I was gonna upgrade my Wizard to a Vario II until I saw the hatchet job that T-Mobile had done on it. Their designers really need to re-think that pink and ugly thing they do.....I so hate the look of it, I'm gonna move to Orange who have kept the HTC look and sell the device in black. I wasn't too taken with the look of the Vario II until I actually got one in my hands. The brushed gun-metal and red is under-stated and elegant. The photos don't do this device justice. But as soon as you get one in your hands, you'll see what I mean. And it has superb build quality (treated properly i.e. not like a mobile phone flung in your pocket or bag).

As most of you certainly know, the X1 comes in two variants: "steel silver" and "solid black".
My question: Is the only difference between these two housings the color or is the black variants' top cover made of plastics instead of metal?
From an optical point of view, I like the black variant more, but if it should turn out that it's made of plastics, I'd rather go for the silver one.
Unfortunately Amazon.de currently has only the black variant listed, but this might hopefully change when it's really available.

I'm pretty certain that the Black is metal construction also - black all the way for me! I'm a whore for black stuff, black phones just always look better to me...

Ok... so now i am really confused. I LOVE black... always have. But on the xperia - after looking at pictures and all, the silver one looks better - sexier.
Maybe it is because of the silver keyboard? (On the black one, they should have had a black keyboard as well - the silver one gives it a mixed feeling)
I do find the Silver one more attractive than I thought, and I think the keypad still being silver on the Black one is what does it. Black is still better, just not as much as I would have expected ;]

Since it'll take ages for this mobile to hit market here in Pakistan, i would most likely be getting it delivered from an online store from another country - thus will most likely be unable to hold both colors in hand and chose then.

An hour back, i had pretty much made up my mind about the silver. But now i'm confused again...
I'll most likely go for the black one in the end.
As for where i'll order it from. www.beliscity.com is a Pakistani store that brings stuff here before its available in the market. (they were the first ones to offer iPhone 3G). However, considering they don't bring it soon, i am going to try and see if i can get it from www.expansys.com (any one of their sites) and have it delivered here.
If either is too much, my brother might have a training in Dubai by the mid of October. So i'll ask him.
One way or the other... i'm going to try and get it as soon as possible...
What about you? i think you might have similar options such as expansys?
My best bet would be Expansys - Greece, as its a neighbouring country...
Or i'll wait and see what the local internet stores are going to come up with.

I am a little disappointed that changing the housing turns out to be so risky and difficult. :-(
There was a special offer when I bought my X10 (-150 euros) for the black one, so I bought the black.
But now I feel a tad jealous of the lustrous white...
DealExtreme has a full white housing for about 28 dollars, but after reading reports about users who failed to change the cover, I am hesitant.
As far as your problem is concerned, there is a thread around here that has detailed instructions about disassembling the phone (can't find the link, as I'm posting from the phone) and there you can see exactly where the antenna is. I hope everything turns out OK for your phone, let up know!

Thats why I have sold my black X10 and bought me a white beauty, on forums people are saying that white X10 is for ladies and gays but really, this phone in white is one of the most beautiful phones on the market, even much better than white iPhone and everybody wants white iPhone, because it is different, 99% of phones are black and having white phone is different, for me personaly is nicer to see white phone in my hands, since I dont hold my phone on the table or anywhere that others can see, luckily I have sold my black phone 2 days after I bought white one Only that is worse is the back thats not rubberized and the phone slips out of the hands and pockets VERY easily..

the only orange branding on it, is on the battery cover (easly replaceable)

I had it in my presence for a day or so...
Unfortunately when I compared it to my brown DHD, I must say I much preferred the brown look. The orange logo in my opinion is a bit of an eyesore but its not that big.

i own the black edition, and yes the orange logo is not very nice, but i plan to get another cover for it...
Anyway, the phone is quite nice, i must admit i've not seen (live) the brown one, but this is quite nice in black...
since the logo is printed on the bottom cover, we can replace luckily. But the thing is I only found the coffee colour version of it. and its not cheap, 15-20quid for that tiny cover.

