I just tried to send an email with a jpg image as attachment and it wont work. If I select the attachment a crude error message pops up with something like "cant attach that file, make sure you have the right storage card inserted" or something similar. I can post the complete error message if needed.
What the heck is thist supposed to mean? What do I do to fix that.
By the way: Sending a file out of resco explorer or the album ap (with send-to email...) doesnt do anything. The busy icon appears shortly and thats it, no email sent , none created.
PLEASE HELP. I need this working soon.
Nice, thank you. I helped myself in the meantime.

Hi,
i have been using an elf (Stock rom) for a year now and had no serious problem so far. however, lately it's been acting quite strangely:
1. it refuses to open attachments (jpeg, tiff, pdf you name it) in the outlook, a security warning keeps popping up, saying that the file is not recognizeable and post security msg.
error msg:
the attachment is of a file type that could be unsafe. messaging will not open this attachment.
2. i cannot manage (rename/delete/cut) any files fm the explorer because it thinks the file is in use/write protected.
error msg:
cannot rename : `file name`: access is denied. be certain that the file is not write-protected and is not currently in use.
btw, i already made sure that the file was not in use (as for write protect, had no idea how to do that in the first place)
pls note that i have not added any new software/modified the system file recently.
has anyone came across this kind of proble before? and pls adv your suggestions (aside fm hard reset...ouch).
Thanks/luke
Ok so seems I've seen this asked in a few differnt theards so I fig I would just post up info once.
For uploads, yes its disabled, but there is a work around. Go to linda file mgr. Long press the file u want, select send to, then gmail (email doesn't work for some reason, has to be gmail). It will automatically bring u to a new email with the file attached ready to send. I've tested this with all types of files, test up to 7mb so far.
Now to get uploads working on websites...
Thanks, that helped a bunch. Good luck getting upload to work =D
Thank you so much for this!!!!!! I really needed it couple of days ago... I know now!
Ok so I have an update on my tests, but first let me clear up some things I've read in here.
Just installing linda file mgr will enable Downloading of any file type, but uploads though browser are disabled. Thats why i came up with this method.
So test results:
Yes you can Upload .zip files. I sent a few small ones to my other email. You can pretty much send Any file type.
Yes there is a file size limit. Only bigger files I had on my phone was .mp4 and 1 update.zip(46mb). The size limit is around 20 mb. I sent several up too and including a 19.46mb.mp4 and all went though.I then sent a 24mb.mp4 and would not go though. It just hangs in outbox. If after 30 mins (or whenever ur satisfied that it won't send) delete it out of out box, because u won't receive new emails till its deleted, cause its repeatly trying to send I guess.
Can a mod pls change the title of this thread to something like "yes you can upload any file type in gmail" or something like that so people know this is a how too and not a question. thanks.
can u download from the web or not

Yes g1 in its stock form will let u download "known file types". installing linda file mgr installs a plug in that let's you download any file type. What I am telling u how to do is upload, that is send any attachment you want though gmail.
ASTRO 1.3.11 includes this plugin for the browser download as well. question is now, How do I download pdfs and the like using the GMail program... I can preview the file. How do I save it?

You can't dl them in the gmail app, but you can go to gmail.com in ur browser, when u click on the pdf (or any other file type for that matter) it will automattically download it to ur sd card
I have the Bell Galaxy S and sometimes email attachments will fail to download. For example I can't download an mpg or jpg file my parents sent me. However, I can download a small text file. Anyone have similar issues and does anyone know how to fix it?
I have an issue downloading "large" files.
It's weird because it seems to be source dependent as well. I was able to download a 34MB HTC sync driver yet a RAR file of 40MB wouldn't download even though the save to pop-up showed up on opera and i pick location but it never starts.
in the built in browser on the other hand i get unsuported file error show up.
I was using the Samsung Email with my hotmail account sync'd. Mpg files and jpg files failed to download. It's very frustrating...even a pdf failed to download but I know I had been able to download one before.
you guys should try this
Attachment to SD

