How to enable camera light - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi
Can any body tell me how to enable camera's light on my MDA ?

http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJCandela
Doesn't work for me. You may have better luck. Be careful and do not leave the light on for extended amounts of time.

outside the basic open up the camera program (default htc one) and click on the flash button...i haven't seen any real cabs for it, except vijay...but i believe that just makes your screen all white, which is bright enough like a light...

No, VJCandela doesn't and has never supported the Wizard.
I don't have a wizard to play with, so could never test code I've written.
I think I know how to do it, but won't write it 'till I can test it.
Hopefully one day!

Any one in the same boat (Main Camera problem) ?

My Ameo,s main camera started by showing blurry and distorted image, then the camera does not start all together at time and the last issue is that when it finally started nothing was showing on the main camera as of now but the inner camera is working good... tweaked all settings, NO WAY! could this be as a result of a corrupt camera application in the extended rom or a manufacturer defect?
If it is an application problem, can someone please post the appliaction .cab file.
thanks

do you have the same problem? how do you know that?
The problem I have been having soince flashing to the newest WM6 Rom
is that ever now and then the picture taken is just a solid grey.. The Camera
app works as normal, but the resulting pic. is just all grey.. It seems to happen once every 10 or so pix, sometimes more.

I have this problem, only when I place it extremely close to the screen of my laptop to take pictures of the screen.
Mine happens at all times.. Inside, Outside, still subjects, moving subjects..
It happens at random times.. 10 pix will be good the 11th is screwed then the
next 7 work, then 1 bad.. etc.etc.
hi guys.. same here. this is my first dopod.. i've been using my old xda ii and the camera is at least quite decent.. i would have thought that with the high cpu speed, refresh rate would have at least be similar to something that a nokia phone can produce.. but in a indoor setting, the main camera is like so damn blur and in sloow motion... and the result is that if i am taking a picture of my kid, it is like an artistic picture.. i see nothing!!! haha.. but with a nokia phone, at least the picture is ok.. what is wrong!?!?!
how can we improve our picture taking or it is doom???? PLLEEAASSEE someone with any solutions, please help.. i tried to download cool camera but it does not work on the u1000.
i bought the phone also to capture my kid and post the pic online.. so i m not expecting super high quality shots.. but at least something decent.. and i mean decent like at least i can tell the features of my kid.. now i see blurness.. haha
Ok I have the same problem. Does anyone have a manual on how to open up the device. I think it isn't fitted corectly and want to see if i can fix it.
Hello,
This kind of problem ?
It's coming after WM6 french version upgrade...
Fred, waiting for a solution, and searching...
Its a bunch of different results... I have not had the prob. since upgrading to the latest HTC WWE ROM.
For the moment, my main camera does not work anymore...
2 hard reset and 2 installation of the french WM6 update, nothing better...
Is-it possible to make a copy of the WM5 and WM6
HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera keys for me ?
Thanks a lot.
Fred.
Try the PK2 ROM, or the latest HTC ROM

I think like you. My 7500 will return to the store.
Fred.
I have the X7501 with the latest HTC USA ROM. I have only taken about 15 pictures and I have seen the green distorted image and one grey frame as well. My device was locked up so I soft-reset and I have not seen the problem since. I will post here if I have any more trouble. We may be onto something here.

The first problem with my device was the green distorted image. The next level was the pink noise (1 color missed), and finally my main camera did not work anymore. The softreset and hard reset did not help me.
You should be lucky!
just a quick rehash about the topic on camera quality indoors.
i have noticed that if i lower the brightness to -2, i get really smooth video on the screen when i am trying to take a picture indoors. now if only we can have this smooth video but increase the brightness...
i don't know if i am asking too much.. is this possible? is there someways we can do this by adjusting the HKEY?

