new phone similar to XDA released, check it out - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I found a phone similar to XDA with Quad band features and GPS:
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/2269.html
http://www.emirate1.com/
Nice to see some competition. The name implies the phone is somewhat dedicated to people in Middle-East?
Parkkuman

Looks pretty nifty..! Specially with the built in GPS.. !
Rob.

Looks bloody ugly!

And even runs PocketPC 2000 as you can see on the nice picture  - that picture is faked and the device is just a plan...

Well its not fake i can assure you, but its not in production yet and i dont think it will be anytime soon!
I saw the prototype and i can assure you its out of the question to have such a device in the market if they didnt modify it big time. Too bulky at first sight...
I think we wont see this device anytime soon in the market thats for sure...

It is not a bomb detonator, but since it comes from the Middle East, it is a weapon of mass destruction, so beware.
What a mentality??

hhmm the middleeast is a pretty hot and sunny place

Is the Mini Better suited for Women?

My girlfriend is looking for a PocketPC, in terms of ergonomics, would you say this model is better for women?
I don't think it is that simple, that certain devices are better for women or men. If you have small hands, it would be good.
But is your gf a geek? My wife is for sure not, and she is very happy with her dead tree calendar/addressbook and her simple Ericsson T65 phone (and she didn't want to inherit my old Cassipeia PDA).

Woman and computers , if you ask me, that doesn't match very well
I thought females preferred LARGER packages!
SOME of the women dont like messing with complicated **** all they want is to make calls and recieve and calendar etc. any phone will do. But if your woman is ready to mess with files and registry keys and not get irritated about hard-resets. If she's an avid PDA User then JAM is the way to go. But i have never seen a girl/lady carry one.

Hehe, if i see a girl holding a Mini and it's all supped up with accessories, that'll be good
At least that's a girl who'd understand why i spend so much money on gadgets and am always broke....haha...
Don't you hate it when your GF's always complaining why you spend so much money on "toys" and not on her? haha
I'm a girl and I have an o2 XDA mini
I agree that it doesn't matter whether you're male or female - if you're into computer toys you'll love a mini!

I saw a women using a magician in a popular TV sitcom (US). I remember saying outload to everyone in the room, " Look ..Look, OMG that women is using a phone just like mine." Then they just looked at me like soo. I guess they didn't understand my enthusiasm
Thanks for all the replies.
My original posts focused on ergonomics, but someone says it best:
"If you lke sophiticated toys (something like that) you'll like the Mini."
It is a great gear, ain't it? Too bad with all the things you can do, the original battery can't quite taking it to "be all it can be"...
My wife has accidentally dropped my MDA on the floor as soon as she has held it in the hands for the first time. My MDA has scratched now. I think this device will be killed soon if she'll be its owner.
I have to agree with georgexoasi. PDA/smartphone combos have so far been for techies who don't mind updating the ROM (or more likely wait for the next update, even if ther's nothing to fix).
The only stable smartphone platform I know of is Series 60 Symbian.
My P900 showed promise but dried up with a crap one handed interface and very little 'cool' software.
The iMate Jam has been the best one so far, but it still requires a weekly reboot and it still has sound quality issues etc.
If she want a smart looking phone get a razr, if she want's a gadget get the Jam!

A weekly reboot? Can you please elaborate?
he's probably talking about a soft-reset wherein your device reboots and cleans up a bit, releases ram etc etc. I do it everyday or when my device seems to be slowing down. takes only a few seconds, natural for ppcs.
Sorry to bump a 1 month old post, but I just gotta say that both my sister and my fiancee are looking at getting Jams of their own.
All it took for my sister was seeing "Who wants to be a Millionaire" and "Virtual Pool".
And my fiancee just loves all the skinning, themes, and Solitaire!
Plus they both wanted to get iPod minis until I showed them pPod with my 1gig card!!
Between the 2 of them I barely get to play with it!!

Student in need of a Shift Badly So is anyone selling?

