Change ROM from O2 EXEC to? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi!!
Biught 2 weeks ago an O2 Exec. I like the device although I find it too slow for my everyday use.
Would like to change to a faster ROM. I see on the forum suggestion to use the Jasjar version, and want to try that.
Few questions?
1) Does the Jasjar version have the smartdialing function? I have more then 500 contacts and I really like the feature of pressing the keypad to retrieve contacts
2) The Exec is consuming far too much power (or better say the battery provides too little power to the unit) in my opinion. I continue to receive "Main battery very low" even during the charging process.
Is there a way to disable the notifications?
Thanks and a happy new year!

Problems with the magician?

Hi guys. I post quite a bit in the Blue Angel section of this forum.
My BA is probably the worst device I have ever used in terms of both software and hardware issues. I'm surprised they're allowed to sell it.
My question is, Are there any common problems with the iMate Jam?
Like anything alot of these devices suffer from? 76% of BAs have the 'no sound in call' problem, and alot seem to have the whictling screen/serious bluetooth issues. Anything like this on the Magician I should know about before buying?
Cheers -Mike
Hi, ive had my Jam since middle of jan 2005, and my GF got one soon after so i have had two to play around with, and ive been reading forums fairly extensively since then. I have used roms 1.03, 1.06, 1.11 and i am now runnin 1.12 without any major problems. i have seen a few people complain of various sound issues, which I believe are either a hardware fault (such as a loose mic), or are resolved with Roms 1.11 or 1.12, or even just a hard reset (i have experienced low volume from loud speaker which was solved by a hard reset). Alot of people complain of the not reconnecting gprs issue which i have also experienced on roms 1.11 and 1.12 (it was one of the deciding factors for me upgrading to 1.12) it seems to happen where it tries to send two connections at once and times it self out, I find it to be intermittent, and resolved with a soft reset. Bluetooth has been more troublesome I must say and I only use it for handsfree, so I cant comment on AS connections. I use Buzz_Lightyears SwitchIT software (Buzz you RULE) to turn my BT on/off from my today screen. ROM 1.06 had major issues with BT and required a patch, which helped somewhat with the issue. roms 1.11 and 1.12 very occasionly have issues with BT which again are usually sorted with a soft reset, and once working will stay working untill a soft reset causes them to not work, and a another soft reset is required. BT has issues with being out of sync with the GSM radio i find eg. if BT is on while the radio is off and i soft reset i usually get an issue with BT. Photo Caller ID is intermittent i find, which is possibly because of having the photos in storage space, I'm not really sure and to be honest is not a huge problem anyway.
So yeah there is common problems across the Jam/magician range. however I love my Jam and wouldn't swap it for any other device on the market because for a convergence device which runs an MS operating system (blue screen of death!!! MS are far from perfect) I find 98% of the time its stable and does more then I need. is it perfect??...no, should it be?? we all wish...
Cheers dude! I think I will get one. So long as we're not into Blue Angel territory of 5 soft resets required a day, no sound during calls, random hard resets and bluetooth when it feels like it.

well Imate manual reckons talk-time of 3-5 hours, 190 hours standby, and once it switchs off with flat battery warning you got 72 hours before it hard resets . anyway heavy use will see you charging it at the end of the day (I usually just sync when i get home). with a few short calls over a weekend it will usually last the weekend. And as your probably aware li-ion batteries like to be charged.

As expected I suppose. I don't understand why HTC devices have such turd battery life compared to sony ericsson devices and such.
Does anyone know if it takes Blue Angel handsfree or Himilaya handsfree?

It's like comparing an Toyota Prius to a Porsche (the Ericsson being the Prius). They both do the job with style, and they are both fine technical achievements. But one of them will drain your gas account a little bit faster than the other.

