Last night I installed the latest ROM from i-mate (my first ROM update ever)...boy was I nervous, but very cautious.
All went smoothly without glitches! Everything seemed fine all day, no hiccups or soft-resets needed. So I thought I'd 'stress-test' the jasjar a bit. So far, I have the following only installed:
Spb Pocket Plus 3.0.1
CA eTrust Antivirus for Pocket PC
DigYs Billiard Master 2
TCPMP The Core Media Player
Resco Radio (Streaming Internet Radio)
**All of the following are currently running:
Wi-Fi is on and active (streaming music and surfing web simultaneously)
Contacts
Internet Explorer (using Wi-Fi)
Word Mobile
Pictures & Videos (Photo slideshow)
Spb Pocket Plus 3.0.1
TCPMP The Core Media Player
Resco Radio (Streaming Internet Radio)
Using my memory indicator on Spb, it reads: 3.8 or 7% available!!!
Is it just me, or isn't this pretty good, considering how many apps are running?
System performance has not degraded either. Just as slow as ever!!! But not any slower!
Whilst typing this, I have had an increase in memory, up to 5%! Everything is still running; movie in one application with sound and streaming music at the same time. Forgive me, I'm going on, but there seems to be more to this picture than, either we know, or we are talking about. The Jasjar is performing fine for what it is and maybe because of it's feature set, we have all expected too much from it. It does actually deliver, albeit not as fast as we'd expect given the speed of well established WM2003SE devices.
Your feedback on this will be greatly appreciated, as I am still somewhat confused as to why there was so little memory installed on the Universal in the first place.
All in all, the ROM update/upgrade, so far, seems to be more stable. But then it is still early days.

Sound like a cool app.

It seems that the biggest problem of Jasjar, is memory management, it really let you do nothing with such an unbelivable device, it seems that, after writing to the whole world, expansys, I-mate, various forum, it came out, that HTC, will give a new rom, that will free more than 20 MB to the Jasjar...
When I see it, I'll believe it
trendystyle: That would indeed be most welcome!
Is there any chance a new slimmer ROM would also free up any RAM? I guess I'm hoping the new ROM might load less crap at start up which might save a little room on the RAM.
galt, That's about the only way that RAM could be freed up.
A slimmer ROM, or at least a better compiled ROM...

Right, I mean, is not said, that I need skype, it's great, but with the RAM in the Jasjar, 4,56MB are far too many to be wasted, they should give a cd apart, and if you want, you install it, if not, you keep your 4 and a half MB free, same story for the antivirus, and backgamon.
Still, I believe that most of the SW, were developped on WM2003 basis and experience, for sure, there will be a better way, to develop on WM 5, using less ram...
In the future, developers of WM5, will have for sure to keep care of that...
Yep, it might take a while though...
It isn't too difficult to get things working on WM5, but optimising them is a bit trickyer especially if you're essentially starting with a WM2003 product and trying to 'tweak' it.
Like you say, when people start developing primarily for WM5, I'm sure we'll see more stable and better optimised software...

I believe as soon as WM5 devices will hit massively the market, with the sale of some hundred thousands devices, as everybody knows, the demand raise the offer, still, WM 5 is too young O.S., developpers, have to invest in time and money on something that will give a medium term revenueI remember when XP came out, we had to wait a while, before seeing dedicated applis, and not sidegraded applications from Windows 98
Exactly, fingers crossed for some good WM5-specific software soon!
And here's hoping that SBSH are one of the first with a spanking-new WM5 version of their product. ContactBreeze is hard for me to live without, and PocketBreeze still isn't quite perfect (but then I am using a beta release).

this is a shame for a device costing so much, and claiming to be so much more, and is worse than its predecessor! I cant believe the f***** up on this so bad....did they even use the device themselves after manufacturing it? huh :?

