hi all
i activated setting "lock all buttons except power button" to avoid unmotivated touching buttons when the device is in my pocket.
but there is one problem: i drive my car to the garage, where is NO gsm reception. suddenly the mda turn ON in my pocket. then i take it out and turn it OFF again.
as soon as i leave the garage and reception is back, the mda turns on AGAIN.
that REALLY SUCKS.
do you know any registry hack to avoid this? or any other cure??
thanks in advance.

noone?
no answer? or was my question not understood?
pleaaaazzzz

I don't have an answer to that specific question. I can tell you there is a registry hack, recently posted, that will make the device go back to sleep more quickly when it wakes up for a system event. I have mine set to 35 seconds, which is very useful.
Izeman,
Do you have Sprite back-up installed?
I have found a problem. With Sprite back-up installed and battery monitoring and schedule back up on, my XDA II just sits on my desk and doesn't turn itself on unless I need it to. I have no reception at my desk.
If I take the XDA II out in the car it will periodicaaly and randomly turn itself on and go off after the time I have set in power options. If I turn off battery monitoring and scheduled back up in Sprite back-up this doesn't happen.
There awas an issue with Sprite back-up and the XDA which was fixed that produced similar results.
Now it seems to only have this problem as it gains and loses signal.
Thank you very much mindracing !
Glibe,
Does this mean that you had the same problem?
If so, can you post a question at the sprite software support page? You can register and ask questions there and the response is much quicker than the sprite forum.
The more instaces of this that get reported the more likely it is that it will get fixed.
Sprite bac-up really is excellent - apart from this problem.

yes. i have sprite backup 3 installed. but doesn't seem to be the problem.
my problem is reproduceably the lost GSM signal. as long as there is reception the mda stays off. when i enter the garage it takes some time untill the mda recognizes it got no reception and turns itself on. you could imagine how much fun it is having the mda dial some numbers while being in your backpocket of your trousers.
it was not once that i incidentally called the last caller again just because of buttons getting pressed because of this self-turning-on stupidity.
i have NO idea what this feature shoudl be for.... if you find an answer pls tell me just for my internal peace.
thanks

Hello here!
(I've another post similar to that, for now I will follow my experiences in this post and forget the other one)
I've the same problem, i've Sprite Backup 3 with automatic backup but without monitoring battery.
Now, I turn off the automatic backup and I will test my XDA and tell you whats happen ... For now (15') is working ok (no automatic startup)
Sprite Software knows the problem (monitoring battery and schedule backup activation) and is working in the solution.
You can read in this topìc:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1157&start=0
We must wait for the solution!
thanks jplanelles
but the problem discribed there is completly different from my problem - and therefor doesn't help or solve my problem.
thanks anyway

Could you plz let me know of that registry string?
Tnx

Hi all
I expirence a strange problem I can't really explain to my self.
For two weeks now my XDA looses battery quiet rapid. I goes from 100% downto 25% in a matter of 8 hours... this hasn't been the case before.
I tried to do a hardreset and this fixed the problem for a new days, now it appeared again.
The standby problem is only when the phone is turn on, but I do have good network coverage, so the phone is not always searching or something. I don't have GPRS connected, no bluetooth or something and didn't install new software, there are no additional tasks running in the background.
Actually I would like to wait for a german 1.72 ROM before a upgrade the nexttime ( current is 1.60 )
Does anybody has an idea ????
Help is greatly appreciated !!!!
Alex
Hi Alex,
i have experienced the same problem since several weeks.
I have made a hardreset, Firmware update to the actual o2 Version (1.66.01GER, 1.10.00 Radio), and so on without a better result.
I suppose that it could depend on the o2 Network.
Two weeks ago on vacation in foreign networks the standby time was o.k.
The o2 Hotline has no information about this phenomenon until now.
Regards
Markus
Arrgh ****...
I was in a "foreign" country for nine months... just when I came back it started...
It seems fixed after a hardreset for a day or so, then it starts again...
I tried this new ROM, it's simply horrible, was totaly unstable, I switch back to 1.60.
I also thought I could be related to the network... this would not be good.
I am here in the office on the boarder of my homezone, someday I have homezone, some not... (shouldn't be the case either )
But my other mobile also behaves strange, it switches ( with homezone indicator on !!! ) to t-mobile... even I have a strong O2 signal...
I think it's time to write a mail to customer support...
Alex
Bah... is a fantastic PDA, but I must charge the battery every 2 days...
I think is normal...
I had to recharge very second day... that's normal if you use your pda...
but we are talking about 8hours and less without using it !!!

