I managed to do this quite easily with my PDA2K, but I'm having a heck of a time getting connected to my WiFi LAN. Has anyone managed to do this yet? Not GPRS, but WiFi.
Thanks!

Turn up the power level to max performance
I had trouble connecting to my home wifi (well it would appear to connect, but pocket IE wouldn't "locate" any pages). I ran ethereal on my home linux gateway and saw that it was getting its DHCP address properly and performing DNS lookups and even getting the responses. I wish there was ethereal for the Pocket PC, because what eventually made it work was that I turned up the power to maximum performance (instead of in between that and maximum battery). I guess the power level was just a tad too low such that the DNS queries weren't making it back to the 9100/Wizard device. Everything has worked like a charm since including Skype and a voip phone I use to connect by my home PBX called SJPhone.
Turns out I can't connect with either device now. I can get on with my laptop without a problem.
The manual sucks on this topic, but what's the best way to connect to a network?

Just bringing this back to the top. Still no connection at work, home or Starbucks.

is the Wizard any better than the BA?
Sorry tnw I can't help - I am wondering whether I should ditch my BA and go for the Wizard... do you think the Wizard is an improvement over the BA, or is it a downgrade?
I really liked my BA when I bought it. I had a the crappy HP from Tmobile which gave me nothing but problems, so getting the BA was great. I still like it. I saw the Universal in person and while it looked cool, I was getting tired of having a big pda/phone so I really didn't want to buy it. Its bigger and heavier than my BA, so that pretty much turned me off.
I read about the K-Jam on The Register and 48 hours after that had one in my hand. I really, really like it. I was looking for a smaller device than the PDA2K and having seen the i-Jam before, I thought this should work perfectly....and it does. I'm really glad I didn't go with the Universal. But, to each his own. The keyboard on the K-Jam is great also, screen is good, speaker is loud, speakerphone is perfect, camera is good....I really have no downsides to it....except I can't get on my frigg'in wifi.
If you don't mind the size, go for the universal. If you're tired of the size and weight of the BA, go with the Wizard. Overall, I feel the Wizard is a huge improvement over the BA. Phone and BT work perfectly! If you buy it from Expansys, you have 14 days to play with it. 14-day return policy.

I am getting the same, will not locate any page, though wifi settings show signal strength. Changing to settings suggested did not work for me, anyone else had this and resolved? Other than that loving the MDA Vario (Kjam)

finally got working. not too sure what I did but a couple of soft resets and undoing setting a specified IP address. now typing this on the couch using wireless network. Kjam now staying Ijam (MDA compact) likely to be on ebay soon.

What did you change? I've been playing with this all day long. I'm writting this on my laptop over the wifi I should be able to connect to using my kjam. I spent a couple hours at Starbucks today as well.
Any hints would be great! I can get on GPRS without a problem, if that makes a difference.

My T-Mobile (UK) MDA Vario will not connect to my home 802.11g network. If I switch to mixed 802.11b/g mode the Vario connects and everything is well. The Vario can see the "g" network and knows which encryption is in use but it will not connect. I've read that Australian versions will connect to "g" networks, as will K-Jams and 9100s.
T-Mobile (UK) told me that they have chosen to disable "g" access. I am stunned. I've been trying to find a way to re-enable "g" access but so far no luck. I have hard reset and loaded no external ROM files whatsoever but that didn't fix it. I'm now trawling through the registry to try to find something but I don't actually have a clue what to look for or where.
If anyone has a solution to enabling "g" access on the UK MDA Vario please post. It is the only disappointment I have with the machine.
My KJam was able to connect to g network but on 11M, and regularly dropped the connection and connected, and in an hour of use it halted on WiFi (the pda works, but you get hourglass and nothing more if you enter wifi settings, or try to turn wifi off). I restricted the access point to 802.11b.
i can connect to my AP with no problems if it unsecured. if i turn on encryption it does not get an ip. if i enable mac filtering it works, but removes the mac from the AP when i disconnect.
afaik some APs have problems communicating with mobile devices.