But Jasjar is the maximum, it has a maximum price, and I want maximum performances

Trendystyle, i think you need to go n find yourself a dirt bike or a road bike, and stop buying the cross over. If you want something that is the best, buy the specialised product, if you want something that does a bit of everything, but nothing well, buy a cross over device.
Settle, be supportive and contribute knowledge, there is no point connecting just to whinge for whinging sake, if we wanted that we'd be talking to our wives instead of typing here.
I too was originally really really "upset" about HTC not upgrading the XDAII, in the end, arguing and spewing didnt get me one step further, but this forum, the knowledge skill and ability of those around allowed me to hack, tweak, rebuild, reformat and structure a device that suited everything I needed and wanted.
I am sure in due course, this forum will do it again. So if you havent got anything nice to say about it, say something to improve it, dont just come here to whinge.

No, probably not.
Hi to all,
i would like ot independently comment on the 1.6.7.1 ROM performances, since there were mixed opinions/conclusions. I moved from ROM 1.1.7.8 (radio 1.4.10.0) to the ROM here described but with the RUU_prodigy_1060701_QTAK_WWE_SHIP.exe procedure described on these pages since it looked to me more "standard". I used awizard1.2 to unlock and backup my rom as described in this forum, and everything worked very smoothly despite it was the first time i was ever trying to do such an operation. Importantly, i have to mention i have a QTEK9100 with a french keyboard, and i liked the idea of going to english OS anyway. Importantly, in the ENGLISH soft keyboard numbers are accessible directly - impossible in the french version (don't ask me why french people had chosen this way, probably to make space for important accents?)
Conclusions: the PDA works MUCH,MUCH better BY FAR than before. I am not speaking of the computing speed which i don't care, i am speaking of the smoothness/time of most everyday operations like protrait-landscape transitions, launch of applications, menu access, wifi speed, lock-up, installation of software, mini-SD access, etc. I made the comparison correctly, i.e. both versions after hard_reset. In addition, the Camera light started working (before it was totally dead). In addition, i suspect that before i had the infamous queue problems-slugginess of alarms since i had lost a few. This is probably disappeared after a few days of 10 mins testing. Before i had definitely quite a few duplicates in the notification queue that now have totally disappeared.
gprs is working correctly, i am not sure the infamous edge is activated (at least i don't have any evidence). This is true for both versions.
If i would have to complain, wifi is slower than i "expected" with both rom versions. I achieve only about 10-50 KB/s on a 800KB/s line....do you experience the same?
Strongly recommended to everybody and, as i mentioned, i am not among the geeks that developed these techniques so please consider this opinion as independent _ a sort of way of saying THANKS to the developers that possible and added an additional service to us QTEK buyers (apparently, HTC culture doesn't seem to be very supportive to people already gave them the money despite they have significant improvements...). Again, thanks to all of you.
Best,
Piero
p.s. i am on the way on remapping the french keyboard and...the volume slider which in fact is apparently the only function not operational. I guess it is part of the keyboard remapping, which i am going to setup with aekmap
p.s. on the qtek 9100. Being a previous palm treo owner, the qtek beats it in all aspects....except the internal loudspeaker sound quality. Despite controversial discussions on the topic, the loudspeaker on my treo was high power, strong bass, high trebles, while the qtek9100 sounds like apollo from the moon....
Let me just say: I'm not expecting a solution to this - I just want to vent. When I got my Hermes (which I love, of course) I gave my Wizard to my wife (which she loves, of course).
But every time I use her Wizard I notice how much faster it seems. Both units are frequently updated with the latest ROMs and are both now on WM6.. ..but it's so frustrating to see how much 'snappier' the Wizard always seems. Just as an example - pressing the power button makes the Wizard spring into life instantly, whereas the Hermes always has a short pause before it lights up The same goes for dialing and changing tabs in Settings, etc. too.
Oh well. I feel a bit better now I've had a moan.
True, but bring yourself back around by trying to surf with PIE on her's once....
or fire up a 96K music stream and see if TCPMP chokes on her's.....
or tether your laptop and see how well you can surf with it on her wiz...
(hopefully you have 3G coverage where you are)
Oh I know, I know (I get lovely HSPDA most of the time too). But has anyone ever figured out why the Wizard is snappier when Hermes ought to have more powerful hardware?
Something odd goes on when Hermes devices return from powersave. I need to find where that code is too b/c there's some real wonders that can be worked. This internal code does stuff like force portrait mode (a workaround for the magnets in the hermes case that place it in landscape mode), and do some battery power checks (which cause our Hermes not to display the last known battery state). During the execution of this routine, the delay occurs...
The Today screen refresh slowness only occurs when a lot off apps (in particular SPB PP) are installed. I personally think that a Hermes with a clean build is quicker from a response standpoint than a Wizard.
I have PocketBreeze installed - in fact it's the only thing I always install after a clean wipe - and it's the only thing on my Today screen.
If I'm honest, I think I let the fact that there's a delay coming out of power-save totally cloud my judgement. And if it were possible to change that through a hack, I'd be over the moon.
If you and other XDA boffins can crack that one, I'll be happy to make a little contribution for the efforts
Well, I'm coming up to speed on Platform builder after installing it for the ATI patch. This IDE lets me poke around in places I've never poked before (heheheheheh). Unfortunately the tools don't fully work on WM6 yet which is what all my hermes have loaded currently. My 8525 will be freed up soon tho & I'll be able to load a AKU3.3 build and get back to projects like this.

