Apologies if anyone has posted about this already. My XDA IIi has developed an interesting characteristic; it skips a second every now and then, resulting in it gaining about 2 seconds every 10! Does anyone know what is causing this?? is it a virus or buggy software??
regards
Chris Norman
The only way to check that is to run the phone without any additional software, if it still displays these problems then its a hardware issue.
Hi Cruncheeee,
Did you fix this problem? I've just got exactly the same thing. Everything is fine apart from the clock gaining rapidly. As you say every few seconds it jumps 2 seconds.
Cheers,
Mark

Has anyone hard reset to rectify this problem ?
I don't know how to fix the problem as such, but i noticed my XdaIIi slipped out of time every so often, so i got a free little program called SP TimeSync 2.2 that updates my time from one of the atomic clocks.
If your sat watching the clock, in the settings thing, sometimes the clock hangs, then skips to the time, making it appear that it has skipped time, where as it actually just stopped updating the screen for a second or two!
XDA Clock gaining
Hi, I never fixed it as such - just hard reset the device which stopped it. However, afterwards I wondered if it could have been caused by PocketZenPhone (I remembered I'd changed some PZP settings just prior to the problem). May be worth un-installing PZP (assuming you use it).
Cheers.
Update:
I tried the work arounds (SP TimeSync etc) and I got quite good at finding websites with the time on but eventually I gave up.
I never found out what was causing the error, but a new ROM release from O2 gave the push I needed to do a hard reset, load a new ROM and rebuld my XDA IIi
It was first major update and I haven't mastered all the things to backup, I kept my contacts and appointments OK through ActiveSync but lost almost everything else so I'm now adding back the apps I'd grown used to deleting the O2 junk they supply but.....
the clock is now telling the right time again!

Can anyone else confirm if you have similar problem? After the upgrade, everytime the phone rings, I can't answer the call right away, there's a 5-6 secs pause between when the phone first ring till I can accept the call, during the pause, the screen is hanged like it's trying to wake up from standby... The phone would keep ringing and it's very annoying to just staring at the phone with people watching.. I'm not sure if this is a software conflict but I tried to disable all the softwares but still the same.
And then the battery seems to drain MUCH faster, it drops 30% already in just 6 hours!!! Only had like 10 or so short phone calls, checked email once!!
Last thing is, anyone able to get Journal Bar 4.3.4 running? It went fine before the ROM upgrade, but now it hangs the machine when I sync it with my PC and can't even bring it back with softreset... I had to hardreset 3 times already before of Journal Bar
Am I the only one having these problems????
I too just upgrade but am not facing any of the problems u mentioned. Everything appears to be smooth and much better than the DOPOD ROM
Just running the upgrade now. I'll let you know how I get on with JB.
Edit: Have run the upgrade now an installed JB and all nice and smooth. No problems. Weather is fine, newsfeeds are working, auto scroll is working, expansion pack is detected.... but once it connects and tries to update....the whole things freezes - locks up solid. And a hard reset is the only way of stopping.
Same here, I have not encountered the said problem. As a matter of fact, I don't see any difference either in speed nor performance in corporate mode. Yes, less stuff to go into and change, but come on... all we have to do is turn off the error reporting and beam function. But I do admit, the basic mode deffinitely is faster than the old ROM version. This is my personal experience.
Hmm... looks like only some have and some don't have this problems.. Darkblak, what version JB are you running? And man.. the pause from waking up is driving me crazy
My o2 Exec had been switched off for three hours, but screen open, and I got sombody to call from my landline. Upon the first ring in the calling (landline) handset's earpiece, the Exec screen illuminated and my ring-tone began playing. Clicked the on-screen Answer soft-key immediately (within first three notes of the tune) and the call was connected.
Tried again to check. Same result, connect during first ring.
However, I'm also concerned at the "apparently" faster battery drain. Currently running the battery down to check if the problem is still there after a full discharge/recharge cycle. The only difference in applications that I have installed now, compared with a few weeks ago, is the spb GPRS Monitor v.2.41 (this is *not* the o2 supplied version).

It's a coincidence with your ROM upgrade -- I've been using my Qtek9000's factory ROM for a few months, and yesterday (Dec 22) Journal Bar started acting up.
I wonder what they're sending through that Journal Bar feed that can freeze a device like that! Very Evil!!