Blank Pics From Camera

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this - when I take pictures sometimes, they are all blank - i.e. just a grey canvas.
It only seems to happen in bright outdoor conditions...
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Yes that used to happen to me when running black 2.5 but it didnt matter if i was outside or inside the camera would just not take a picture and it would be a blank black/grey if you look close when you take a picture that works it takes a second or two to load up and be put into the memory with the blank ones they load up right away almost like the hermes is not storing the info of the picture properly
i had this happen a couple of times too, usually restart and its fine.
This occurred on my device when using the 2mb pixel size(the largest) with a deep field of focus...like outdoor pictures. I fixed it permanently by installing the latest firmware/os from my provider---cingular. Your mileage may vary.
As long as it's not hardware, I don't mind
I'd hate to have to try and convince the guys in the shop that yes really, t-mobile have released a WM6 ROM and it's official and still under warranty ;-)
Smiffy.
I had the same problem. I think it was comin' from an RSS software. It happened even after a soft reset.
After removing the software, it happens once a long time. Which is ok, just close the camera and start it again, it'll work if not.. poke it on the underside, u know which hole
It's the Super Fine setting on the camera that does this in bright outdoor conditions.
Switch to a different quality level and I bet it won't happen again.
Hi,
I experienced it too, but I catch the issue, because my camera said that my memory was full... but it isn´t full. I just closed all apps but camera and it magically started to take good pics again using 2M resolution and super fine quality.

Taguapire.

[APP]Waterlevel 0.2 (Another waterlevel application!)

Well, there are already a couple of applications out there already, but i was playing with the SDK and just trying some stuff out in visual studio so i thought, why dont i just release it?
Its a first release, it does work, has some basic calibration and im trying to make a bit more visually appealing that just some bars
So,
version 0.2:
- Updated graphics of the "Circle" compass/meter. Now actually looks like a compass thingy
- Added the ability to actually save the calibration data, and to let you know its doing something and its done.
- Created an CAB Installer to install the addon.
- Made all pictures internal resources.
version 0.1:
shows an Water level for the X and Y Axis, an circle "meter" and an light meter. There arent any big bugs that i know off, but i didnt implement the "maximal" meter bars yet. That means the measure bars can go a bit beyond the container
Requirements:
You do need the Compact framework 2.0, it will (unfortunatly) not work without it! But seeing as everyone already has the lightsaber application i guess its not that much of an issue
Other:
If anyone has some suggestions or comments (bad or good..) just let me know..
Source:
I added the source code if anyone is interested. Its not some good code, and the calibration could be alot more detailed, but perhaps it helps someone
Oh, and if anyone reflects the application and starts to rant about how my code sucks, i didnt optimize it or plan ahead, i just started to code some
1. congrats and keep the good work! it is refreshing to see a newbie that brings something to the forum and don't start with a wining post.
2. i really hope you'll receive only positive feed back (not so common here ) and allow me to be the first one to say: no, i don't think yr code sucks
3. is the calibration function working?
4. can you explain what "lumens" are doing here. lumens is an international measure unit for light. are u trying to use the internal light sensor to measure the light? this could be a good idea and i'll be very interested.
Lumens is the light sensor =)
Awesome app, calibration works perfectly and saves the setting ok and that light sensor is a nice addon.
Would love to see this made into a .cab installation and perhaps make this app work with the AppToDate program for easy updates.
Look forward to future updates
This is going in my favourite apps
Ignore my double post
awesome it is! great app.
explain please what is with light measuring pls....only measuring or calibrating the automatic light level also?
thanks!!!
No, it measures the amount of light the light sensor receives. I will eventually add an cab installer, but seeing as its still in the "works" i am not bothering with it yet
The calibration works, its not as awesome as the BubbleLevel one yet. When you press the button let the diamond lay there for 3 seconds, and then it calibrates. I wont update the backlight.
The light sensor only shows the value, it doesnt update the backlight it self. I tried doing that, but i can only turn the backlight on very bright, very dim and off. Not somewhere in between
Calibration
Nice app! I like the light sensor also, i finally found out where the light sensor really is
It calibrates fine but does it actually saves it somewhere? the moment i close the app and start Teeter, still not calibrated.
So far non of the apps around here were able (for me) to save the calibration. Some people mentioned success though and since I have tried by now all available roms and on none the calibration works, i get this idea that there are several versions of the sensor (hardware) around...
Anyhow, good to see a new app like this and success with it!
No, the calibration it not saved yet, i will add that soon. The problem with the calibration data is that its reset on reboot. The only tool that i know of comes from a different telephone (Raphael or something) and does save the calibration. But not all roms work with this.
So the calibration from almost all applications will only work on the application itself
Wow, thats the best waterlevel prog here around! Nice graphics, but still very simple. And the lights measurment is very nice too!
Very good work! Thanks!
icon maybe?
I updated te first post with version 0.2. I added some more graphics (lightmeter still had to be done ) an saving of the calibration data for this app only.
@ KukurikU:
Well, i created a simple icon. I tend to like simple stuff that easily identifies a software app..
i put my diamond on a real level meter, bring the level meter to 0,0,0 and pressed "calibrate" and now i can use my diamond as a level meter.....until next reset..
Thanks Wiebbe, nice little app. Will be very useful with my missile launcher!
Accuracy is a little off, well a lot off, on vertical measurements, try to get it to read 90 degrees, could this be an issue with the G sensor itself?

