Today markes the day that Sony Ericsson Ends it partnership with Wm, I guess the Next smartphone the X2 Will either be for Symbian S60 or Google's Android OS. Welll the had a good run with windows mobile but now its over.
But Atleast We know that there will be/could be a PSP Phone coming.

The rumor has been been going around since even before X1 was launched and if Ericsson is really off loading their shares to Sony, if i remember correctly Sony was always a big fan of Windows Mobile.

Well this time it is most likely true because First there sales for the flagship X1 sucked, second There phones arent selling so there losing money, Third Wm is the MOST expensive OS out there, so there trying to cut cost and maybe save them self from Spliting up. There almost sdoing as bad as Motorola. And ya
I heard a rumour that it was the andriod phones that are likely to be reduced or stopped by companies like sony and a few others as it does not really hold its own market. i think people see it like symbian for normal phones and mw for business. android is like iphone but companies are thinking if u want something like iphone u would buy an iphone.
not saying the rumour is true as there is at the mo nothing to back it up but i hear that was what a lot of mobile phones companies were thinking
Ya, and i have use Symbian i Wm has just 2 things over it, 1 Its UI is very costumizable and Its great intergration with everything Windows. But symbian has Way better res 16 million colors, better Costumizablility Video ring and others, better more stable Wi-Fi connection, Faster too. So really X2 would be alot better on symbian even.

But I think its true, Bad Pofits+Low selling Wm phones+ EXPENSIVE OS($99 each Vs $29 s60 vs Free android)=Bye Bye Window Phones, And For them to Truly have a High tech Phone and Feature packed the cant Us wm, cuz it doesn't support alot of things I.e OMINIA HD left Wm because it couldnt support half the things it has especially HD. But maybe Windows Phone 7 will change that.

I also bought the X1 because it is just an amazing phone. Although I owned two SE-phones before the X1 I never thought that I HAVE to buy a SE-phone again... The X1 is a HTC device and I think it opened the HTC-window for many SE-users; I think the X1 is a better commercial success for HTC then for HTC, because SE will loose with the X2 at least all the users that don't like Android and Symbian (including me).
With the X1 I said in fact 'goodbye SE', 'hello HTC'

the recent development in software and some of the leaks about the x2 hardware (better keyboard, based on 6.5..etc) as mentioned in the other thread suggests that SE are committed to WM.

I think your right with that But another reason i like the X1 is because of the designe , Thats why i like most Phone, I mean teh OS is very important to me BUt if The feature List is Killer like The Upcoming Nokia n97(which i already pre-odered for $750). Its sooo advanced that i would give Up the best OS out there WM for a less advanced but still good S60. You gatta be open minded when it comes to OS's. I have owned and used all the Mobile Os. Android, Mac, S60, RIM, Wm, Palm and touch wiz, so i know what i am talking about when i say what i say. Now i am using the HTC HD because its super sexy, In 1 month ill be using the Nokia N97 because its sexier, Way more features, 32 GIGS of memory, 3.5 inch screen With 16:9 Res, NOW no Phone can top that. Can you name one, that has better features?

I love Windows Mobile. Symbian is quite responsive, but simplistic.
The iphone's OS is also simple, beautiful, and good for gaming.
Blackberry's OS is mainly for eye candy and business, I couldn't really find many games on its platform.

Did you know that the Have only made 1 Wm phone and the sales were BAD, All other smartphones have been Symbian(which i like because how it interhrates everything into its Ui(which cant be costumizedbut okay)

I traded my Palm Pre in for a Hero because of the crappy-ass build quality of it. If it were built better, I don't think Palm would have gotten into the situation it was in.

This. Palm WebOS running on an 800mhz overclock was beautiful. The Hardware was pure crapiness.
I just read a piece over at Engadget that, according to their tipster, SE is prepping a 5.5" phone with slide out qwerty keyboard, running vanilla Android 2.1 and launching in the fall of this year. The article also mentions that "internally SE doesn't appear to have any plans for 2.2 yet".
Sorry to be pessimistic, but I think we can kiss anything but an (official) upgrade to 2.1 goodbye until well into next year. I think our best bet is that the devs here can achieve root.

Update: We've received word from a second highly-trusted source who says that the display is 5.5 inches (too big to fit in the front pocket), and runs a clean Android 2.1 install. Oh, and it's launching in the fall.

Palm was the best of the smartphone/pda battle in the beginning but not for a long time. Their attemped revival a couple years ago was and is an utter failure. Have to give them credit for the beginning though. Good ole Palm pilot, lol...

He's not alone. Palm's webOS software is actually excellent, it's the hardware that sucks. I've talked a lot of people that still like webOS better than Android, and they're just as big a Android nerd as I am.

I used to be way into Palm, I had a Treo 650 and 680 and loved them... Because There was no android haha.
My dad has a Palm Pre and he's on his 3rd one because they constantly die on him, that thing is such a POS. I'm workin on getting him into android, and his next phone will definitely be android.

Actually, the webos isnt all that bad..I used a palm pre shortly while trying out Sprint and it was rather nice. The phone itself...not so much, but the OS I found intriguing. Not as good as Android in its current state...but with a big push it could be if its not to late now.
Never had any Palm phones but briefly had a Blackberry, which is what hooked me into smart phones. Followed that up with the G1 and have yet to consider getting a non Android phone since. Android is just too snazzy. It's got everything useful and practical while being disguised as an extremely bright and shiny toy. I guess it is a bright and shiny toy but practical too!

I had the palm pre for quite a while and was quite happy with it. User experience is way better than android.
the good:
-Multiple exchange accounts
-to search you just start typing.
-Synergy was very nice also.
- great form factor
- no "save" button, everything autosaves
- multitasking is real visible multitasking
- no rooting needed
- some comunity patches where incorporated in new webos versions
the bad
- poor bluetooth support
- poor application support
- no decent gps software
- webos release cycle at start was great, but slabbed the last few months
Hardware was not super, but ok. I had the oreo effect but not realy bad.
Once you oc'ed the cpu from 500mhz to 800mhz it ran realy smooth.
The gestures are a super invention.
If i didn't **** up my palm, i would still use him dispite the faults.
Mix the the two together and you would get a super product.
user community, dev, applications from android
user interface and gestures from palm.
just my 2 cents

Nokia actually was talking to google too. It just did not get them anywhere.
Regarding RIM I actually don't know why would they want to do anything with Nokia.
They already have very decent hardware of their own, they don't really need symbian or any other Nokia OS, so what would they gain?
As a side note: three years ago Nokia closed their factory and R&D center in Germany and moved to Romania. Then came RIM and hired many of those engineers Nokia just put on the street. Those ~100 engineers are not much in the grand scale of things, compared to the headcount, but nonetheless. For example, BB Bold 9700 was the first BB model designed there.
Rim has antiquated screens on every phone. It's like 8-bit cell phones. If this happened I would grab one right away. So sad.
