Magician changes it's shape into VPA Compact Mini - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

My community forum POCKETPT.NET has released several photos comparing this VPA Compact Mini with the Qtek S100(Magician).
To see the photos click on the word "aqui" next to the arrow on the second post i made and you will be taken to the gallery.
THe only diference is on the outside, all the features are the same, it's just a new face.

only MDA II screen problems, or also qtek2020, xdaII?

hi,
I've had a t-mobile MDAII for a while, but i was very disappointed in the screens performance, too high contrast and dark screen.
I also read on forums that the screen is not using all its capabilities with the colors.
So what i wanted to know, is if it's only the MDAII that has this screen, or all HTC devices?
because i want to buy now a O2 XDAII. Does it have a better screen?
thanks for your help!
I think there's no hardware difference in MDA2/XDA2/Qtek 2020, only different ROMs, softwares, and of course, branding
It looks fine to me [QTek2020] and I've experienced a lot of differet colour displayes...

Pictures of xda mini in black color... where?

Anybody have xda O2 mini in black color? Where i can find a pictures? Silver - it's simple... but black... ))

Here you Go! But it's in Orange's case, not original dopod / i-mate

get a black slicon skin for it maybe?
Just the other day i made a DIY on my unit by skinning the back side. It took me 30 min. I dismantled the whole unit following a document I found - I can't remember which forum, but I couldn't find a way to remove the screen from the front casing and I didn't want to damage anything. I would appreciate if anyone has some suggestions on separating the screen from case. I have attached a photo.

orange version of i-mate
in real life it looks more dark (the colour is dark green methalic)

Thanks, to all. But i need photo of indeed O2 mini!
As i know, in Germany should appear O2 mini in black (as xda III).

Reading books on tytn/hermes/vario II

Not a technical question, but I am thinking of moving from XDA IIi to Vario II (if it is ever released by t-Mob!) and am a little worried that the screen will be too small to read from comfortably.
Is anyone using their device for this and can you comment on whether you have found this an issue.
Many thanks
Of course, many people read books with TyTN. The screen's pretty good and I see no problem here. If you find the scrren a bit small for reading you can always adjust font size.
Hi,
I got a 2i and a Vario2 side by side with me right now.
Although the Vario2 has a smaller screen, its quality is better than the 2i one. (Quality in terms of viewing angle, contrast, sharpness, etc)
So I don't see a problem with reading books on the Vario2.
I'm a big ebook reader - 30 to 40 books per year. I've been using my ipaq hx4705 with 4 inch VGA screen and I'm spoiled. Since buying my TyTN I've been reading on it and it's ok, not terrific. The smallest font size is pretty fairly readable. You can use a bigger font, but you don't get much on the screen. I'll probably keep using my ipaq for serious reading and just keep filler on my tytn to read during odd downtimes.

MDA Vario II - Poor Design

I was gonna upgrade my Wizard to a Vario II until I saw the hatchet job that T-Mobile had done on it. Their designers really need to re-think that pink and ugly thing they do.....I so hate the look of it, I'm gonna move to Orange who have kept the HTC look and sell the device in black. Well done Orange..
K
Well....To me T-mobile version is best it's got best colour combination & it looks sexy Best hermes version
Yeh Pink....nice! ;-)

color blind?? Pink....???
Its more dark red (more purple then pink!!)
yea i personally liked it too.. colour combination is the best.. too bad only available in europe area.. I'll stick to my wizard for now..
Well mine is certainly not pink! I have just moved from Orange to T-mobile for one reason and one reason only....
DECENT DATA PACKAGES!!!!!
Orange are way too expensive now. With device like Vario II, surely a decent phone/data package is key.
Better in real life
I wasn't too taken with the look of the Vario II until I actually got one in my hands. The brushed gun-metal and red is under-stated and elegant. The photos don't do this device justice. But as soon as you get one in your hands, you'll see what I mean. And it has superb build quality (treated properly i.e. not like a mobile phone flung in your pocket or bag).

Athena Screen, what do you think?

How do you guys think about the Athena screen?
Compare to Universal if you had?
I didn't feel anything first when i use it, but after i hard-restart it once, i kind of have a feeling that the font is not very clear. specially compare to universal.
Maybe something goes wrong during the hard-reset? or is it true that you can tell the difference between Athena and Universal?
Dont really know how the universal looks but the screen of my Ameo looks verry good, it rocks. but then again can only compare it with my magician.

magician is QVGA, so you can't really compare that. What i am saying, the VGA in universal looks better then the VGA in Athena
I think mine looks lurvely

Hey wu. Sharper maybe, but not better...but I see what you mean. My wifes Universal has and still looks incredibly clear...suppose I just love that 5" screen and mine looks awesome to me.

i think it's due to our resolution are the same as Universal, but out screen is much bigger, so we start to see some edge in words.
The first time i notice is when i open up my start menu, the writing there isn't very clear, has some edges, which the Universal doesn't.
I own both Dopod 900 and U1000.
Will it related to the "ClearType" option? My U1000 default with Cleartype disabled so i have to modify the registry to enable it. Also same resolution with bigger screen means lower dpi and less sharp, but i think U1000's screen is very bright and the color is perfect.

but do you see some edges on the font? compare to Universal, unversal has no edges due to it's smaller screen size, but Athena screen size is big and therefore with the same resolution, you can see some edges on the font.
Clear Type is enable on both machine

My U1000(CHT) clear type fonts default is on font look very sharp. My ROM version is 1.24.708.3
oz VGA for sharpness in real VGA mode...maybe.

Yes..on closer inspection I see it now, but as you know when you use WA2 with cascading menu in clear type fonts, you get close to perfection...hence it was not so noticeable before.
The only workaround will b to install some 3rd party software like oz VGA. see below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297557
I played around with Demo Unit of Dopod U1000 for an hour today and I find the screen to be better than my Dopod 900(aka Universal). That's based on my eyes anyway.
Anyone can post Today screen on here?

let me break it down into technical part, it's quite impossible for Athena to look better then Universal, it might look bright and more colorful, but because they have the same resolution (640x480). The font will have some edge in the Athena, but it won't in Universal.
Think about it, they all just have 640x480=307200 pixels to show in the screen, but Athena is 5 inch, so if you look closely, you will find the font doesn't look like sharp in Athena.
But if you are looking at the picture, yes i also agree Athena looks very nice and colorful.

In layman's language: When you take a picture with your 1.3 mpixel mobile phone it looks nice on the screen. When you transfer to your pc and look at it in full screen mode, you see a lot of grains

For some reason I hard reset the U1000 and this time I also let it install all extended rom stuff (I will reset before it install to avoid those useless OEM softwares), this time the Cleartype is enabled by default.
I still think the screen of U1000 looks better when compared to 900, 640x480 on 3.5" is just too small. You just can't see the characters on the screen if you view a PDF file on Universal but on Athena they look great!

we are not really talking the screen size here, we are talking about how the font in these two machine looks. yes font in Athena looks big but it doesn't look as sharp as in Universal.
In order to look the same as Universal, Athena needs to have bigger resolution
Direct Sunlight
With both my Universal and the Advantage side by side in direct sunlight, I find the Universal screen much easier to see.

lol obiously. the universal screen quality is anti glare. umm.. anyways use oZVGA and trust me you will get better quality than pixel icon/font quality than Universal. Or RealVGA or TrueVGA.
Thanks Nuclear, I wasn't aware that the Universal had anti-glare. As for OzVGA, I can't find anywhere to download it.... the links I've found are dead, can anyone upload it for me please.
Thanks Tim