If this is date related - how can you turn the update off. My JB freezes the whole phone as soon as it loads and a soft reset just repeats the process on me. I've hard reset and re-installed 3 times today with no luck.
For now I've hard reset and left JB until a solution can be found.

What I did was I soft-reset, and then before my wifi started up, I would race to disable wifi, or click on one of the buttons (they're in a group of 4) that prevents JB from updating from Wifi/GPRS. Solves the problem for now.
Hmm.. So I guess I should avoid JB for now.. And found out my pausing problem is actually from Worldmate 2006! Remove the today plugin and problem solved. No I have NO weather info at all...

O2 Exec Upgrade Problem
I have today updated my o2 Exec with the new ROM upgrade, all seemed ok until I carried out a soft reset - all my email accounts were lost!!
Tried hard reset, etc - still happening when I soft reset??
Any one have any ideas how I can resolve this problem?
What I find odd is that after the upgrade my handset works perfectly. It is a lot faster than previous, the battery doesn't drain any faster, my email accounts are intact after re-creating them after the ROM Flash.
Is my handset an anomaly ?
Read somewhere here that you should clear out the ROM (Clear Memory app) before you try a ROM upgrade. Also try Corp mode if you haven't yet.

ironically, i think it is battery.nfo which is causing the drain!
i've switched back to the SPB pocket plus battery indicator & my xda exec *appears* to be draining 'normally'.

I don't know what software you're running but if I setup a storage card indicator in SPB Plus I get a long (5-6 seconds) delay before I can do anything after switching on. This is even with the storage card indicator not on the visible tab - it must be gathering information. As soon as I remove that indicator then the machine responds as soon as I switch on.
Jon.
YAY! Thanks been trying to figure out what it was in Pocket+ that was causing that.
Taken the storage card details off and all is good!
Now if only they can sort out the 'stuttering' ringtone!
hm.. i had that problem too..
i think i should try to uninstall pocket + n see how it works...
thanks ape..
I had my Exec repaired and had the latest ROM installed (dated 30 Nov 05). I have not installed any third-party apps at all. Will monitor its behaviour over the next few days. So far, it has been stable and I am alerted to all calls even when using the PowerSave option. Speed a little slower now that I am not using GSPMagic+
So I'm a stickler for stability and it drives me nuts (we all have our weird problems ) when things don't run stably.
i.e. I take very good care of my Windows XP PC, it's been running for 12 weeks straight now without needing a reboot, power down, nothing. Rock solid. I love it.
I'm running the Cing 8125 with the new QTEK AKU2 ROM. It's been running pretty well but I'm having the same problem I had witht he original Cingular ROM.
For whatever strange reason and ONLY when I'm not using the 8125, it seems it will soft reset which makes it impossible to pinpoint the cause. I know it has soft-reset because
a) My memory is back at like 23MB free which is what I have after soft-reset.
b) None of my apps are running anymore - duh!
c) Best of all, I have a today plug-in that keeps track of uptime so I know EXACTLY when the soft-reset happened.
I can't understand what would trigger it, when I'm actually using it, the device is fast and solid. I'm not running any crazy apps that I would think could lead to this unstability.
How long have you gone without a soft-reset? What's bizzare is the most recent soft reset happened this morning at exactly 1:00AM!!!! What are the odds of a random reset happening exactly at 1AM? No, I don't have any notifications, alarms or anything around that time.
Here's the uptime meter I'm using if you want to try it out:
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/uptimemeter.shtml
I wish it would soft-reset when I was using it so I could at least know what was causing it.
The same is happening to me, although it soft resets once every 2 weeks or so. I must say I turn off the device every night, but it has happened to me 3 o 4 times since I installed de Qtek AKU2 ROM.
Any solution?
I mentioned this once before on here. I catch mine doing it at night sometimes (in the day its usually in my pocket so I don't know if it does it there).
I've only seen it a few times, maybe once every 2 weeks.
The odd thing is, that when restarting after it's random soft reset, it doesn't require me to enter my pin code. It's almost as if it knows that it's been naughty and was hoping I wouldn't notice
Maybe it's a "feature" of WM5??
Guys
I am facing a really weird problem which is becoming increasingly frustrating and driving me nuts.
I usually charge my phone overnite using the stock charger. The phone powers off after a while as per the the settings (15 mins I think) and stays like that throughout the night. But in the morning it fails to wake up totally. Nothin works. So, I am forced to soft reset it everytime this happens. This has happened quite a few times now.
Any ideas why this might be happening? This is killing me because the alarms dont sound and the phone is totally dead in the morning.
ps. I am using the stock HTC ROM (1.18, 07/22), on Cingular UMTS.
Thanks in advance.
JoKer
Dude, I'm getting the EXACT same thing!!!! I'm using using the stock TyTN ROM! I have no idea what's causing it, or even how to fix it. I thought it had something to do with software, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I need help too!!!!
) .. that's crazy .. maybe this is the next SA ... jk ..
but seriously ... maybe there are more folks with this prob ... let's see if anyone knows any more details about this or how to fix it ..
And the really strangest thing is that this doesnt happen to me in the day .. it powers off and wakes up fine .. but then it's never powered off for that long ..
Mine seems to happen when it's powered off for a given amount of time. It's insanely annoying because I have to reboot, and I hate rebooting the phone.
I've experienced a lot less of this behavior since moving to the 1.20 radio ROM...
I'm at the 1.20 radio, and I'm still having the problem.
I too am having exactly this problem. I have flashed the Cingular 1.34 ROM but it seems that the ROM doesn't matter. (I notice the bluetooth and or wifi lights are still on, the screen just doesnt come back to life).
Hi, you probably already tested this, but your device goes into standby mode with WiFi on it will become locked and unable to power on.
But it has happenned to me this sympton without WiFi connected.
Cheers
check out this search...there are a few topics on this already

