VJLumos UNIVERSAL - Superbright screen! RTFM - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Gents,
I've managed to twist my better half's arm and buy a Universal this evening. Whoo hoo! Expect lots of hacks.
And to begin, the thing's not even had an intitial charge, and I'm proud to annouce: VJLumos, a hack to get a brighter than full brightness screen on the Magician, is compatible with the Universal. How perverse is that!?
Basically:
1. start the camera.
2. Click tools (middle bottom right)
3. Choose adjust from the menu (notice the screen go a bit brighter?)
4. Now launch VJLumosLite.
5. You should return to the Today screen in brighter mode.
I've only just tested this, more to come, but I'd appreciate if someone carefully reads through this thread and tests VJLumosLITE. I haven't tested VJLumos, just VJLumosLite, although the only difference is that VJLumos tried to find the camera automatically. The lite version requires you to get to the adjust dialog first.
Please note - on the Magician, this can cause hard resets if you try to launch the camera a SECOND time after using vjlumos. On the Universal it only causes a crash. I can't prevent this (for now), but if you can, backup first, and don't launch the camera twice.
Please try and feed back!

S.O.S. very important!!!

Hi guys!
I'm going to buy an used Jamin... how can I see the total used time?
The guy told that he just turn the Jamin on for about 120sec. and I'd like to see the real used time....
You can try VJEschaton to see the uptime since last reset & number of soft-resets. If there were many soft-resets 120 secs total usage time should be b*llsh*t, keep in mind that the counter can be reset manually with app. software. So look carefully for scratches (& dents) on the screen (especially around the scroll-bars & soft-keyboard positions) & housing & camera. Check for dust between the d-pad hardware keys & don't forget to play a mp3 or whatever to make sure the speaker is ok. Does the stylus come out too easy or is there a misalignment in the housing, does the soft-reset button fit nicely behind it's hole & does the sd-slot work like it should?
So there are lots of ways to check usage traces & I hope you get a nice price & lots of fun like I had for the last year wih my magician.
Good luck, M
thanks!
Without any sw installation can I see the life time like for the mobile phone?
My WM2003 has got device information under settings -> system. That shows call duration, but that can be sim data.
Without installing any 3rd party app.? I'm unsure, then you got to rely on the hardware state it's in.

How to enable camera light

Hi
Can any body tell me how to enable camera's light on my MDA ?
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJCandela
Doesn't work for me. You may have better luck. Be careful and do not leave the light on for extended amounts of time.
outside the basic open up the camera program (default htc one) and click on the flash button...i haven't seen any real cabs for it, except vijay...but i believe that just makes your screen all white, which is bright enough like a light...
No, VJCandela doesn't and has never supported the Wizard.
I don't have a wizard to play with, so could never test code I've written.
I think I know how to do it, but won't write it 'till I can test it.
Hopefully one day!