Try switching on flight mode and see if it is better.
One thing I learned but not sure if it is scientific: don't xray scan your phone/pda when passing customs. My Siemems phone started behaving cranky when it gets scanned.
Lastly, if still as bad, suggest you send in to check it up. Hope just some problem with the battery.
Thanks.. but as I have allready written... when I turn flight mode on (same as turn the phone off) the battery is OK.
It has definitvely something to do with the radio.
The phone didn't get xrayed for a while now
Interference
It doesn't have to be an X-Ray machine Bro. Any form of frequency interference can screw your Xda's radio - but usually it will get back to normal after awhile (days) unless it is subjected to severe exposures.
What you can try to do is to goto Start-Settings-Personal-Phone-Network.
From Preferred Networks hit Set Networks - reprioritize.
Then under Network Selection change to Manual once the Xda gets hold of a signal switch back to Automatic.
Lastly check if your Broadcast Channels is enabled - disable it.
Worked for me after hours in the OR once - oops!

I have the very same problem for a few weeks now. Some more observations:
- power goes down at a rate of 1% every 12 minutes
- happens only with an O2 SIM. If I put in a D2 SIM, everything is fine
- happens with every O2 SIM - I tried three so far
- my O2 SIM works nicely in a friend's Himalaya
- bought a new battery - didn't help
- putting it right next to a speaker (so that you can hear all network activity) shows that there is not more activity than normal.
- problem is present with both 1.60ger and 1.66ger O2 firmware, with no software installed (i.e., directly after a hard reset)
I would be grateful for any tips or hints how to solve this! Also, if someone else experiences the same problem, please post here. Maybe it's a hardware problem, and the more people experience it, the easier it'll be to convince T-Mobile/O2 that there's a real problem.
Cheers
Daniel
News on this issue: I just flashed the Imate 1.72 ROM version, and at the moment it seems this resolved the problem. The 1.72 has a newer Radio ROM (version 1.14 rather than 1.10) than all 1.6x versions, so this could make the difference.
However, it is also possible that the effect is only temporarily gone, due to not having configured GPRS, SMS, whatnot for the O2 network yet, so it is too early to start partying...
And, of course, the OS is now English rather than German.
I will now leave my Himalaya alone for another few hours, just to confirm the problem is currently really gone, then I will start configuring it back to O2 settings, and add back all my software. This will take some time, as I want to check for the problem between all steps, and each check takes around one hour.
So, to all who suffer from the same problem: I suggest you wait a few more days before you upgrade. After I have finished my testing, I will post here again the results.
Let's hope 1.72 really does the trick!
Cheers
Daniel
More news: I am now pretty sure that (again) the Homezone application is at fault!
The battery drain we experience roughly matches the power consumption of the CPU when not in a sleep mode. So, it seems the Homezone application prevents the CPU to go to sleep mode.
Why that used to work, and only started happening some weeks ago, I don't know. My guess is that O2 slightly changed the way they broadcast the location info. That location info is sent every few seconds via Cell Broadcast on channel 221, and as the Homezone application has to read that, it's quite plausible that it gets woken up every few seconds (whenever a new broadcast arrives).
What surprises me, though, is that there seem to be relatively few XDA II owners on O2 who experience the problem. I will send an email to O2 support and ask them.
In the meantime, to correct the problem, uninstall the Homezone application. To do so, do the following:
- deactivate the Homezone display, using the "Homezone" program
- using the file manager of your choice, go to the Windows directory, find the file "OHZ.dll", and rename it to whatever you like. This step is important!
- soft reset your XDA II
- go to "Einstellungen" -> "System" -> "Programme entfernen", and remove the program called "V2R Homezone"
- with your file manager, go to the Windows directory again and remove the renamed OHZ.dll file. If there is still a directory called "Windows\V2R\HZ", remove that also.
Of course, you lose the Homezone display. But you get full battery life back!
Cheers
Daniel
Okay, I'm trying to find out why not everybody on the German O2 network is affected.
Alex and Markus: I opened a thread for this over in the PPC-Welt forum, see here.
You are invited to come over and participate! If you are not interested, could you please let me know where exactly you are located? I live in Munich, and it might be that O2 misconfigured just a few base stations here in the south of Germany so that the Homezone application behaves erratically.
Thanks!
Daniel
Hi Tazido
Fu#$%^&*( is it really because it move to munich... arrgh.
I do live in Starnberg, but I spend the weekend in Ludwigshafen and here everything was OK.

