Video Call Not Working - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
Since I upgraded my ROM to the latest version and installed the Corporate install I can't make Video Calls.
I have installed the CAB files from the O2 Active for the GPRS & UTMS Connections and can browse the net at 3g speeds but can't use Video Calls. Do I need to set up the Video Calling function too?
If not, is it worth reinstalling the Active with a Basic Install? has the Updated ROM helped?
Cheers

O2 3G and GPRS?

Since rebooting my O2 XDA Exec into Corporate mode, I seem to have no GPRS nor 3G setup as neither will connect to send MMS messages - any ideas?
Dude, corporate mode does not install any of your gprs and mms settings.
If you installed this mode to get rid of the dreadful o2 interface, you would be better installing basic mode.
This gets rid of the o2 rubbish but installs your gprs and mms settings.
Fatzzz
If your interested i have made a cab file with just the O2 connections settings app in it. None of the other Active stuff is there. I did try to upload it to tekguru but had problems so i have it on one of my websites here.

Ahhhhh nice one dude, very helpful - just got to hope my area has 3G coverage now!!
Nice one - so after a hard reset you install corporate mode from the extended rom, then install your cab in personal and all will be set up? Does that include MMS as well as I had real troubles getting Pocket Outlook to see MMS account once in corporate mode and soft reset.
Will try it and see how it goes!
Nice one dude,

NO MATE, I think you'll find its BASIC mode as the chap says - Personal will shove all the O2 crap on there, whereas BASIC just puts the GPRS and 3G settings on - just done it and it works fine!!
HOWEVER when I try to start a 3G video call, it states "The 3G network is not available....", I don't quite get this 3G, do I have one connection that is either GPRS or 3G depending on signal, or are there two connections here, if so, how do I use each?
Anyone on O2 managed to get O2 Video Calling to work to another Exec?
Thanks mate!
No, I was referring to Dingo's cab, when you hard reset you select corporate mode with the code 0506 then run his cab, then as he says on his site, click Personal this time as his cab just contains the Connection settings. Just done it and all seems to be working well - thanks Dingo!!
Thanks for the CAB file, Dingo. Will try it out at the next hard reset.
Not sure if its me, but Hotmail from Pocket MSN seems to be playing up now - can anyone else report the same thing? It keeps freezing when I click on it and Pocket Outlook doesn't see the account.

Yep I have tried the O2 Exec to Exec video dialling. It was nice to try, but wasn't that great. And I think its now 50p per minute, so won't be doing it again in a hurry.

No apparently until March its charged at the same price as Voice Calls, also can be part of inclusive minutes for voice calls - after that time it'll be 50p as you say.
My mistake, was told differently by a friend. Still won't use it though, sound was delayed and not very clear.

Glad you find it of use.
The way i do it if i hard reset is after setting up the screen and the O2 stuff is about to install when you get the 3 second countdown i soft reset. This will give you a vanilla install of WM5 on your Universal and none of the Ext ROM will be installed.
This way though you do not get any of the pathces and fixes etc so i selectivly install them from the XDA Exec Ext ROM posted on the xda-dev ftp site
I then install the settings cab i made to enter my O2 Connection settings.
For the most part as described by others above you will probably be best to use corp mode for your initial setup. Then just choose pesonel when you run the CAB i made.
As far as i am aware you can still use this without a hard reset as it only installs the connections app. I have tested on mine and it was ok but would be interested if it works for others.

3G coverage is still a bit thin with O2. If you look at the icon next to your phone signal strength it should read either G or U. If it is G then you are on their NON 3G network, if it displays U then you are on thei 3G network.
I am in a week 3G area at home and mine swaps between the 2 every few minutes.
Ahhhhh interesting...wonder why they chose 'U' for 3G..doesn't quite compute!
Looking forward to playing with 3G at some stage in the future then!

'U' stands for UTMS, which is the system that we call 3G (or 3rd Generation). The 'G' stands for GSM, which is the 2nd generation networks we've all enjoyed using for the last 15 years.

