WiFi range worse on JasJar - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Have had it nearly a week now, my only main complaint is the WiFi
There are areas in my house my Fujitsu Loox 720 and then my M2000 picked up WiFi without a problem, but nothing on the Jasjar.
Also when I am nearer my access point and it does connect it seems much slower at loading web pages.
I've tried Neargear Rangemax, Eircom Netopia and now Linksys WRT54GP2 access points and its the same with them all

MDA PRO wireless wifi problems

Hi,
I've just got my MDA PRO: so far I love it and hate it.
Its works ok in gprs and 3g mode. The wifi has worked for 3 occassions, it never connects properly after it is switched back on again. Now I can't get a stable connection at all.
I have a standard 802.11b access point. It has proved to be very reliable in the 3 years I have had it. Everything can connect to it, bar the MDA PRO.
I have tried setting the AP to 1-13. Doesn't make any difference.
I have used 128bit bit and no WEP.
The AP is 1m (3 feet) away, so no problems with a weak signal.
The firmware is standard, see below for version.
I have done soft and hard resets.
For me wifi is essential.
Can any one help ? I have tried to collect some of the other ROMs from the ftp server, but most don't seem to be available.

You should update your radio rom. I am using the MDA Pro with my Wifi router (WEP enabled). No issues at all.
What Radio ROM are you suggesting?
I too have problems with wifi and my belkin when set with 128bit encryption.
It works fine on my mates Belkin with no security.
Frustrating YES!
found solution
I've fixed my wireless problem - my old wireless router is failing, I found my laptop was dropping the connection too. So I went and bought a new Linksys WRT54GS. Very happy with it, works with all my wifi gadgets with significantly better signal strength too. I've got it working in WEP, b & g mode.

How to improve wifi range ?

There are any tweaks to improve the range of wifi in universal ?
I have already set to maximum in wifi settings the option "optimize for perfomance"
Do you know some registry tweaks or chip hack tecnhics to improve wifi range ?
My friend nokia n80 and my laptopt as far more range than universal.
Just for comparassion the nokia was floating arround excelent and good signal , and my universal was no signal / poor signal and can not connect to internet...
It's not just you..
I think the WiFi range on my XDA IIs needs improving, but I don't know if its a hardware or firmware/software issue..
I've just "upgraded" from a Dell Axim X3 with which I used a Sandisk 256Mb+ WiFi SDIO card and my WiFi range has dropped dramatically.
So why the move?
a) WiFi SD meant swapping SD cards around all the time
b) no bluetooth on the Axim X3 that I had
c) tired of carrying a phone and PDA
I've seen mod's and upgrades on this site, but often it's unclear which devices they're suitable for... Of course, I try the WiKi for BA first..
Help please?
Well, From my experiences, the Universal's wifi range is almost as good as other wifi devices I have... as long as your wireless router is put in the right place.....
I used to have great problems with my universal's wifi connection, it's just not xxxxing stable, I mean it was connected a min ago, and then it disconnect whenever I use it, and I have to be in that very same room with the wifi router to get a stable wifi connection
Therefore, I bring it to the customer service for over 5 times, the repair guy just keep telling me everything is fine, everything is good, your wifi on your universal is PERFECT! And the dan thing is, it work perfectly for over 30 min in their office.
so I kept changing my wifi router, and another..... but then after some time, I found out all I need to do is place my wifi router indoor, Do not place it near/next to any window, but maybe put it in the middle of the apartment/house/office ....
I found out the Universal is easy to disturb by ANY interference, and place your wifi router near/next to your window will somehow do that. Once I place the wifi router "indoor" everything work just fine
try that, I am pretty sure it will work
J
Please let me know if it help ?
Re: Repositioning WiFi Router
Sounds like a good idea, thanks. I'd have to do some fairly major re-wiring to move my wireless unit though as it is the ADSL modem also and in an office which is not in the main house. Maybe I will have to buy a 2nd wireless unit for inside the house; I have a wired connection between the office and the house.
Strange, though. My Axim would always connect from certain rooms in the house, now by BA doesn't. Perhaps the antennae in BA's need improvement

WiFi?