xperia X1 Questions/issues

Hi all,
Well after much deliberation and hand-wringing, I've purchased the X1a instead of the Blackstone.
So far, after having it for a couple days of playing around with it I just came across a couple things/questions. I am a complete HTC newb so please bear with me :
1. Should I really be worried about the case cracking? I only have a 2-week return policy on the X1 and if it starts to fall apart soon after this, I may have some reservations about keeping it. So far, from my initial reactions, I absolutely love the design and form of it. It feels very solid and sturdy in hand, but the couple threads I see in regards to the "shoddy" and "easily crackable" casing has me a little bit worried.
2. I've been fairly impressed by the initial touch screen responsive-ness. However, after further use, I notice a couple minor blips here and there. I noticed that every once in awhile, the "text messaging/email" icon does not respond. At first, I thought it was due to my finger being too fat and stubby because all the other touch-sensitive keys worked. But I noticed that the icon wouldn't respond even after using the more precise stylus. I would have to re-boot the phone to make this icon work on the touchscreen again. This has happened a couple times already. Does anyone else have this problem as well?
3. For some reason, for one of the panels, the time is accelerated by one hour. I live in the GMT-8 Pacific US Time Zone and I've tried adjusting it in the master setting, as well as in each individual panel. And yet, for one of the panels, the time is always ahead by one hour. Even when I would adjust it in that particular problematic panel, the time would read correctly in the settings mode, but then would read an hour ahead once the panel screen is brought up. Irritating! grrrrr...
4. Just curious, if I see an H with a white box around it in the top right corner, am I on the 3G network?
5. Lastly, this may be a stupid question, but oh well, I'd still rather ask it. I love this phone for it's customization...am I able to flash the ROMs and install these killer programs that this awesome XDA forum has to offer with my macbook or do I need a PC. If not, I can just borrow my friend's PC. But just wondering.
Well that's pretty much it....for now
Just really appreciate all the helpful threads out here, and I'm so glad I've stumbled upon this awesome forum. It's helped me make my decision in getting this X1 and I can't wait to MAXIMIZE it's potential!
Cheers!
1. I'm on my second X1 (dropped the first one, 2 floors ) and haven't had a single problem with cracks (apart from my first x1 which broke ofc! ). I've had this one since about new years and have no signs of cracks anywhere. However, there are folks reporting cracks. I guess it's individual.
2. Never had that problem. Try updating to the new official rom with SEUS (sony ericsson update service). My phone became snappier after that.
3. no idea!
4. G=GPRS 3G=UMTS H=HSDPA (3G but faster)
5. As far as I know, you will need a Windows PC to flash roms.
Hope that shed some light
1.No case cracks or paint peel here even after 2 drops on tile floor. But there are a TON of people who have these problem.
2. reflash if you can. The whole phone is much more responsive and much snappier. Or down load Schaps advanced config. and adjust the screen sensitivity to your liking.
3. Make sure you have the weather set to your area?
4. Could flash even using parralels on my mac for some reason. I use the work PC.

hmmm...I don't think I've tried that before...how do I make sure to have the weather set to my area?
Hi, I had my my phone since Christmas, no problems so far, regarding the one hour difference, it seems that the panels are adjusting the Day time saving mode , so just make sure that the DST check box is unchecked in the options, this can be found while adjusting the city, in the panel options

YES! Thank you viperhead!!!!!
I checked in the panel options and sure enough, the Day time saving mode box was checked. The settings for the other panels did not have the box checked, which explains why it was just an isolated problem.
AWESOME! well that was super easy, I feel a bit sheepish...hehe
now if I could just figure out why the email/msg notification icon acts up....

is everyone happy with touch hd?

Never & ever be the case, I guess.
I just got touch hd last week and personally I am not that happy with it.
Previously I used Axim x51v for some years for navigation with external bluetooth based gps reveiver.
#1. I miss the hard key to turn on/off the bluetooth/wifi
#2. I miss the led indicator of the wireless status
#3. for touch camera, I also miss the hard key to trigger it.
Maybe I am old fashioned. For touch screen, I should use the on screen button. But I do feel a bit inconvenient.
#4. The touch screen doesn't respond to touch. You must press with some strength. It is even worse than Axim 51v.
#5. difficult to plug in/out sd card
#6. I soft reset axim once/twice a week to get best performance. But to access soft reset button is not convenient.
#7. I miss the D-pad.
Apart from that, I got a bad pitch on the upper left screen.
My axim x51v doesn't have any bad pitch after years of heavy use.
Should I keep it or return it?
im playing with it for about 7weeks and hmm...
1. Useless
2. ye i miss it too but hm.. i wasnt look at it anyway.
3. yup its a very bad. to aim focus and shoot. but it a pda not camera.
4. no, no, no I didn't have x51 but thd screen is I think very good with response.
5. dont tell me you changeing card every 5 mins
6. this is becouse you dont need to reset it. (htc thoughts) IMO is not so hard to get to it.
7. hmm in first week I miss it too then i realise its not nessesery.
i think you can keep it one more week and then ask yourself. shoud i sell it or not.
Most of your issues are things that you should have known about before you bought it. If they bother you then why did you buy it?
As for the soft reset button being hard to access - you don't need to use the soft reset button to do a soft reset. Just press and hold the power button for a few seconds. Easy!
It depends on how you see it.. Compared to my other touchscreens telephones the Blackstone rulez!
But then the downparts..
1. Its slow and laggy
2. Its buggy and unstable but I guess and hopes that this is the windows version and that some cooked roms makes it more stable..
3. Crappy sound quality with the 3.5 headphone output
4. Got damn I will NEVER EVER have a phone without a REAL hardware keyboard!
5. Did I mention that typing on the screen SUX?
And yes I still have the default ROM, since Im running Windows 7 Beta 1 I havent been able to hax0r the phone so I can try other ROMs..