Well I used to think there was some truth to the freezing being related to certain apps... and I suspected on mine it was PhoneAlarm causing problems.
Last week I hard reset and re-installed everything except PhoneAlarm but am having freezing if my TyTN is not used for some time (does not have to charge to freeze!)... And yes, I do kill ActiveSync and WiFi when I know I will not be using my phone for a while. My conclusion is that there's more to this and that maybe a newer ROM from HTC will address this - anyone know what the status is on this??
BTW, anybody else having alarms going off constantly on re-boot or MS VC reading out ca. 2 weeks of appointments on soft re-boot?
I still don't think there is a definitive answer on this. I've heard quite a few things to fix it; but I don't really have any of the software that's mentioned. Someone said it was because I had Opera installed (so I uninstalled it), then someone said it was because of the ActiveSync Advanced Network Connection option (I unchecked that), last someone said it was because of SBSH PocketWeather, and to take that off the today screen. Well I'd rather not do the latter, so I'll test these two and see how it goes.
I think it's the today plug-in issue. I hard reset and left off PW and it didn't lock-up for 2 days. But like you, I like it a lot.
So I'll deal with resetting it.
For me, it's just Pocket Plus, Resco File Explorer and WA Lite on the Today screen along with the standard stuff .. really nothin that needs to connect to the connect to the internet .. and still ..
The one that caused the TyTn not to wakeup was Wisbar Advance. Since removing it, I've not had any issues with the pda not waking up from power off.
Ok, what are you using in its place?
Well after uninstalling Opera, and unchecking the check box; I had the problem again! ( So annoying (.
Well i'll post my problem too
I have missed class twice in a week because the phone alarm never rang in the morning. The phone was frozen and i had to reset it in both cases. I always leave it charginf over night and now i'm afraid to turn it off anymore for fear of never waking me up in the morning
Adi
guys,
I am suspecting the issue is related to the today's plugin. After a few days of experiments, I believe the battery level reading utilities such as SPB pockets plus or Resco today plugin might be the one we are looking for.
Not only uncheck it, but also un-install it, hopefully, would help to solve the problem.
Mark
I have no today's plugin, just the standard stuff, en i do have the same problem
Give the Fake Server Trick a try, which worked for similar symptoms on the old Axim x51v: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=112638
If your problems are caused by the same thing, then this is to do with Activesync launching itself automatically. This in turn causes windows mobile 5 to stop waking up from standby, requiring a soft reset. No idea why.
I did the FST straight away when I received my TyTN and I don't get any of the problems you describe at all. It's worth a go!
I understand that this forum is filled with developers. So I am hoping for some informed help. If you have any of these same problems please respond as well. I would like to know if these are isolated to my setup
I migrated from a cel phone and a PPC running WM2003/2003se. Mainly for the converged device, but also for the persistent storage. I run a small business, and and am very busy and rely on my phone and schedule all day everyday.
I have only had the wizard (MDA) for about 3 weeks and experienced odd problems since the first weekhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
. Unfortunately I did not buy new, so I am not sure if any of these are covered by warranty or not... I am just going to list the problems:
1) If I leave my phone plugged in at night to charge than by the time I wake up the phone will not come out of standby. I have to press the soft reset button to get the unit to work again. This happens intermittently
2) I use an alarm program so that the unit acts like an alarm clock. If the phone is plugged in at night, and does not experience problem number 1, than the alarm just won't go off. I turn on the phone and the alarm program is open, but it did nothing. If the phone is not plugged in than the alarm works fine.
3) Soft buttons. I have the registry set to remap what the soft buttons do. I use Agenda Fusion (Latest Version) so i have them set to open the calendar and the contacts to Agenda Fusions view of them. This works most of the time. On occasion the soft buttons just stop working except for running through the menus for reminders.....
4)The other day i went to take a photo, the camera said that it could not proceed because there was not enough memory. At the time I had 30 megs of storage free, about 12 megs of program free and about 900 meg left on my sd card...
5) Every so often the unit won't launch a program, it says that the exe is unsigned or not trusted. It works every other time though.
6) I use cLaunch. Every so often cLaunch disappears from the today screen. The only wat to get it to reappear is to remove it from the today screen from the today items menu, wait a couple of seconds and then return it to the today screen.
7) Every so often the unit stops recognizing the sd card..have to remove and re-insert
8) I use reminders for all my calender and to do items. Occasionally the reminder will go off for a certain item 24 hours in advance, even though the setting is correct in the item...
I feel like I am missing a few problems. But you get might point, WM5 is weird. All of the above can be corrected with a soft reset. But sometimes the problems show up multiple times a day. Causing me to have to soft reset in the most inconvenient times, several times a day.http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/mad.gif
I did not have these problems under WM2003. I have a friend who uses a Verzion phone that is similar to the wizard (made by a different company though, not HTC...it has an external antennae and that is where the stylus is stored as well) She and I were comparing phones today. Hers runs WM5 but she said that she has never experienced any of these problems in the 1 year that she has owned hers...
Is this an HTC Wizard problem? A WM5 problem with the wizards? Would it help if i installed on of the alternate roms that I read about here on XDA developers? I am considering a hard reset and starting from scratch but I don't want to go that route unless it is the only way. And if I do, I may just use one of those roms.....What does everybody think?http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/confused.gif
Sorry for the long winded post....
Seems like a software problem based on (1) and (2). Is the ROM an official ROM?
Re:
Hello Hanmin Thanks for responding,
Re Number 1. I just saw that some one else posted with that problem. So I will see if they have they same alarm program installed. I have wondered if everything is software related. Thats why I am hoping to see if others are having these types of problems, and if so, what programs they are using...
Re the rom...yes it the official T-mobile release, version listed in my sig.
Thanks again
New problem
I have just encountered a new problem:
While picking up my voice mail the system would not register my button pushes. Weather on screen or the hardware buttons. I could not interact with voice mail, nor could I end the call with the hardware button or the soft button....I had to reset the phone to end the call!!
How frustrating is that
Have you tried reflashing the original ROM? Being a used phone that would be the first thing I would do. It's going to wipe out all your data and return it to an "out of box" state, so i suggest backing up anything important and sync to your PC. If that doesn't work then you have a hardware issue but I'm willing to bet that should take care of it. You can find the original ROM on HTP's website. Good Luck
Thank you
Thanks for that suggestion....I am hoping to not go down that road, if I can help it. But I will do it if there are no other options. So If I may ask: How many votes does re flashing old Rom Get? And are there any other ideas?
Again Thanks. I am going to download the rom in case it does come to that....
wait...the phone dosen't wake up unless you push the small button on the top of the phone? That is not the default setting on the MDA, however it's acting naturally. Our phones go on a standby to save power. Click the battery icon in the lower right hand corner-->Click the Advanced tab--> uncheck Turn off device on external power
Misunderstanding....
When the phone is plugged in over night and reaches %100 charge some times it won't "Wake Up" even hitting the power button on top. The only thing that will turn it on is the "Soft Reset" button on the right side, beneath the IR sensor.