As mentioned in a post in that other forum, everybody who is affected should call the O2 hotline and report this as a "network problem", to raise O2's awareness of the situation.
For the moiment, uninstalling the Homezone app is the best you can do. :-(
Cheers
Daniel
I did uninstall the O2 Homezone app.
I tried to mail to O2 but this seems not to work for some reason, I get a 403 error.
About calling the hotline, I have to pay for this, as I switch to the web-based contract with the free SMS, so as long as i doesn't get worse I can live...
Alex
Maybe someone could help me with this:
after using the Qtek S100 for some time I can't receive SMSs anymore, only send them. If someone sends me an SMS my device would wake from standby, the screen would turn on but no SMS can be seen in my inbox. Only a hard reset would help.
Anyone recognizes this problem?
you bet I do
see my posts and many related in here -
strangely nobody seems to acknowledge that problem-
you describe EXACTLY my symptoms and the ones of a few others.
I had my XDA repaired by O2 twice (which did not solve the problem) and now they have agreed to exchange it. I am now just worried that on reading here in the forum that this is a general problem with the XDA - receveiving SMS when waking up. Proof is - put it in a spot where the reception is weak and switch it off. Send two messages to yourself - it will wake up, loose the network, re- aquire and ONLY receive the second message - although you will get two delivery messages.

I have had the same problem. I discovered that it was caused by a backup software, i don't remember if it was sprite backup or something else.
Hope it helps
Bye
@Karol
Karol - yes there were references in the forum to backup SW -
but I can recreate this behaviour at will on a "virgin" XDA after a Hard reset BEFORE any SW is loaded or even a first Active sync. So this instance of the problem is definitely not related to any installed SW
Dear All,
thanks for your replies. It is indeed a tricky thing.
One thing I observed is that after a hard reset it works for some time and then it happens again. The periods that its working are variable. Sometimes even for weeks. I tried to do a Sprite backup while it's working, hoping that a restore would fix the probelm. Well, it doesn't. A restore of a backup done while it works will not fix it.
In my case only a hard reset helps.
So, what Iive done now, is make a SPRITE backup WITHOUT the "Email" section and a backup with xBACKUP, the standard backup software in the Magician. When the problem appears, I will try both and give feedback.
Regards.
Hi guys,
i have a newly bought qtek 9000 and I don't know if its broken. Here the problems:
- when the phone rings the ringtone doesn't play fluidly. Sometimes it hangs as if "there where some scratches in the CD"
- when the phone was quite a long time in standby and I answer the phone, the caller doesn't hear anything that I am saying for about 1 or 2 sec.
- when i eject the sd card the phone reboots.
Are these known bugs or is the phone broken.
thanks in advance
I have the same problem, missed a couple of phone calls because of that.
- It seems there is a delay of 2-3 rings before you actually hear the ringtone when the Exec is in standby mode.
- Also I noticed that it takes significantly longer to display the photo you've just taken in the camera mode.
Thinking to revert back to O2 corp. mode.
well actually I'm answering almost immediatly. The problem is that the other person doesn't hear anything I'm saying. The connection althought is already established.
Does anybody have a solution for this bug. Is there a registry tweak? Or an rom update? This is really an annoying bug.
did you install other software?
if so witch one
Actually not, just Agenda Fusion.
Actually this seems to be minimized if using GPS instead of UMTS.
If I have made a soft reset before and I'm using GPS I can answer immediatly. If I'm using an UMTS connection instead, I have to wait for about 2-3 seconds to begin talking.
Try to disable PowerSave, just use the closing of the camshell to powerdown the Universal. This is what I had to do to make sure I did not miss calls with my Exec in Corp mode (original ROM).