I too was disappointed slightly with the HD when I first bought. But I stuck with it, tweaked it and I'm now a lot happier than I was.
#1. I miss the hard key to turn on/off the bluetooth/wifi. To navigate to Comm Manager and use on/off function is very straight forward. Takes 3 buttons presses at most.
#2. I miss the led indicator of the wireless status. You can download different task bar icons, countless available if you search whoch have better wireless status indicators
#3. for touch camera, I also miss the hard key to trigger it. You can use apps like HD Tweak or AEB Plus and remap soft keys so camera is one click away
#4. The touch screen doesn't respond to touch. You must press with some strength. It is even worse than Axim 51v. Again use HD Tweak and change sensitivity of touch press
#5. difficult to plug in/out sd card. Gonna have to live with this one. Not as bad as you think compared to some other phones
#6. I soft reset axim once/twice a week to get best performance. But to access soft reset button is not convenient. Try using Touch Off. Easy app for soft reset/trun off etc
#7. I miss the D-pad. Use 3rd party apps. Can be found in Themes, Applications and Software forum
To improve performance I'd recommend reading up on the wiki for some tips. HD Tweak & Advanced Config shoould also help. Also, there our countless cooked roms out there which have been tweaked for performance. All you need to do is search!!
my X1 is better...
Thank you for all these information.
The capability to adjust touch sensitivity is really super. I will definitely try it.
Do you have any recommendation of wireless tools also?
Regarding D-pad, I really cannot image it can be implemented by 3rd applications.
But your response had made me think that I should keep it ....

i came from X1 I LOVE THE HD
I bought mine in Dec 08, and so far ive been real disappointed.
* constant lag
* battery sucks
* non standard USB port
* Flaky paint work
but the biggest critism is the lack of structured apps compared to the iphone and android phones. I'll gladly pay for apps that are easy to download and install, hell even nokia have their own store.
Seems to me HTC just rushed through these phones without thinking of after sales products.
Ive always disliked Apple but im seriously going to have a look at the new iphone this summer....anyone wanna buy my HD

Go to themes, Applications and software and type in D-Pad and see whats going on. They're is currently threads on this where some have acheived a simple D-pad and others are still trying to implement more advanced ones. Also search under mortscript and a game pad similar to the nintendo gameboy has been created for your gaming needs.
For every fault which the HD has, someone in this excellent community has either fixed it or is trying to fix it. You just have to know where to search mate.
Only things which can't be fixed are hardware ones like increasing camera quality or flashlight. Otherwise, happy searching!!

iphone approve every game which appears on their device. Because the HD is WM they cannot approve every game as anyone can basically create games for windows. This is the main reason my HTC do not provide one web site for all apps & games.
Typical websites for apps and games would be:
www.handango.com
www.pocketgear.com
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/?en

You could try these 2 amongst others
but spartan, why do HTC need permission to sell games/app that run on WM ?
Sometimes people just complain for the sake of complaining

Constant lag? Mine is as fast as I need, and that's quick.
Battery sucks? I have no problem going a full day using virtually everything, and talking a few hours on the phone. After that, I recharge it through my USB port and up-date everything via ActiveSync. Perfect!
Non-standard USB port? Oh, please. The standard USB port fits perfectly. I use a standard USB port to connect my computer to the HD.
Flaky paint work? I haven't had a single flake of paint since I bought it four months ago. Perhaps you have a bad batch.
Don't paint every HD with the same brush. Your complaints are irrelevant to me because they simply are not true when you apply them to my HD.

