eBay (roughly 40 pounds) - obviously delivered from Hong Kong but a genuine Samsung (in case you didn't know the Legen's screen as well as most of the AMOLED screens are Samsung's).
Then I used the above information plus some YouTube videos to give myself an idea as to what should I do. The result follows:
I used a hair dryer to heat up the back of the phone (camera and loudspeaker cover). Perhaps I should have been more patient as in the end I decided to use a knife with a very thin blade to lift it and I scratched the plastic and the aluminium body a bit. Anyways - the back clicks in but is glued in addition to that so you have to use both the heat and gently applied force.
Once you remove the back cover (which took me the longest out of everything) you should start removing screws. There's two behind the back cover and six behind the bottom cover (where the battery is). At this stage you don't have to remove all the screws - the bottom two, the one behind the IMEI and the one under the VOID sticker hold the main board but the two screws sitting deeper inside the phone's body hold the front buttons so you may leave them for now.
Now comes the trickiest part so read carefully: the main board is held inside the unibody by the screws (which we already removed), but is also glued right below the camera lens and along the sides. You should probably heat it up as much as you can and for a long time. I decided to do it the hard way. My dislplay was already cracked and it's the most delicate part of the phone so I said "whatever" and used the same knife as before - moved it alongside the screen (pushed it in gently from the front) until there was no resistance (the glue let go). Then I pushed and I heated the thing up and pushed and tried from every angle until finally the board slid out of the unibody. I hope you'll find it easier then I did as it seems that everyone describing it found it quite doable.
Now everything becomes easy-peasy. Remove the remaining screws to put the buttons aside (you'll have both the actul buttons and the tiny board with sensors - the latter sticks to the screen but once you remove the connectors, yu can take it off too). All the connectors are quite easy to remove if you hav a needle or something (just pull them out gently). I didn't worry about noting which is which as ther is practically no way you can mix them up - they're very different.
The rubbery plastic black surrounding of the board clicks in, so once you find the right spots you can lift them gently and take the thing off. You'll be left with the display covered by the shielding from the top and a thin metal board from the bottom. You have to remove two more screws to disconnect the main display plug.
And the final bit (that's where the thread's author had a problem I believe). My display was cracked but the shielding - fine. These two are glued together so I had to find some space for my finger nail and lift the shield. By slowly and gently pulling it apart I detached one from the other - and had to do the same thing with the metal board. Don't forget there's some extra stuff to remove from the back of the display - they're all glued but the glue will remain fresh enough for you to glue them again - this time to the new screen. The same applies to the front shield. I hope you won't let any dust sit on it in the meantime. You should have a screen protector on your new display if you bought it like I did. Remove it now and the display will be happy to stick to the old front shield just as if it was always there. The metal back will also fit in.
Now you can go through the above process backwards - just remember to connect all the connectors.
What I didn't do: I didn't use ANY glue putting the phone back together. As an effect the front shield is sticking out a bit (doesn't sit in the unibody tightly). It doesn't affect the phone itself but it gives you the funny feeling that something isn't 100% right. But I prefer that than screwing something up with a misuse of glue (glue can be disobedient).
The most important piece of information: the phone is working 100% correctly as if it was never disassembled by an amateur. Apart from two scatches on the back, the VOID sticker missing, the front sticking out slightly (less than a mm) and the missing battery slider (which I forgot to put back in and didn't bother to repeat the whole process for the sake of it) - there is nothing wrong with the phone. So if you ever crack you ever crack your Legend's screen - you can try fixing it yourself if you have the courage.
I would like to see some photos too But I'm never gonna take my phone apart - can't see the point
Foto's
Nice thread, i myself am wondering, if a better gsm antenna can be fixed inside the phone. and connect them to the 2 connections.
Do you have any pictures of the inside housing etc?
I've noticed a defect on my screen, it looks like a watermark, as if the glass hasn't been coated correctly.
I took the phone back to the shop today and swapped it for another which has the same issue (although not so severe). It's most noticable when the screen is off in bright light.
I'm waiting for new stock to arrive Friday but in the meantime has anyone else noticed this problem?
Nope. Everything fine here. (Or at least I can't find anything )
Ah great, I was thinking it was just me.
I can see it in mine too, around the borders of the glass and especially around the windows button. It mostly shows up when there's fingerprints on the glass, you can see a distinct lighting change around the affected areas.
I'll try to get a picture of it.
Ah ok, found it.
But I don't think that this is a defect or sth.,
My guess: These areas lipophobic? Maybe there was some glue on it? Some you won't see any fingerpints on these areas. This would eplain why you can't see them when there are no fingerprints on the screen.
No big deal for me tough.
I don't think it's glue. It looks like a screen coating.
I've tried removing it with both isopropyl alcohol and thinners and neither would touch it.
I thought it was a plastic cover to peel off - but no
Me too, I thought it was a plastic cover to peel off - but no it does not peel off, i have air gaps under the edges on 3 sides - and the largest is under the htc screen logo :-(
Me too - one long finger top left and some other places bottom and side
pretty sure its some sort of glue residue - you can feel a slight change in resistance
can see it easily by blowing on glass - seems to resist condensation
looks just like screen has been given a quick wipe to clean and they've missed a couple of bits top and bottom.
tried screen wipes and opitcal wipes but no effect
Me too
Recieved mine yesterday, immediately noticed the effect. All along the bottom by the buttons, and along the the left hand side.
Looks like 2 layers didn't completely bond perhaps? The glass and whatever provides the black background.
Tim
me as well, ill upload a video of mine in half an hour, its pretty bad on mine, most of the time it isn't visible. and yeah resistance on that area is different when i rub my thumb hard over the screen it is smooth, but over those droplet like parts there is friction..im guessing that most of my screen is coated and those bits are mistakenly not.
(i thought it was the other way round before)
VIDEO OF SCREEN DEFECT-VIMEO
Same issue here - like an air bubble just beneath the surface of display. My device is slightly affected across the top edge, which is not so bad, but there is a large blob just below the windows key along the bottom edge which is a little distracting. Shame it looks like HTC shipped with such a widespread product defect, as this appears it could be.
Am also finding GPS very flaky - location services more often then not just don't work.
Still, very impressed with WP7. Think HTC could do better ... am wondering what the Samsung is like and what the Venue Pro will be like. Tempted to switch!
same issue here. seems all devices have this feature ...
ps: today in the office i checked again the screen and found out that you can find this bubbles around the screen everywhere. seems it reacts on humidity. strange ...
I've been back to the Vodafone store today as they had received new stock. Both handsets we looked at had the same issue.
The manager at the store said that HTC were going to be issuing a recall and that they were aware of the problem.
I am awaiting a call regarding an alternate replacement.
Ok for me!
same here, especially around bottom left corner, around the left arrow.
I noticed when you wipe the screen hard it disappears, but after a few touches of the screen it appears again.
I wrote to the HTC also and waiting for the reply :
same here - allaround the screen