do you have astro file manager installed? if so, there is an option to enable the browser to download unknown file types or smth like that, but it also states that it will mess up your email attachments, so if you have enabled it, you know what to do ^^
cheers
yes astro works too
Sorry, how does this affect using Samsung Email to download attachments? Does it even help? I'd really just like to know why certain files download fine as attachments to the attachment folder while others do not. How can I make it so I can download all attachments...?
it works just like your file association in windows
if you do not have an App installed that can handle the file type, it wont let you do anything with the file, not even saving it to disk
That's stupid that you can't even download the file. Thanks for the help guys.
Does anyone know how to delete files received over Bluetooth??
I transferred the wrong VCF file to my S5 using Bluetooth and now my S5 is loaded with all the wrong contacts. I have deleted every contact from the phone but every time I boot up my S5, all the contacts re-appear. I wondered whether the phone was importing the VCF file automatically so I decided to delete it but I can find no option to delete the file.
I have been through the Bluetooth menu and it only shows 'open' as an option on the file. I have also searched my phone for the file with no success. There is no 'Bluetooth' folder on the internal storage either and I have not put in my SD card yet.
My S5 is not rooted and any solution can not include rooting. My boss won't appreciate me hacking a work phone!
For someone who works in the IT industry, I feel like I'm losing the plot on this one!
Can any of you lovely XDA people help?

Hi Djimmy,
Thanks for your reply.
I forgot to mention that I checked the Download folder also. I've also used Astro to search my phone for the files with no results.
As for your Google suggestion, we are testing out Google Apps and so the account I have used with the phone is completely blank. That rules out any possibility of a Google sync being the cause.
On my old S3, I only had to go to the Bluetooth folder to delete any files received so I don't get why this folder no longer exists unless its in a location that I need root to access.
If anyone has any ideas, throw them at me and I'll give them a go!

It is possible that the exchange with bluetooth. may allow adding contacts without saving the file, but in this case if you delete this means is that I do not understand sorry.

Hi termdj,
Thanks for your reply but I did state that there is no 'Bluetooth' folder anywhere on my device as per the below quote.

I have manually checked EVERY folder visible in My Files and cannot find a single folder labelled Bluetooth. I have selected show hidden files in the settings.
I have used Astro to search for the folder and the files themselves without success.
I have even gone as far as used an adb shell to try and locate the folder but I dont have and wont ever have root access on this S5 which means i cant check the system folder which is where I believe its going to be.
Can others confirm they have a Bluetooth folder on an actual S5?? If not then this may be a wider issue.
Mine has the Bluetooth folder.. Sorry I missed your statement about not having the folder. I did pick up that if I delete a file in the folder, that afterwards it deletes the folder. The folder appears only when I receive a bluetooth file
Thats odd behaviour...
I'll give it a go and see if anything pops up and update you later.
Cheers!

Hi lwiss.
Thanks for the info but i cant even rename the file. The only option available is open.
I have also emailed Samsung to ask them to file a bug for this as one of my work colleagues has also suffered the same issue!
I'll keep people updated on here.

Done some testing using some of ur ideas and i still cant get at the VCFs.
I created a text file on my laptop and sent this to the S5. This appeared in my download folder. Not exactly what others get but its a damn good start! I decided to see if i could delete it through the recieved files option. It still only shows open. I went back to download folder and deleted the file. When i returned to recieved files, the text file came up as 'not found' and was removed from the list of files. Yet my VCF transfers remain suggesting they are still somewhere on the phone.
Im emailing Samsung again and telling them to provide a delete option on the recieved files bit or i will root my phone and find the offending files myself. They will then be held responsible for any issues that arise.
If anyone has anymore ideas im all ears

It's my guess as well that VCF-Files are treated different by Bluetooth share function, maybe for security reason.
To remove any received VCF-files from the "virtual" Bluetooth shared folder go to:
Settings -> Application manager
In the apps list go to "ALL" and search for "Bluetooth share".
Tap it and again tap on clear data button as well. That's it!
Seems that part of the framwork keeps track of the transfered data and keeps it in some container or drops it into download folder, depending on the file ending.
Anyway, hope this helps!

Facing exact same prob. If you get the solution plz reply.

Use notepad or any other text editor and create a blank VCF file having the same name you put for the first VCF file that you transferred via bluetooth.
Then transfer that blank VCF file to your device via bluetooth. You should no longer have that problem!!!

Hi. Every file which is stored in SD Card cannot be send over the Bluetooth. Everytime I see error message that says: Unknown file didn't send successful. If I copy that file to internal memory, everything works perfectly. Where can be a problem? Thanks for all advices

Having this same issue... please any assistance?
I zipped them and it obviously works as they are known files, but have you solved it?
I would prefer to waste time zipping!
You can't send certain files via Bluetooth. it's a security thing. apks are out.
I use Files Go - it sends them via wifi and works well.