I think what spartan was referring to is the fact that the iphone is locked (unless you JB it) They control what you can and can't have whereas WM you are free to have anything you like.
There are millions of apps/games/etc for WM phones so all you need do is search on forums like this and on the net to get what you want. HTC don't need get any permission because ultimately they don't control the phone. It's up to you to install what you want. HTC are in the business of providing phones not the 3rd party programs you run on them.
As regards the thread: I'm very happy with my HD. I'm not a camera user so this aspect of the phone has never bothered me, I just look at it as an extremely handy extra feature.
Soft reset - just install a program as has been said
SD card - Not needed to swap the 8Gb card as yet and can't see any real instances where I'd be constantly needing to swap it with any frequency.
Dpad - never used it on my trinity so not missed it on the HD
Battery life is amazing - I have watched all 3 Pirates of the Caribbean films on 1 charged battery (that was one hell of a long day waiting round for people i can tell you!)
After about 2 months of constant (reasonably heavy) use there are no visible marks or scratches on the phone and people are constantly amazed at it's looks.
So all in all I'm happy but perhaps I'm less fussy than most people here.
The phone Rulez. Period
Sure, a D-pad would be nice and it would be even better if you could attach the car battery to it (consumes like a bloody ($*T%(#$*^). Yes, for a plain phone it is both big-ish and a bit heavy
Nonetheless a) It is not merely a phone b) Rulez (see above)
If you want to compare crappy WM devices, just have a try at LG KS20
@sthapa - Think both dao & Aaronc1978 answered you query efficiently
I tried the hd tweak and the sensitivity adjustment is just for touchflo
but not for the touch screen itself. I used phatpad a lot for note taking in axim. But for HD touch, it is almost imposssible to draw a continuous line
since the strengh required to press the stylus is way too bigger.
Anyone tried to use phatpad in HD?

U11 phone watch

Has anyone obtained this apparently little-known watch?
I'm not sure it's made by UWatch, even though some places claim it is, and the model name follows their pattern.
But it has some interesting characteristics that blend the U8, U8 Pro and U10 together:
- it can act as a phone, with a SIM, but only through an additional (included) magnetic "SIM shell" that makes the watch a little thicker; without it, it's very thin, less than 9mm
- a detachable shell is also used for USB charging
- it has a compass like the U10, but maybe no barometer/altimeter like the U8 has, since a seller told me so, even though some specs listing suggest otherwise
- the screen is a whopping 320x320 resolution 1.56" IPS (the U8 is 128x128 TN and the U10 is 240x240)
- the battery is quite large, 360mAh, with a claimed life of 10 days (!)
- the CPU is a newer MTK2502C, though I'm not sure it runs Mediatek's Linkit like some other newer watches (there is no hint that you can install apps)
- of course, there are the usual stopwatch, step counter, sleep monitor, and so on
It is around €55, but it can only be obtained from China, I found no European reseller.
If anyone has it (or has found detailed reviews):
- does it run Linkit? Can Linkit apps be installed (through, for instance, the MediaTek SmartDevice app)?
- does it have motion gestures (for instance, does it turn on when you rotate your wrist towards you)?
- is the battery life up to promises?
- is the software solid or buggy?
- any other highlights?
I ordered one of these after I tried and was pleasantly surpised with an u8 clone(...).
There very basic if you compare them with say samsung gear s2 which runs Android and is over 330€ up here. I would rather use the word "robust". With sandby time of nearly 10 days! Thats standby offcours.
The u8 and u11 seem to use the same Nucleus os.
And though the u11 is better in every aspect it still lacks a animated and interactive notification system that Android smartwatches have.
Nonetheless one can do more with Nucleus devices then meets the eye. Its just not an open os where you can just install apps on the fly. Android devices seem to need more power especialy xburst which runs a fair amount higher in clock.
But Nucleus is also more capable then the current roms used on these smart watches.
I have yet to recieve the u11, but from what I have read it will suffice my needs for the moment.
Though I have to be honest that I do not like the U8's battery life at all. It's just ridiculously short when bluetooth is on all the time. The u11 does come with bt4.0 and the battery is bigger but it also has a faster cpu, uses gsm(if activated) and has a bigger(IPS)and higher res screen. Time will tell what the inpact is on battery life. Not much info is on the net right now.
Anyway, its a nice watch with an original design(..) an better build then the u8. Using metal alloy opossed to plastic for the case, better strap, tweaked interface with two themes, nicer clock faces etc.. and I realy like the modular design to keep the watch slim.
Hopefully someone will tweak and customize some U11 roms here at xda