HI
Im a student here in london adn i badly need a Shift
I dont ahve a lot of money to spend but i will accept all prices please contact me here or PM me or email me on
[email protected]
Im in London and i can come to Central London if required or can ventrue to surrey or around london if needed
Thanks!
Can I be cheeky and ask - why?
It's grossly overpriced for what it is. There are much better portable laptops for the price/performance, if your needs are fairly modest.
Sorry I can't help - I'm just wondering if it's really something worth desiring!

I'm the same as him... looking for a shift at the smallest price as possible.
The shift is the ONLY ONE that I want right now... every laptop is just too bad for me apart the shift.
Why? The shift is like 2 COMPUTERS... you can use both CPU at the same time .. look on internet with windows mobile part using touch screen features.. and use the vista part as a real computer with external desktop and wireless keyboard and mouse !
What the shift brings us is totally umbelievable ! Sure there are many complaints about speed/reactivity but.. HEY .. have you tried the damn EEE PC ? it's totally unusable !
Overpriced? 2 CPU , 2 RAMS, touchscreen , 2 OS ... do you have found something like this on a notebook? if there were any 15"4 with all these feature the price would be around 3000€ or $3000 .. twice more than the Shift.
You just don't realise how it is to bring a big bag all the time ... the shift is not as heavy as a laptop, it's not as large as a laptop... it's an experience of 24/24h computer .. and no laptop bring that !
And you got SMS + 3G + GPS + Phone (soon).
I don't really know why you think this is overpriced...
And what about battery ? My laptop is just able to do 30min of computing... the shift is more about 3hours ! .. and 7 days for navigating on internet ...
Sure... there are nothing most valued than the shift.
Lol he's completly right, iv been searching those websites like the loot etc (im always outbidded on ebay by about a 100 pounds lol)
So does anyone know anyone selling one?
I'm still not convinced though. I love HTC's stuff, but for the money, and given that most of us have HTC phones in our pockets anyway, why not get the Diamond and a HP 2133?
I'm just concerned about the shift going like the Universal and Athena- too big for a phone, too specialised for a general purpose laptop.
Just my 2 cents, as I'm highly tempted towards the 2133 - little Vijay555.1 likes to watch films on the train, and a little sub-notebook would be a nice idea.
Have you guys considered importing the shift from the States?

the HP 2133 is too big, I think, to carry 24/24h .. impossible to put in a pocket. and the PDA (like HTC Touch, Diamond, ..) have a too small display ... it's hard to have "good" applications with this small display.
yeah .. I have already considered importing from the States... but it's still not cheaper than in Europe ... it always returns to 1200€

heh, the processor in the shift is better than in the hp 2133. the shift is just fine as a plain subnotebook if someone wishes to use it as such. the fact that it has a second processor doesn't mean it makes the x86 any less usable.
i think it is a great device, and not much more pricey than the athena was when it came out!

X1 in Hong Kong

keep waiting and waiting, finally got it lastnight,
not too cheap, HK$6480, around US$830. v_v
even switching between the X-panel.
quite smooth compare with diamond w/rom shine on2.0,
the metal case cover finishing is better then photos.
bundle without any GPS software,
seem not stable with my Mapking,
crash few times with it.

1) not checked yet, will let you know later,
but the camera interface is quite good, cause it using the touch focus same with G900
2) honestly, it's faster than a fine tuned diamond

Did you get any leather/silicon case to protect it? I am look for a case for it (preferable from capdase but hardly find anything for X1).
And I am also looking for Arm Station clearview screen protector but nothing is available for x1 as well....
The retail price is HK$5980 according to http://www.eprice.com.hk/mobile/news/?news_id=5962
HK$6480 is the pre-order price before X1 was released yesterday, as I saw it in some phone shops at MongKok area last week.
the SRP in HK is $5,980 only, not $6,480...
I forgot to ask, which version X1 Hong Kong getting? X1i?

x2 set for november release in the uk

looks set for november according to vodaphone uk (which has a exclusive deal in the uk).
link:

also under details it says no stereo fm radio (but specs can change, as there is still about 2+ months to release).
Where does it say exclusive to Vodafone?
hmmmm.
it would be extremely disappointing of them to release a bigger phone with less features. i'm still hopeful that it will have an fm radio.
i'm also worried about having to do without xda for things like tf3d.