hard to tell who is to blame. look at the experiment/calibrate method described in my previous post.
i found my diamond to be "off" by 1.4-2 degrees (am i lucky or what?!) and after calibration 0,0 it stayed this way after playing with it quite a bit.
edit: sorry, my bad, now i get it...you r right, on vertical about 7 degrees off... getting 97-96 degrees.
Well, its not that the accuracy is really off. The SDK returns a certain value and its kinda hard to precisely convert it
Ill see what i can do, working on a different way to calculate the angle now.
edit:
Its odd, when i place the diamond vertically against a flat surface (whick should be 90 degrees) the build in Angle says 98 (from the raw data) my calculated one says 92. so its hard to decide which one is correct
After some more testing, it seems that all other applications have the same "error". Bubblelevel says 97 degrees as well when i place it against an 90 degree angle object. Same goes for SpiritLevel. I made a new way to calculate it which seems to be more "accurate" with the angles. But it still wont be 100%! Well, the number of degrees isnt 100% accurate, the bar it self ofcourse does work properly!
Does the output from the G sensor give X,Y,Z or just X,Y ? That coul be a problem when measuring the vertical. If it's just X,Y then maybe when tipped past a certain threshold an error message should be given, or even an audible warning.
The SDK in rawdata form gives back the following:
Angle for X
Angle for Y
Tilt value for Y
Tilt value for X
Tilt value for Z
The angle values are really in degrees, the same as SpiritLevel. They output around the same values as i output.
The tilt values are something from 0 till 1000+, you can see these in BubbleLevel as well at the calibration. I used the angles before, but these arent very correct.
Ill see if i can get myself a watermeter and an setting where i create an real 90 degrees setting so i can calculate a bit what the real values should be
It could be my house is like 97 degrees sloping, but i doubt that ^^
dont forget that an angle of 97 is possible if you tilt it above the 90 degrees value..
I too live on a hill.

Several questions....

Hi folks.....,
Anyhow, I have several questions for y'all about the phone. I was wondering, can anything be done about the pink hue in camera shots? I've noticed that in some pictures, it's not so evident, but in others, it's clear as day. Is there a trick to this? I know that changing phones don't really work as it seems to be something to do with the tech of the camera itself + the housing of the lens or something.
Also, since this is my first time using WM 6.5, is it normal for the Start menu, to segment in terms of scrolling? Like, instead of a smooth drop all the way to the bottom, it goes in "pages" almost, if this makes any sense. Also, is there a trick to using capacitive screens? Whenever I try to use my fingertip to scroll, sometimes it registers, sometimes it half-registers. Is angle an issue here? Do you get better with this over time?
I'm running stock ROM right now, with a yellow-reset button if that matters, with 2.13. Having said that, what are some of the common things I can check for in terms of manufacturer's defects, etc? I want to try avoiding flashing until I've checked for these common issues first to save me the hassle of flashing back again, etc.
Thanks everyone! But boy...the phone is snappy.

