Best GPRS counter for Universal? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi All,
Could anyone suggest which GPRS/UTMS counter is the best for this machine?
Does this kind of counter count GPRS and UTMS (3G) seperately or they just care how much data to go in and out in general?
THanks

a question to any O2 customers.... does anyone know if O2 charge different rates for GPRS vs 3G?

How do I know if I'm using HSDPA or not?

Newbie here.
I have a 838 Pro and have subscribed to Hong Kong's "3" 3G/HSDPA plan. The icon only reade UMTS on the phone. How do I know if the phone is using HSDPA during data traffic or not? I have goten 400kbps out of it (from Spb traffic monitor), is this HSDPA speed? If not, do I need to call "3" to activate HSDPA (if there's such a thing)?
BTW, I've already used Hermes Tweaker 1.1a to enable HSDPA.
Thanks in advance.

t-mobile uk HSDPA and TYTN Issues, possible solution

Right, this is my second tytn and i have sent first one back last summenr because of HSDPA problems. problem was that when i use 3g connection to internet was (usually) broken and couldn't load anything at all but was ok in gsm mode. I thought htc might have fixed it so bought current TYTN but hey! problem is still there. While trying to sort out i noticed that if i disasble HSDPA 3g works fine. dont forget you will stick with standart 3 g speeds.
can any one confirm?
how do i know when im getting hsdpa as i never seem to get any speeds faster than around 29k which is around 3g speeds even with a full 3g signal although i do find internet access very very flaky still...
I am still running the standard t mobile settings, i havnt chaged the proxy settings which in some cases help a lot of people
id be more inclined to say its tmobile's end that isnt working correctly, my TyTN is working fine on HSDPA with O2-UK. Have you had your account enabled for using HSDPA????

you need to call t-mobile and tell them you want to speak to technical support then tell them that you want to enable hsdpa on your line. in 30 mins you get it. but doesnt metter. if you have hsdpa in your area and your tytn enabled you might have problem without actually getting it

Well it seems so, I checked online to make sure i wasnt spouting rubbish LOL! As in my sig i achieve ATLEAST 1.1mbps when im connected to and they did announce they would be trialing HSDPA in the isle of man (which they have the fixed aswell as mobile telecomms contracts) and they rollout would be to the latter of 2006?!? Ive managed these speeds since i got my USIM (early september).
If im SERIOUSLY mistaken then i apologise but its gotta be HSDPA since the practical achievable speeds on regular UMTS are around 300kbps right?
yes you're right. you can't achive 1mbit without hspda. i have an o2 sim. will try it

Orange SPV M3100 / HSPDA

All
After much trial and testing....Unless anyone knows different
The Orange SPV M3100 in its standard form does NOT display a H symbol when using HSPDA and there is no way of finding out if it does so..
I am using the latest ROM update from the Orange site..but no other mods have taken place onto the machine...
Can anyone confirm or deny further ?
Darren
HSDPA also needs to be provisioned by the carrier, are you POSITIVE that HSDPA is enabled or even present on your orange account? If they are anything like O2 they might only offer HSDPA on business accounts.
pretty sure i have it enabled..
Just wondered about other SPV M3100 in the UK ?
darrem
My understanding of Orange UK is that HSDPA would work if the cell-base had it enabled. I'm not aware of any restrictions as per T-Mobile and O2.
a question then for any SPV M3100...How do you know you are using HSPDA ?
Any screenshots from a Orange device or Vodafone device ?
Thanks all

One way to check HSDPA is to run a speed test by running DSL Reports in your Hermes browser:
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
Works on a PC as well as a speed check if you pick higher file sizes.
On your Hermes:
speed
300-400 kbps = UTMS
500+ = HSDPA
You can also double check with Field Test available for download on the Wiki along with manual:
Field Test: Hermes Engineering mode

Disable H

Someone know how to Disable H, So I can use 3G all the time?
I'm on Leo's 3.2 rom, and it does not have the option Settings->Advanced Network.
So I have to disable H without Advance Network.
Thx.,

I have to ask, why would you want to disable HSDPA?
HSDPA is the fastest data rate for your phone, 3G is a lot slower, so why would you want to disable?

I use 3G always on, and having H enabled, it goed to H. I've read somewhere that 3G is the best for battery.
And the battery of Touch HD sucks, so that why I want 3G If I'm online all the time.
Settings - Connections - Extended settings - HSDPA/HSUPA deactivate.

Reade post #1
"I'm on Leo's 3.2 rom, and it does not have the option Settings->Advanced Network."
I dont think you can turn off HSPA and use 3g as essentially they are the same thing. HSPA is 3.5G.
Also the battery drain all depends on what hertz you get in your area e.g. 850,1900,2100 etc.. The higher the hertz the faster the battery drain (in most cases)
Hope this helps (a bit at least)

This is only true with phones that use 3G. The phone and EDGE (data without 3G) use the same radio. 3G uses a different radio so both phone and data can be used at the same time.
Thanks....BUT THAT SUCKS ... I guess I will have to buy the G3 version or get the Service Manual to enable the G3 US like you could due with the original HD.
I have a problem with the answer and some thinking ...Voice is over GSM(G) and Data is over Edge(E) why would it be dropped? I think that is 2 different radio Freq...

How would you enable 3G in the US when the radio does not support the US 3g frequencies?
I'm getting this also, but in Singapore and we do have a 3g network. even have the 3g logo showing up on the singal.