I would pay for an app that would make the power on time as fast as the Wizard's.
No need to hide. This phone has many problems, still many people seems to ignore them completely. No need to start the "It's your phone, it's strange, I use it a lot and it never happens" saga. The problems are there. And for everyone. The fact you don't notice some bad behaviours doesn't mean the phone is perfect or that your baby is exempt from problems. Let's start:
1) Suboptimal WI-FI performance. On a 802.11g wireless network, connected to an 8Mbps internet connection, the phone can't even saturate the badwidth of the network. Speedtest.net reports an approximate 2Mbps download capacity (EDIT for those who cannot distinguish: 2 megabits, not megabytes). Test it yourself: try to download something from a fast website and try to figure out which is your maximum download transfer speed. You will be disappointed. As a comparative, this means the phone can use 1/4 of the available bandwidth. A SonyEricsson Satio can fully use the available bandwidth, instead (someone told me "tell me a phone that can do it. Now you have one).
2) Stanby freeze: it's there. The phone freezes randomly while in stanby draining all your battery juice. Sometimes happens rarely, sometimes happens frequently.
3) Poor memory space handling: after just 20 days of use from a fresh ROM update, my free memory space on ROM is just 36MB. Without installing big things or hacking anything. Sure, there are fixes produced by the community, log cleaners, temp files deletion utilities, etc. etc. Still, it's a quite a disappointement: it means this phone can't work properly in a "factory state" for much time.
4) "Always on" features: nice, apart the fact in random periods of time the services just stop to download data. The Twitter client doesn't work well. Sometimes you can hear a tweet sound, sometimes it downloads data without the sound, sometimes it downloads nothing until reboot.
5) Poor stability in general: the OS crashes frequently. Less frequently than the first shipped rom. Still it's not very stable.
6) Poor support in general with the updates: finally the SMS stuck problem has been fixed but they spent 3 months for it without a valid solution. The camera fix doesn't hide the fact the sensor is defective.
I don't say this to start a flame, of course, but only because I'm frustrated with these problems. And people, instead of spreading words about them, just pump the hype, including some notorious web sites that have no scope but pushing the hype even further. But the truth is another: this phone doesn't work as expected.
I honestly do not have the problems you're describing..
Your "truth" is very different from mine, but ne1 is allowed to have no
Can't comment on all those, but i hear you, defo had some of them and i'm on my 2nd unit after 2 weeks.
With Nokia it took them at least 6 months to iron out the flaws in their released phones, defo the case with N95 & N96, i didn't expect it to be the case on this phone.
SMS fix? is it? or only in 1.66, because the hotfix's don't work on the 1.44 ROM
I would like to add the Audiobooster problem to that list
well, I don't pretend mine is perfect but there are more things to love than to hate about it. regarding the problems, I think you cannot generalize because I've never experienced some of your issues but I'm bothered by other myself. finally I guess it's just a subjective call anyway...
I had some of your problems when my HD2 was on the original 1.48 WWE Hong Kong ROM. However, since I flashed HSPL, Merlion LEO V1.90 ROM and Radio version 2.07.50.27_2, it's been faster and absolutely stable. No more freezing/"Sleep of Death"/etc...