If u know how to tweak ur magician and deal with it..it will turn into a killer device...
even with the bad quality of the camera, U can manage to take great photos... and with some phtotoshop editing they will be really awesome..
battery life us very good...especially when listening to MP3s ( basically, it consumes 10% of the battery for every hour with the screen off, and using high quality headset)
I use my JAM mainly as MP3 player and a medical reference
BT is good for sending files only as well as hands-free, other profiles are not available...
memory isn't that small, with the proper tweaking, u can get up to 32 MB of free RAM after a soft reset....of course compared to ur Blue Angel, this is very low, but I believe it is more than enough for me -as a JAM user -
if u need to know any thing else, please ask
cheers
I'm very happy with my O2 Xda II mini. It does everything I need it to do. I have not had any sound problems at all. The only issue I had after a ROM upgrade was the GPRS cannot connect problem, which has now been resolved by downgrading just the CallerID program.
Aside from that, I feel it is a killer device.
Cheers for all the help guys!! I really appreciate it. Think I'll give the magician a go
About Magician Probs
For the list of probs, I get two number for incoming calls: the caller and a private number?!? But this is just a very little prob.
In a thread I've described that my magician simply won't start when is cold. COULD SOMEONE TRY THIS MESS IS SERIOUS!!!
And for the prob of the GPRS: ok, but I don't have CallerID and DON'T want to install it. MUST I install I to eliminate this prob?
I love my magician. Is my wonder machine...
If you do not stop the extrom from installing after a hardreset, CallerId will be automatically installed on your device. For some reason HTC have chosen to name the link in the start menu "Photo Contacts" instead of CallerId.
If you want a more Blue Angel like device (with regards to size and features of the Blue Angel) I would recommend the Alpine. I'm personally not using it because I prefer the smaller size of the Magician but the Alpine is full featured and from what I read from some other users in germany, almost bug free. Especially bluetooth is said to work great, better than (and with more profiles due to the Widcomm stack) the Microsoft Stack of the Magician. It also features the 1,3 MPix camera, a good display, WLan and a faster processor (500 MHz). If you prefer the bigger devices and don't need the keyboard, I think the Alpine rocks.
I've had the Orange SPV M500 variant for about a week now and it's been absolutely flawless.
No no, I decided to skip the installation of CallerID (in the italian devices is called Identità Visitatore -huh?-) but I'm not sure if it's needed to resolve the GPRS prob -downgrading-
Oh, I've got another prob: u MUST know a good program like MortRing to set the ringtone OR windows keep resetting to the standard one.
There are plenty of little probs: to set up the jam correctly, there is the need of a decent regedit and personal experience...
I know the great majority of you chaps think it's wonderful, so please don't take this as a trolling, it's just my opinion.
I've had the orange m500 for 5 days now, and I've had enough. As a windows pda it's fine. Quick, small, nice screen, decent battery life.
As a phone it is awful. The whole interface seems like such an afterthought. You would imagine that it would be easy enough to do basic phone things without having to take the stylus out, but you can't. For example, if you go into the contact book, then click on a contact but get the wrong one, there is no way to go back up a level using hardkeys. You have to click the X in the top corner, which is fiddly to say the least.
That's just one small problem I've had out of quite a few, but it's become quickly obvious to me that a quick and easy-to-use phone is more important to me than an all-singing windows pda, so I have arranged to return it. If your priorities are similar to mine, I would urge you to look elsewhere.
you should try "mamaich's contacts", adds a contact button right to the phone dial pad, and lets you use HW joypad to scroll through your contacts and pages...Its like the missing link I swear. true one handed dialing.
it's found on this board, and is free.

