I can't read my SD card anymore...I also can't format it... i try format it with my digital camera but still not working.... what else i can do...??? :x :?: :?: :?: :?:
tried storage tools or pocket mechanic ?
tried more then 1 sd card reader ?
if nothing helps RMA the sd card if it's still under warrenty
I have had the same problem ever since I bought a 1GB Viking Card... I´ve posted about this before on the Wallaby pages. My 512 Mb Card is completely stable, but the "one gigger" refuses all the time, I'm on the 3rd now... My only comfort is that I have the same supplier on XDAII and SD Cards :?
The problem is that it seems to be no possible way to rescue the card, I've tried a number of softwares and a couple of different readers, it just doesn´t work, I don´t know if the FAT gets hacked in pieces or what it might be i´m getting quite bored of it now. At first I thought I did wrong when inserting a card on which I copied files before initializing it in the device, but that only had impact on the time that went before crashing: Bad initialization - crash within 1-3 days, Good initialization - crash after after 6 weeks.
One more sad thing about this is that it seems that upgrading to WM5 doesn´t solve it...
I tried to install a minor regkey fix that was told to solve the problem (in the Wallaby forum), but the only thing I got from that was sudden frequent needs of hard resetting...
I don´t really know what to do, but the question is important to try to solve I think. Let´s see what comes out here in a while shall we ???

Has anyone made any progress on this?
So far, my XDA has destroyed a 1GB Toshiba card, and a 512MB Toshiba card.
My 256MB Kingston card is fine...
The 1GB, Amazon replaced for free.
When I say dead, I MEAN dead!
Linux reports "block read error" when trying to access either of them - it's like the FAT descriptor block is being worn out!
Nothing (PDA / Linux / Windoze) can format these things.
A RAW read on the card returns nothing (block read error under linux, hang under Windoze!)
I think my next step is a pointless e-mail to O2 asking what they are going to do - their phone has destroyed two of my cards!
SD Card Problem
I currently work for Islington Council in London, and i am heading up a project where all the Directors/managers are recieving an XDA IIi.
I am currently speaking to someone at O2 who handles the corperate side of their orders. Im sure i will have more sway with them to sort this problem, as we are experiencing a lot of SD card problems and i have multiple orders to be completed. Ive done 60 so far with the intention of doing around 400 within the next year.
Anyone who has been having this VERY annoying problem and going through SD cards like theres no tomorrow please post here as i will be sending him this link so that he can see how common the problem really is.
Cheers for your help guys, im sure we can sort something out ! even if it is only a reason for why its happening !

Hi all,
Had my XDAIIi for a month or so now... beside the odd lockup it's been more or less trouble-free.
However, I put the phone in the cradle today and got a strange message from WMP about sync settings... upon further investigation I found that my storage card is no longer recognised by my phone. It a Viking 512mb card.
I can't see it on File Explorer or via exploring on Active Sync. It's as if no card is plugged in... I tried another old 8mb card that I had and it works fine.
What should I do. Try to return the card, or is there a way I can reformat it? Any advice would be helpful...
Hi
I got the same problem, this is the second SD, I got the same weird msg.
Did you find a way to fix it?
The SD is not recognize neither in digitals cameras (tried only one) or other pocket pcs (other XDAlli and an HP).
I've heard form some friend that lot of people are getting this problem...
maybe vikings are troublesome..