thanks!!!!!! i have been busting my nut with this!!!!
I am having the same problem like this. .. but how did u guys fix it?
Hi all,
I have a big problem with my Prophet and its WIFI, I didn't manage to connect to anything.
First, I had the Orange French rom.
When i tried to connect to my hotspot with WPA protection, although the prophet could see the hotspot, try to connect to it, connection seemed to stay blocked... status was "connected to network" but no IP given (DHCP is activated on my hotpot).
Then I read that WPA wasn't well supported by WM5 so i put a WEP encryption on my hotspot. This time the prophet connect and an IP address appeared in wifi sttings, but connection reseted all the time... connected, not connected, connected again, not connected...
impossible to stabilise the connection.
I tried on another hotspot without encryption, and same thing, connection reseting again and again...
Now I've just tried with the last dopod rom which I've found right here, but no change, the wifi connection is impossible.
I'm kinda lost, dunno what's going wrong with something that should work without any problems...
Does someone ever seen something like this?
Could it be a material failure?
Thanks a lot for your help!!!
Cedrick
It was a hardware disfunction, replaced today with another prophet which works fine
New Prophet Revision out ?
Hello,
I Just got my XDA Neo (o2Germany) 2 days ago and because i´ve read about the Dopod Rom beeing faster, i upgraded immediatly.
The Problem now is the bad Wireless performance, i never get a good connection - Still if i am right next to the Router/Accesspoint...
Did i understand you right that this is a Hardware failure ?
Can I correct this with a different Rom ?
The Problem is that i cannot give it back to o2 now, because of the Dopod Rom - Maybe i have to try the Downgrade Method presented yesterday...
Can you give some more information about Wlan performance ??
THX !!
Hi,
First of all, did you try the wireless connection with your first original rom?
And what do you mean by "never get a good connection", could you explain that point? does the prophet connect and disconnect?
You must know that wifi performance are kinda poor on this device from what I heard and what I saw... you'll never get something like your laptop for example.
But I'll do some test at home and see how it's going now that I can really connect (I never could before, so I never really tried :wink
Anyway, in my case it was clearly hardware as I have the problem on my Orange rom, then I had the same problem with the Dopod one.
Now I just received a new prophet, and it worked fine on the first try with the Orange rom...
I'd like to try with the Dopod again but until they find a way to downgrade, i won't take the irsk... or maybe yes, i dunno
First of all: Thank you for answering so quick !!!
Yes i can connect, and i can also Use Opera, Internet Explorer and so on...
But i think it is really slow, i never got the connection far away from "poor" ...
Even the original o2 Xda neo rom was not better...
I will have to try some different Roms when downgrading will be made possible i think.
you said your o2 rom wasn't better? is that right?
it is slow for me too (right now i'm on my prophet over wifi)... but i don't think the rom would make a big difference, i mean, the dopod us supposed to be the fastest...
I think the device itself have a poor wifi...
could you confirm that your o2 rom was as poor as the dopod or did i get it wrong?
maybe you could also test your connection speed too.
If you tell me how i can test the Connection, i can do for sure !
I did not "really" test the o2-rom, i started the XDA and after Windows was ready, i saw it is quite slow in the menue - wireless was detected and i connected but signal quality was exactly the same bad thing i have now.
Edit: TXRATE is "Auto", after 2 Minutes or so it drops to 2Mbps
408 Kb/s is what I get when I run a basic speed test.
that ain't bad... and I t ink pocket IE is quite slow too...
We are not on a PC after all, the proc speed also affect the connection speed.
I think that it's already nice to have wifi on a little device like this
I`ll do a DSL-Speedtest, i think this is what you did, too ?
EDIT:
Downloading is very fast can you give me a clue wehre i can exactly see the speed?
exactly
Mhm, after a new Hardreset a interruped the *.cab file installs with the first reboot - The System is much faster now. The Wireless Quality is not better but i can Download and Phone via Skype without any Problems and interruptions.I Think my System had an overload, now it is fast and it works.
I will test the wireless range tomorrow...
I have not tried it yet, but I sure hope it works!
Mine just cycling from 'connecting' to 'available'. I even flashed back to wm5 from wm6. Same thing. Tried two routers (both 'g' routers though).
Here it is:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/...11g-support-in-htc-universal-pocket-pc-phone/
And the text incase it vanishes.
Enable Wireless G (802.11g) Support in HTC Universal Pocket PC Phone
HTC Universal also kwown as Qtek 9000, T-Mobile MDA Pro, Orange SPV M5000, O2 Xda Exec, i-mate JASJAR, Dopod 900, Vodafone v1640, Vodafone VPA IV, E-Plus PDA IV, Grundig GR980 and etc as it’s be re-branded and marketed by different vendors and network operators. One major disappointment and weakness of HTC Universal is it’s only support 802.11b-compatible technology, and thus unable to connec to WiFi G (802.11g) network.
It’s possible to make the HTC Universal based Pocket PC phone to compatible and able to connect to 802.11g-only access points by a registry tweak, but the speed would still be the same as 802.11b (11 Mbit/s).
The registry tweak is to change and add the following registry decimal values using a registry editing tool like the PHM Registry Editor at your HTC Universal based Pocket PC:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TIACXWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
After adding and editing above registry key, soft-reset the device.
This is very old.

