IE hardkey to run Opera - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I've tried searching for it, as I managed to do it before, but I can't find how to do it.
Any ideas?

no, but maybe somebody knows how to do???

I'd be interested in knowing this too!
In fact - has anyone produced a keyboard map for the Universal at all??
We know that 112 and 113 are the "softkeys" - anyone know any others?

it's easy... just delete the keybd\OEM registry key somewhere in the HKLM after which you can remap the key to any app.
I usually search www.yahoo.com in registry and delete the found key.
my exec is dead at the moment so can't tell you the exact registry key...
maybe someone else can
edit: maybe I misunderstood the question.

Can you be a touch more specific?
The wiki contains info on how to change the "homepage" in the registry - is that the key you mean??

I think so.
It's been a while so I'm not 100% sure.
why don't you try deleting it after backing it up?
edit: okay I was wrong... this has been discussed here:

I just looked at that key:
it's called PieHomePage = "www.website.com" (mine's gmail). - It's a Reg_SZ value - I do'nt think deleting it will affect the programe the keyboard activites - it just affects the shortcut (in effect).
Opera gives you the option of setting itself as "Default Browser" - would this be a workaround for this issue?? Anyone set Opera as the default?? Does it affect the keyboard shortcut?

nope, setting opera to be the default has no effect on the hardware key (at least for me) it still jumps to explorer.

you can point that shortcut to a program instead of to a URL.
\storage card\program files\opera\opera.exe
or similar

oooo - interesting.
Hmm - it works, but opens File Explorer too - I guess it's looking for a file to activate first.
Cheers.

in that case point it to the .lnk file
\Windows\Start Menu\Opera.lnk
That may help.

Tried the change to Opera.lnk and File Explorer still launches.

Have a look at Vijay's website, here's a link to his VJKeypress page which has a few others and a link to the full list (although the /Universal may not have all the keys listed).

How do I remap the PocketIE button on Exec/Jasjar

Got my new XDA Exec today. Keyboard has a button with the Internet Explorer icon on. When I press it I'm taken to http://pda.o2.co.uk/ which is about as much use as tits on a kipper.
Is there any way to reprogram this key to something more useful? Like Google or something? It doesn't appear in the list of programmable buttons in the control panel Buttons applet.
Perhaps it's a registry entry. If so, can anybody suggest a (free) WM2005-compatible registry editor?
TIA
Not sure about the Exec, but this was the registry edit for the JasJar:
Change hardware PIE behavior:
Go to - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\OEM\Keybd
Change the string called PieHomePage to the website address of your choice.
If you don't want it to do anything but go back to the spot in IE you left off -
Just edit the dword so that it is blank.
Bonza! That looks about right. Thanks for the info, galt. I'll check it out when I get into the registry.
Now, I just need a registry editor for WM2005. Can anybody suggest one?
Tre. It's freeware.

Nice one! Thank you galt and lautunno: I've installed Tre and fixed that registry value and it's sorted! Thanks for your help.

About 6 posts down in the thread, user "kjk" has posted a cab file which changes the left *(Calendar) Soft key to the start menu. I'm using it and its great.
Once you install the cab it actually copies a "start.exe" to the Windows folder which is what the Soft Key maps to in the registry.
Cheers,
Chris
i suggest you use smartskey. it lets the softkeys function normally with taps, but holding the left pops the start menu and the right is ok/close.
What is that registry location to make changes to the soft/smart keys manually? Goodlink changed my keyss and i don't like it...

Remap left softkey on Today screen?

Greetings,
I'd like to remap the left softkey on the Today screen to go to something else besides calendar. I've searched all the forums and have turned up several apps (vijaytoggletoday, smartskey, and some others) but they all seem to be geared toward either totally removing the soft key menu bar from the Today screen, or changing the behavior of the hardware soft key buttons. I just want to change what the left soft key points to from Calendar to something else. I saw a post sometime ago where someone had remapped it to Comm Manager, so I know it's possible. How do I do it?
Thanks!
SP
Search google for soft key changer.
Also available on Buzzdev.net
Also in a registry hack on the wiki, in the Today keys.
V
what did you find that removed the softkeys all together?
Regarding remapping, look for SoftKeyApplet or SoftKeyAppletEx ..
To change the application launched by the Today screen Left soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Today\Keys\112\Open = "\Windows\Calendar.exe" (REG_SZ string, including quotes)
To change the title of the Left soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Today\Keys\112\(Default ) = Calendar (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
To change the application launched by the Today screen Right soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Today\Keys\113\Open = "\Windows\Calendar.exe" (REG_SZ string, including quotes)
To change the title of the Right soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Today\Keys\113\(Default ) = "Calendar" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Note that 113 normally doesn't exist by default, and probably needs to be created Also note that there is at least 1 application that allows you to set these through a GUI, developed by FdcSoft called SoftKeyAppletEx
gravejoker vjtoggletodayII will remove the softkeys
Thanks guys...
Chaotic, exactly what I was looking for.. .thanks!
Grave, as chaotic said, vijaytoggletoday will do it, as well as DCINoBar.