That one really annoys me too. Still can't find a way to get video and audio in sync without manually adjusting the offset whilst encoding. And HTC still can't get the hang of getting Audiomanager to handle AAC files properly (ie sort albums in track order, or show.their album art). Still, it's a lot quicker than my Touch Pro was ; )
Yeap! I'm very happy that I could be refunded. Too many bugs for such a device.
^
If you want something that works out the box, get an iPhone
I have none of your issues and i can prove it with tests and videos.
I wish i had an "unlike" button to use it here. You are frustrated because either you don't know how to work with this phone or you have some bad software or even a bad phone. Replace it!
You are emitting false statements here!
PS: I have the phone for 2 months.
I'd love to see a phone or device that was perfect.
Every piece of hardware has its own problems.
I've been waiting for so long for someone to start a thread entitled as "Let's face it: HD2 has many problems". Eagerly watching this thread for some positive and negative input.
All in all, HTC Sense is at it infant stage. This "is" the culprit. Perhaps by end of this year, we will worship it someday...
To the developer/creator of HTC Sense, please use your common "sense" when trying to convince people to buy your idea. The first major mistake was SMS failure. Totally non-Sense.
1. have to say the WiFi (at work) is slow (2.2Mbps) but speedtest.net is SO unreliable I'll hold off commenting until I try at home tonight on my O2 LLU connection.
2. never had it
3. doesn't happen to me, currently got 107MB free of storage and 266MB of program memory free
4. other than Twitter client being a bit crap it's fine
5. mine doesn't crash
6. updates are fine but I've not had any of the issues others have had in the first place, less so now running a custom ROM
Return your phone and get an iphone/android device.
This kind of issues, even if I haven't myself had most of those you list, have been around with EVERY WM phone that has been made.
Of course WM is far from perfect, but as someone already said to me the advantages far outweigh them, and I can live with them and the need for tweaking.
1) Wifi speed, show me one phone that can transfer at full G speed. The processing power/memory bandwidth/flash memors speed can't handle that.
It also depends a LOT of the software used.
I do get 1-1.5MB/s (8-12Mbps) transfer on wifi between the HD2 and one of my home computers, with WiFi remote access, and on balanced wifi performance. With Resco explorer, I get 150kB/s...
2) Never had one.
3) Depends... could be just normal, now that the album and browser caches have reached their limits, and would stop there. Stock ROM has a lot of useless stuff on it.
etc...

Sense is fine, but the vanilla Win6.5 fails hard.
And if this thread gets to about page 5, it would probably just turn into another Leo vs iPhone flame war.
For the WiFi "problem": ~ 2 MByte /s is just the normal average speed, even with my laptop I won't get much more on 802.11g .. It also depends on with how many other devices you share your WiFi-channel.

I think there are a lot of 'duff' units, this must be the case with the 'sleep of death' and the crackley call as many of had it but most don't.
I took mine back, got a new one yesterday, no crackles no sleep of death... yet
But true, there are always gonna be problems, it will take months before a near perfect firmware, sorry, rom is out
Thank god for my HTC HD2. No problem here beside the screen shaking. But I hardly notice it.

SonyEricsson Satio, for example. I download at 900Kb/s with it on the same network (using the same browser, Opera Mobile 10 Beta 3). Poor implementations doesn't mean it's not possible. Do we need 4Ghz quad core processors to use a wireless g network? Obviously not.