O2 Atom Battery Live

no not atom Live ;-)
just wanna fetchup the battery issue on Atom.* devices.
(refering from thread 290611 )
-=-=-=-=-=-
iam hardcore-user ;-)
so the battery lasts with me just 10-15 hours (max)
but on the road ... with just phone usage (standby) the battery drains so quickly.
its just sad ... just the new o2 plus is such a cool software ...
and well tapping to death until to get where you want is also anoying ...
is there any option to use O2 Plus .. but let it runns more "battery friendly" ??
any suggestions ?
Hi, i have a Xda Atom too. Since two days, my battery drains very quickly in standby mode. It's incredible. Only 15-16 hours.
I have tried to uninstall O² PLUS. Now it's better, but i think that i have left my Pocket PC too many time on his docking station. (I can leave my Atom connecting to PC a few days in a row if i don't use it)
My battery is surely died.
CLaunch works on the Atom. If you really need Today screen shortcuts, then you can use that instead - low memory footprint, negligible hit on battery life.
(Then again, battery life on the Atom has always sucked. Even on an empty Atom, the most I could ever make it last is 1.5 days, and even then, the battery would kinda overdrain once in awhile, until I forcibly pull the battery out, and reinsert it.)
Oh, and the battery that comes with the Atom? After I discovered it was no longer holding its charge (drains 30% overnight), I switched to a third party. The Atom's original Taiwan battery isn't very good - Shame on you, O2 - this third party battery (worcell, SG, Japan-sourced cells) not only solved the strange battery drain issue - it also worked slightly better whilst at the same rating (1-2% improvement in battery drain).
Yep, it's very strange. I think i will buy a new battery. This Atom costs me a lot of money and with a battery like that, this pocket PC is totally useless.
It's just incredible.
If a member has changed his battery by a new one and can give some advices on it, or just posting a reference. Thanks in advance.
tghanks for the update on that ...
well i live in thailand .. here you can buy uncountable of batterys from diffrent manufacturers .. where the sellers not really knows what they sell ;-)
i will spread out and take a look for the japan name .... iam sure to get it here somewhere and update you here about price and possibility to ship somewhere ...
;-)
wish me luck ;-)

I think it's important to keep this thread alive. I'm sure that is the biggest pb of this Pocket PC. It's incredible to develop a such powerful machine without thinking of battery. Thanks 0².

battery for atom
i am in the Philippines, and this is a nice thread because it has opened my eyes to my recently bought atom (2nd hand of course).
I bought it from a friend of mine who was disposing it and I love the o2 phones (I previously owned a mini - 2nd hand from my sister).
This thread showed me that there are battery related problems, and I will keep all that in mind. I have two batteries - the original one and a 3rd party one.
I do have a question, however, how does one properly maintain the battery? when should I charge it? How should I charge it? etc. . . . .
Since the Atoms run on Lithium Polymer batteries, we don't have to worry about charging. Just plug it in whenever you need to charge it. Don't worry about memory effect, or full charge and discharge, and you don't need to prime or condition a new battery. Ah, the beauty of Li-Poly. You just need to full charge-discharge it like once a month to reset the battery charge gauge and make the full charge more accurate.
So O2 Plus is one of the culprits? A shame, O2 Plus has some really good functions. On my old PPC (iPaq 6365) I used vBar as my taskmanager and app closer, but on the Atom Exec I used O2 Plus. But if O2 Plus is no good, I'll try uninstalling it.
But I need a replacement for it. I can try CLaunch, though I don't really need the Today shortcuts. What I need the most is a Taskbar app, and unfortunately I found vBar to be buggy on the Atom (doesn't take the theme color, and randomly crashes) -- it's unknown whether this is an issue with WM5 or the Atom itself, or whether O2 Plus is interfering with it.
Any suggestions for a taskbar manager? I prefer something that displays battery life and lets me manage the memory by shutting down tasks. Preferably like vBar it can quick switch between tasks at the click of a button on the status bar.
***
BTW -- a quick tip to save battery life: I have found that enabling the "Receive All Incoming Beams" makes my standby time a lot shorter. Make sure it's off unless you're trying to get a contact or picture or something from a fellow beamer.
I have some pretty good news to report.
I uninstalled O2 Plus and I seem to be getting better battery life already.
I fully charged my phone and pulled it out of the plug around 8:00am EST this morning. It was at 99%. Over the course of the day I received 5 SMS, sent 6 SMS, played about 15 mins worth of video on TCPMP, used BT to send over a 10MB file to another phone, did some Memmaid Cleaning and played a couple of MP3s and did various PIM tasks and used voice command all throughout and have the backlight set to 4.
And it's now 5:42pm EST and I have 78% battery life left. This bodes well, in the past I would be at like 50% battery life, and heck that's after charging the phone in the office during the day!
Very promising my phone can easily last 3 days like this with this kind of usage if the battery indicator is correct.
To compensate for O2 Plus I instaled pBar instead as my task manager/landscape mode/battery checker.
It's looking good.
This is the stuff I have on my phone:
Adobe FlashLite
TCPMP
Opera
Conduits Pocket Player
Worldmate
Atom Phone Pad
Spb Backup
Tengo Free
Resco Explorer + Today/Registry/FTP Plugin
Dynomite
Bookworm
Memmaid
O2 Keyboard driver
Worms World Party
Chess Genius
Voice Command 1.6
Code Wallet Pro
O2 Phone Plus
i do think so
I'm now using HTC device and been used a while...i found the batter life is definitely a satisfactory concern of part of HTC!! In a word, it's good...but before that i had o2 Atom, and its battery was totally disappointed....
Guys,
i found this to make the standby hours longer...not sure wat it does but no conflict with watsoever
And for task manager i always use wisbar advance
its looks nice and works wonder!! very customizable!! This ver3 used much lesser resource than the ver2 but still in beta mode and expire in less than 2 weeks
hopefully i can find a version that will not expire!!
Cheer!!