I thought it might be fun too, but the truth is that I know hardly anybody with a video phone, and considering how unreliable the 3G coverage is around where I live (Sussex) it's unlikely to be much use anyway. The whole 3G premise is based on a gimmick IMHO rather than a genuine consumer need. Sure, the data rates are faster and in time this will be a good driver for the technology, but then they charge us a fcuking fortune to use it, so only a handful of people bother. Madness.
Video calling works across networks. I have found many of my relatives have 3 3G mobile phones and are able to receive video calls from me (as on Vodafone video calls are free for a short period and on O2 the rate is the same as voice calls). O2 and Vodafone UMTS download speeds are good (coverage in London is resonable and in Berkshire).
not working
have tried this - I cant connect at all - after hard reseting in corporate then running this cab and setting to personal - it tries to dial mobile web but says it cant connect for an unknown reason - any ideas
Vanilla
works ok on vanilla install - it seems since this thread was started ON hav changed some thing but this cab has no problems after vanilla installl only after corporate - I am gonna run the bug fixing cabs etc in the ext rom manually !!!
My GPRS still aint configured correctly - it connects fine but I get no internet access, its as if the proxy is configured wrong?
Is there a cab that puts the correct 3G and GPRS settings onto my phone without any user configuration required? (and without mucking up my system).

video calls from pc

is this possible in uk.
eg call a 3g mobile and have video call from a pv
when do you mean ?
do you want to call a 3g phone with your 2g phone and do a video call ?
do you want to call a 3g phone with your pc and do a video call ?
do you want to use wifi to connect to the internet on your network
and access a 3g phone that way ?
33g calls
I need to make a 3g video call from a PC and record the video on a PC.
Also recive a 3g video call on a PC and record the video.
SteveW
well
much like you cant just call a normal cellphone over the internet without some sort of portal like skype
you cant do it with 3g
maybe when skype or a service like it do a skype out/in with video streaming you could do it
another way would maybe be a pcmcia 3g card if it have software which support video calls too
Stupid question time:
Can a device such as the Xda Exec offer its Mobile Phone (shall we call it) 'capabilites' as a 'service' over say Bluetooth or USB or whatever?
If it could and this service set up on a COM port, then any connected PC (or whatever) could then connect to and then use this service and hence do as requested? ....
Or am I completely off track here?
Andy
not sure about exec but as i understand
the other older htc devices seem to have their
pda and gsm modules somewhat devided
which is one of the reasons software answering machines dont seem to be able to work on them
so i'm not sure if it's possible for the device to redirect a audio/video stream to the in the case with the exec it's UTMS module
or gsm module if we talk about old 2g devices
but i'm not sure this is the case with the later modules with 2.5G and 3G
and before long i guess video calls with messenger will be possible with
3g phones and or skype
and when such programs are more real general programs streaming audio and video to and from the device running those applications would be much more easy to handle
These services aren't available in the UK yet.
It is offered by SingTel...
http://home.singtel.com/consumer/products/telephony_n_paging/value_added_services/video_call_faq.asp
I think there would be far more demand for Fixed to Mobile video calling than the current Mobile to Mobile offering.

Isn't it more the case that the functionality wasn't in the Microsoft API's rather than the fact that that Windows Mobile is not a realtime OS so dual processors are needed to run the radio and OS independently?
The reason for me thinking this is that you can use Wireless Modem.

