The whole point of flight mode is that it turns off all wireless activity. GSM, BT, and WiFi.

what device do you have? I have XDAII and when I turn the flight mode ON (=all radios are off), I can then click the Bluetooth icon on Today screen and turn the Bluetooth on. It seems to work fine even the phone radio is disabled.
And I agree with AlanJC^^^^^, just keep it off when flying.

You know sounds that come out of a radio when you put a phone next to it??
Well my xda2i makes the sound when running tomtom and it then freezes and needs a reset.
It does it every 5 minutes!! and i cannot use my XDA2i in the car!!
Any solution to this?

I believe there is a problem with that setup whereby the system freezes when the radio is changing gsm masts while mobile, flight mode should cure it, pain in the ass though having to switch off the phone when navigating.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24268
It has to be down to each individual phone and equipment as mine works like a dream  No reason why changing GSM masts should affect tomtom at all.
I always try to make sure all running programs are ended first as they could be still there in the background.

Hello,
I tried searching the forum and couldn't get a result for my problem, that's why I'm posting here.
My Qtek causes the speakers PC speakers in the office and at home to produce that typical sound distortion. I don't know the correct term in english, but you know what I'm talking about - when the mobile phone rings and there are speakers turned on around it the speakers produce that annoying sound.
Well, mine doesn't do it only when it's ringing. It does it all the time (every 10-15 seconds). As you might guess this is really annoying to me and my colleagues at work. I tested it and it's difinately the phone causing it, since I have all other wireless options turned off. I've never experienced this issue with my previous phones and noone at the office has the same problem. I'm really baffled. I guess it does that every time it pings the mobile network, but since I'm not a techie I don't really know how to fix this.
Has anyone experienced that with the Qtek, or any other phone for that matter? How do I fix it? Right now I have to turn off my phone while at work...
Regards,
are you connected to gprs by any chance? even if you are it shouldn't make thAt sound unless theres data transfer. if your not connected to gprs, not recieving/making a call or message then i'd say your phones refresh rate of the cell signal is too fast. how to change that, i don't know but could have to do with your sim card.
also u could simply turn your speakers off.
i just thought of this but do you have "Broadcast Channels" on?
Not just me then i wondered what was going on!!
i drive a wagon with cb radio installed and what seems to be every minute or so i get the same noise.it gets worse when i connect to gprs so bad i have to turn cb off.
never had this problem with c500.
any ideas anyone?

GPRS is off. "Broadcast Channels" is disabled. Unfortunately turning off the speakers is not an options since they're essential to my work.
Hmm, do you think it could be the SIM card and a simple change of mobile service provider might fix that?
Regards,
again, i'm not a pro on this topic, but if you could get a hold of another sim card from a friend and plug it into your device and see if it stops doing that then your sim card is the problem. so try a couple cards out, one from your provider and one from another provider and see what happens.
My Qtek 9100 does this sound every 10 minutes or so. But I've experiensed that the sound disappears when I move the phone into a better location. I've found a couple of places in my room where this sound doesn't appear. Best way to find such place is to make a phone cal and then while the phone is calling just move it around and see where that annoying sound disappears.
Hope this helps you too. I can imagine that sound driving you mad, as it can be heard so often... For me 4-5 times in an hour was too much.
Hello All,
I seem to be having a problem with the Flight Mode setting. My phone goes through stages of complaining about the flight mode repeatedly. It keeps asking me to turn off the flight mode when I try to use tomtom or enable bluetooth, but flight mode is not on. This is starting to get very tedious and I am not sure what is wrong. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Cheers,
Matt
@,
i had the same problem using mponeschedule.
Installed microsoft.NET compact framework 1.0 sp3 for ppc and the symptoms disappeared.
Cheers

It could be that you are experiencing a similar problem to me. You don't have a Qtek S100/S110 with similar firmware to me do you (please see my sig). If you do then there seems to be a problem with the interaction between bluetooth and flightmode in that ROM.
The way I fixed it was to use the very good (and free) PPCProfiles-Pro which can be found on the www.modaco.com site.
This is phone profile software. I've got 3 of the profiles set as follows:
1. Radio on / bluetooth on - when I'm in the car
2. Radio off / bluetooth on - when I'm hiking with my GPS
3. Radio off / bluetooth off.
As long as you don't turn the radio off by using the standard flight mode method you should stop getting the annoying messages.
i have the same problem i made HR Now everythin good