Your right... and it doesnt work as well..
Wow. My old Dell axim 5 with a wifi cards connects to EVERYTHING... How come this can't?
I am really running out of idea's. I have searched this forum from top to bottom.
I have:
Re-flashed to wm5 (from the O2 site)
Tried every setting under the sun on TWO routers.
Tried with WEP, without it...
Hard reset, soft reset... ect .ect
I managed to CONNECT... I could ping and everything.. but I had to be less than one foot away from the antenna..
HOWEVER, it can pick up the SSID from as far away as the other side of the house (in the basement). This was about the limit of my Dell WIFI CF card too.
Some hope anyway...although it sounds hardwarish..
The book actually mentions an external antenna. Is that a typo? (look in the specs at the back)
I pulled my phone SIM card out and things seem a little more promising.... I tried many times with the phone connect icon in the connection manager turned off, but it's probably still keeping a connection somewhere....
Been through the whole gambit now. Searched this forum completely... tried different roms, tried registry hacks.... everything..
One thing people should be talking about on this forum: Ther e are quite a few people who flashed their pda's and ended up with this problem. Beware!
I guess I am now stuck looking for an SDCARD with some memory on it.
I upgraded my XDA EXEC to WM 6 by using CE Rom (2.02.00 WWE) to get luck for WiFi. I am not able to connect my university WiFi.
I am using Authentication - WPA, Data Encryption - TKIP, EAP Type - PEAP. XDA EXEC shows the WiFi available, but never get connected.
I observed many users of our university network, having windows mobile 5 / 6 based pocket pc, are able to use WiFi. But most of them have the IEEE 802.11b/g in their devices.
Please advise how we can get the settings done in XDA EXEC to get wifi.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi All,
Currently using a iMate pda2k (Blue Angel) with the first-released Helmi Windows Mobile 6 Professional ROM installed. I've really got two problems, but one that is annoying me more, and that is that I can't connect to my home wireless network because I have got WPA2-Personal security enabled. I found on another forum post that I need to update the AKU, but i'm pretty sure I did that when I first installed the ROM. My other problem is that I can't turn the GSM radio off (phone). But i'm more in need for a solution to the WPA2 problem. Should I upgrade to a newer ROM, because i'm thinking of updating to Windows Mobile 6.1 or is there another solution (please no 'go back to Windows Mobile 2003!).
Thanks in Advance,
Timbo.

The BA WLAN driver does not support WPA2, some users report that they ca connect to WPA2 protected networks but these cases are rare
You may try a combination of WPA/WPA2 with TKIP encription (not AES) if the router will let you. I just returned a new Belkin N router back just because my BA wont connect to the wifi, even with WPA/WPA2 mixed mode.
Hello,
If it helps you, I have a Zyxel HW660-D1 and using wpa/tkip I can connect with my BA, but only with xplode WM6.1 roms and helmi old rom (that with wifidriver v2), with other WM6.1 roms (Dvha79_ddt or Hoangdat_vista from PDAViet) I can't connect to my wireless.
Our beloved BA isn't compatible with WPA2 - AES encryption, I think it's because of wireless chipset limitation.
PDA2K WM6 Professional issues
I am badly in need of help guys out there !!! Please get off this hook !!!
I have exactly the same problem you are having, I have been trying to work on all these issues for about 4 days until now. I can not get connected to my home wireless lan neither do I can restore my phone contacts. I even tried to go for an upgrade to another WM which is 6.1 and 6.5, but with no use cause every time I try to upgrade my PDA2K device disconnects and nothing happens except for "error 101 connection" that keeps appearing everytime I try to upgrade.
Help me out guys pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
I am not sure how many times i have said this, BA + WPA2 = No GO, use WPA-PSK TKIP instead BA does not support WPA2, there are very rare situations that the access point can connect it in compatiblity mode like WPA, but it depends on the model ot the AP, Router, Modem or whatever device you use

I think you are mixing 3 problems here which should be addressed separately.
Posible Solutions:
#1:Read Xplodes post right after yours
#2:Clarify if you can or can not. "If Cannot" Restoring contacts saved on your phone requires the use of Active Sync. It also requires MS Outlook on your PC. You can sync via USB or Via Blue Tooth. Does your phone sync with your pc?
#3:Error 101 during flashing of new ROM = you have not connected your phone to the PC or its not in Serial Mode. You must follow step by step procedures on BlueAngel Wiki.
error 101 is present when the device is not in bootloader mode prior to upgrade, with wm2003 this was possible because thre was command to put the device in bootloader mode trough activesync, but in newer os it does not work
Hi all,
First of all, sorry if this question has already been answered before, but I couldn't find it anywhere on the forums using the search function.
I have a Qtek S200 with windows mobile 5 running on it. It works like a charm but I have problems connecting to most WiFi networks. Most routers use WPA2[AES], which my S200 does not support currently. Also, when I put my own router at home to use both WPA[TKIP] as well as WPA2[AES], then connect my S200 using WPA[TKIP] does not work (it hangs on 'Connecting...' forever).
So what I was wondering, is it at all possible to make my Qtek use WPA2 with AES? I know AES is usually done through hardware support, but surely this can be through software too right? Would upgrading to windows mobile 6 (using a rom) suffice?
Regards