Yep my new XDAlli killed a dane-lec 512mb card after a couple of weeks.. Couldn't use it in anything. Got another 512mb card this time branded as PRT?? card has been OK for the last 4 weeks but I do get the "storage card detected - search for audio & video files" message every now and then.. I also find the XDA can't see the card sometimes but a quick removal & replacement fixes the issue. I have also notice xbackup now takes around 10 mins..It was taking over an hour with the dane-lec...
I'm sure there is a compatibility issue with somecards..
AMAZING
I just read this post out of interest, casually browsing through the forum waiting for 5 o'clock , went to my XDA 2 and guess what.... no storage card!!!
Forunately, a soft reset was all it needed but how spooky
odd my xda2 like all others take a few sec's to reinit the sd card when it wakes up
and if it's needing some batt it dont
i've used sandisk slow version 128MB
and now kingston ultra something something 512MB
never had any issues apart from the sandisk being superslow
So once it's toast, is it really toast or can I somehow reformat it?
I guess I'll try to return it...
Can anyone recommend a card that hasn't reported any issues?
I am having the same problem... I am using PNY cards and am now on my fourth card. I am going to try a new branded card when i get the chance. People seem satisfied with ScanDisk cards so am going to try them.
MMCdata not seen
My XDA II recognize my MMC but file explorer does not show all of the data. Even my card reader does not show the data in MMC. But memory shows that Card is in use and all of the data is there as shown by the memory used... Please help!
Hi,
This is my first post in this forum so I apologise if I am breaking any rules concerning repeating posts.
My problem is that I have a 2Gb mini SD card which appears to be very unreliable when used with the Vario. Sometimes I cannot get it to work at all. Well, sometimes I can get it to work .
However, when I insert it on an Axim PDA it works 100% of the times (through a mini-normal adapter).
I suspect that the problem may be with the Vario itself particularly the contacts mechanism. The reason I am saying this is that I can make it work sometimes by adding a bit of tape to the opposite side of the contacts in an attempt to make them press more against the Vario's ones. But this doesn't always cure the problem.
I am wondering whether anyone has any thoughts about this problem instead of just blaming the sd-card.
Cheers
jmf
I bought a 2GB card too that was acting weird with the MDA Vario. It was one from Transcend. Sometimes parts would be visible, sometimes the whole card was invisible. Returned it to the reseller, and asked for a Sandisk instead. Not the fastest card in the world, but at least it works. Not sure why the Transcend card wouldn't work though...
If you can, exchange the card for another.
I've had similar issues as the OP with my Kingston. It either shows up or doesn't. If it just refuses to show up, I can usually soft-boot to get it back. Often though, just reinserting it several times will eventually get it back online. Very odd problem though.
Thanks for your replies guys,
I think I am going to try a new card just for my piece of mind. But judging by the number of issues on mini-sd cards associated with the Vario I would say it is a phone issue rather then a card issue.
Is there a range of cards that don't seem to give problems with the Vario?
Cheers
jmf
there r many fakes around, many many...so they r not phone issues but different card problems...i use a 1gb nokia (not the best brand) that is working perfectly but i read somewhere that someone had problems with kingston (yea, kingston, mister memory in person, they make really good memorys) so i guess is a matter of luck and formating the card every now and then...i do it using wm5torage...
i had bought a 2gig Topram off ebay about 5-6 months ago, has worked flawlessly, had a 1gig topram before that, never had issues with either
Hi,
It appears that the best thing to do is to put a little bit of tape on the card (on the side opposite to the contacts).
Doing this seems to increase the number of times the card works.
I am now using 2 layers. I am wondering whether I am loosening the contacts and will, as a result, need to add more layers in the future.
Dodgy.....