I think you mean GPRS, not GPS. I also have a Qtek9000 and don't seem to get this problem, have you tried hard resetting and installing nothing and see if the problem is still there? Or as you say it only happens when you are "using" UMTS, does this mean you are surfing the web while you get the phone call that has the delay?
Just curious as I hope I don't have the same bug, too.

That is totally not suppose to happen. Do you mean your whole device soft-resets? Or the phone application? Either way, sounds really strange!
well, actually the whole device reboots.
Someone told me it depends on the apps that are installed on the card, but I'd still hadn't any time to check whether it doesn't happen with an empty card. As soon as I do that I will post my achievement.
SPB Pocket Plus
I used to have my device always HARD RESET when I tried installing SPB Pocket Plus in Memory Card. Et even hard resets my ipaq h6340 when I install it in the FileStore.

I am using the latest HTC ROM in the UK with Radio v. 1.03.03.10. When I restart the unit in the morning after switching the power off overnight the phone is off enough times to be a nuisance if I do not notice it. Occasionally it switches into flight mode when the unit is on as well, but this seems to be happening less frequently. I also sometimes have difficulty making outgoing calls, ie the call ends before even getting connected, and redialling will not work until I switch the phone off and back on again. Is anyone else having these problems? Is this an issue with the radio ROM? I have read about the difficulties with the latest Radio ROM upgrades on the forum, and if a Radio ROM upgrade would solve the problem I would appreciate some advice on the best one to go with for use primarily in Europe, with occasional travel to the US and Japan.
Hi, Sorry to hear about your issues, I and a couple others here have or had the problem with the phone being off/flightmode after turning it off, then back on.
Theres a another post about this somewhere..I was just too lazy to find it before I posted, and last I checked a true fix hadn't been found.
If I am correct it shouldn't occur if you only do a softreset, and if you look at your signal bars when you shut it off, it looks like it turns the phone/radio off during the shutdown process...that is normal I'm pretty sure, cause even when it worked correctly it still shut the phone off before a power off, I think the issue is related to the startup process and it isn't correctly turning it back on.
I have had it work fine for the longest, and then when I installed some software it quit, after the fresh installation of software it has worked again, also I notice if I power off the phone while its charging and then power it back on, it always works correctly.
I haven't had any actual incall/call issues myself I can't say if a Radio upgrade would help with that, but I don't suspect a radio only upgrade would help with the flight mode being on after a power down, but I am far from being positive, I think its installed software/ROM related, sorry I can't be of some real help, I'm dealing with it myself..its aggrivating to me, I have forgotten to turn flightmode off and missed calls for half a day untill I looked and noticed.
Start the improvement way by upgrading the Radio ROM
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
Here you can find the 1.20 ROM, extracted from JASJAM ROM. Try to install it on your device.
Tell me about this.
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestions. Most helpful.
yes - i get that too - constantly (on a t-mob vario) - i get bumped off the network at least 5-10 times a day and it takes me anywhere between and 10 minutes to get back on. i also get bumped off systematically every night (i am always off when i get up).
calls too are a disaster - an average, it takes me 3 or 4 tries to complete a call when i have full network. (sometimes as much as 10-15 tries)
took my sim and put it into a magician and all went away, so *suppose* it could be a 3g thing, but i am really not convinced because the hermes does have a 2g radio as well (so it should fall back onto 2g whenever 3g fails...)
Not a Fix but a Working Solution
I started having the issue of the radio being off on startup a few weeks ago.
So I invested($10) in a copy of SK Softwares Scheduling Manager SKScheMa.
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?skschema/m_skschema.html
This has a powerful scripting language and one of the script commands is "GPRS on"
I created a shortcut in the startup folder to a GPRS On script. and since then I have had no more problems.
i´ve the some problem, what do you do for no more problems ?¿?¿
thanks
Thanks for this. I will give it a try. Do you know by any chance if this also provides a way to have the phone ring through the speaker when it is connected to a Bluetooth headset?
>Thanks for this. I will give it a try. Do you know by any chance if this also provides a way to have the phone ring through the speaker when it is connected to a Bluetooth headset?<
If you are refering to SKSchema, then this should be possible. You can create a script that runs when a call is received.
The script can then instruct the phone to play a sound file.
We turned off the UMTS service and reverted back to GSM and that seems to have solved the issue.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
J.
Just a slight update to maybe help find the cause, I had created a backup with spb before the problem occurred (minus pim data and emails not sure if it mattered) and after having the problem arise again and a few other issues, I decided to hard reset and try out the backup I made.
After installing my backup the problem was gone, and then I got bored the other day and installed some software, and I think removed some, and I had it happen once again after I had ran memmaid 1.72 and rebooted.
I don't know if it the software installaions that are causing it..but one thing that has been a constant is the memmaid, and it could even be my fault.
Is anyone having this happen to a basically oem device?