thanks for the wonderful idea about the battery. This is my problem before..dont use also SPB mobile shell (if u want a registered copy just PM me,or serial)
try also to reflashed a new ROM created by jiggs(better the evaluation version 1st-there is sms issue in final), fast and stable. Use XCPUscalar and put autoscale so the processor will not be always in a full blast that consume a battery. hope i shared a good ideas to you..thansk to all
Can i use o2 mini or dopod 818pro battrey on my atom exec
SPB mobile shell
Do you think that the SPB mobile shell is infecting the battery life ??
I'm using the SPB phone suite looks ok but my memory is low arround 15MB
And the battery is low after few hours

What about HTC HOME
Battery Life / O2 Plus
Hi All
Reading through this thread it seems that o2 plus is battery loving.
Is there any other software out there that will do the same thing. I use the o2 calender on the today screen and am about to have more than one appointment on the screen. I would hate to lose that feature!
it seems i cant find the O2 plus program here on my phone, the O2 programs are:
O2 Auto Installation
O2 Connect
O2 Media Plus
O2 SMS Plus
which one will prolong my battery life Mochan....
xcpuscalar
ei..don't install xcpuscalar..auto scale doesn't help in battery improvement...they just slow down ur ppc, but still they uses the maximum cpu clock..so it still consume battery a lot.. just use it for overclocking,,not for battery saving...

Newbie with some questions!