To access the call log, you can do it programmatically, or use VJPhoneShortcuts.

Please who can help me with a registry hack to set the incoming/outcoming calls instead of the calendar button ?

First you must install "NewMenu", then create a new item, then choose "callhistory.exe" from windows folder. That's easy!

There isn't callhistory.exe in the windows folder.
Try what Vijay suggested .. that should give you shortcuts to the Call history and Speed dial .. then remap one of the soft keys to it ..
And no .. I dont think there's any CallHistory.exe anywhere ..

Adjust backlight when device is locked

Hi all, do we have any trick to change the default backlight level when the device is in locked?
I'm asking this because if we need try to unlock the device under daylight, the device backlight is too dim to be seen. Of course you still can unlock your device by remember the location of the unlock button.
A more or less satisfying solution to this is to use third party software. I am thinking of S2U2 which mimics the iPhone unlock mechanism.
Its actually easier to operate the slider without seeing what you are doing than trying to hit the "Unlock" button.
I'd give it a shot if I were you. It's not that heavy on the system, good looking and customizable.
my first try to answer in this forum ...
I had the same problem (especially when it's sunny it is impossible to see where to touch for unlock) and I found the solution to create a new folder "LockLevel" in registry:
\HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel
within this folder I created a
DWORD Value "LockLevel" with the decimal value of e. g. 8
You can do this with e. g. Resco Explorer or any registry tool.
Sometimes I've to re-set this regkey - it seems another app changes this regkey ...
Rename folder HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel to:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelX
Hmm... None of the trick solve my problem. But really thanks for the help & reply.
Think I got to use a 3rd party software for this..
yar same problem.
s2u2 sucks out to much power though unfortunately.

This DOES work:
Rename folder HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel to:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\
with my registry editor I had to create this new LockLevelX folder and the entry within... then delete the LockLevel folder, then reset device. Good luck
Underzone can you post a screenshot of the whole thing or the registry tree in question? I'm not quite sure if I got you right, because it still doesnt work on my device...

HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel ->
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\
It is the only difference in your example... ??
rename LockLevel to LockLevelX
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel =>
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevelX

This is working not long after reset and after first lock, Locklevel is back.
(Also LockLevel is existing to)

you don't need to create it - its already there. The locklevel is set to 0 i've upped mine to 6.. it works a treat! well done all
after changing that reg key, and then resetting, it changed back right away already....

I can do better than that. I can point you to the cab I made of the relevant changes so all you need to do is install this one file!
Great job, but do tell if the video call button would come back or not if I uninstall the Cab file.
If not how can we bring it back if and when I want to
This freeware program is a great alternative. Includes a reset to default command.

i got a kinda similiar problem..except i wanna change my left soft key which now says TODAY SCREEN to watever da the default was..i think it was PHONE on my tf3d home screen..the reason it says TODAY SCREEN was after i uninstalled the phone alarm cab i was left wit dat..now i cant figure out how to change it back..i tried da fantasticbytes softkey manager didnt change anything..so if anyone can help or point me to right link link..really appreciate it..thanx
Can someone give me the registry path, so I can choose witch programma I like to map?
I have the new 2.03 ROM installed but want to change the dailer softkeys.
Thanks
You would have to find out a way to edit the DLL from post #4.
Unlike the softkeys from the homescreen the softkey on the dialer work totally different.
I didn't realise we were talking about the dialer when I posted above!
You can change the Left Softkey to the default contacts application (iContact BE on my phone) by setting the following registry DWORD to 1:
HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE\LSKContact
Cab file attached (my first ever)
Also, you can drop this file in your Windows dir. Just overwrite the original with Total Commander or Resco.

It just sets that one registry value, changing the left soft key of the dialer to "Contacts".
This launches the default contacts application - normally pOutlook but it should be iContact if you have installed it.
I installed the new iContact 0.9 and now it is default contact manager
Thanks
