I just purchased the Fortuna Clip_On Bluetooth Reciever for my XDAII. First install went fine, I set it all up and used it walking home from the station. The TomTom software worked faultlessly and was quick to use. When I got home I closed TomTom, turned off the GPS and put the XDAII on the charger. In the morning I opened TomTom to setup a trip to France. When I opened TomTom it was VERY slow. It took about 8mins to open the application and navigating around the software was impossible. It did not crash or give me any errors it was just real slow. I uninstalled the application and reinstalled it. This seemed to solve the situation temporarily and off I set on my journey. After the first leg of my Journey I turned it off whilst on the Ferry. Next time I turned it on it was back to snails pace and so rendered it useless for the rest of my journey.
Any ideas whats going on? Is this a common problem?

What type of card? sd/mmc?
what version xda roms
what other apps. e.g. GPRS mon is known to cause problems sometimes.
try tomtom 3, it's much faster / more reliable.
I'm using xda2(1.6) + sd +cf, tomtom 3.01 + fortuna gps without problems.
you need GPS driver version 2.09!!!
I had the same problem cause I was using driver version 2.00, then I moved to v2.09 and it worked perfectly.
Ciao
I tried last week TomTom3 + i-mate+ Royaltek BT GPS, I drove in the UK. Everything worked very good all the time.
I am using all the latest ROMS, with Bluetooth tools.
How can I check my BT driver version?
It is a 256 SD card (Viking Interworks)
Rom Version: 1.60.00WWE
ROM Date: 12/03/03
Radio Version: 1.10.00
Protocol Version: 1.337.18
ExtROM Version: 1.60.50
Not much else is installed, I am using 1-calc and the check/clear notifications app. Thats it
Where do I get the updated GPS Driver?
give me your email via pvt msg and I will send to you, ok?
I tried to post it in the forum, but no way.....
its ok i found it on pocketgps. However it has not solved the problem. I installed the GPS update, cold booted and the same problem exists
Any other ideas?
what i do not understand is why it would work perfectly for about 2 hours then just slow right down like this.
Have you set GPS connections to:
- TomTom Wireless GPS
- Bluetooth GPS
I have these settings in v2.09 GPS and it work perfectly with fortuna clip-on...
I repeat that I had the same identical problem as you have and I solved with 2.09 driver and the settings you see above...
good luck
oops, actually i just noticed its 2.07 i updated to.
How big is the 2.09 update?
I found the 2.09 update on the web, but its not solved anything
after the update it is still really slow

?????????????????? WHAT ABOUT YOUR SETTINGS ??????????????
GPS Connections? I'm not sure what you mean by this?
Under TomTom GPS I have it set to:
SiRF 38400
COM5
I have it unticked at the moment as I am just trying to get it working properly. The PDA Slider is set to Zzz and sound is on.
Under TomTom GPS I have it set to:

and see what happen... 99% you solve with this settings cause it was the same for me. TRY these settings, let fortuna and XDA2 communicate and that's it!
I don't want fortuna and xda2 to communicate. I want to be able to use create routes without the gps reciever connected. At the moment it takes about 5mins for TomTom to just launch.
i tried these settings and it is still slow, i timed 6mins to launch the application and a further 1min to open the menu.
what other apps?
Wizer,
What other apps do you have?
Have you tried hard reset + reinstall ? First backup with say sprite backup.
I think this is driver related. Uninstall tomtom then reinstall with the latest gps drivers, I am not sure you should be selecting sirf 38400 either.
i tried installing from clean install and i tried with the latest GPS drivers. Nothing solved it. In the end I have had to install tomtom3 which has strangely solved the problem for now. All I have to do now is find the Great Britain maps
I have installed Tom Tom 3 software on my XDA 2 and it "freezes" during navigation for no apparent reason. It also crashes the nav software when the phone has an incoming call. Have spoken to both 02 and Tom Tom who both blame each other (no change there then) have updated software from both and completley cleared software with a hard reboot and re-installed Tom Tom to no avail.
Any ideas???
Which type of gps are you using, what are your gps settings, are you using bluetooth tools, are you using the latest gps driver from www.tomtom.com, does it crash only on incoming call. :?:
Are you using the Traffic plug-in? that's really buggy and works poorly - used to crash mine regularly (xda II w/ bluetooth)
I am now using for 4 days the 1.72 ROM (incl the essential Extended Rom stuff). I bonded my BT GPS, it configured automatically COM5.
Since then I occasionally have freezes in the TomTom navigator (TTN & TTGPS 3.03): Navigation screen seems to 'hang'. I am able to tap the screen though and exit TomTom the official way. When I restart TTN it works again until the next unpredictable freeze.
No direct link to the Phone application.
Beforehand I used the 1.72 ROM with some 1.60.36 T-Mobile customizations (incl. some bluetooth stuf in OEM_WWE_03120301.sa.CAB ). At first this gave some trouble, but after fiddling around (install Pocket Bluetools & de-installed it) I managed to connect my BT GPS using 'Bluetooth GPS' in TomTom3 and it all worked like a charm. Only setback was that I could not approach my Bt GPS via a COM port. (And I want that to occasionally enable/disable WAAS/EGNOS)
Any clues???
Hi all, I bought a Qtek S100 and tried to connect it with my BT GPS receiver (Falcom Navi 1). It didn't work properly and I suddely lost te BT icon on the lower right hand side of the S100. It hasn't re-appeared even after several soft resets?
Does the S100 have the sae BT problems with GPS as the xdaII had?
I use BT GPS and the only problem so far is that I have to re-pair them sometimes.
Try Start->Settings->Connections->Bluetooth to get to the same screen as you would get to by clicking the BT icon.
THanks for the reply. Which BT GPS do you use? and with what Navigation program?
Holux GR-231 and TomTom3.
I am having problem with Bluetooth GPS as well. I have 2, one is iTrek Bluetooth GPS and one is ArcoreTech Bluetooth GPS.
Since I have tried both GPS units, I am pretty sure it's i-Mate JAM's Bluetooth problem.
Instead of upgrading my ROM to 1.06.00 WWE, I should have tried it out with version 1.03 first. I upgraded from 1.03 to 1.06 as soon as my JAM finished charging. BIG MISTAKE!
I ended up usiing "Pocket Bluetooth Tool" to designate COM8 (for example) for my GPS. However, if I happen to soft reset or turn of Bluetooth, I would have to pair it again.
I read many article's on the internet and the problem seems to point to the MS Bluetooth stack (instead of Widcomm used in my i-Mate PDA2K - and by the way PDA2K works perfectly with my GPS units).
Hopefuly i-Mate will address this problem during the next ROM update.
So how come Loboman's holux works ok?
Loboman are you using a different BT stack?
I would like to guess that he uses ROM version 1.03...