It sounds like you have software problems - possible a corrupt notification queue - personally i would do a hard reset of the device - probably in the process of this i would soft reset before the t-mobile extras install - taking details of gprs, mms settings before this.
I would run the phone without installing software to see that its not a hardware problem. Then reinstall programs one by one and see how it goes. Some software like claunch is not made for wm5 so expect some glitches (i use claunch and get occ glitch)
If you dont want to hard reset check the notification queue for duplicates and rogue scripts using check notifications - attached - install via pc. Dont delete notifications important for system running - common duplicates are clock\calendar.
alarm problems
Hi,
frankly i had similar issues - less critical but annoying: alarm clock not waking me up, slow system, notification queue mess, difficult resets, camera issues, bluetooth a2dp skipping. I upgraded my Qtek multiple times, and finally i can say that 2.26 roms (i use molski's) are exceptionally stable and reliable. The problem is not Wm5, the problem is how buggy many released versions are. So, my suggestion: look to the forum, find roms that appear to have a reliable history, cross your fingers and...upgrade. Then, resist in upgrading to any rom that just came out and appear to be faster, cooler, nicer. Unless you have an issue to be solved, and you see 100 messages confirming that the rom is stable and does the job...
Thank you meschle and pzucchel for the thorough answers. I am going to try the notification queue first.
@ Meschle: where do I find the gprs, & mms settings? And should I just copy them down by hand? Then after re-starting w/out tmobile crap, do I just put these settings in the same place as where I found them?
@ Pzucchel: Do you believe that Molski's 2.26 is more stable than the Tmobile factory installed 2.26?
Thanks again