To me the brown just looks more full. It looks weighty and expensive.

Most phones are black, this kind of brown colour gives you a sense of independence, it'll be very hard to come across something cheap that's brown not black.
I think the brown sort of shows different colour under different lighting, sometimes you even see it in silver. The black edition is totally matte black I think.

I got the brown version, and while I wanted the black version at first, the brown one looks sexier than I imagined. Too bad I use an otter box, so its black afterall^^

Just got a black DHD from Orange, compared to previous phones from them the branding is relatively unobtrusive. I've attatched a pic of the back panel that should give you some idea. Sorry about the quality but this was taken with a rubbish camera in poor lighting.

well, the truth is, the "brown" one would cost me £199 plus the renewal of my contract, the black came freebie....:
But, i need to cofess, i like black phones...

You can always get a black case (SGP or any other) and get SGP's Black Glass Screen protector for the front. Now you have a black phone! They also give you a black piece to cover your home button. Now you can switch in between your mood. That is what I am going to do. I hear what your saying though. I love my white one but sometimes I want the black front.

That's not a bad plan. I like the fact that you could choose between the two depending on what you fancy at the time.
GOD! i love my white S2 after years of nothing but black black black , I have had three back S2`s and the silver trim around the edge of the white S2 really does looks the dogs bollics.
But each to their own
A nice sleek silver phone would be lovely but i like my black GS2.

I absolutely love the look of the white GS2, but I went with black for two main reasons. First, (and maybe you can confirm this), I read that the smooth back on the white version made the grip less sure compared to the rough back on the black. Second, as much as I love the look, I'm not really the type that likes to stand out too much, and a black smartphone is a lot less attention-grabbing than a white one, even if the latter is beautiful. Plus, I saved about $30 based on the best prices I could find when I bought. Okay, that was three reasons I guess, so sue me.
But yeah, the white usually costs a bit more, as you can see here already, you won't have any trouble trading someone.

It's all a matter of preference. Go for it if it makes you happy. I know a lot of people including me who's like white one. Problem is that option was not available locally and I wanted a phone with warranty.

Haha that's exactly what I keep getting told. Which has put me off the white. Don't get me wrong, I still like the look of it but would much prefer the black.
I prefer the Black as I have got a Black One all my phones have either been Black or Silver.
My colleague just got a White one and It kinda looks Odd compared to mine so quite happy

Argh, my first white phone and I love it.
But today I somehow got ink on my hands from a badly made pen and must have picked up my phone,
ink marks stay on the phone and are NOT easily wiped off.
Went from screen cleaner -> lens cleaner -> flash -> Mr muscle, which FINALLY did the job.

Well, my contract is up and I have the opportunity to buy the might One X at just S$150.. after trading in my HD2
To trade or not to trade.. in a dilemma too as I have the also mighty Titan as my main phone which I absolutely LOVES the WP7 UI.

So.. I did buy the OneX. But, I can't bare to part with my hd2. So I didn't trade in..
I got the brown grey version. My first impression was.... Frankly, very very disappointed with the material used.. The whole thing just feel so plasticky.. Hd2 material, built quality beat it hands down.. The device doesn't feel big though, but I came from a titan point of view. Maybe its not metal, the whole thing just feel light.. Too light for comfort.. Disappointed.. Should have gotten note instead... Darn..
Yes current HTC build material & quality is quite frankly rock bottom at the moment ...
Samsung note & some Galaxy versions feeling & looking much better ...
Thanks to all the "fantastic" reviews online.. Come to think of it.. Most of the review units are white.. Maybe its better. The dark colour one is just a disastrous mix of colour, coating and material... Even the test phone in the shop are white as well.. Can't imagine I had wanted to traded in my hd2 for this rubbish..