Hi y'all,
since a few days I'm the owner of a Qtek S100. The previous owner bought it a year and a half ago and has never updated anything on it.
The ROM is version1.06. (Radio is version 1.05). I've tried to register on qtek.nl to get the latest updates but you have to enter an IMEI-nr during the registration and since my device is from Belgium as is my IMEI, I can't register!
I see that there are different kinds of ROMs circulating so my question is; Which one do I need/ is the best?
Should I install rom and radio apart or does rom contain also radio?
I've heared about a special rom-pack that also has the big storage hack in it. What about this?
Do I also have to install the camera patch? Where can I find it?
I've also heared about a A2DP bluetooth patch..
The sticky about upgrading is kinda outdated and didn't help me much..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aside from this I have some other problems I've encountered. I don't know if they'll be fixed after I update the ROM but here they are;
- how do I lock the buttons/screen? The only thing that seems to work but isn't very convenient is to enable a the password in the settings and check the box next to "prompt if device is unused 1 minute". No plain button/screen lock?
- If the device is on stand-by I don't get any notification that I've received an sms. Only when I disable the stand-by by pushing the power button then I get it. But this could be like half an hour after I've received a message.
- if someone calls me and I end the call, how can I save his/her number to my phonebook?
- If I take of the batterycover the device shuts down. Is this supposed to happen?
-How do you completely shut the device down? If I press and hold the powerbutton (like described in the manual) the backlight dims, if I press it shortly it goes on stand-by.. but how do I turn the device of (without taking of the battery-cover..)
- Is it normal that when my battery is low (10-15%) the bluetooth doesn't work?
- Which 4GB SD-cards are known to work 100% with the Qtek S100?
- I've noticed that the battery is kinda weak/worn out? Where can I find a replacement with a higher capacity?
Maybe I should also say that this is the first time I work with Windows Mobile so don't be too harsh on me
Thanks for helping out!
Anyone?

Okay, I'll make a start with what I know off the top of my head but would recommend a bit of reading here and on MoDaCo.com as all the answers not too difficult to find.
I'm using iMate 1.12 ROM which is the best from that source. I've not tried any other operator/manufacturer versions so can't comment. The radio version will be included and the camera patch is not needed with the latest updates. A2DP patch is here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249219
I recommend pocketMax's screenGuard and phoneAlarm for locking & notifications respectively :
http://www.pocketmax.net/index.html
With the Dialpad on the screen, go to Call History. Press and hold on the number you want to save, first option is Save To Contacts.
Pocket PCs until very recently were designed to never be completely shut down. This is why we have a backup battery. Make sure that you pull the little rubber lug away from the battery before you remove it as you can initiate a hard reset otherwise. This is in the manual.
Bluetooth can be a battery-drainer so I'm not surprised it won't work with that level of juice. I'd try and avoid letting the battery level get that low if possible as the backup only lasts for about 20 minutes. After that you will lose all your data etc.
I use a MobyMemory own-brand 4GB mini-SD in an adaptor. I have had a couple of problems with it but generally it works fine. Today screen plugins installed on the card can be slow to load.
http://www.mobymemory.com/
I'm sure other members here will correct me if there are better answers and fill in the gaps otherwise.
please do search and few readings on this forum... and hmmm i saw some anwers that actually u can get from your xda manual book

WM5 vs. WM6 for 8525?

