cannot open attachment/manage files - Touch GSM General

Hi,
i have been using an elf (Stock rom) for a year now and had no serious problem so far. however, lately it's been acting quite strangely:
1. it refuses to open attachments (jpeg, tiff, pdf you name it) in the outlook, a security warning keeps popping up, saying that the file is not recognizeable and post security msg.
error msg:
the attachment is of a file type that could be unsafe. messaging will not open this attachment.
2. i cannot manage (rename/delete/cut) any files fm the explorer because it thinks the file is in use/write protected.
error msg:
cannot rename : `file name`: access is denied. be certain that the file is not write-protected and is not currently in use.
btw, i already made sure that the file was not in use (as for write protect, had no idea how to do that in the first place)
pls note that i have not added any new software/modified the system file recently.
has anyone came across this kind of proble before? and pls adv your suggestions (aside fm hard reset...ouch).
Thanks/luke

Ok Here are two Simple solutions ::
1><NOT RECOMMENDED> This solution basically helps is hiding the contents of a particular folder and might cause problems with the apps which are linked to those files..It is advisable to be used for images you don't want to show up in gallery and are not associated with any app eg GPS..
-Open Astro / Androzip or whatever file manager/explorer you are using and create a folder named “.anyname” and then mount your phone or mini-SD card on a computer.
-Transfer private files into the new folder and they will no longer appear in the photo browser. Browsing through Astro or a similar file manager will become the only method of viewing those photos on an Android phone.
2> <HIGHLY RECOMMENDED>
- On your computer, open Notepad or any other text editor
-Save the blank file as “.nomedia” . Make sure that the Save as type is set as “All Files” instead of “Text documents”
-Copy that file to the folder on your SD card containing audio files you don’t want to show up.
(Example: If you want to block CoPilot sound files from coming up, place the .nomedia file in the sdcard/copilot folder)
-Reboot your phone and the files should no longer be viewable
This same trick works for folders containing images or videos that you don’t want to appear in the Gallery app. The files will still be accessible from your original app or an explorer like Astro or Linda or Androzip, but you’ll finally be able to stop hearing “From the next roundabout take the first exit" announcements after a great song.
HAVE FUN

Downloading attachment failed.

I have the Bell Galaxy S and sometimes email attachments will fail to download. For example I can't download an mpg or jpg file my parents sent me. However, I can download a small text file. Anyone have similar issues and does anyone know how to fix it?
I have an issue downloading "large" files.
It's weird because it seems to be source dependent as well. I was able to download a 34MB HTC sync driver yet a RAR file of 40MB wouldn't download even though the save to pop-up showed up on opera and i pick location but it never starts.
in the built in browser on the other hand i get unsuported file error show up.
I was using the Samsung Email with my hotmail account sync'd. Mpg files and jpg files failed to download. It's very frustrating...even a pdf failed to download but I know I had been able to download one before.
you guys should try this

do you have astro file manager installed? if so, there is an option to enable the browser to download unknown file types or smth like that, but it also states that it will mess up your email attachments, so if you have enabled it, you know what to do ^^
cheers
yes astro works too
Sorry, how does this affect using Samsung Email to download attachments? Does it even help? I'd really just like to know why certain files download fine as attachments to the attachment folder while others do not. How can I make it so I can download all attachments...?
it works just like your file association in windows
if you do not have an App installed that can handle the file type, it wont let you do anything with the file, not even saving it to disk
That's stupid that you can't even download the file. Thanks for the help guys.

extsdcard write issues

Issues with wanting to copy to extsdcard any new files/folders from my gdrive account...not specific to write or modify but a mix of both.
I am experiencing an issue with my 32gb sdhc card that baffles me. I use ES Explorer and create a folder on the extsdcard and it quickly shows creating the folder in asynch mode, I then refresh and it shows up. Ok odd, whatever, moving on... I then try to delete it and it says successfully deleted, hit refresh and it shows up. How is this?
Another test is use FolderSync and i set up the folder pair and then click sync. Status shows error in red, I click show to see errors and I see errors "could not create folder: <anyfolder> File transfer failed '<file>' open failed: EACCES (Permission denied)"
Anyone have issues like this? Any pointers? I have researched and cant find much other than 4.4 changed its extsdcard security.
Thanks
Robert
Kitkat is picky on third party apps writing files to the card. Call it Googles strive to be more like Apple with each release.
Google probably wants all users to be cloud loving lemmings they can data mine.

My main issue is I can't even delete a folder. ..
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Dunno if it's just me.....I've had zero problems doing ....well....anything I want to ?!?
BTW, I used ES file explorer (file exploder?) on my Galaxy Nexus.....constant issues and crashes.
Never again.
On your S5 there is a app called "My Files", it seems to work almost exactly like ES is supposed to work.
It does everything I can think of....make folders, open and add to them, delete files and folders ???
Works perfectly on mine with a 32gb Pony class 10 micro SD, not a single problem ever.
Perhaps you have a problem SD card ?
<edit>
Err, it's a PNY sd card, just always seemed like calling it a Pony was the correct term ?
As soon as Verizon gets root run the app
SDFix
From the market, or you need to edit platform.xml and add in a permission, only takes a few seconds but you need to be rooted, it is an issue with kit kat

problem opening apk lite P9

Hello to all,
I found this annoying problem for a few weeks when I open the .apk files directly from notifications instead of starting the installation of the app, the same file is opened by the "File Manager" as a .zip preventing me from installing the app but permettondomi in vain to check the contents. Initially this did not happen, but he walked directly installation. I checked if the manager appeared as the default app but it is not nothing. Does anyone have advice on how can I bring everything to the initial situation? It could be a default of the last update (VNS-L31C55B150)?
Hello.
I think that if you long click the APK in the Notification Bar it will take you to the exact place in Settings where you can change the default opening Program.
If that fails, try to Reset your app-preferences. Have you changed/flashed/installed anything prior to the problem ?
I do not remember but maybe Precise And coincided with the upgrade of system
I have just had the same issue as you, yet when downloading the apk from a different source worked for me. I don't really know why it gets detected as just a .zip archive rather than a apk. Have you tried other sources or renaming/repacking the apk ?
Solve looking for the apk file you downloaded, and opening it with the file manager, but I do so in more steps