Are we still talking about FM radio? Well, first - when was it the last time you've heard of MONO RADIO in a cellphone.. Second - trust me, prototype and as well the final version of X2 has the FM stereo radio. And I do not think they'll change the final version to über-final version

Absolutely. I have used it a couple of time while running and a couple of times for news, but there was one time that convinced me of its usefulness.
Me and a couple of friends got together to watch a football game. Unfortunatelly the game was abroad and no Bulgarian channels were showing it. We got it streaming on the net, but there was no commentary. So, we plugged my X1 to the sound system and listened to the radio commentator. X1 ftw!

As an o2 customer, that spells the end of me journey with SE and Windows Mobile.
Since my X1 was stolen (insurance company unable to replace it, so have given me cash) I have been considering my options. Thought I would just get another X1 as nothing else came close to the form factor and the fact that I have invested in accessories for it too.
My friends have been trying to persuade me to go for an iphone. In fact my brother has given me his old X1 (minus the volume button) and bought the iphone 3gs. He's really happy with it, but then the X1 was his first win mobile and he is not in to the whole eco system, custom ROM's etc, so I never saw his relationship with the X1 lasting anyway
The X2 was my little ray of sunshine. For all it's minor updates it looks a suitable replacement. Maybe not an upgrade but hopefully a more rounded device with some X1 issues ironed out.
I can't go to Vodafone and not sure of the price of a sim free X2, so it looks like I am going to go to the dark side.
It took me about a week to get my 2nd X1 anywhere close to how I would like it. That's many hours of installing custom ROM's and applications etc.
Maybe I'm just looking fo something easier for a while. As much as I dislike Apples dictatorship ( I used to work for MS) I think it's time I gave it a go!!
Maybe with WM 7 and the marketplace, I will be back in the future - I hope so!

Yeah looks I'll be forced to buy this directly from SE too,
but who knows.
In my country - PL - it was in Era = TMobile,
BUT they gave me unlocked, unbranded one for 100 Eur.
Maybe they'll give me this again this way, I pay such a huge deal.
Interesting how it will be in other operators and other countries?

Who's already owning a LEO?

I remember some users on XDA have already a LEO.
Mayb they cane share there issues etc...
Or mayb we can ask them questions....
Think the end deviece won't change from to prototype.

I think they should be in stock in Europe on November 11, so I'm expecting the first end users to receive them on November 12 - 13.

Thanks for link.. Maybe first HD2 unboxing video in the world.. Very exciting...
But, look at 3:13 at video and you will see this is not a final product.. Maybe hardware is final but rom is not...
In addition to, Unfortunately, there is not a case or screen protector in the box

You are welcome, also no software or user manual plus the box looks very generic for the HTC box for this kind of Hardcore device.
I totally agree with you,any way is the only unboxing till the moment.
That is not the final packaging, for sure. But, as said by wonsanim, it's the only one unboxing video.
Final packaging could have more accessories and a more pretty box.
I actually don't care much about the lookings of the box. It will just stand in shelf for at least 2 years =)
I just hope it doesn't feel cheap, as this is a high-end device. Right now it does, looks like BigMac box quality -_-
And what's with those really cheap looking earphones? Though it's not a multimedia device (and most people probaly use their own earphones), such a device deserves better ones.

Where have you seen cheap looking earphones?
Here are those, in photo:

Yep, I was talking about those =) Didn't see them in a picture, just shortly in the unboxing video. Maybe "cheap" was the wrong term, but those do not look like they are good headphones. Especially when they are delivered with those "foam hats" (or whatever they're called), seen in Video at about 2:03. That's usually an indication for "standard" (or "not so good") headphones.
At least that's what I think. Maybe (and hopefully) I'm wrong =)