I can't answer your question about the pink hue. I haven't noticed it in my pictures, yet.
Yes, the page scrolling in the start menu screen is by design. It's so you don't go way farther down than you wanted to. I think it's retarded.
The touch issues you are describing could be for two different reasons.
1st, I hope you aren't using your fingernail? A capacitive screen requires skin contact.
2nd, the 2.13 ROM has serious touch sensitivity issues. There is a sticky in the "T-Mobile USA HD2 General" forum up top that gives you a .cab to install that fixes the registry for much more responsive touch scrolling.
Since you posted this in that same forum, I'm sure you will see it up there!
Thanks for the reply. I actually tried the cab above by zim or something, and it made my touch scrolling so much worse in SPB Mobile Shell. So I don't know what's going on.
Anyhow, I spoke with a T-Mobile rep, and we went through the usual rigmarole, and he told me since I can't get rid of the pink hue, I should just go back and get an exchange. Anyone think I should do this? Or are all units likely to have this problem? How many HD2 users here do not have this problem for the T-Mobile HD2 version?
A good number of the units have the "pink hue" problem. You can see several videos people have made on YouTube about this.
I have a bit of it as well.
My contention...live with it because it seems as though you have about a 50/50 chance of getting another unit with the same problem.

Is it normal to see the pink hue even through the screen though? Like, you start up the camera, even just at looking at the screen, I can see the pinkness in the center already. Is this normal?
That's my worry too. Everything else with the phone works so far. No dead pixels, no manufacturer's defects in the physical case....my worry is that by exchanging, I'm increasing the risk of obtaining one of these other problems.
Edit: Also, I have to mention that the pink hue is without flash.

Mine...on occasion it does have the pink tint but when I take the picture it is not there. People said to try to take a picture of a blank piece of white paper and see what it looks like. I tried with my phone and it looked white and my friend tried it with his iphone 3gs and it was fine as well. I read somewhere about it being an issue with a number of cameras not only the HD2. That being said a lot of people have including myself have taken really good pictures without a hint of pink?!?!

Yeah, I figured as much now. I realize when I use the pad of my thumb and scroll, it's so orgasmic and makes me jizz in my pants. And to see the scrolling without the icons being rendered as you go is.....just ....how it was supposed to be.
Funny enough though, I can't seem to hit the corners as easily. This is apparently evident when for example, you're in the Phone settings, and you have the two arrow keys on the bottom right. It's almost impossible for me to use my right thumb without hitting 10 times while my left-thumb needs about 2 ~ 3 tries. The screen seems to register the touch at the center of my thumb-pad, so to speak. Is this normal? Or does it just register the area of the thumb that gives off the most "signal", so to speak?

The pink spot was addressed by an HTC-issued patch for the euro Leo, which is still available on the HTC support/updates site for that model. But, the patch states that it's for builds prior to the ones used in the Tmo models, so I don't know that it will make a difference, but you're welcome to try it. I think the same tweak is available in all the HD2 tweaks listed in the sticky on the main page...in the list of all the "touch-x" cabs smaberg posted, there's one there for the "camera fix", I believe that's the same thing.
I haven't noticed the pink spot on my HD2 at all, and I did a test or two with a white paper...but I honestly don't remember what lighting I used. If I were you, I'd just test it several ways (indoors/outdoors/flash/no flash) and compare the results.

It's much more prevalent in indoor shots without flash. For outdoor shots, it's hard to notice it, but the farther you go away from the picture, the more noticeable the pink blur is. The radius of the pinkness get larger as the darker the ambient surround gets, at least for me.
Im still debating whether it is worth the hassle to argue for a brand new one, knowing that the reps might be reluctant to shell out a brand new HD2 over what they'd probably deem as a "minor" discoloration or something.

Hmm, but I've read online it's more to do with the low-quality of the camera parts and nothing to do with software really. Seems like a hit or miss really. Still fidgeting at this point whether to get it replaced or not since everything else works perfectly.
Anyhow, running SPB Mobile Shell on this monster results in 0 lags/freezes.

Yeah, my understanding is that the root of that issue is hardware based...the fix that was released was just an attempt to improve the way the software tries to compensate for that. But yes the only way to 100% eliminate it is to use higher-quality (and therefore bulkier) hardware components, at least from the references I've read on the topic.

What would you do Phunkee? Live with it or try your luck for a new phone?
Also, does anyone know if enabling Wireless N increases your drain when using Wi-Fi? And if you'll see a speed increase on Wireless G networks? And does enabling Wireless N count as "voiding" the phone's warranty?