It's not only that rom with these symptoms. I got TMO 1.13 & after installing profilers it appeared for the first time. I've got the latest .net as well & it doesn't help a bit. Maybe I need to reinstall it to fix some screw-ups. Apperently the radio can come in some sort of inconclusive state claiming flight-mode should be switched off, when it's not. I even managed to have BT on, while I was in flightmode.
M
I am having the same problem with i-mate JAM ROM:1.12.00 WWE and Radio V:1.12.10.
It happens when I change my profile to Bluetooth using PhoneAlarm V1.30.01. My workaround is to remove my bluetooth device and re-add it. This makes the message to disappear but after some days it comes back. It should be related to a sequence of keystrokes or something..
I had the "turn off flight mode" problem the other day. It took ages trying to stop it from happening, even after a soft reset!
In that particular case I think it was because I used a btcicle program to turn on bluetooth rather than doing it from PPCProfiles-Pro.
My advice to people is that if they use PPCProfiles-Pro to do this then don't use any other program to turn BT on or off and don't use the Microsoft flightmode either as the magician seems to get thoroughly confused. Set up your profiles so that you can do what you want just by switching profile in PPCProfiles-Pro.
Note. I tried PhoneAlarm a while back but that didn't work properly on my machine.
Hey
See if this solves it:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\FlightMode]
"IsFMCheckEnable"=dword:00000000
"WarningMsg"="Please turn Flight Mode off first"
Default Value is:
"IsFMCheckEnable"=dword:00000001
This works on the Blueangel, Himalaya, and Alpine. Sorry, I don't have a Magician to test.
Good Luck!!

Thanks moghisi101, I tried the fix. In my particular ROM (a Qtek) the IsFMCheckEnable doesn't exist so I added it in. Thought it was working but I got the old "Turn off flight mode" mesage yesterday. It's definately a problem with my ROM. It took me about 5 attempts to get bluetooth turned on.
So, in my earlier post when I said:
"As long as you don't turn the radio off by using the standard flight mode method you should stop getting the annoying messages."
it seems I was wrong. It doesn't matter how you try to turn on bluetooth, if you have this ROM on a Qtek, you are gonna get that message from time to time.
Thing is the rest of the pocketPC works great (for the most part) so I guess I'll just put up with it.

I solved this problem in my oun way,
just rename Phone.lnk into TPhone.lnk ,path to anywhere.
& nothing control radio even without soft reset
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\FlightMode]
"PhoneLocalizedName"="Phone.lnk"
Most ROMs do not allow you to use the FM Radio when Airplane mode is on. But, there are some ROMs that allow you to do this.
Does anyone know what you have to do to enable this?
Don't know about that. When in airplane mode you are turning off the radio hardware. Atleast this is what it's supposed to be doing. If you have run a ROM that allowed you to run the FM radio on while in airplane mode then it was not truly being put into airplane mode.

But it is not transmitting - it is only receiving - so it should be allowed.

Transmitting vs receiving DOES NOT MATTER - either one is not allowed. Furthermore, what's the point of using FM Radio while in a plane to begin with? You DO understand that if you are even able to get a station (which you most likely won't) that you're gonna loose contact with it inside 20 seconds...right?

he probably just wants to use the fm radio while keeping the phone reception off, but not necessarily (and most unlikely) while actually being on a plane
And by the way I got to thinking about it myself, but regarding wifi and bt functionality. Turning off the phone by just switching to "off" the "telephone" row in wireless connections settings, shouldn't in theory disable turning on wifi and bt, since they are on different rows. Anyway, never really needed to use airplane mode until now, nor I got out of my laziness to test it for the sake of it
in airplain FM doesn't work. no radio )))
My phone is apparently in airplane mode...
but in the comm manager it does not list airplane mode,
it offers wireless connections with an airplane for the icon
everytime i try to disable it, the phone setting do whatever it does
someone explain how to make my phone work
i hate this phone so much
Wat? Are you saying that disabling Airplane mode doesn't work, or are you saying that you can't find AP mode? Wireless Connections in the stock HTC Comm. manager IS airplane mode.
i am traveling and i got off the airplane, and can get no service whatsoever
i know my service provider provides out here, because people im staying with have it
Have you reset your phone?
i have turned it off and on and tried pulling the battery and nothing helps
I Have the same problem with My HTC HD2, the phone will not come out from airplane mode, it will show data connection and wireless connection but the plane icon in the notification bar won't disapear and no network service :S any help please....

It could be actually that your network is really unavailable. Try another sim card.

Me similar for HD2WM65.
Updated EURO Radio Rom(s), correctly. Many Rilphone dll cabs tested and now APmode off as well as Phone Setting. Can only enable Bluetooth (green) or WiFi Router (while greyed out and green) at the moment.
Need get out of jail free card
I recently migrated from my HD2 to an Amaze, and wanted to make my HD2 into a media/browsing/app only device. pretty much have it like an ipod touch. it works fine sans the SIM card, but I hate seeing the no SIM card message, the dead bars, and would rather just ditch the 911 ability. is there a media only type of rom for the HD2, or maybe know of a way to disable the phone system and still leave wifi?
Dude y u go for it? Just keep it in flight mode. The radio will be dissabled and will take no battery. But if you try to avoid it, from rom, it may cause problems with Bluetooth, wifi, etc. So u will loose connectivity to internet.
send from my hd2 @ miui 1.12.2

I think if you turn it into Airplane mode then switch on Wifi or Bluetooth manually it turns only those parts on, i.e. no phone/data but fully functional WiFi
ok, that works. but now i would love to get rid of the annoying "insert SIM/emergency calls only" message on the lock screen. any simple fix for that?
