"Unknown file didn't send" Bluetooth sharing files - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi. Every file which is stored in SD Card cannot be send over the Bluetooth. Everytime I see error message that says: Unknown file didn't send successful. If I copy that file to internal memory, everything works perfectly. Where can be a problem? Thanks for all advices

Having this same issue... please any assistance?

I zipped them and it obviously works as they are known files, but have you solved it?
I would prefer to waste time zipping!

You can't send certain files via Bluetooth. it's a security thing. apks are out.
I use Files Go - it sends them via wifi and works well.

Gmail corrupting my APK file?

My son asked me to write a quick'n'dirty app for him (click a button, play a sound file) so that he could annoy one of his friends (go figure!)
I did so (using Eclipse, and packaged/signed using the Export Wizard then zipaligned)- and sent it to him via gmail... but he got a parse error. I also sent it to my Fuze (on which I've installed HaRET & Eclair - thanks XDA!). Same problem: "Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package"
So I hooked my Fuze up via USB and simply copied the file to an SD folder. The apk installs from SD via File Manager without any problem (and works as it did in the emulator). I've attached the apk, if that will help diagnosis.
Is there a known bug with the 'install from gmail'? Should I just put my personal apps onto an accessible filestore (that my son can browse to)?
Any other mechanisms to allow me to email the apk so he can save it locally? (I'm a noob regarding android - this is my first app, and he just got the phone)
Thanks in advance!
I am not sure, but I believe that when you open an attachment from an email, it gets downloaded into the "Download" folder in your phone or SD card. And then it is installed from there. Have you tried installing through SD card? i.e. place the file in the SD card and use any file manager to install it.
Thanks for taking the time to read & respond!

This is what I was doing - the install failed at this point. Gmail provides only a 'preview' button... no way to save the attachment in a generic sense -- I can see the sense in limiting stupid saves to protect noobs from themselves... but this is Android, why isn't this configurable behavior?

this is what I did, and it worked... My son also downloaded the file on his computer, and synced to SD then installed...
My main question... what the hell is Gmail doing to the file during the download process? The file is obviously OK (it works when saved/transferred via PC from the gmail attachment... just not on the 'droid version of gmail)

[Q] Delete Bluetooth Transfers

Does anyone know how to delete files received over Bluetooth??
I transferred the wrong VCF file to my S5 using Bluetooth and now my S5 is loaded with all the wrong contacts. I have deleted every contact from the phone but every time I boot up my S5, all the contacts re-appear. I wondered whether the phone was importing the VCF file automatically so I decided to delete it but I can find no option to delete the file.
I have been through the Bluetooth menu and it only shows 'open' as an option on the file. I have also searched my phone for the file with no success. There is no 'Bluetooth' folder on the internal storage either and I have not put in my SD card yet.
My S5 is not rooted and any solution can not include rooting. My boss won't appreciate me hacking a work phone!
For someone who works in the IT industry, I feel like I'm losing the plot on this one!
Can any of you lovely XDA people help?

Hi Djimmy,
Thanks for your reply.
I forgot to mention that I checked the Download folder also. I've also used Astro to search my phone for the files with no results.
As for your Google suggestion, we are testing out Google Apps and so the account I have used with the phone is completely blank. That rules out any possibility of a Google sync being the cause.
On my old S3, I only had to go to the Bluetooth folder to delete any files received so I don't get why this folder no longer exists unless its in a location that I need root to access.
If anyone has any ideas, throw them at me and I'll give them a go!

Yes we had before the appropriate folder. but now everything is in download. Transfers do not go on it's roots.

It is possible that the exchange with bluetooth. may allow adding contacts without saving the file, but in this case if you delete this means is that I do not understand sorry.

I have manually checked EVERY folder visible in My Files and cannot find a single folder labelled Bluetooth. I have selected show hidden files in the settings.
I have used Astro to search for the folder and the files themselves without success.
I have even gone as far as used an adb shell to try and locate the folder but I dont have and wont ever have root access on this S5 which means i cant check the system folder which is where I believe its going to be.
Can others confirm they have a Bluetooth folder on an actual S5?? If not then this may be a wider issue.
Mine has the Bluetooth folder.. Sorry I missed your statement about not having the folder. I did pick up that if I delete a file in the folder, that afterwards it deletes the folder. The folder appears only when I receive a bluetooth file
Thats odd behaviour...
I'll give it a go and see if anything pops up and update you later.
Cheers!

Hi lwiss.
Thanks for the info but i cant even rename the file. The only option available is open.
I have also emailed Samsung to ask them to file a bug for this as one of my work colleagues has also suffered the same issue!
I'll keep people updated on here.

Done some testing using some of ur ideas and i still cant get at the VCFs.
I created a text file on my laptop and sent this to the S5. This appeared in my download folder. Not exactly what others get but its a damn good start! I decided to see if i could delete it through the recieved files option. It still only shows open. I went back to download folder and deleted the file. When i returned to recieved files, the text file came up as 'not found' and was removed from the list of files. Yet my VCF transfers remain suggesting they are still somewhere on the phone.
Im emailing Samsung again and telling them to provide a delete option on the recieved files bit or i will root my phone and find the offending files myself. They will then be held responsible for any issues that arise.
If anyone has anymore ideas im all ears

It's my guess as well that VCF-Files are treated different by Bluetooth share function, maybe for security reason.
To remove any received VCF-files from the "virtual" Bluetooth shared folder go to:
Settings -> Application manager
In the apps list go to "ALL" and search for "Bluetooth share".
Tap it and again tap on clear data button as well. That's it!
Seems that part of the framwork keeps track of the transfered data and keeps it in some container or drops it into download folder, depending on the file ending.
Anyway, hope this helps!