If it's noticibile enough in your own pictures that it bothers you, I'd only try for a replacement phone if they can guarantee you a new one instead of a refurb (might want to take it into a store). I still can't seem to recreate the issue for sure, at least in any pictures where coloring isn't already kooky overall because of lighting irregularities.
Keep in mind too that it looks like new/replacement units are now being shipped with the 2.13 ROM from the factory, so also decide if that matters to you or not.
EDIT: I don't know about the wifi-N drain or performance improvements...I have it enabled on mine but my work and home networks are still G-only. I'm 99.8% sure though that it does NOT void your warranty to enable that.
1. There is a CAB file for the pink spots, have you tried it on your model?
2. Wireless "N" seemed to drain my power more also. And no it will not void your warranty because after a hard reset it will turn the registry tweak off. Hard Reset brings everyting back to stock except for your call timers. (unless you HPSL'd your phone).
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. Right now, I've noticed that outdoor shots, it's hardly noticeable on the computer, so I think I'm likely to just stick with this phone. Everything runs great after all.
Anyhow, I wanted to ask, how do you guys use your screens? Do you use the base of your thumb? I can't for the life of me get scrolling to work when I use the tip of my forefinger. Not my nail, just even towards the tip, it's choppy. I test it out on the Notes program and I try to do a flick and I can understand why. Instead of a single vertical line being drawn, it's being split into 3 ~ 4 smaller lines, as though the screen is not able to register the touch continuously. Is this something to do with my personal body charge and how my finger is shaped? I only ask because I've used an iPod Touch before and I was able to scroll just fine with my finger tip. Is there anyway to improve the sensitivity even further?

Not my nail, just even towards the tip, it's choppy. I test it out on the Notes program and I try to do a flick and I can understand why. Instead of a single vertical line being drawn, it's being split into 3 ~ 4 smaller lines, as though the screen is not able to register the touch continuously. Is this something to do with my personal body charge and how my finger is shaped? I only ask because I've used an iPod Touch before and I was able to scroll just fine with my finger tip. Is there anyway to improve the sensitivity even further?

There has been some sensitivity issues with 2.13; not saying that's it but a good place to start looking. There are also some registry tweaks for the flicking of your finger (how far it flips up/down). I don't have the exact link, but a quick search will get you in the right place. I personally use the end of my index fingers, thumbs, whatever finger is closest to the key I'm looking for.

But boy...the phone is snappy.

by pages I wonder if you are describing lagging. Lagging should not be normal. I suggest you notate how much free ram you have and how your program screen behaves (smooth or laggy)by going to >start menu>settings>system memory. After, run clean ram and repeat the above mentioned steps. You should have more memory and a smoother user interface.

[IDEA] Led as Light and Proximity Sensors

I'm not a Developer, but reading some information (i.e. http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Learning/LEDSensor ) I thought that if the leds of our phone (I'm thinking about the G1, 'cause I have it ) is connected to a pin that can be input and output at the same time, we may use it as a Light Sensor! But we need some dev that gives sw support for it...
And then, we may tell Android that the behaviour of the Light Sensor has to invert when we answer a call, and then we have a Proximity Sensor!
If someone could implement this, the devices that doesn't have a Light or Proximity Sensor could have something like it! And we just need a led!
It's just an Idea, but I think it could be awesome. What do you think about that?
[EDIT] we may need to see how long a led takes to shut himself down, and use the data to tell the system to change the backlight... using GPIO controls? [/EDIT]
yeah, thats not bad of an idea. I came from windows mobile and devs made an app for this exact purpose. maybe someone can do it for android as well.
I talked to a person that develops for embedded systems and I he said it would be difficult... He had no good result... But I don't think we're lost, if you say that it's really possible, maybe we can do it
haha i know its possible because it has been done and works on the Touch HD (my prev device) which coincidentally has the same hardware as the Hero. Its a definite possiblity, just that I don't know anything about writing programs for Hero. But my guess is that root access would be a must since you're modifying the usage of the light sensor
Then we just need devs!
Try asking the Dev that made the Leds flash for Sdcard activity, it looks really cool when you use it:

But it's not the same thing, I may ask but now we need to use the led to capture light, not to send it...