I use 1.06.00. All i do is that I tap on the BT icon, choose 'Devices', tap 'New...' and waits until the phone finds the GPS. Then I add it and pair it with the passkey. Then I had to scan all serial ports using a program that Holux supplies (I bet it works with any BT reciever though) to find out that my port was COM5 and finally I set my programs to use COM5. As I previously stated, I do have to re-pair them sometimes for some reason, but I can live with that.
I previously had an Acore unit which worked ok with my iPAQ 5450 (also MS BT stack) in WM2003. It took me all the way from northern Sweden to Barcelona in Spain last summer
I have not used Pocket Bluetooth Tool, but I have read about it. I think that it works without it so far. I also leave my BT on 24/7 since I don't think that it uses too much battery.
I hope things work out for you.
Absolutley no problems with Rom 1.01.01 Ger and Navilock BT-308 GPS-Mouse
I am not sure if the following has anything to do with Bluetooth but at least it cured my Bluetooth vs. GPS problem, for now.
On Club i-Mate's ROM update page, I found out that if the radio version is 1.10, then I am NOT suppose to apply the camera patch. After I uninstalled it, my JAM seems to work better with Bluetooth GPS units. My biggest problems were:
1. Once I soft reset my JAM, I have to re-pair my GPS units.
2. PrymeNav software took a long time to scan for GPS - and crashes sometimes when I designate already-scanned port.
3. Unable to hold two paired GPS units in Bluetooth Device List (though only used on at a time).
I have played with it after I uninstalled the camera patch and to this morning my GPS units still function well. Another key is to turn on the GPS unit and make sure it is linked (as indicated by its LED) - then turn on the GPS software. That way the hardwares are ensured to be linked.
As a side bonus, now I can perform Bluetooth Activesync on my Mac (via PocketMac software). However, I still require Pocket Bluetooth Tool installed on my JAM.
Weird!
I can't get TTN5 to pick up my BT GPS. I think the problem is that I can only seem to be able to assign COM0, COM8 or COM4 in the BT settings dialogue.
TTN5 need 6 or 7 IIRC.
Even though the BT COM ports dialogue allows me to select any COM from 0 to 9. It complains about not being able to create the port if I select anything other than 0, 8 or 4.
Any ideas?
I am having the same issue connecting with my GPS and Destinator 3 s/w.
Try pairing the GPS with your device before loading tomtom, and assign COM0. That's what I did and tomtom picked up the device immediately without problems.
Having said that my GPS is a tomtom.
Can't install TT5... any suggestion?
I get an error and than installation quits...
you have to connect through COM5. At least it works for me.
Strange enough, now Tomtom doesn't show this port anymore, so they day they unpair, I'm screwed.
I have the same problem. I can only select com 0, 4 or 8 and none of these ports show up in TT5. I am unable to make it work. I even tried ti activate the GPS control panel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=154825#154825) but it seems this control panel does actually not work (probably why it was hidden in the first place).
Any suggestions to make TT5 work are very welcome.
Some how (no idea how), TT5 was working with the GPS. Yeterday I had to hard reset due to several reasons, I now, again, I cannot manage to connect the damn bluetooth GPS.
Same reason as always: NO COM5 in TT5.
Damn!
Guys now I am really stuck! I have been messing about with the registry, this is what i have found; COM6 friendly name is RIL (radio something or another I think basically the phone etc…) I have changed that to another port (HKLM\Drivers\BuilIn\Serial….) changing the index to another port i.e. a free one like 0/4/8 upon reboot allows me to map port 6 to BT gps under MSBT stack; however the phone (radio) stops functioning although BT serial port has been assigned to 6 TT5 still does not start the connection! Looking through the reg under HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\serial_BTUR this is the default BT serial port; this is set to port 7 (Index) if you change that port to something other than 7 reboot BT stops working. I have loaded the old TT3.7 GPS driver/software (Not complete TT3 just the gps update) and I can connect and communicate with the BT GPS. The BT GPS is seen as BT GPS. I can leave it connected however as soon as I fire up TT5 still no GPS communication. Tried to get TT5 working for over a week and have still failed. I think we need to find how TT5 detects available ports and edit/hack that area. There is on thing I have noticed though; if I select TomTom GPS there appears to be some BT communication although no thing on the GPS screen the BT light on my GPS unit (Fortuna) flickers periodically. Seriously stuck any help greatly appreciated as I am currently running out of ideas…..

I've completely given up. I've spent most of the day hacking the registry to COM5, with multiple combinations on the GPS control panel, etc... with no success.
I've hard reseted the device and I won't install TT5 until someone figures out how to connect it to a Bluetooth GPS.
I can't believe such a new device hasn't sorted out a simple connection to a Bluetooth GPS.
Well... not yet.
I've been able to set up TT5 working with my old Bluetooth GPS, but it doesn't work with my new Syson Blue Sirf III. Have no idea why, maybe someone can lighten me up.
Anyway, this is what I've done for non SIRF III and it works for me.
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the OUTGOING port to 8.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM 8 (before we set it up at 0).
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to 0.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.
Hope it works for everybody.
Now, how to make it work in SIRF III - no idea. I've made the same process with the Sirf III GPS and it doesn't connect.
Success!!!!
You sir, are a genius.
I salute you.
I've got a Fortuna Clip on and it sucks
They had to screw us again with the BT stack. Morons. It is abslutely impossible to set this baby up with TT5. I got TT5 to work on the Magician, and the XDA 2, but this, abosulutely beats me. It seems Tomtom barely let's me choose any ports...lost

Thanks andreuroig your a top mman Just got it working on Fortuna Clipon BT GPS; Can I pick your brains about maybe trying to install the WIDCOM BT stack on the universal; have tried manually hacking away at this; but have given up now....