GPRS and Phone calls

I upgraded to 2.24 Tmobile official beta ROM. and it seems that I cant get phone calls while im streaming thru EDGE/GPRS not just streaming also like browsing and stuff, phone calls go straight to voicemail, is this how it was on 2.17 or 2.21 ? Because I tought it worked before !!!! Can anyone confirm please...
Can some one please verify regarding this, can some one just try browsing somethign and call them selvs and see if it goes straight tru to voice mail on a diffrent ROM please....
Yozh:
I had an 8125 on the Cingular network running Summiter's 2.17 ROM, and the phone call always interrupted any web surfing I was doing, and/or disconnected IM+ (which uses gprs/edge).
That phone broke (d'oh!) and I got another one that was running the stock ROM. Same thing.
I now have a new 8125, and just upgraded to Summiter's 2.3 ROM (thank you Summiter!), and the phone acts the same.
I've never experienced an issue where the phone call goes directly to voice mail... that I know of.
Very strange, I tought thats what mine used to do before the 2.24 ROM it used to interupt the GPRS session for a phone call. ANyone else that can confirm that this is just an issue in 2.24 ROM ?
Anyone else that can confirm this ?
Or maybe there is a registry setting for this ?
I have always thought it depends on what your gprs connection was doing.
if it is connected but idle, then calls will come through. if it is connected and in use, downloading a file or something, then it won't be interupted by a call.
as far as I know, this is the way gprs was desgined to work. can anyone confirm?
I dont want to go back to the 2.17 ROM just to test this. But it looks like no one out there would do it for me .... I could of sworn that it worked before..
yozh;
I have the same ROM and I DO get my calls, they DONT go to voicemail.
It's not the rom. Its the way GPRS works. Try to download constant packets of data(like streaming a high quality video) ON ANY ROM and try calling you at the same time. it can and it WILL go to voice mail.
That being said, sometimes you might be downloading a lot of data and you phone MIGHT STILL RING! This is because GPRS uses multiple different channels than then one used for voice, but this feature is just a plus, its not something you can always rely on.
Just something i wanted to add: This rom had brought me incredible reliabily on my GPRS connection and, paired with the cingular radio rom, its close to perfect for me. Maybe because with this rom the GPRS is always working full-speed and optimized, pushing the MOST of data it can, calls might be going to voicemail more often than normal? Its just a thought and maybe its a stupid one, but on my understanding the more data its pushing, the greater the chances it will go to voicemail.
Hope that helps.
Strange because MDA is class B device and class b device should
Class B
Class B mobile phones can be attached to both GPRS and GSM services, using one service at a time. Class B enables making or receiving a voice call, or sending/receiving an SMS during a GPRS connection. During voice calls or SMS, GPRS services are suspended and then resumed automatically after the call or SMS session has ended.

thats from http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gprs/class.shtml
So thats kinda strange Im telling you Tmobile is doing something, I need someone with 2.17 or 2.21 to check this please[/quote]
Similar problem with 2.25
I just updated to 2.25 ROM and have a similar problem. In this case, it seems that once I make ANY GPRS connection, the voice channel no longer works. Outgoing call just don't connect and incoming are directed to voicemail. It still indicates a strong signal to the Cingular netowrk, and data apps still work (for example, the voicemail notifications and email keep coming in). I have to stop the data comm and then cycle the phone (voice) connection in order to get voice back.
Any suggestions? Cingular is advising me to downgrade back to 1.8 ROM - but they don't even have a link to get it!
What programs are you using?
See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=53432
It documents the problem...

Internet surfing while in a call - T-mobile rom

Since i've upgraded t the t-moble NL rom, I cannot surf the net while in a call... anyone knows how to solve this? it was fine in previous roms...
thx,
Ariel
You really should give more detail. Such that you are trying to surf using wifi and not GPRS etc....
Or try http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
More Details...
Whoops - apparently I wasn't too clear... (the first message was written while on a bus, so I guess that doesn't help much
On previous ROMS, I was able to use the 'net while making aphone call via 3G connection (i.e. I am surfing, some1 calls - and I can continue surfing while in the call). The dial-up connection just disconnects when the call comes in.
In the latest T-mobile NL ROM, this is not possible...
BTW, 3G networks support this feature...

Internet calling (VoIP) on the mogul works, but...