Does anyone have the u11 rom ? I corrupted something on mine by installing an app. Now it's stuck on the clock. Touchscreen works... it still connects to my paired phone but I can't navigate the menus.

Long story short, many notifications did not work. Facebook, Messenger, Gmail to name a few.
I tried different apps on my Galaxy S6 and ended up with a totally incompatible app that tried to install something on the watch and corrupted something.
Thats interresting. Maybe add what app so we dont make
the same mistake again.
Did you try to reset the watch?
I mean reset not restart. There should be small hole
( the one thats not the mic) which you can use to reset the
device by puching a needle gently in there. Just make sure
its not the mic!
Mediatek Smartdevice should work.. ?
It's actually Mediatek Smart Device that messed up my watch.
I didn't find a reset button. Disconnected the battery and reconnected it with still the same result. I left the battery disconnected and I'll try gain in a few days.
I dont think removing the battery will reset the device. Flash ram isn't power dependant.
Maybe the manual can tell where or if there is an reset button?
There is no reset button. I did reset the ram via the Flashtool and I still can't access the menus. The clock did revert back to the default one.
I will need somebody to make a backup of his u11 firmware and post it !
Got mine today. Sadly I ordered Black and gotten a Gray color item. :-/ (don't buy at banggood, they will send random color when there stocks are low) Not to happy.
Anyways.
First impression is good. Metal case, in my case, Gray silver..
Battery wasn' t charged so I could not test it right away
but after a small charge it booted, silently, into clock mode.
The screen is nice at 320p. Clockface is analog which I switched
to digital for no specific reasson. Theres two faces of each, all just fine.
Two themes for menu. Menu is nicely organized with features that
matter easy to access. Much better then the U8 if I may compare.
Notification system is also much better. with a preview of the
sms or other notification that arrives. Longer notifs are clear and cripst to
read on the 320p screen. Which pops on when an notif arrives or when you lift your arm in the right direction. Very usable indeed though shaking would be better.
Every app is nicely tweaked. And the added compass works fine.
Very nice watch and very slim. Obviously adding the gsm module will add a few milimeters. Still have to test this though.
If I get around a pc I will upload the rom for those who want it or just incase. But lets see for an update first.
Misses:
A notif has an menu when swiping from the right. When a large email arrives and you want to access the menu(open, delete, block) the watch may freez.
You dont really need the menu that badly but when it locks, just press the side button for approx. 12 sec. and reboot. No biggy but unfortinute. edit; A long press on an item in the list also pop's upp the menu which works fine.
The vibrator is somewhat to loud. It makes more noice then the alarm sound(in low volume). Sadly no way of turning it down. Turn it off at the cinema or you'll get popcorned!
No Calc! This is a smartwatch, right?
Screen could be a little less bright in the dark. Although a amoled would have been great its a nice ips screen. But a lower setting would be nice.
So did you find a way to make a copy of the firmware?
Thanks
No I have not. I dont have an pc availible. I did try
it on my W10 tablet but W10 isnt beeing very likable.
Can you share the program you used, with drivers, then
I will give it an other try. Also did you use the cable that
came in the box to flash the watch?
My table did not recognize the device. Could be the OTG,
the cable or just plain old W10
I used the cable provided. But I had to use an older laptop running Windows XP. Wouldn't work on my W10 laptop.
I am currently in a moving phaze, so I dont think I can help you right now.
All my stuff is tight up.
Maybe a virtual machine with xp on a w10 tablet/pc will work...
If somebody else can jump in here? I see what I can do here. No promises though.