Use notepad or any other text editor and create a blank VCF file having the same name you put for the first VCF file that you transferred via bluetooth.
Then transfer that blank VCF file to your device via bluetooth. You should no longer have that problem!!!

[Q] copying flac files to phone

hey XDA,
I am not able to copy Flac audio files from my PC to the Internal Storage of my galaxy s4. When I paste the Flac files into the phone, it prompts for file format not supported, then I click 'No, just Copy' and for all files. But then it only copies the first file (If I selected multiple files) and then freezes. When I cancel the process, the first file is copied successfully.
How can i fix this?

sorry, nerver have this problem before..guess you need to wait for file to completely copy to your phone if it hang just wait until it complete
I have found out the solution today. I had the same problem on two phones, two systems, two laptops. People usually use same set of applications etc
I always used K-lite codecs to play videos on the PC. This causes the problem with copying the Flac files to the phone somehow. Uninstalling it makes it back ok.

Lost whatsapp videos - how to recover it?

Hello,

1. Restore from backup (whatsapp has this built in feature to auto backup images and videos).
2. If restore is not possible try browsing for the files or searching the device to see if you can find them as the storage manager reports on files present.

Hey,
Thank you for this reply, actually the videos are not showing in the WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Video folder and whenever I try to open the video in whatsapp it shows the message that "Sorry, this media file doesn't exisr on your SD Card", but it still occupies the space I hope you understand what I am saying, it simply means that files are present on mmc but not showing in the device, or the nodes that points to the files are missing, so I need some recovery software.Hope to see reply soon.

Whatsapp will always display images/ video if you have deleted the files from under and not via whatsapp as these still exist in the database.

Hello,
Thank you again for this quick reply,
Ok, let me tell you one by one,
Q1.Restore from backup (whatsapp has this built in feature to auto backup images and videos).
Ans.Can you please tell where whatsapp store backup images and videos? so that I can restore from there, because when I check through the file manager then in the folder "WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Video" I found nothing, but all the other folders like images etc. have all the data.
Q2.If restore is not possible try browsing for the files or searching the device to see if you can find them as the storage manager reports on files present.
Ans. As I told all the data are intact but the Videos are missing also physically from the Storage media but still it occupies the space, I am saying this because I have 4 gb free space before disappearing the videos, now I have 3.98 gb so, videos are still there but not showing neither in whatsapp nor in file manager.
I hope this removes little dirt.
Thank You.

I'm not sure, but try Samsung smart switch, and make a full backup internal memory to your desktop first. Do you use Windows? Then disable hidding folders settings in Windows. And then look for the videos in the backup folder .

I wouldnt waste your time. He keep saying it says it says files are on the media but he doesnt give enough information.
If you have root/ explorer you should be able to find the files. if you cannot find the files with an explorer and root the files are not there. It doesnt matter if you have hidden files or using windows the explorer with root will find files, hidden or not.
He has no backup and using whatsapp to retain files.

obb folder showing as a file, can't write / change permissions

Hi all,
I can't seem to get my obb folder to behave. After installing anything which makes a file inside it, the folder changes to a file inside any file manager including with root access.
In twrp it shows as a normal folder and can be deleted or edited, but once back in android, it reverts to this weird uneditable file...
Any clues? I can't (or rather won't) format internal storage as I don't have a micro SD and currently have lots of files in my root folder which I need in case of emergency (i.e. my twrp backups and some downloaded . zip files).
Any help would be appreciated! It's not an emergency I'm just trying to get a game working. Oh also, if it helps, when I try to download the game after folder has gone weird, play store gets to 99% then fails with error 0 every time.

You simply need to delete the obb folder from TWRP file manager.
If no success, connect your phone to pc and delete ithe folder from there. (or use some force delete software for your platform)

Hi,
I'm also facing same issue, did you find any solution ?
Please help me too..
Don't know if this means anything but if I go into file manager after a reboot it's fine for a minute or two then goes back to being weird. Can't put my finger on what causes it. I've uninstalled magisk, clean flashed my ROM, only thing left to do is format internal storage but can't do that until I get an SD card for my ROM files and backups to go on.

Thanks but that's not really a solution I want when it worked fine on previous builds.
Wow... You'll never guess...the issue is present in nougat ROMs too...
*facepalm*
i also faced the above problem in almost every oreo rom. But in the below rom it is normal.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/rom-cosmic-os-v3-1-universe-t3730547. i am using this rom as daily driver.
Hi All,
I deleted obb folder from going into root >> data >> media >> obb
Choose file manager like es file explorer or Aroma file manager.
But this is temporary solution not permanent after some time same issue will occur again.
Kindly follow this thread to solve obb data lost on Oreo custom Rom.

Thank you so much!! I don't have an SD card at the moment, however, but happy to know a solution. Does anyone know the cause??
Is there a solution for this without SD card??
EDIT: I've noticed something. The issue described in this thread seems only to happen after connecting to WiFi and downloading apps from the play store. It doesn't seem to happen before I will do that. Hope it helps.

Did u find any solution ?
My theory says obb folder turns into file cause system link from data/media/obb should be revoked but I'm not smart enough to know how to create system links
I noticed that when I install the pubg mobile game manually I do not lose the obb folder, just like the friend mentioned above only occurs when the game is installed directly from the play store
For those who don't have rooted devices use this method until we get a fix
