No data services for Siemens SX56 - not recognized IMEI - Networking

Hi,
I recently purchased an unlocked Siemens SX56. The carrier that I want to subscribe to, says that I can have voice service but not data service (e-mail, internet, etc). The reason is that IMEI number is not recognized in their network, which is Cingular, USA.
My question is if there is something to be done about it? Or are there other ways of connecting to Internet, except for the voice provider?
I appreciate your opinions.
Thanks,
Ovi

unlocking s46

i have a siememns s46 cell with ATT wireless. When i try to use the built in modem to dail into the isp it does not work. After going through some forums i found out this is becasue att locks the device. Is there a way to unlock my s46.
thanks
sree
The locking ahs to do with you not being able to use SIM-cards from other providers in your phone. If your provider has indeed blocked calls to other provider's dial-ins, you can't do anything to the phone to make that go away.
Also, ATTWS does not support CSD (Circuit Switched Data) so you cannot use the phone as a dial upmodem on their network.

Assume I can't use Web Services

Hi all.
Just unlocked an O2 XDA and inserted a Voda sim.
Voice works great. Do I take it i now can't connnect to the internet?
I presume it's O2 specific and that I can't
a) Connect to it now I'm not using an O2 sim?
b) Connect via Voda because they don't have such a service?
Is there any way to connect to the O2 data service while using somebody elses sim for voice??
Pushing it a bit I know but there you go.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
You just need to create a new connection in settings/connections and enter the details for your vodafone service provider. I dont know if you can access one service providers services using a third party sim card.

blocked phone

i have recently bought an xda exec that is blocked to uk networks.
will a three network sim work in it?,has anyone tried?
If it's blocked to UK networks, it's ALL UK networks sorry...
When you say "blocked" do you mean that it is IMEI blacklisted or that there is a network lock on the phone that stops you using UK SIMs?
If it is IMEI blocked you're stuck. I haven't read of an IMEI change solution for the Universal yet, but that is illegal anyway (prison sentence illegal, not just a smack on the wrist).
If your phone is SIMlocked you can use the unlocking tool on Buzz's site to disable all locks.
the phone is unlocked, but says no sevice,if i put in a virgin sim it has a signal but you cant make calls.
Thats good then,, its unlocked but Virgin doesnt have settings for the Universal yet so your a little stuck other then that try flashing it with Tmobiles ROM that may help as Virgin is a sub group of Tmobile

please don't post answers like this when you don't know what you're saying to be 100% true.
a) ROMs don't affect gsm service - it's all contained in the SIM (that's what SIMs are specifically for). every rom of a particular version of wm has the same phone program - just different skins.
b) gsm communication is standard across all handsets - there are no "settings for universal" other than for MMS and a few other things (which are not the subject here)
c) virgin rent bandwidth from a number of companies including t-mobile (i.e. they are a virtual provider)

If my provider detects two phones talking at the same time with the same IMEI?

I'm in Canada and I'm using FIDO. If my service provider detects two phones with the same IMEI talking at the same time, will it ban my account? Or, will it be able to detect this at all?
I have this question because I am looking at an unlimited websurfing plan offered by FIDO, only for $7! But it is available to only a list of non-PDA/no-smartphones that are purchased from FIDO. The way it works is that FIDO has a database of permited IMEIs. Only the phones with the listed IMEI can use the unlimited plan. Devices with other IMEIs are charged pay-per-use, even the phone owner is with this unlimited web surfing plan! I'm thinking, the easiest way to go around this is to ask my friend with a normal FIDO phone for an IMEI, then change the IMEI of my Tornado to that one, and then surf unlimited! (purely theory talk, not tested yet.)
My worry now is that if both my friend's and my account will be banned. That doesn't look good.

If the network detects 2 phones with the same IMEI then it will lockout both from the network. Besides, I'm not sure about Canada, but here in the US IMEI spoofing is illegal.

Yes cloning an imei nuber is illegal in pretty much all countries. why not get one of the correct phones. then since most can act as a modem over bluetooth just pair the phone and setup the manual connection. that way the imei doing the downloading is the correct phone. I do similar with mine if I want to use one of my other phones on web-n-walk without swapping sims. except now that wifirouter works I don't have to use bluetooth anymore

Yes, That's why I said "Here in the US..." I do not live in Canada, and do not know much about Canadian law, but I would assume that IMEI spoofing is illegal there as well. Whether or not its illegal the network will still lockout both devices if it detects two with the same IMEI.

purchase a phone from fido, duplicate the imei on ur ppc--then don't use thr original phone u got from fido.

Thanks. for example, if I buy a LG chocolate and put its IMEI onto my Tornado, and then my phone is detected as a chocolate from then on? Will providers have other techniques to find out that my phone is not the type of phone that stated in the IMEI?
I damaged my stock rom then I flashed rom for my device downloaded from internet. In settings I see IMEI is not same as on the box.
Should I change it to IMEI as on the box or leave it.

Qtek 9100 not working on Florida T-mobile network

Hi all,
I hope this argument has not been already discussed. Because all the keyword related to this specific problem are very general, I'm having an hard time searching for related posts...
I have a Qtek 9100 (not branded and never locked to any company) that I used successfully with all the Italian mobile companies. I moved to Florida couple of month ago, and my Vodafone SIM has been working fine in roaming.
Because roaming is not cheap at all , I just bought a t-mobile SIM card. But when I insert it the phone says "Waiting for connection" forever. If I try to select the network manually, the only available one is "cingular".
I also bought an At&T SIM, that according to AT&T and T-Mobile customer services, should have exactly the same technology for GSM connection, and so my phone should work either on both or none...). Strange enough, it works perfectly with the At&T.
However, I would like to use T-Mobile, as it is much cheaper for the type of service I need.
Can anyone help me? Do you think it can be related to the GSM firmware?
Thanks
Giacomo
Did you try flashing a stock t-mobile ROM to it?
