PLEASE can anyone help me??
This is crazy - I want to do a simple task - store my contacts somewhere whilst I do a ROM upgrade. Simple. Isn't it??
Well first I tried to sync them to Outlook, only to find that outlook express won't do, I have to use Outlook something else.
So I fished out the CD that came with the XDA II and installed outlook 2002 and activesync onto a branc new PC (didn't want outlook 2002 mucking up my emails on express).
But now outlook express is mucking around, and won't acknowledge the concept of a contact! Or and email account!! And I've been to the repair section in help, and it's convinced it's working fine.
This is turning into a bad day. Can't anyone give me a simple way to retain my contacts whilst doing a ROM upgrade? Surely there's a better way.....
Thank you so much for any help....

Should easily be done in Settings -> System -> Permanent save.. I'm actually doing this way, they're safe to hard reset, and should be also to rom upgrade as this is a restricted area where upgrade routines shouldn't go erasing anything.. anyone can confirm this?
Well if anyone CAN confirm that, it would be great! I'm not sure about it though, as I've had some trouble with a faulty battery, and lost some things that were supposed to be in permanent save.
Please - can anybody tell us if permanent save will save contacts during a ROM upgrade?
THANK YOU!

I use O2 XDA mini. I think Permanent Save has a design fault. I have over 2000 contacts. There are many contacts with the same last and first name. For example, David Chan. When I do a restore after a hard reset, if I have more than 1 David Chan, it will prompt me for duplicated contact, and ask me to "overwrite" or "skip". Both options end me up restoring only 1 David Chan, and I lost the remaining 3 or 4 David Chan. Permanent Save is totally "unsafe".
about the outlook and outlook express not liking eachother i would try looking in
controlplan->internet properties tab programs
and check the settings of email and contacts there
Hey,
Im somewhat new to this WM6 stuff. I previously had a Sony Ericsson and when I had switched to my new Wing, I had saved all my Contacts to my SIM card and when I went to load my contacts from my SIM onto my PPC, they all look like "Norman/M; Norman/H; Norman/W" or instead of "Norman Kiwan" it would show "Kiwan;Norman" for all my contacts. It gets really annoying and I was hoping maybe some of you found a program I can use to easily edit/change my contacts on my phone... it would be extremely appreciated! thank you.
- Norman
That's quite simple. Space character is not allowed in name string on SIM That's probably why you have a semicolon between the first and the last name. /M or /H are shortcuts for (M)obile or (H)ome phone number. Remember on SIM one number is always one independent record. Just save numbers to Contacts in your phone, then synchronize with Outlook. Amend contacts there and synchronize back.
ok so pretty much use outlook to change the contact's name... just gotta figure out how to do that with outlook.. ill give it a shot.
Now in terms of using MSN messenger, for some reason even if I put in the settings NOT to sync contacts it still does! and its just a huge mess seeing all these phone contacts and email contact everywhere... is there a way to get rid of those too?
thanks for the help!

** bump **
Not syncing contacts means only not syncing contacts when you sync manually. but when you start messenger it syncs contact's automatically.
Contact manager..amzing and easy install
lol
I hate the way contacts are sorted on wm6 too!
Check this one out is pretty good one, actually i love it!

Haven't had problems with contacts ever since my first WM phone ( got used to it quick) but the only problem I ever had was that you couldn't delete multiple contacts at once. Tried to do this for the first time in over a few years and seems like the SIM Manager has had quite an overhaul since I've last tried to use that feature. If it were a Microsoft program I think we would still be having this program.
Thats enough ranting for now
Peace
Hello,
After many reflashes/hard resets I have come up with an idea for an app if someone feels creative enough to program it. (I have never programmed for Windows Mobile, so I havent a clue where to start).
Have you ever hard-reset and/or reflashed a rom, only to to have forgotten to save a number that has called you previously, that you do not have in your contacts?
The idea is that whenever a call is placed/received/missed, an entry could be placed in the calendar. It could contain:
Phone Number
Duration of call
(Time and date would be set as the 'appointment' in the calendar)
I'm sure that this would be useful to many, since exchange-syncing doesnt sync the call history of any device.
Just an idea if anyone is up for it? Like I said, I'm not a WinMo programmer, yet, although I am going to teach myself at some point.
What do you guys think?
Chris.
I think that's a good idea, but in the meantime I always use PIMBackup to save the calls log & SMS. My contacs, calendar & email are synched to my exchange server.
ive had to flash my phone and it resync'd with outlook and all my contact pictures on htc hd2 (ALMOST 100 of them have pictures) are blurry..
is there a easy fix for this? or do i have to manually fix them all by searching my caller id pics on storage card?
Thanks for any help
Seconded. This is really annoying.
for high resolution pics of contacts, use iconsoft phone extension, and add the pics to the contacts from there...
Third for this! I just did it with the one at a time, took a while >_<

tnx mate, that was great info, but, the trial software will last few more days, and I need permanent solution.
It would be great if somebody cam make freeware simple app "add/edit picture contacts in high quality mode". app designed only for that one task.
Do u have a cub
Hello,
I set EVERY contact I have with Birthday information, and it is perfectly displayed on my X10 mini with cyanogenMod 6. On the Arc however, the birthday field is not shown. I do have a calendar with all the birthdays, but if you have no clue when someones birthday is coming up, this is a real pain in the ass...
Is the birthay only displayed on cyanogenmod or did S/// (for whatever reason...) disable this feature?
Is there a workaround?
Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Linkin
I'm planning to buy Arc ( waiting for it to be available in my country ), and now I'm worried about this as I used to have Birthdays in any contact that I know his/her birthday...
BTW, does Android add a yearly calendar event when adding new birthday to a contact ?
the birthday entries dont get deleted, you just cant see them...
I enabled the option "birthday calendar of your contacts" so when you enter a new contact's birthday it will shop up there, but unfortunately you cant enter it with the xperia arc (at least at the moment...)
Does someone have a solution to this?
I don't have Android yet but I believe there's some apps in the market that will let you do so
yeah, another dialer app might help. But isnt there a way to fix this another way?
If not, can someone tell me, whats the name of the gingerbread stock dialer or give me some tipps?
ok as a solution does anyone have the possibility to give me the apk files for the contacts/dialer app from cyanogenmod 7?
I didnt find them :/
well, since there seems no option to change this, I did the following:
Contapps can show you the birthdays:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.contapps.android&feature=search_result
I tried A LOT OF CONTACT APPS, and this is the only one I found which does show the birthdays, but the way: it seems to be a really good app!
Ebobirthday shows and can give you a reminder for birthdays:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ebomike.ebobirthday&feature=search_result
Keep testing it, but since Contapps does most of it, I think I'll remove it!
Nevertheless: if someone can offer me an apk file to the default gingerbread contact app, I would really appreciate it!