I read that there's lots of tweaks for WM5 for the 8525, but then I seen mention of a WM6 available, too. I presume it's a free upgrade on the AT&T website, or elsewhere online.
Now for the questions. Which OS works best for this device? Do the tweaks made for WM5 work with WM6 as well? Should I upgrade to WM6, or stay with WM5? For the GPS (maps), does it work with both or just one of the options?
Now for other (off-topic) experiences I have with my new [reconditioned] device.
a) After inserting my SIM card, about an half hour later, I attempted to call an 800 number (to activate a new bank debit card), which it didn't fully connect the call, although the call timer was running. It wouldn't let me end the attempted call, either, so I removed the battery and reinserted it.
b) Exploring the device further, I noticed that some menus didn't close when I tap the "red X" in the corner. I even tried to expand (pull out the keyboard on) the device, but it shows the "red X" of the location from portrait. as well as from the landscape! For example, it wouldn't close the "selecting which size to send photos" option screen. After waiting about a minute, I had to remove the battery to get rid of those screens, which is a major pain to keep removing the battery!
c) Later on, the last phone call that I made wouldn't hang up (end call) -- I even tapped 'End Call' about 5 times, not to mention pressed the red phone icon on the main navigation keys about 3 times. I haven't used the device since, except to place my old Samsung Sync's memory card with pictures, songs, and videos inside it.
The device seems very slow to close/end programs, and I've just received it yesterday! [I have not hacked, tweaked, or done anything else to it, either; I've only set the time, date, and owner's info.] Is this normal for the 8525? Would installing the WM5 tweaks [HTweakC 2.1b] -- or updating to WM6 -- increase the device's response time and overall performance? Or do I have a still faulty, reconditioned 8525?
Sorry for the long questions, I just wanted to give background into the device. Thanks in advance for all help in this matter!
You seem to be way behind as you use WM5. First thing you do after reading this: UPGRADE TO WM6.1
Most tweaks of WM5 will ofcourse work on WM6. WM6 is faster and much much better.
Do you know about soft-reset? No need to take out the battery! Just soft-reset.
And most of your problems of hang-ing can be solved by newer version of Windows Mobile! WM6.1
In case if your new to upgrading, you may read my small guide. If your completely new to Pocket PC, this might help you too. Also, consider using a free taskmanager such as wkTaskMan to close applications completely.
Regards,
Carty..
Carty, thanks for the quick reply!
As a brief background, for about the past 6 months, I was infatuated with the HTC Tilt [8925], because of the built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, 3-MP camera, & media player. Later, from reading other opinions on the 8525 on this board and discovering that it was compatible with GPS services, I decided to "sacrifice" the 3-MP camera, as the 8525 was about $100 cheaper on eBay.
I am pretty new to the Pocket PC, as my cellular device; I have used computers since 1996, though. That being said, it's not even been 24 hours since I've tinkered with the 8525 (as the eBay one never worked at all). I take it that the 8525 is an older device, as I've seen posts dating back to 2006. I just bought one on eBay 2 weeks ago, and had it replaced at an AT&T repair/replace shop yesterday.
I see the reset button on the bottom of the device; I just didn't know when to use it. I presumed it could only be used if the device wouldn't turn on at all. [As you can tell, I'm overly cautious with my new cellular equipment.] Also, I read about the "hard reset" -- holding down the 2 option buttons on the front and then the reset on the bottom of the device; however, I didn't know when to use the hard reset, either.
I will read your tutorials, then will install WM6 ASAP. Then, I will return with my findings. Wish me luck!!
Now I'm having issues with the update of WM6! The device stalls at 11%, then the software returns with the following:
"ERROR [262]: UPDATE ERROR
The ROM Update Utility has encountered communication errors during the update process. The program will guide you step-by-step to recover from the errors so you can continue with the update."
I tried the [Recovery] button 2 more times, following the screens to the letter, but with the same result . . . the software stalls at 11%.
Any ideas? This is very frustrating!!
Man, I finally got it to install WM6! I had to literally remove every single program that was running under my "name" with the XP-MC OS. I even had to "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" the Explorer program and then "open" it (via Task Manager) again! [I didn't restart Windows, though.]
So far, it's back to the align screen, so I'll hope all goes well from there! Be back with more later!
I've made one phone call so far, and it actually did the end call promptly! Thank goodness for small favors! I thought having to do the "flash" about 6 times would have fried the device!
Now that I have the WM6, how do I install the tweaks? Do I copy them to a memory card, to the cell ROM, or something else? I already downloaded "HTweakC 2.1b" but haven't done anything with it yet. What would be my next step to correctly hack the WM6 8525 that I have now? I am a novice at hacking, so talk in layman's terms and please bear with me!

Need help for my O2 atom with camera and battery problem

I have an O2 atom with windows 6.1 by PDAVIET with these problems:
1) Its camera hangs when i start it either from application or button, No preview, but control buttons are there (same problem existed with original windows 5.0 rom).
2) Battery remains always full when on AC power , when seen from start>settings>system>power. But, after removing AC source, it comes at 0%immediately (and still the phone works for fairly long time but cant tell when i need to recharge it as it shuts down without any low battery warning).
Looking for any solution to save this device...or let me scrap this device until I manage to save enough money besides paying for my medical education fees to buy any other new one. Thanks to all of you here for help.