A bad behaviour, even when happens at factory settings is still a bad behaviour. You have a strange definition of "normal". Surely a phone that in 20 days saturate all the available space on the rom cannot be considered "normal". It's a poor implementation of things. A good implementation would have addressed it from the start by allowing the user WHERE to store that files or giving him an option to clear that files without an hard reset. No, it's not normal. Software design it's a much more complicated thing than those "normal" things.
You know you have problems when your best programs are Hd2tweaks, Bsbtweaks and Resco registry editor. And you are continually wiping out your system and trying new roms. Although Xannytech evolution was a good one.
Hello all,
Just thought I'd share a curiosity I never saw come up for the Xperia X2 in all my searches. I bought the phone new from an affiliate vendor off a major e-merchant. The box looked a bit worn but all the original accessories were inside, and all the protective screen film, etc. appeared untouched. Every time I boot the phone, I get an error message:
Customization (2300)
Error during operation. Try again?
Hitting yes, I believe gets the same message, and "no" continues the boot. This carries with it several interesting curiosities. I don't know much about flashing and primary vs secondary OS environment or whatever but it appears the phone is entirely devoid of customization (bastardization?) by SE and is like a demo WM 6.5 clean install with a few differences:
- I still found some SE ringtones, and probably other stuff on the SD that came with the phone
- The thing came with Google Mobile App
- The bottom 2 buttons don't work (the toggly thing or w/e it is and "Ok"). Still working on this - suggestions appreciated.
I guess the drawbacks are that I don't see all the custom SE skins that some may find to be cool, and that the time resets with every reboot, which was a major setback until I got SmartTimeSync, which essentially made it a non-issue.
I'm potentially lucky because:
- the phone may or may not run faster, although full web pages do take a while to load in IE. For some reason, I didn't like Opera Mobile 10 - feel it's too difficult to get out of it / multitask, and didn't find it a lot faster. I can watch even an embedded youtube on a web page, which sometimes even plays without frame shake or w/e, when the phone is happy. Plays well on the google youtube app.
- Skype, in this day in age . Works well, although not through earpiece but speaker or headphone
- I forgot what else people complained SE crippled, but maybe those other things as well
I also wanted to say I really like the phone - it really does the job for me as far as the deal I get for unlimited data on a major North American carrier by using a phone like this if people know what I mean. And I am getting great usage out of it. IMAP email (still working on Exchange - getting certificate errors but this may be a problem with the server end. Kind of sucks though that I get a Microsoft product and can't get the Exchange to work), tethering is a breeze both cable and bluetooth, Google Maps with GPS - haven't tried any dedicated soft yet, got the X2 light thingy working. A lot of this may be old and tried for you guys but I couldn't get on the smartphone craze bandwagon because it's not affordable/worth it for me if I have to pay up in the subsidy phone then shackled to data plan contract game. A year or two ago before iphone 4 came out, I was just amazed at screen quality on the HTCs but was shocked by price tag and could never believe I could get a similar experience so soon. I love the way the letters look in IE on this thing all tiny in Cleartype. I'm an old school Microsoft fan, so this was right up my alley - I've never owned an Apple product, although I'm disappointed with the new Microsoft products like the new Bing map styling, Phone 7, Vista, Windows 7, Word 2007, etc. Anyway, thought I'd share this, and I'd be interested in hearing from the experts on why my phone might be behaving this way, thoughts, advice, etc.
In near future, hoping to downgrade ActiveStink so it can go over wifi and install Terminal Services client. That could be cool on a screen like this...
download sony ericsson update service from here install on your pc and follow the instructions on updating the device from the description of your problem it's a bad flash.

This is a fact, it is your choice.
My advice is to let Skype go. First firmware is holding back the hardware and Skype doesn't work quite smoothly. My guess is this is why they ceased support, it was nice to know Skype was there but less then mediocre quality.
Put on the latest firmware and overclock the device to 1056. You'll find several useful tweaks on this forum. It will never rise up to what the hardware was meant to do but you'll find it a bit better than acceptable.
There is a workaround however, you can back up the current instalation with Resco then call it back if you need.