Hi, i recently bought and upgraded a 02 XDA Mini S to WM6 and the wifi seems bad like i have to go right next to the wireless point to get a good signal and even then its not at full bar can any1 help me with this or is it just the wifi is rubbish on the wizard?
thanks,
Kurt
Did you go to start-->settings-->connections tab-->wireless LAN-->power mode tab and set it on best performance? That should give you some more room to work with.
yep still is really bad though about 10 meters and 2 walls away from the router an i couldnt get a signal.
At "10 meters and 2 walls away from the router" I also get no connection -where my Wifi enabled laptop works fine at the same time. Seems like the Wifi on the HTC device is rather weak and operates from a small distance only. Anyways I've learned to live with it.
oh rite well annoying though considering my dell axim x51 can get a very good signal like 30 meters from the access point. is there anyway i can up the power on my wizard? ive got wireless G enabled aswell.
Ya, I have a 7db antennae on my router and I still seem to need to be inside of 20 or so feet, and no walls for my wizard to find the network. I think it's just a weak card.
I also noticed that.
Yes I also noticed that. I have a wifi hotspot subscription and with my old WM5 ROM i can connect and surf without any problem, however when useing any WM6 ROM i just connect poorly and the connection breaks everytime.
Even in my wireless home router i had turn on the name broadcast (enabling WEP of course) in order to connect properly at the first try.
Ive noted this with every WM6 Rom out there and since my device is a G4 i cant upgrade the radio rom. so... well i suffer from this issue also.

Final words about Wireless on HD

I'm not happy about Wireless reception on the HD, I was using one of these La Fonera routers as my home Hotspot with one 10db omnidireccional antenna on top of the house, it was working just fine, good signal inside the house and outside, even some neighbours use my connection, also my last pocket pc was one ETEN M700 and I had almost no problems connecting to the router.
Now with the HD I can only get stable connections with line of sight to the antenna, already tried different channels and b mode only, also changed the wireless setting to best performance on the HD and it improved only a little.
The strange thing is that the HD picks my WRT54GL wireless signal better than the other router signal, this is one router that's inside my house and the HD still picks it up better than the other router that has the outside antenna.
Now my theory is that the HD wireless driver isn't 100% compatible with atheros wireless chips.
Please help me and others to find if we can improve the wireless of the HD.
I would appreciate to have some feedback about the brands and models of routers.
Best regards
I've tried my HD with 2 different types of wireless routers.
With my cheap Netgear DG834G, it works perfectly. Range is very acceptable all round my house (which has solid old internal walls!) and even a way down the road. Streaming apps work just fine, for example listening to internet radio.
On the other hand, when I tried connecting to a friend's "Billion" brand router, it seemed a lot slower and generally a bit.. well, flakey.
From my experience, the wireless reception is acceptable. It's not going to be streaming those HD videos on Youtube but it satisfices my needs.
REception in home is 50% compared to 80 - 100% on my laptop.

can i use with a 802.11N router

hi all i have read that the htc hd2 with a reg edit can run wireless N but is this true, can i use with with a 802.11N router, or will it only work with a 802.11G router,
i need to know as i plan to buy a long range router for work so i can stream DI.FM radio to my htc from my pc and the distance is around 50meter so i want to buy the bets possible router so i can listen to the radio glitch free
info on work network:-
1) 6mb speed via a cable
2) approx 50meters from where i walk / work
It might work at 802.11N standard, but unless your broadband speed is greater than 54Mbs then you'll have nothing to gain. Your router should be backwards compatible to allow 802.11G connection which the HD2 definitely supports, this should be good for speeds up to 54Mbs dependant upon your connection quality.
You'd still get the benefit of greater range, which would in turn mean you'd get a stronger connection. Even a really strong wifi connection on my PS3 only gives me about 700KB/s, despite being on a 20Mb connection (which I can use fully on my wired PC).
I do think, however, that 50m is somewhat optimistic, despite the claims of how good the signal should be (I believe it claims to do 250m outdoors!)
I'd love to try this myself, but don't have a wireless-N router, so can't. I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with this.
Works with ~700kb/s*
I was sending data between laptop and phone with wifi only.
well im going to take my THOMSON TG585v7 i have for my home internet to work i got it with my bethere internet, for free of the provider so im going to try it and see what i get with this,
i have no idea how good this router is though

how far indoors do you get a signal
router is downstairs and even when i'm upstairs i still get signal
Same. Got a Linksys WRT610N. With N-band enabled, not only is the signal strength better, but surfing the net and leeching YouTube vids just flies even though the Internet connection itself is only 12Mbps.
ok all ive decided to buy this for my work to send a N signal to my phone

my broadband speed is only 6mb at work but i just need the range so i hope this will get me at least 50meters walking distance lol.
Seems to only have 2 (small) antenna's though.
My Asus WL500W has 3 antenna's and has a great signal; whole house and garden covered.

Running DD-WRT this beauty does it's job very well.
You could, if the signal is not strong enough or has to get through walls, consider getting a directional antenna to hook up to your router.
This will greatly increase the range.