Howdy,
Xda rocks! Top of the line situation!
The mini worked fine for a few weeks!
Than after installing some cab yesterday the 8125 locked up and locked up until I removed the sd card!
I cant locate the cab that did it, if that was the real problem anyway?
So with NO sd card the 8125 is about useless, except for a phone!
Great phone, but the pda has no storage now!
I sync and no problem, until I install the card than "FREEZE solid" and I have to eject the card, soft reset and good to go in the limited way!
Could someone help before I sling the thing!
Thanks very much!
Just added. . .. .. . ... . ... .. .. . ..
I did the deadly HARD reset and the card works now!
I didn't want to do that!
Cause I didn't have a backup but the thing is brand new so I didn't loose much!
Later
I used my Qtek 9100 with a PQI 512mb miniSD for a good few weeks and it worked flawlessly. I had another unbranded 2gb miniSD card and decided to copy everything on to that and use it so I'd have more space for music. To cut a long story short, this worked fine for a few days then I started noticing WMPlayer acting up. I checked the card and loads of files seemed to be corrupt. After playing around with it for a while I eventually gave up and decided it must be a duff card.
So, I bought a 2gb PQI miniSD which I had read good reviews off. However, I'm having the same issue. I've tried everything I can think of 1) hard resets, 2) soft resets 3) re-installing apps 4) formatting in a couple of different PCs with a couple of different card readers 5) formatting from the StorageTools on the phone 6) formatting using WM5torage.
I can install apps and they seem to be okay, but then when I try and run them I get errors and when I look at the card its because of corrupt files.
I have no idea what is going on and I'm at the end of my tether.
I'm using the latest Qtek 9100 ROM from their website. Is this perhaps a bug in the ROM? Would I be better with another ROM? Which one? Will this still leave my 'phone SIM unlocked if I use a non-standard ROM?
HELP? Please?
Hey,
I do hope this is within this topic!
I've got aLmost the same problem, except I have some files just disapear on my 2GB mini, and some stay!
Lost a GIG of music, and most of my WORD docs, [60MB] and it left me 2MBs after removing Skype!
Real WEIRD!
Ive got a 8125 and stuff on the SD card just disappears after I remove an app!
Since this has happed more than 3 times and the 2GB mini tested OK, whats up with the device!
Is it the connections in the device to the SD card, or what?
Thanks for XDA-developers!
I have a 2gb card in my Qtek 9100. I've had it for about 2 weeks, and I got the card the day after I got the 9100. Sofar I haven't noticed any missing files. It's a 2gb Sandisk
I just thought to add this. Do you have the enhanced performance option in RegistryWizard enabled, or have you made the registry change to enable caching of the file system?
I was noticing that my recent programs on the start menu were being lost on occasion during a soft reset. I disabled that "enhanced performance" (caching) and that problem has disappeared. It makes sense that it would cause data loss or corruption, since data is being cached, if the cache doesn't write out before you reset, you loose everything in cache. I didn't notice any real world performance increase, so I will just leave that disabled.
If you have that setting enabled, and soft reset often, then that might explain the data loss/corruption
Success!
Well, I got hold of CnetX Flash Format program and this seems to have done the trick. I installed it and tried formatting the 2gb card as FAT32 - this gave the same problems I had before.
Formatted it as Fat 16 with 32k Cluster and lo and behold its working like a dream. Copied all my stuff from 512Mb card to it and now I'm syncing all my music over.
Fingers crossed it stays this way!
Scrub that......
.....just failed syncing my music over. Managed to get 950Mb of stuff on the card and then it started doing exactly what it was doing before. Hmmm....i'm really stuck now.
Howdy,
Well now today all my stuff on the care is gone POOF excect one little word file and a few omaclock things and a few folders!
All music is gone but the music folder is there WOW!
I already reformatted a few weeks ago to Fat 32 form the other one!

Yep I moved 1 + GBs music into a "music" folder again!
Installed a app from xda, here called omanclockscaller.exe or something like that and set the overclock (speed of the processor) to 240 and the underclock to 150 (which was stated to work on another 8125)
and my device FROZE to the max couldn't soft reset or nothing so I had to do the HARD reset!
Looked in the SD card saw the folder "music" and NOTHING in it, just blank!
All subfiles were gone, POOF!
When to the main area of the SD card and ticked on a Mp3 file that was sitting there and it said player said "file stopped." 70%
Went to another MP3 file, tapped, and it said blah, blah "end of file" and would not play!
SO everything on the SD card, cept dah empty folders are either
1. corrupted
OR
2. GONE bye bye!
So NOW since the 8125 might not be the "slowest" brick on the block, and wont run, Skype unless its "overclocked," and I can't go thru another 50 some pages on xda to find the "fix" for dah SD wiping weirdness, and the overclocking tricks of the techs, I guess I get to go to Cingular, exchange dah phone (as it ain't no good as a PDA, but a great heavy phone) and than sell the NEW one on ebay for 350 with the New 2200MHz extended battery, and someone who is more techey than I can enjoy tweaking the thing!
Ive done 5 full Hard resets and have had to redo most everything, 5 times, settings etc, and its getting real time consuming, to state the least!
So since I got this pos on ebey and it has a 2yr. warrantee I guess its getting ready to get gone!
Hope someone like d0ug can help you out, really!