I was able to get Internet Calling (integrated VoIP) on the mogul working with the Gizmo VoIP service. The big problem is that the volume is so low it is pretty much unusable. I followed all of the guides here on xda and came up with the same issue as everyone else; i could not get internet calling to show up on the today screen and i did not have any of the internet options under the phone settings. What solved it for me was Schap's Setup VoIP tool version .3. This tools gives us the ability to now set the items that us Mogul users do not have available under the phone settings.
In a nut shell:
1) install WM6VoIP.CAB then reboot
2) install SetupVoIP_v0.3.cab (Schap's VoIP tool)
3) open Schap's config tool and set:
a) all of your SIP settings.b) Set outgoing calls using VoIP to Whenever available.c) enable VoIP over 3G.
Now when you go to your phone dialer it should now show the name of your VoIP service at the top rather than your carrier (Sprint PCS in my case). You will have to force your internet to connect first (i use PIE to start my internet connections up, not sure of a better way to do this.) Now you will be able to make and receive VoIP calls. I have verified this by calling another phone and seeing that the caller ID is from my VoIP. I have also been able to stay on a call and browse the web at the same time (not normally possible on sprint). The 1X icon never appears over my Evo icon while on the phone now. Interestingly enough i could not get this to work over WiFi, it would only work on Evdo.
This integrated VoIP is so seamless that it pains me to use another app just because of this volume issue. I have tried:
Skype. Works great, but not with Gizmo.
SJPhone. Works with Gizmo, but is VERY choppy.
GoSip. Works great with Gizmo, but is very big and slows the phone down.
Fring. Works great with Gizmo and the mem usage is great, but has no dial pad and that pretty much makes the app useless.
Wengo. Works great with Gizmo. Mem usage is on the big side, but is manageable. Seems to be the best for me so far.
I have tried many others that either work as dial out only or only work with their makers SIP service.
Any other ideas or thoughts?
Thanks,
JD
You got the mic working using Fring ? I always got one way audio
What version of WM6VoIP.CAB did you use ?
The mic did work for me on fring. However, the instant that i realized that i didn't have a dialpad i removed it. I use VoIP mostly for conference calls and i need to be able to enter in conference room passwords.
How would i be able to tell what version of WM6VoIP.CAB i am using? I cannot find version information anywhere.
JD
You are lucky with the Fring since there is many complaints from Mogul owners that Mic doesn't work
What version did you use ?
When I was searching for the WM6VoIP.CAB there was indication that there is some new version but the link was dead when I tried to download
Can you please post it here?
When i tried Fring it was a few months ago and i don't remember the version number. I do remember using my bluetooth headset for SIP rather than the internal mic and speaker. I just tried the newest version of fring (downloaded last night) and my internal mic and bluetooth headset now do not work for SIP. Interesting.
For WM6VoIP.cab I searched here on XDA and downloaded the first link i found. Here is the one that i used, not sure if there is a newer version? http://218.93.115.138/d900/patch/WM6VoIP.CAB
JD
That's the same I'm using ... I did read some article about this couple weeks ago ( can't find it) where there was reference and non working link to new version of this file.
Did you read this post ? :
http://www.eten-users.eu/lofiversion/index.php/t8854.html
There is reference to switch.cab ( can't find link to download it )
switch.cab
Try this:
http://www.etenblog.com/downloads/Software/switch.cab
I did, it did install ok but it doesn't work
Thanks
well i tried the configuration and everything, but the thing is that when i try to call out it says dialing then it says call ended, like it doesn't even ring. I entered the correct settings and everything.
I did everything and it DOES NOT show on my Today screen, I see the item "Internet Calling" checked in the today screen options. Any ideas?
Telus phone right ?
I if so that's normal with the Telus ROM

No, I have a Sprint Mogul with the "unofficial" leaked GPS rom. Anyone else know how to fix this? I really need this to work, thanks a lot.
It will not show on your today screen. When you go to your dialpad, the name of your VOIP provider should be listed at the top rather than sprint. If it shows that then you should be good to go.
JD
When you make a call, does the sound come through the earpiece or the speakerphone?
How can I have the sound coming from the speaker on the screen side instead of the back speaker?
Thanks!
I'm afraid you can't
