HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ControlPanel/Updates
Group = 2
Redirect
Some Ideas?
i messed with that, i removed the redirect so it should be visible, but nothing, like the gps reg hack

Yes, I have tried the same thing. Can not see an Update Icon in Device Properties. But why is there a Update control entry in the Registry?

Hi. I found out that when you install a new application with a Today item if you already have 13 of them the last one install sort of bumps one out. The first one to go in my case is the Tasks. Mind you I do not have all 13 active. Most are unchecked in my Settings / Today control panel. Seems like there is a limitation to how many of them can be installed at any given time.
This brings up the question. How can I remove things like MMS Composer today item or those others installed by various applications without uninstalling the application itself. Is there a registry location where the info is kept? Presumably I can just remove the reference and bring my count under 13. Am I off base here?
Thanks
no, you're spot on!
Use a registry editor, such as resco and remove the entry under hkey_local_machine\software\Microsoft\today\items

I m actually looking to add MMS back on today Screen
not sure how anyone can help
in the register is only show
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Items\MMS Composer]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000
even Enable it (turn it to 1)
it is not showing
Presumably you have tried going to Start/Settings/Today/Items to see if MMS is available to tick? (sorry if thats too obvious!)
Otherwise you may have fallen foul of the 13 Item limit, and may need to delete another of the Today Items in the registry to allow MMS to show.
One tip, is to export the Registry entry to "Storage" before deleting it- this will ensure you can get it back if you find you need it in the future- double tapping an exported registry entry will reimport it.
I've tried searching for it, as I managed to do it before, but I can't find how to do it.
Any ideas?
no, but maybe somebody knows how to do???
I'd be interested in knowing this too!
In fact - has anyone produced a keyboard map for the Universal at all??
We know that 112 and 113 are the "softkeys" - anyone know any others?
it's easy... just delete the keybd\OEM registry key somewhere in the HKLM after which you can remap the key to any app.
I usually search www.yahoo.com in registry and delete the found key.
my exec is dead at the moment so can't tell you the exact registry key...
maybe someone else can
edit: maybe I misunderstood the question.

Can you be a touch more specific?
The wiki contains info on how to change the "homepage" in the registry - is that the key you mean??
I think so.
It's been a while so I'm not 100% sure.
why don't you try deleting it after backing it up?
edit: okay I was wrong... this has been discussed here:

I just looked at that key:
it's called PieHomePage = "www.website.com" (mine's gmail). - It's a Reg_SZ value - I do'nt think deleting it will affect the programe the keyboard activites - it just affects the shortcut (in effect).
Opera gives you the option of setting itself as "Default Browser" - would this be a workaround for this issue?? Anyone set Opera as the default?? Does it affect the keyboard shortcut?
nope, setting opera to be the default has no effect on the hardware key (at least for me) it still jumps to explorer.
you can point that shortcut to a program instead of to a URL.
\storage card\program files\opera\opera.exe
or similar

oooo - interesting.
Hmm - it works, but opens File Explorer too - I guess it's looking for a file to activate first.
Cheers.
in that case point it to the .lnk file
\Windows\Start Menu\Opera.lnk
That may help.
Tried the change to Opera.lnk and File Explorer still launches.

Have a look at Vijay's website, here's a link to his VJKeypress page which has a few others and a link to the full list (although the /Universal may not have all the keys listed).

How can I hide icons in the programs and settings panel.
In the programs panel they are links to applications,
have found the link files in \windows\startmenu\programs
folder but cannot delete them.
Is it possible to hide there icons?
Houser
If you want to remove them, try unregistering the dll.
If you want to hide it, one crufty hack I just tried is to parse into
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\
find the name of the icon you want to remove, and read its current group number (eg 0 = personal).
Now map Group to a non existent tab like 5, and it won't show up.
Let me know if smoke comes out of your phone!
V
Thanxs vijay555,
with unregistering the dll you mean the cpl file?
But not all have such a file.
It would be enough to hide them. Will try your hack.
Do you know how to remove links in the programs panel?
Houser
programs panel? /windows/menu start/programs....

hiding things in settings may work with empty key named "Redirect", but did not test it to be sure...

Hiding icon in controlpanel works with the reg hack.
Yes I mean /windows/menu start/programs.
There are link files to the app but they I cannot delete them
cause they are in rom.
Houser
Houser - the reg hack worked ok?
Which .lnks in the \start menu\ can't you delete? Can you list them by name - I think they can all be deleted can't they?
V
vijay555, the reg hack worked fine, nearly deleted all icon
in control panel coool
I mean the link files in the \windows\startmenu\programs directory.
Links from programs that are installed from user can be deleted
but not the links from programs that are in rom.
Houser
Houser - can you give an example of a .lnk that you can't move?
I can delete all of them, as far as I can see... Maybe I don't understand?
What's the name and path of a lnk you can't delete, and which app does it point to?
V
Hmmm strange I will try this tomorrow at work again.
Have tried to delete the file with ActiveSync connection
from desktop and got an error message file is protected or so.
Thanks so far, get back tomorrow.
Houser
Do it from the PPC using GSfinder etc.
V
Thanks that works!
Houser
vijay555, thanks for tip with "Group".
So when I change the Group entry how can I update the control panel
so that the icon is hidden immediately?
Houser
Generally can't, control panel is loaded and stays loaded in the system AFAIK. I imagine the control panel items only get parsed on the first load or an update. Closing the control panel crashes the shell.
Perhaps there's an API to send a sytem update, I can't remember...

I have tried an update with:
SendMessage(HWND_BROADCAST, WM_WININICHANGE, 0xF2, 0)
But this had no effect on the control panel, only on today plugins.
Houser
I use Resco Explorer to hide the shortcuts, and it work great. It doesn't work for Settings either, but I'm not really concerned about hiding those icons.
I have managed it now not by hiding the icons but to protect the settings
behind the icons. So a user cannot access the settings that are protected
by an admin. Thanks.

When I take pictures in landscape mode they come outsides, which is semi-expected. Is there anyway to "autorotate" the pictures so landscape is the default?
Well then it just isn't me, someone out there must have and idea why this happens?
i believe you can go to the registry and change the dword value from 1 to 0 at :
HLM\Software\HTC\Camera\Image\EnableEncodePortrait
That seems to have done the trick.
They should have a switch in the camera application to change that. It sucks to have to go into the registry to change the layout of the picture.
I also found that there is an app that 6800 Hacks that will do this without editing the registry. It does the same thing as editing the reg would but without the worry
You could also use mortscript and make a script to swap it back it forth with a window box telling you what mode it is in.. and tie it to a hard button. I personally don't have any use of the picture being in portrait.

What's the Registry key? Write a quick script to get rid of it, and place it in your startup directory. I can do that for you if you'd like...

I'm not sure it would solve the problem, because if I change the state of the registry key, I have to soft reset the Touch to apply changes and during the boot process maybe the regsitry is changed.
For example, I installed PMC Today Shrink which is supposed to get rid of this tray and as you can see on the screenshot, I have both tray (with intellisync icon) and today tray (with Action and Contact).
Have tried an application called "startup manager" I've seen it here, but I can't seem to find it.
You should give it a go.