I agree Have tried andreuroig way, I can´t get a com0 in tomtom ,
Please help.
:?
MIracle, got it to work. Clip on + tt 5.1
This how I did it:
1.) IN BT settings, (After having paired and chosen 'Serial', went to COM ports and selected 0
2.) Then, from inside tt5, went to gps...picked the 'other BT', it ehn showed IR ports, serial cable etc, Port 7 (no use, couldn't do much) and THEN Com port 0. Clicked that and it worked.
Done

slight subject change, but.... JasJar, Tomtom 5.1.......slight twist
possible to have the 100mb GB map stored on the phone, so to use a SD GPS Card?, Due to the new memory layout of the phone this could be an issue.
I have that and TTN3 was ok with the 32mb map in, but since 5.1 you cant have smaller than GB 105mb, so im stuck on TTN3 for SD GPS unit and TTN5 for the, err not yet purchased BT GPS unit,
Some sort of map cutter would be nice,
Ive ordered my Jasjar but waiting for the post,
What i really what to know is, do i put the SD GPS unit on ebay now and recoupe some losses having to get a bluetooth unit or not ????

Jasjar, BT GPS and TT V5.1
Some people here state that they installed TT V5.1. Actually V5.1 is an upgrade that can be downloaded from the TT support site. It requires V5 as a basis. BUT the V5.1 only comes in EXE format (no CAB fiile) so I wonder how you guys were able to get 5.1 installed as the setup program crashes as soon as it connects to Activesync 4.0 or 4.1.
?
you have to copy the 5.0 cab files across, then run them and it installs that way,
then just the 5.1 ugrade to copy across
faisal.husain: no idea about how to install de Widcom BT. That is out of my league.
JoseF:
Start from zero. Erase your bond with your GPS. Start TT5 and select any port that you have free (COM7 or even Serial on COM1).
Pair your GPS and follow the steps I've mentioned. It should work, but only, if it's not a non SIRF III gps.
Hi All
I have the above setup and am having a nightmare trying to get the bluetooth GPS to work. I have tried every setting I can find and even upgraded the ROM to 1.90.96 to see if that helped but still no joy. Basically whichever COM port I assign 0,4,5 or 8 (the only options allowed) it shows up in the "Other Bluetooth GPS receiver" catergory in TT6 but it will not connect. I have also noticed that the only time the BT LED on the Holox device flashes is during the initial pairing with the jasjar, before the device default password "0000" is added. Once this function has been completed tthe light remains solid and tt6 does not recieve the gps signal.
I know the Holox unit and the TT6 is working fine as I have tried it on an old HP 1940 with wm2003 and it works perfectly.
Has anyone got any ideas, suggestions or experienced the same problems
When you set up the Pairing with the GPS receiver use COM0 and select the serial port. Once this is done, set up a new outgoing COM port and make sure that the "Enable secure connection" box IS NOT checked. My Exec never works with any BT GPS receivers if this box is checked.
Then in Tomtom set use other BT GPS receiver and select COM0.
Pug.
Hi Pug
No joy I'm afraid. Have tried this more times than i care to mention but TT^ will not recognise the gps device.
Sounds like a problem with your BT stack then. If it worked on your other device then it's obviously a problem with the Uni. Seen as this isn't a common problem, might be some problem with your setup. Thinking about it now, Tomtom overwrites some BT files during install, as you seem to be using an AKU3.2 ROM which will have updated BT stack, try deleting these from the windows folder.
ttn6bt2003.dll
BtCoreIf.dll
BtSdkCE30.dll
If it doesn't work, you can always re-install TT6

Still No joy with Jasjar, Holox BT-321 GPS & Tomtom 6
Hi All
I've tried all fixes for the above problem suggested by pug and mavrik64 earlier on this thread but without success. This is a little frustrating to say the least. The Jasjar has had clean install with nothing loaded other than the default programs included with the latest ROM build 1.90.96 from Jwrightmcps, the UK 'O2' setup and TomTom 6. As I know the software and Holox unit work fine on my old HP1940 running on wm2003, I'm convinced it is something in WM5 that is giving me the problem. I have read other forums were other people appear to have similar problems.
Please note; the main reason I flashed the ROM from that previously installed 1.30.76 was to try and find a fix for this problem. The older version gave me exactly the same problem.
Anyone got any ideas
I am using Ivans Beta 15 and no problems, try flashing with that.
You have a new PM in a few moments as well.

Any idea where I can get hold of a copy of Ian's Beta 15 ROM. I've trawled round this site but can't seem to locate it