What brands are the Memory Cards? Where did you buy them from? Is it just in the Wizard that the card is being corrupt or does it work flawlessly in a memory card reader? Cause from what I've read it sounds like PEBKAC.
Card brand
My first card was unbranded so not overly surprised I had problems. This one is PQI but I think perhaps its because PQI cards are MLC (multi layer construction). Apparently Sandisk are SLC (single layer construction) and they should work okay.
I might just have to fork out more money and see.
The card works perfectly in my PC with card reader.
Excuse the ignorance but what is PEBKAC (or should I not ask!)?

Does the MLC/SLC thing sound viable? Has anybody got experience of using Sandisk 2Gb cards with the Wizard?
Hey scottjames,
I don't know if this helps as I was using Winamp files and wasn't using Win Media on my PC so that may be why the files got corrupt or just disapeared when I went in again and tried to play them!
So I diched Winamp and am using the gates special and so far so good!
I don't know if that may help but hope so!
Cingular is going to exchange my phone for too many other reasons!
Have a good one, and thanks everyone here!

I've been using a SanDisk 2GB card to capacity sine April of this year, I change the contents of the card pretty often as I use it as my mp3/video player, using both the WM5Storage program and a memory card reader in my PC. Has been flawless.

I filled my card lastnight, and have used the pda as normal thoughout the day today. accessed files, copied files, created files, deleted files. I'm not having any issues with my sandisk 2gb.
Thanks
Thanks everyone. I'll maybe just get myself a Sandisk card and let you know how I get on.
I have a Sandisk 2GB and whilst not experiencing the issues above I do have other problems.
When accessing eBooks via Microsoft Reader or playing video files via TCPMP the device will occasionally freeze and the apps cant even be killed by the taskmanager. I have a standard TMobile install and these are the only two additional apps that have been installed.
Ejecting the card usually frees it up.
To be fair I haven't yet tried the card in another device to establish if the card itself is faulty.
my miniSD card keeps crashing.. every time i reformat it.. (just bought it brand new 2 weeks ago.) but it keeps crashing after a little while..
so my girlfriends dad put tomtom 6 on mij sd card last night..
i look in the morning.. and 90% of my mp3 songs wont work anymore.. and my entire map with tomtom in it was gone?????? like wtf??
i got a wizard G3 with the underground edition.. and a 1 GB miniSD card..
reformated it on the computer and with more then 1 program on the phone..
(on the pc was my last time.. (like 2 hours ago...) did not crash so far..)
any1 has a solution for me??
thnx and greetz
where did you buy the card? what brand is it? how did you format it before it crash? is the card size displayed on the PC correct?
i bought it @ norrod in groningen/holland.. brand ... dunno... i used the phone to format it right after i bought it... and yes.. its being displayed normally.. unless it crashes.. cause even on the computer it wont copy things off.
even though.. it crashed again.. all the data was gone.. but at memory it still sees 50 mb used.. :\
god damn it.. i'm going to throw that *#&(#&%(&^)@)(!(@%$& phone out the window :S
I presume Norrod is a name of a shop. Anyway, it seems to be reputable. Unless you can confirm the brand, chances are it may be a faulty one (luck is not on your side). However, the good news is that, it may be a 1 off thing that it may not happen again. There are chances of SD card being wacky if you have your phone hanged and soft reset, which happened to be once when I was messing with my phone. But it never occurred again.
As for formatting on the phone, there are members reporting problems with card formatted on the phone. Since you have formatted on the PC, it ought to solve that problem. Hopefully it won't happen again.
well i had a 512 mb kingston before.. and it crashed 2.. so i threw it away.. cause it had bad sectors.. ( i had that 1 for about 1 year...)
and now this 1 crashes.. i thought mayby it had something to do with the underground edition and the omapclock.. from 180 to 228 or 240..
but it doesn't seem to be.. cause i've been running the last 2 days on normal 180...
I have a 2Gb unbranded memory card and have the same problem, I've managed to find that the memory gets corrupt when the card gets cold (3-4 Deg c), it's fine at room temp.
Got to replace it at some point.
Kingston cards usually have a lifetime guarantee... if you are able to find the package and the card, you may able to get yourself a new card.
hi
Try benchmark tools to evaluate the memory card..
before buying the memory cards..
SD carda
What is it about SD cards and Wizards. If mine takes a slight knock it cant see the card anymore - I have to re-insert it.
I recently got a cheap 2GB card from Hong Kong. Was a load of rubbish. Top tip, dont make the same mistake. Basically had a load of bad sectors and crc write errored all the time.
I have my old 1GB card in at the mo, and apart from the knocking issue (almost certainly a fault with the wizard) it works fine.
Anyone come across the issue where the SD card cant be seen by the phone anymore?