Can somebody with the know how make a little program which litterally only performs one task: kills the process services.exe.
The reason for this is it is the cause of many soft resets in a day. Sometimes not even fixing the slowdown anyway and causing the famous black screen of death.
But as soon as i go to sktools and use the processes tool and kill the process phone goes back to being how it should! However because the phone goes into major slowdown it takes ages for the sktools processes program to load and then hard to select services from the list because of the lagging etc so it would be nice just to have a link that i could put on my quick links and when phone goes to melt down just press this magic button which saves the phone being hurled at a wall!
It needs to be called Meltdown Override or something!
This is a serious request as it would make HD2 use a much more pleasant experience!
Many thanks
This is pretty easy to do AFAIK...
If nobody else does it, I can do it when I have some more free time ...
I would appreciate this so much!
I think I may even use AEB to assign it to a long press of the back key or something
But, does services.exe auto-starts again? Because you could have some problems if you kill it and don't start it again...
Yer it does straight away but not running at 90% + CPU.
I find it unlikely that services.exe is really the culprit here, but rather a service installed on your phone that is misbehaving. If you find out which service is causing the problem, and then uninstall or disable it....

This guy is right...
Ive only just installed a new ROM voda UK 1.72 so I have next to no programs installed at the moment so I don't see what could cause it.
The main time this happens is when left charging over night and when you go to use it in the morning it's completely screwed. Soft reset doesnt fix it it just goes to black screen of death so then u have to take the battery cover off and reset again. The only thing i have found to get it to a useable state again is to kill process services.exe, and then its fine again. Once by doing that it stopped weather update and text messaging from working but atleast when i then did a soft reset things where still fine and those two things worked again and no laggy phone.
I kno it seems stupid to just kill a process and not find the problem but i cant see what the problem could be considering how recently i hard reset the phone (which i did 3 times in total to see if it got rid of the problem).
Just forget that ROM and go back to a working one? Seems easy to me... don't always need to have the latest or highest version number, just something that works... If 1.72 doesn't work for you, don't use it!
I would if it wasn't for the fact that after doing the annoying procedure in the morning of killing process "services.exe" then soft reseting, it runs the quickest i have ever been able to use the device on any ROM before it
You know that services.exe is one of the main parts of your phone-funcionality (calls, sms, etc.)?
As you said you experience it in most cases in the morning... Have u got GAlarm installed?
If yes --> Did you check the RegKey MidnightWakeup=True and change it to false?
My Girlfriends TD2 had the same issue. CPU usage by services.exe was often around 70-90% until i applied this change...
Services.exe is just like svchost on a windows-machine, it just hosts a bunch of services. So most likely its a service that has gone crazy.