i think everyone have this problem, specilly from vodafone. and i also have software issue, everytime after using the marketplace, and the icon of some apps were gone, and no preview of the pictures. also the apps download from marketplace not seems to be running, after long time use.....already retun the phone to vodafone, and waiting for the issue to be solved...
My screen is ok. Well, not really oké. Since they didn't put a slcd on it, but a worser screen... Luckily no bubbles. I checked it 1000s times in all kind of lights and darknesses and with and without finger prints. But no bubbles here.
Same problem !!!
I have the same Problem (Austria, A1)
HTC Trophy
Hi,
Same problem here, bottom and one in the top.
Vodafone Portugal here :-(
I bought mine 2 weeks ago. Will Vodafone give another phone?
Thank you.
I have looked high and low for Legend disassembly instructions in order to replace my screen (Digitizer) I finally found instructions on how to disassemble the HTC Legend and replace the screen thanks to allerien's post in the XDA forums 11th March 2011, 07:17 PM. There are no YouTube videos yet that I know of that actually show u how to remove and replace the screen so this is a step by step guide tat will help alot of user's including me.
Thanks Allerien

Isn't it possible to just exchange the glass along with with the digitizer? I myself need to replace the digitizer, because mine went quite unusable after an accident with water..
Either way this was a nice guide which i will make use of!
great info my legend has only a broken digitizer so i will be replacing that soon
So I've been using my N7 on and off since I bought it in January. I would've used it more if it wasn't for the fact that the touchscreen responded really bad to touch and freaked out every now and then. It even almost bought an app on its own in the play store once. As I bought it through a retailer in another country I figured I would try to fix the problem myself - and I did kind of.
I tried a lot of things that people suggested in other threads here on xda, reddit, youtube, etc. but the only thing that seemed to work somewhat was tightening the screws around the edges after opening it up. The problem still persisted to some degree and got worse again after a few weeks.
After opening it up again a few weeks ago to fiddle around with the screws again I realized something - the phantom touch problem was gone and the screen had perfect response whenever I was handling it with the back cover off. So I put it in a case without putting the cover on first and I've been using it like that ever since - this leaves the wifi/gps/etc. without a grounding connection though, and I also prefer to use it without a case so my question is this:
Has anyone had the back cover apply pressure/mess with the touch screen in any way?
I have no screen lift at all, but these are the methods I have tried:
Tightening screws(worked somewhat)
Loosening screws(didn't work)
Putting a small piece of paper between the black cable that apparently connects the touch screen and the circuit board in case it was causing a short there due to pressure or something(didn't work)
Additional info: Whenever I remove the back cover, the only place where I have to apply some extra pressure to get it loose is right around where the aforementioned black cable is.

Hmm, have you checked the N7 under a florescent tube light? You should try to view the light's reflection on the n7's screen. It should be 'mirrored perfectly'. If the reflection of the light is crooked/bent, this means your screen is no longer flat. Ie. A flat mirror should show your reflection as it is. A curved mirror will distort the reflection.
If the screen is heavily distorted, this could mean the touch sensors are also 'bent' and touching the screen internals.
Check the reflection with cover on, and also cover off.
If with the cover off the n7, the screen seems to be 'flatter'. Then we could conclude the screen is fatigued by stress somehow by the attachment of the covers. If it somewhat same, then the problem is something else.
Since the cover provides ground points for the n7 circuit and it's antennas, maybe you should try cleaning the contact points on the cover side. There should be grooves made by the contact pins from the n7 on the cover, over time they might oxidize and cause a short circuit.
It is possible the touch mechanism is not being properly grounded somehow.
PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL if you are going to clean the contact pins on the n7 side, they are small and very brittle.
Try to see if anything on the cover is touching the circuit board or creating a short circuit somewhere when installed.
These are the 2 causes i can think of. I had this problem too, i loosen some screws and re-check under a florescent light to see it's reflection, and i re-loosen or tighten until the reflection is nearly perfect (screen should be flat and reflecting like a mirror), if not it is bent by stress from screws being too tight or loose at some points.
Then i also cleaned the contact points and pressed the aluminum 'heatsinks' on the n7 side to make sure they dont contact anything else. I did both the same time, following by a switch in ROM and Kernel. So i'm not sure which actually helped. I'm sure i took some stress off the screen by the reflection thing. The grounding also makes sense as an intermittent ground causes stuff to f-up (my car) lol. But you may try n see how it goes. Cheers.
