Speeding up camera boot - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I hate how slow the camera boots, so here's a tip...To keep it open all the time, don't exit using the "x" button. Instead, use the "ok" key, and the camera program will continue to partially run in the background. If you open the camera program again, you will notice it opens much faster--mine went from 6 sec to 3 secs. Strange that the "x" button actually closes the camera program, but the "x" in all other programs just minimizes it.

You'll kill the battery keeping the camera open.

Would seem that way, but the camera doesn't really stay "on." If you do this trick, you will notice that the camera application boots up faster, but the camera still takes a second to actually turn on. I haven't done any real testing, but I have left my camera app running for the last two days, and I haven't noticed any drop in battery life. Give it a try.

Controling the Camera "flash" LED

Does anyone know of a utility to directly switch on and off the white LED used as camera flash on the TyTn? It strikes me that this would make a great flashlight (torch) if it could be easily switched on and off from a today screen launcher icon or from a hard key assignment.
I know you can switch it on by starting the camera utility and switching to movie mode (it comes on immediately, you do not actually have to start recording a movie), but that takes too long when you are fumbling in the dark!

Thanks!
Many thanks. Small donation on the way - do not spend it all at once!
Why do you say prolonged use will cause damage? It looks like an LED to me, which should have long service life. Admittedly for the still camera, electronics could be rated for flash use only due to thermal reasons, but it comes on for longer times when recording video. If rated for more than a minute or so continuous use, I'd expect it to last for the lifetime of the LED.
Yeah, we've had discussions about this, and although I've never had problems with it, others have burnt out their leds after prolonged periods (> 1 min I guess).
I use an automatic timeout after 30 seconds.
We're not sure why the LEDs can burn out, possibly they're being driven to an extra bright setting, or only rated for flash use on a pulse basis.
The led can actually go even brighter, but it's not worth it for the risk.

Small problem....
Sorry Vijay, I ran into a small problem.
I was hoping to assign this to a hardware button (long press of the camera button using Vito ButtonMapper), with a toggle action. However, except for -on and -off, all the command modes seem to require the button to be held down for the light to stay on. Even with the no-parameter version, the screen window dissapears again when I release the button.
Is this behaviour intentional? If so, would it be possible to have a -tog switch such that if the LED is off, it switches it on, if on off?
I think this was intentional, so that you couldn't accidentally leave it on.
However, which version are you using, the full version or VJCandelaLite?
I think the lite version offers specific command line options, but even then, I think the auto off was intentional.

I tried all the installed shortcuts, including VJCandelaLite. With the exception of VJCandela On and Off, they all switch the LED off as soon as the button is released. Interestingly this behaviour is different if you just tap the shortcut in Programs. In this case, generally the LED stays on for a 30 second timeout. There must be some fancy programming here to detect it's started from a button?
VJCandella On does not seem to have a timeout (or it's too long for my patience!), but problem with this is you'd need to assign another button to the Off function, hence my suggestion of a toggle. I'd be happy with a timeout on it though, but not with having to hold the button pressed all the time.
I did a quick test using the camera app supplied with the TyTn - you can switch the LED on in video mode and it times out after 2 minutes, so HTC clearly regard it as safe to run it this long.

Something interfering with the camera

I have the stock AT&T Pure.
For some reason I can't figure out, the camera isn't working properly anymore. It starts up fine, the autofocus works, I can enter the Settings and the Advanced Settings menus and change settings without problem.
However, when I touch the shutter button to actually take the photo, the camera responds like it should, makes the shutter sound, and even displays the photo I just took on the screen. But that's where it freezes. The photo "review" never goes away. I've even tried changing the review duration to zero, but when I take a picture the screen just becomes white and freezes there. The "back" arrow button below the screen does not respond when this happens, nor does the Home button. But the "end call" button does take me to the home today screen. From there, if I go back to the camera tab and touch the icon to start the camera, nothing happens. The button responds visually when I touch it, but the camera does not start. Only a soft reset (or sometimes running CleanRAM at Level 3) will make the camera app start again, but still not completely take a photo. No photo is actually stored/saved when this happens.
I thought it might be due to lack of free memory, but even after a soft reset or running CleanRAM this still happens. I even tried reducing the resolution to see if that did anything, but it didn't.
I think it has to be one of the other apps I installed that's interfering with the camera. After a hard reset, the camera worked fine. Then after I installed my apps this started happening again. Nothing I can see in the registry settings for the camera look incorrect or out of the ordinary. Only one or two of my apps have functions that access the camera, and the same thing happens when I enter the picture mode in them. I removed both of them but still have the same experience.
Any ideas?
I'm afraid there is no other way:
- hard reset
- install your apps one by one, softresetting each time
- check the camera
- install another app
...
In the end you will know what's wrong.