Well, I can't exacly tell why but I get the same feeling about extra software.
After a hardreset or ROM upgrate (now Cing 1.34/radio 1.16) everything's fine. I deactivate ActiveSync and install some extra software (PocketZenPhone, Total Commander, Regedit, TomTom). After a few days still everything's fine. So I install some other software (SPB PocketPlus, Jetware, a today- and phoneskin) and still everything's fine for a few days. But then on a (not so) fine day: it hangs! The phone doesn't react or TomTom is hanging on the startup screen or the whole device is freezing. Why? I don't know, softreset and everythings fine for a few days.
I notices a few situations while it happened: first when I connected the carpower adapter and second a few times while receiving a phonecall (in my carkit and on poweroff).
Uninstalling everything doesn't seem to do the trick: it still hangs now and then. Also I dont have the patience to hardreset and use my device clean, without extra programs for a few weeks. But I guess in that case everything would be ok (?). But a device without the extra's has no use to me...
My feeling is that the installing the extra's causes a instability in the registry or elsewhere. I also have the feeling that the hardware causes certain instability: the gliding keyboard, the screen (alignmentproblems), the buttons, the SD-card, the network cards, bluetooth... (I had my device in repair with HCT because of the too easy gliding keyboard, the stylus, and the instability with TomTom, but those problems are solverd for now, exept for TomTom). So much hardware, so much software, all in one small device...
A small addition to my previous post: I think another possible cause for instability are the famous memoryleaks. Starting and stopping programs in my opinion never clears the whole memory, in spite of "real" programstoppers like SPB PocketPlus. After working a few days this could cause a freeze (?)
Hi Guys,
as I am a noob on this forum, i searched around, but couldn't find anything related to my problem.
I do have my brand new Treo Pro (aka Treo 850) and I am having some trouble. When there is an incoming call, I answer it, but after a few seconds - just from nowhere - the flightmode gets active and the phonecall is droped. Maybe even only the phone is switched off... I can not see any difference. While the call is incomming there is no bluetooth active, the batterystate is good, no wifi connection...
I am really sad and frustrated, I switched from an older treo 650 where this problem happens, too. I thought there it has been due to his age, but now – with the same looking problem on my new Treo Pro (850) I am going mad.
Some more Info:
The touchscreen is locked at this time. The callduration was about 10 seconds max.
Could this be some incopatibilty with some of the installed programms, like TCPMP for example?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Yours JamFX
Hi JamFX, I'm a heavy user of my Treo Pro for work and have lots of apps installed; I've never experienced this problem.
You could try uninstalling one app at a time and hope you find the problem that way.
Otherwise try a hard reset if all else fails?
Good luck.
I was having the same problem...
just found that was my mistake...the phone let the touch screen active during calls and it's too sensitive so, your ear hit the signal info icon, hit the comm manager and there activate the air plane mode...you need to answer the call and hit lock that appear on the screen options and there is, no air plane mode active again...
Hope this work for you!
Thanks so far...
Hi Everybody,
thanks for your hints so far. What I've done so far is:
- Uninstall TCPMP
- checked if "lock screen during calls" is active -> was activated...
So I think, that the last solution was quite a good hint, but not for my case. I thought of this, too, so i tried this ;-)
Until now, I didn't had problems, but until now I didn't have so many calls to check. Lets see. I will report them here. If there are any similar cases known please don't hesitate to post.
Thanks
Yours JamFx