Hi everyone, I recently started having the same problem with my 1gb mem card, and its starting to annoy me now. Would'nt mind to much if I new what caused it. I havent knocked the phone or played around the the mini sd card.
Quick question, Just wondering whats the largest memory card you can put in a xda mini s.
Thanks
Mark
I have had the same problem as most of you. Here is an semi-HONEST answer from HTC..........
"Dear Customer,
Thanks for your email regarding your P3600.? The issue you describe is something we are aware of and are currently in the process of rectifying.? It seems to be linked in some way to the latest updates to Windows Mobile 5 and as such we have also enlisted Microsoft's help in solving this.? It seems that the device is accessing the memory while it is in an idle state.
We are currently still investigating the matter with the help of our engineers in Taiwan, but in the meantime, to workaround the problem you can set the device to turn itself off after 1 minute in the power options, then let the device turn itself off instead of pressing the power button.
Once we have fixed the problem, I have no doubt it will be released in some sort of ROM update in the near future.
Thank you for your patience in this matter. "
Although they blame it on someone else, as usual, they are aware of this problem. I have not heard of this problem in the TyTn and it is basically the same
I'll try this. Thanks for the info.

Ok now I know why I never had problems with my miniSD card!!! That's exactly my configuration! And 99% of the times I let the phone turn itself off after 1 minute without pressing the power button....
That´s just stupid i always press the power button and no issues from this side, had them with a kingston card but not with my actual sandisk.
cheers
Same here, I always use the power button and use a Sandisk without issues.(never tried other brands)
Apoc and fluke, your logic is flawed. Just because you don't get the effect with certain cards doesn't mean its not broken.
How about this scenario:
auto-turn of always works (card independant)
power-off fails on some cards (like Kingston)
Clearly your experiences do not contradict their explanation
Sorry, but I'm just supplying user-feedback, that's what happens with my trinity+sandisk. I'm not supporting X or Y's logic.
The "auto turn off" trick doesn't work for me. I have a takems 2GB minisd card.

I am using a Kingston 2GB mini SD, and I don't have that problem...yet.
I have a Kingston too 2GB no problem in the phone. However, when I transfer mp3s from my dell laptop (with built in SD card reader) I get I/O errors (I've reformatted, and tried with other SD cards that have no problem). When I transfer to the card over activesync through the phone i have no issues... it just takes a year to do it. Any one else?