screen captures

Hi, the other day, I was holding my home button to get to the app/multitask menu, at least that was what I thought I was holding, and then a photoshoot sound was emitted from my phone. Then I went to my sd card, and there was a ScreenCapture folder with an image of my desktop...
How did that happen?, now I want to take some screens of my phone and I don't know how, and don't want to install some app, since I fugure I can allready do it, just don't know how
Thanks!
are you sure you don't have "shootme" installed? it takes a screenshot if you shake the phone and makes a picture shot sound...
I dont think I got it, maybe if it came with nero v3, wich is the rom am using, but I dont think so
Its a hidden feature in you're phone no one really knows how to make it work
If you hit home and back simultaneously it'll do that if the feature is supported.

I have done this too. I usually happens when my media scanner is running and I hit the back button. I can never get it to do it when I want to. It only happens randomly.
Sent from THE Vibrant......

Screen Capture on Mesmerize too
I just installed the Froyo EA11+Root on my mesmerize and once in a while it will randomly take a pic too. I go to my gallery and theres the screen capture pic, kinda annoying sometimes because after the pic is taken it wont let me turn off the screen for about 5 min or even turn off my phone like if the power button didnt work.
well... it was a time since I've created this post... Well I could never find the thing, and never worked any combination of keys.
If it is usefull to somebody, in my opinion ShootMe works great and is fast and easy.
Thanks everybody for the help!

generally speaking my experience has been that the phone only natively screen captures when there is a system level crash that does not force a reboot ive only had this happen a few times. Most often when this hapens my phone also becomes unresponsive as the system is likely frozen due to the aformentioned system crash.
I've just used the Android SDK method.
Has anyone noticed any change in picture quality with the Shootme app?

Phone Unresponsive after camera app is open by double click

After I have opened the camera app with double click I am not sure what I click on as I am trying to handle to phone to take picture a blue line appears scanning the phone which starts form top to bottom and then bottom to top and the phone becomes totally unresponsive. You cant unlock the phone and you cant take any incoming calls etc.
Not sure what happens after 30 minutes or so when you double click the phone then it goes back into the camera app and after you take a photo it works. If you don't take a photo and click back button the blue line starts scanning again and phone will become unresponsive.
Ntt sure what this is.
Phone SM-G9287.
I found what is happening.I have lock pattern setup to unlock teh device. Now when i double tap the home button it goes into camera app and then suddenly the blue line appears whcih moves top to button and bottom to top as if it is scanning. The phone will become unresponsive as i mentioned above i.e touch screen wont work but u can still take photos using up and down volume button but not by touching on the screen.
To overcome this you have to press back button and then press the hoem key 3 times and the touch scren becomes active again and hence now if you draw the lock pattern the phone will recognize it and unlock the device and it works normally.
Not sure this is a bug or not but very confusing. Can anyone try teh same if you ahve SM-G9287 phone and confirm if you are also seeing the same.
phone freezes up when utilizing camera, Touchscreen becomes unresponsive.
I experiance the same but My phone is loked whith fingerprint sensor.
My 10 day old phone freezes up when utilizing camera (activatd with double touch of home button. Touchscreen becomes unresponsive.
Nothing can be done to get it working.
Tried every hardware button, which seem to work as designed.
the solution Vravik mentions does not work with me.
Only working option i can manage to do software reboot the phone with power button combined whith volume down key.
but after booting the screen is still unresponsive. see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-hbOHAuFhE
I was advised to do a factory reset and just after starting up the phone again and register myself the screen froze up again.
Does any one have a clue on this
I have noticed this issue as well
I have noticed this issue as well. But after doing a full reset and latest software update, I didn't notice this

Emergency SOS Function

So, I set this up recently and as a heavy camera user I'm now discovering this function could be a slight problematic.
Friday I was about to take a photo and so I doubled tapped the power button to launch camera and then tried to take some pics but at first it wasn't working.
After about 20 seconds finally I started to get the photos working. I was a little puzzled as never been an issue.
Almost immediately after the Mrs texted me worryingly asking me if I was ok?
Apparently when I tried to launch the camera it must have tapped the power button 3 times and set off the SOS mode.
It had without me knowing, taken front and back camera photos, recorded audio and sent to my emergency contacts along with my location.
Now I'm glad the emergency function works, but surely having the same button as the camera launcher seems a little silly as can lead to issues like what happened to me.
I ended up invoking via my Gear S2 because of accidental pressing.

Or disable double click power for cam. Then you won't have any reason to tap on power button more than once. And then you could download program to remap Bixby to open camera instead.
